my Top 5 - 1 Liverpool. 2 Glasgow. 3 London. 4 Leeds. 5 Newcastle..and yes I've visited them all and ranking them on Nightlife and Food i'm a single guy with a disposable income
I'm intrigued, have you visited Belfast? It's a lovely city, beautiful architecture, very green, water views, fascinating history and very friendly people.
Bizarre placement of Stirling and I don't even live there. It's immaculately clean and is regularly packed with tourists visiting the castle and Wallace monument. The suburbs are also lovely. Lots of nice houses too . Perhaps you visited on a grim winters day or something.
It would not be on your list but is a nice place to visit: The city of DERBY (next to Nottingham) in the East Midlands. It has a smallish city centre but a really nice location situated as it is on the River Derwent, which flows through the centre. It has a lot of history including being the place where Bonnie Prince Charlie was turned around during his invasion of England and the place of the first factory during the Industrial Revolution (The Derby Silk Mill), now the Museum of Making. It is a small industrial city but is also known for its many parks, having the molst of them per size in the country. It is also the first place in the Derwent Valley which in a part of the UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE CENTRE - THE DERWENT VALLEY MILLS and has a nice museum (for its size), including an art gallery showcasing the paintings of respected RA member Joseph Wright (of Derby). The Parks are the best for me though: Markeaton Park, Darley Abbey Park, Allestree Park and Elvaston Castle untry Park (the first country park in the country) among others. There is also the stately home of Kedleston Hall. And perhaps best of all the city is within easy reach of the PEAK DISTRICT NATIONAL PARK and the DERBYSHIRE DALES where you will find treasures such as CHATSWORTH HOUSE, HARDWICK HALL (home of the 2nd richest woman in the country at the time) and HADDON HALL (a mediaeval manor).
🇬🇧 Leamington Spa and Warwick are fabulous. Especially Leamington Spa, it has over 200 Cafés and restaurants. And Award winning Victorian Parks. Warwick has Warwick Castle. A fantastic day out . IMO
Bournemouth was the most depressing city I’ve ever lived in. No cap, I moved there for a year and came back with depression 🤣🤣🤣 I think you might of ranked Sheffield too low, since the new building developments it’s looking good, and they have good public transport and the people are friendly. They also host this big film festival. So there is a lot of cultural activities happening and it has good transport links to other major cities. I think it’s a good place to live if you are a young adult who works and travels. I don’t know about night life there though. But it’s generally a good place, especially if you are a woman it feels very safe.
Ahahhah. Actually in reflection, maybe I would swap Birmingham with Southampton. But Birmingham is certainly a lot more dodgy/dangerous. But yeah unfortunately I have absolutely no pictures/videos of the nice buildings in Southampton. I try to avoid travelling in the UK these days ahah!
Wow you should definitely go back one day and see the change! There has been lots of modern development in the city centre in recents years I must say. Are you still living in the States?
Oh Manchester! I do agree with you placing this great city so high on your list. This is the city i loved from a first view in 2007 and since then (watching its breathtaking developementment) my love have have been becoming bigger and bigger! :) One thing I disagree with You is that its architecture (probably you meant the older one) isn't impressing. I can only recomend you, next time visiting Manchester, having a walk on Withworth Street! Where my love towards this city begined... Regards!
Thank you for your comment! Manchester is a cool place indeed (at least relative to other UK cities ahhahaa). Do you live in Manchester now? I’ll definitely walk down Withworth Street next time ahah!
@@TravellingWithCon I don't live on Manchester now. I used to live in Trafford, Greater Manchester for half a year 2013-2014. Now I live again in Chorley, which is a very nice place to live and it is only a short journey by train from to Manchester, a city of my dreams, which is rising from a very below towards optimum of its potential just in front of my eyes! All the best for you!
You obviously have a preference for larger cities with good night-life, loads going on and maybe also on the warmer side - all of which is fine, and I do know what you mean about some of the smaller ones that have limited choices, especially after all the shops close down! I'm delighted to see your inclusion of St Andrews, Stirling and Dundee, though I suspect I'd have placed the latter a bit higher on the list, because while it does have some very rough and impoverished suburbs with poor standards of housing and other social problems - show me a city that doesn't... Again, Stirling is the smallest of Scotland's eight cities, and while it does feel a little bit on the suburban side after dark, it really does enjoy a beautiful setting and is also pretty upmarket, for the most part. I might also have placed Edinburgh and Bristol the other way around: I have lived in both and, while I imagine Bristol probably does have the edge on variety of things to do that appeal to younger people, I do feel much safer in Edinburgh, which the crime statistics also support. I'm also not especially impressed by either Bournemouth, Southampton (where I have also lived) or Brighton, though I do quite like Portsmouth, as it is much less pretentious and its people are less self-promoting, on the whole. Likewise, Oxford, Cambridge and Bath - and for the same reasons really. I don't dislike London, but it's not very disabled-friendly - on transport especially; and it is far, far too polluted and overcrowded - it should not be possible to wipe the sweat off your brow and discover the wiped piece of skin is a different colour from the rest, on the train home...! As for where's missing, I suspect I may have included Durham, Hull, Aberdeen, Inverness and perhaps Aberystwyth, as seaside towns are also permitted. Indeed, from a nightlife point of view, I even half-expected to see Blackpool, on your list!
