I'm so glad they captured the slow motion footage. I can imagine mathematicians going crazy with excitement applying chaos theory about the patterns that occurred as the towers collapsed. Especially the last tower on the left. Well all of them when it comes right down to it. If only Fred Dibner was still with us. He'd have loved to have seen it, and then said to the camera 'Did you like that?' with his wonderful accent and a big smile on his face. I miss Fred. He was one of a kind.
I lived in Woodside for the first 16 years of my life. Every day when I went to school we'd have to drive past them. I grew super attached to them. I've lived in North Wales for a further 6 years, and when I heard about this, I immediately drove down and caught my own film and uploaded it on my channel. Can't lie when I say that I shed a few tears when they fell.
They were the *only* pink ones in the UK, there wasn't any other pink ones in the UK, and I worked on majority of them, from North Yorkshire to Essex to Oxfordshire.
@@medicatedflowers821 Sad day for Telford really, worked there 15 years, along with rugley, Ratcliffe, West Burton, Drax, Didcot, Tilbury, with gas fired stations in between, did the bio mass conversion in 2012, millions spent on the upgrade only to cease service in 2015, I came across some photos of the turbine House when we had the massive fire in 1998.
DANNY73 o agree mate I grew up right near them so saw them for nearly 30 years daily it want be the same driving past or looking at it from a far and there not there id have just left them as there iconic but that don’t make money
Worked on there a good few times on outages upto about 20 years ago. Since privatisation it was run down to the ground anyway. Should have stayed CEGB. Like Rugely, a bugger of a place to find digs, hence bought my 1st caravan. Saved a fortune. Odd they blew all 4 in one hit, but a nice clean job.
I worked on a lot of Power stations in the Midlands and NE Regions when it was the CEGB doing NDT and it sad for me to see them go. They were prepping in the mid 80's for privatisation by cutting costs , increasing the periods between outages, and monitoring rather than repairing major defects, basically to make them seem more financially more attractive to the new owners. You did a better job than me saving money by getting a caravan, I just spent mine in pubs and clubs :) Happy and wild days (and nights) all the same.
I worked there during a maintenance shutdown as a scaffolder some 25 yrs ago. It was without a doubt the dirtiest amd most unhealthy place ive ever worked in. Not to mention the noise! I remember vividly going up in the dilapidated external lift to the 154 floor as we called it. Presumably called this due to the height.
I'm 20 miles away in Castlecroft, Wolves. The sound wave shook the walls of my garden workshop. I didn't know the day this was happening, so my brain went from sonic boom over land to alien attack! Ha ha.
It shook my class man and I heard and me and the over class were all watching the live video but it is sad to see a piece of are well famous I think??? History
End of a era!! Gonna be so sad to see the Rugeley Power station Cooling towers demolished 😢 known them since I’ve been a toddler, I’m now 34. stood right next to them when I was a course with the school. Gonna be a real sad day 😢
It had to happen but from an engineering point of view and performance a cooling tower is a lot of construction principle. To blow her stilts out from under her is far too easy by comparison to building her! I do believe however that the pigment used in the concrete was always a compromise in the long run. They came down almost too easily somehow? Cheers,Len.
worked the outages many times for Davidson sirocco dirty place many pictures of conditions we worked in just the way it was to turn a coin pipe fitter welder Gethro now in USA
Indeed it was filthy. We erected some scaffolding inside, underneath the coal shuttle run. We all ended up at the doctors,as we were all passing jet black stools. We had digs in Brosely amd even after a shower we would get asked by the locals if we were wearing eyeliner. The coal dust would dye your lashes that bad
@UCBOGP5V7oNgOGGJjQByik3g I used to live in Ironbridge and I had no idea this happened - went back recently and I was so confused why the gorge looked different - until I found about the towers and I was devestated. The landscape just isn't the same despite the fact they were a man made structure opposing the natural vista.. shows you how much you get used to things. And damn did they fall fast!!!
All these historic beautiful structures coming down Plenty more gone since this video I see Ratcliffe power station every day and still in ore of it....there an awesome sight All to be replaced with crappie turbines that are an eyesore randomly dotted around our country 🤮
BLOODY HELL FOLKS !!!!😃😥Guys I heard it in my school class room at about 11o'clock and I dont know how I felt and heard it all come tumbling to the ground
Once upon a time, 4 gracious towers stood, guarding the landscape, Protecting history from collapsing on itself... now they are gone and they rest in peace...
Yes I know I just think they are pretty remarkable and they may identify as 4 cooling towers but they are a piece of history in that specific local area. They had a colour which blended in with the soil and it just seemed to suit that area. Now it looks quite bare and looks pretty empty. But yes I know.

I was crying. Literally crying when I went to Telford to see this. Those cooling towers were iconic and had a special memory to me.
I had a little cry too. Felt as though part of my heart was being ripped out.
I live next to it I cried so much
Some good footage, I was stood somewhere behind you. Shame the video has the music over it, the sound was the best bit!
It won’t be long until they build really expensive homes local people can’t afford to buy
Exactly
Spot on. Fortunately, they are planning to extend that steam railway up from Horsehay down to the site of this as well.
Exactly. That's probably why they've knocked them down...
The End of an era its gonna be wierd not seeing them
I have so many fond memories of that place and the lovely ladies who took guided tours around explaining to my students how it works
They were the only remaining pink cooling towers at least in the UK, and now they're gone...
I was there too, so I like
They were the *only* pink ones in the UK, there wasn't any other pink ones in the UK, and I worked on majority of them, from North Yorkshire to Essex to Oxfordshire.
DANNY73 Shame there gone

Their image is etched into my memory from 1972.
Ironbridge regatta will never be the same :(
Well homer simpson dosent have a job any more
Haha, he was fired from Chernobyl after blowing it up, and then moved here only to be blown into millions of ‘D’OH’ sized pieces.

Some great footage there and good quality. It's such a shame they were demolished. The history is gone and landscape changed for ever 😓
I had no idea this was happening. :(
Great footage. Thank you for sharing. :)

Hello I'm Mark I was just wondering if I can download this and use it for a video I'm making about advances in technology?
Nice vid, thanks for sharing.
Great video
Thanks!
I worked on the foundations for those towers in the early 60-ties. For an American piling company. Time flies.
Great work. Thanks for sharing.

Damn, I was at school on the day, but I still heard it!
Very historic but sad moment... i had lots of memorys there... greetz and best wishes