I think the real difference in ALL places mentioned is whether you have 'money' or not,if you're wealthy you have choice and would have a comfortable life in any of these locations.
As a tourist, I would recommend avoiding driving into the Bristol city center on a late Friday afternoon. Getting around Bristol by car is hard enough at normal times, but when everyone is fleeing work to either home or to the pub, its crazy. You might even find yourself stuck in a "busses only" lane and get a ticket by mail some months later. Just saying. Take an Uber.
Really! the last time I was in Bristol, it was a breeze. But then I was on my cycle. I'd ridden the midland railway path from Bath right into Bristol center. Then I rode out to Whitchurch on the old North Somerset line. If you persist in driving into traffic hell holes, you get your just rewards.
Wondering your thoughts on Derby as it's often over-shadowed by Nottingham, Leicester and Stoke? Can't image it would be very high but curious if you have been as I think certain aspects of the city are interesting.
Unfortunately i haven’t been to Derby, Leicester nor Stoke so I can’t comment with those ones! But the looks of things, Derby doesn’t look “too” bad ahahaha!
Living near Portsmouth I think it’s a very fair ranking. All the clubs and good bars are centered around guildhall square where the architecture is also amazing. However beyond the city centre the suburbs aren’t that nice and most of the housing is just copy pasted after the war. The traffic is also terrible since it’s an island with only 3 road bridges off the island. However I do think Southampton has more to offer if you aren’t into clubbing
A very interesting video After many many years without a proper holiday, for my wife’s 60th birthday, we had a short 4-day break to London late in 2022, travelling down by train from Newcastle. We had a brilliant time, so have had several more short city breaks since. These have included Edinburgh (twice), Glasgow, London again, Manchester & Liverpool, Leeds & York, with three more repeat trips already booked for 2024. Initially we visited single cities, but more recently we have been combining two cities in one trip which can work out quite well (2 x 2-days) I am now trying to think of somewhere new to visit, for late in the year, or even early 2025. The earlier you can book, the better deals can be had .. and it gives us something to look forward to. I’ve been thinking about Inverness, Aberdeen, Cardiff, Nottingham, Sheffield. Derby, Chester Although my wife likes the shops, we both enjoy seeing new places of interest, such as museums, cathedrals etc. Regards from Whitley Bay
These towns and cities are due to be amalgamated on the moors north of Manchester as the Greater Proletarian Reservation. Betting shops, charity shops, and branches of Poundstretcher are already under construction. Strong cider will be provided to homes on tap. Apply now, places will be limited.
As someone who lives close to Bristol I'm surprised to see it top of the heap, although Clifton has to be one of the classiest suburbs of any city in the UK.
I left the UK 40 years ago, and am so happy about that. It was one of the best decisions that I ever made. Now whenever I think of the UK, I think of a really old, boring, and dusty industrial museum
I live in Southampton, I love the city, not the centre really. West quay is ok though. And it’s nice on a sunny day. My favourite cities are bath, Winchester and Edinburgh. If I’m going to be honest, I’m a bit annoyed that Southampton was destroyed in the blitz, my friend has a house that was bombed. The city could look soooo much nicer if all the old rubbish looking buildings were rebuilt but I doubt that will happen.
Aha yes I could imagine places like Southampton and Coventry would actually be a lot nicer if they weren’t bombed to pieces during the war ahah. And I guess also Berlin on the German side ahah - it looked like a really nice and historic compared to the modern version ahahhah. But yeah Edinburgh, Winchester and Bath are certainly nice places indeed aha
@@TravellingWithCon Yeah, i dont know much about coventry but the sotonian authorities and council did not handle the blitz very well and didnt seem to try and rebuild much.
@ yes, it has everything you need/want. It’s called the Granite City because most of the prominent and important buildings are made with the local granite, which glistens in the sun when wet. Lots of history and a pretty good nightlife. Great pubs and some very good restaurants.
@@TravellingWithCon Good - relics of King John, Prince Arthur and Stanley Baldwin in Worcester Cathedral, locations of the Battle of Worcester 1651, and the Guiildhall and a Wetherspoons pub, lots more. Bewdley is 10 miles north up the River Severn.
Sheffields ranking is bizarre here with Bristol being number 1. Sheffield has the moniker "Bristol of the North" for a reason. Very vibrant music/nightlife city with a strong alternative and outdoors culture (Peak District) with most of the life happening in the suburbs as the city centre is rubbish and lets be real, Sheffields suburbs absolutely are some of the best in the UK in terms of beauty, lots of old stonework houses, pebblestone streets and nature/borderline temperate rainforest everywhere. Bristol is very much the same, awful city centre but very vibrant as soon as you leave it, while attracting a strong youth/alternative and outdoor scene due to its music scene and proximity to the Mendips.
Except that Swindon, Weston-Super-Mare, Bournemouth & St. Andrews are TOWNS not cities! I suppose "Ranking 29 British Cities" doesn't quite have a ring to it, but surely there must be at least ONE more city you've been to, that you have an opinion of!
Hahhaha well, unfortunately (or fortunately) I haven’t been to anymore “cities” in the UK. Haha. And I’m not sure I’d like to take a trip to places like Wolverhampton or Leicester or Stoke happening anytime soon! 😂
Swindon is the largest settlement in Wiltshire with a population of almost 200.000. Swindon is definitely a city according to international criteria, which is the only criteria that counts. The absurd idea that it should be left to the British regent to decide what is a city is just ridiculous.
as an english person, id like to take this moment to say that I think you're a little too worried about dundee, despite being very pro-independence, they are still pro commonwealth, I went up there for the platinum jubilee in 2022 and everyone on my street came out to celebrate with a lovely jubilee trifle and some drinks, The view from up the law is also incredibly pretty and there is often stuff to do there, it feels like a great hybrid of edinburgh's architechtural and natural beauty, with the location and naval history of portsmouth, it also holds the origin to the beano comics, dennis the menace and all that, and it still very much keeps that artistic culture
Yes well I actually think that’s a pretty good comparison to compare Dundee with a mix between Portsmouth and Edinburgh! However I think a big reason why I ranked it so low was due to how quiet and eerie the city felt, even on a Saturday evening! However I’m sure the Jubilee was a bit more lively ahaha. What’s your favourite UK city?
@@TravellingWithCon I do agree, it's never so bustling and vibrant as Glasgow or edinburgh, but there's alot to appreaciate there, My favourite uk city is really difficult tbh, I think in terms of pure excitement, london is definitely up there, but edinburgh and cambridge are easily the prettiest and both definitely nice, but my favourite might actually be colchester, thanks to some really interesting history from the roman period all the way through the civil war and even some of its modern culture, it's one of the places I'd really love to just walk around and see all the interesting pieces of history scattered, it's much like york in its size and history, but with a more widespread appeal to everyone, from the castle to the zoo, there's no one person who won't find something they like there
Don't get that one, Sheffield is just a smaller Bristol, both very nightlife/alternative culture cities with strong Dance music/party cultures with a very strong focus on students and outdoors due to both being close to bouldering/hiking AONBs. Also both Bristol and Sheffield have terrible city centers, Broadmead in Bristol center center is honestly way more sketch than any part of Sheffield city center. In fact many Sheffielders I knew were people pushed out of Bristol due to gentrification and rapidly rising prices and they wanted a city that was pretty much just Bristol but cheap. Netheredge is nothing but Bristol expats lol. Bristol gentrification also has to be taken into account, it's as expensive as London in rents and prices, yet has Northern England/Wales wages.
I emigrated the misery of the UK in 1997. On considering returning, I narrowed it down to a handful of Cities that would even be on my radar: Bath, Cambridge, York, Durham, Brighton . That’s it. Needless to say, I won’t be hurrying back. The rest are crap. Edinburgh possible but too cold in August and, well, Scot’s.
Swindon is the largest settlement in Wiltshire with a population of almost 200.000. Swindon is definitely a city according to international criteria, which is the only criteria that counts. The very idea that it should be left to the British regent to decide what is a city is just ridiculous.
Neither Swindon certainly not Weston Super Mare nor Bournemouth is a city - please check your facts. Plymouth is much better than Exeter... go there again very busy - thriving the biggest footfall increase and major new work going on there - biggest street realm work in the country..
@@TravellingWithCon hundred percent! Undergone massive transformation. Bit rough around the edges but people are absolutely great, the surroundings are beautiful and the town center has been rebuilt over the past years. You better off give it a shot if u got the chance.
when he spoke of Swindon as being horrible I saw a video of a nice looking place which he then said was not of Swindon but of London - I gave up on this video at that point, after having watched an advert and fake news of Swindon. Not coming back
When your county is so irrelevant that he talks about every city in the sorrounding counties except yours and other youtubers talking about cities or counties have no idea what goes on there haha.
Norwich is the greatest city in the world! ;) . Good list btw, but I disagree with Brighton being that high. I love near there and it’s not that great in my opinion 😭. Norwich is way better!

Coventry is near to Leamington Spa... and Swindon is near to Bath, Cheltenham and Oxford
Indeed indeed! Are you from the UK?
And also apologies I didn’t realise the mic cut off around 26:08!
A very interesting video
After many many years without a proper holiday, for my wife’s 60th birthday, we had a short 4-day break to London late in 2022, travelling down by train from Newcastle. We had a brilliant time, so have had several more short city breaks since. These have included Edinburgh (twice), Glasgow, London again, Manchester & Liverpool, Leeds & York, with three more repeat trips already booked for 2024.
Initially we visited single cities, but more recently we have been combining two cities in one trip which can work out quite well (2 x 2-days)
I am now trying to think of somewhere new to visit, for late in the year, or even early 2025. The earlier you can book, the better deals can be had .. and it gives us something to look forward to.
I’ve been thinking about Inverness, Aberdeen, Cardiff, Nottingham, Sheffield. Derby, Chester
Although my wife likes the shops, we both enjoy seeing new places of interest, such as museums, cathedrals etc.
Regards from Whitley Bay
These towns and cities are due to be amalgamated on the moors north of Manchester as the Greater Proletarian Reservation.
Betting shops, charity shops, and branches of Poundstretcher are already under construction.
Strong cider will be provided to homes on tap.
Apply now, places will be limited.
this helped me a tonnnnnnnn bro thanks
Glad it helped! 🇬🇧
amazing content!!!!
Thank you! What’s your favourite UK city?
@@TravellingWithCon Do not know yet :-) But I agree with you about the Balkans, Athens is the best
I live in Cambridge and it is fun but the uni students are annoying here but always go to the market square for lunch
Weston-Super-Mare, the last resort
It isn’t the best place ahahhah
Well, it has much more going for it than Morecambe!
As someone who lives close to Bristol I'm surprised to see it top of the heap, although Clifton has to be one of the classiest suburbs of any city in the UK.
Clifton certainly is a lovely place indeed! Great cafes, restaurants and architecture - what’s your favourite UK city for you?
@@TravellingWithCon In terms of architecture Bath or York take some beating. For a weekend away I'd say Manchester or Liverpool.
What about the small citys?
Amazing
I left the UK 40 years ago, and am so happy about that. It was one of the best decisions that I ever made. Now whenever I think of the UK, I think of a really old, boring, and dusty industrial museum
Oh it’s indeed depressing in the UK! Great decision! Which country are you in now?
Came here to see how much you did or didn’t enjoy Lancaster 😊❤
@@DoeFoot unfortunately I’ve not been to Lancaster 😭 is it good? Would you recommend? 😃
Lancaster is a dump! For a County town, it is a joke and nothing like York.
Aberdeen should be in the top 10! And I’m English!!
I’ve never been! Is it that good?
@ yes, it has everything you need/want. It’s called the Granite City because most of the prominent and important buildings are made with the local granite, which glistens in the sun when wet. Lots of history and a pretty good nightlife. Great pubs and some very good restaurants.
Congrats u just oissed off the whole of Swindon!
British cities are fun
Which ones are you favourites?
You missed a lot of cities, eg Worcester which is lovely and historical, visit the excellent Worcester Cathedral.
Thanks for the recommendation - I’ll try to visit one day!
My favourite place is Cambridge .
Ahhh ok maybe i need to give sheffield another chance one day ahhaha. Which suburbs would you recommend?
Yay! Brizzle!
I think he just pulled names out of a hat.
I live in Bristol but I don’t see to many protests, probably because I live in Clifton but still
as an english person, id like to take this moment to say that I think you're a little too worried about dundee, despite being very pro-independence, they are still pro commonwealth, I went up there for the platinum jubilee in 2022 and everyone on my street came out to celebrate with a lovely jubilee trifle and some drinks, The view from up the law is also incredibly pretty and there is often stuff to do there, it feels like a great hybrid of edinburgh's architechtural and natural beauty, with the location and naval history of portsmouth, it also holds the origin to the beano comics, dennis the menace and all that, and it still very much keeps that artistic culture
@@TravellingWithCon I do agree, it's never so bustling and vibrant as Glasgow or edinburgh, but there's alot to appreaciate there, My favourite uk city is really difficult tbh, I think in terms of pure excitement, london is definitely up there, but edinburgh and cambridge are easily the prettiest and both definitely nice, but my favourite might actually be colchester, thanks to some really interesting history from the roman period all the way through the civil war and even some of its modern culture, it's one of the places I'd really love to just walk around and see all the interesting pieces of history scattered, it's much like york in its size and history, but with a more widespread appeal to everyone, from the castle to the zoo, there's no one person who won't find something they like there
See my city is so shite that it’s not even on here 😂
Where you from? Ahah, i probably haven’t been ahahahh
Ouch for Sheffield
It is a little ugly (in my opinion ahah)
@@TravellingWithCon maybe you should’ve called your video ‘ranking city centres’ lol. Then I’d agree, because it’s rubbish
Plymouth still has some full of character ancient streets and a decent castle, but the newer area isn't anything special.
Where is Belfast?
On the Island of Ireland, not on Britain!
Ahahah. Things have got even worse since you’ve left ahahah! But best of luck! 😅
You fell at the very first hurdle: Swindon is not a city.
Aberdeen?
@@intermarium9091 never been unfortunately! (Or fortunately ahahahahah, what is it like?)
Whato
Nos. 33 and 31 are not cities. Therefore I can't be bothered with the rest of the video.
Swindon is the largest settlement in Wiltshire with a population of almost 200.000. Swindon is definitely a city according to international criteria, which is the only criteria that counts. The very idea that it should be left to the British regent to decide what is a city is just ridiculous.
Im astounded
Neither Swindon certainly not Weston Super Mare nor Bournemouth is a city - please check your facts. Plymouth is much better than Exeter... go there again very busy - thriving the biggest footfall increase and major new work going on there - biggest street realm work in the country..
What about Chester !
It’s a nice city to check out for day!
I was born & bred in Manchester, lived here all my life 67 years, it's a shithole now, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone
I think maybe Manchester is suffering from overdevelopment!
Where's Barnsley?
Do you recommend visiting Barnsley? 🫠🫠
@@TravellingWithCon hundred percent! Undergone massive transformation.
Bit rough around the edges but people are absolutely great, the surroundings are beautiful and the town center has been rebuilt over the past years. You better off give it a shot if u got the chance.
South Yorkshire. North of Sheffield.
Shithole
The question that has been asked for centuries along with Why Barnsley? 😂
when he spoke of Swindon as being horrible I saw a video of a nice looking place which he then said was not of Swindon but of London - I gave up on this video at that point, after having watched an advert and fake news of Swindon. Not coming back
Completely arbitrary to the point of being meaningless.
True, this is an arbitrary video - but good to spark some debate ahah!
I don't understand YT why my comment was removed! Or maybe I just don't see it from other reasons, then ok.
Oh no I saw your comment don’t worry! I just replied to it now - I was just very late replying ahaha sorry!
Obviously personal opinion in this like 😂
Yes personal opinion! 😅
When your county is so irrelevant that he talks about every city in the sorrounding counties except yours and other youtubers talking about cities or counties have no idea what goes on there haha.
Norwich is #19? Are you mad?😅
Ahhaha do you rate it higher or lower? 😂
@@TravellingWithCon Definitely higher. Top 5 for sure.
4:39 waaaaaaa 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
Replace Liverpool with Bristol put Liverpool at number one and Bristol at 8 now you have a decent list
Ahah, Liverpool is a great night out I must say aha
Bristol!?!?!?!??! There are gonna be so many disappointed people lol
@@Jamesdallimore90 as far as UK cities go, it’s arguably the best we have ahahaha (at least to visit)
Bolton?
Norwich is the greatest city in the world! ;) .
Good list btw, but I disagree with Brighton being that high. I love near there and it’s not that great in my opinion 😭. Norwich is way better!
Bristal is not a good place
Bristol💀
Edinburgh should be at 33, bottom of the list. It is awful.
Ahaha why? In terms of a visit, it’s got some of the nicest architecture on this (rubbish) island ahah. Maybe living there is a different story ahha
Liverpool is better than Manchester
Mmmm they’re not too dissimilar I think ahaha. Are you from Liverpool?
Edinburgh shouldn't be on the list at all. It's a dump.
Bro what Edinburgh is the most beutiful place in the uk right near the highlands and the sea and the people are so friendly
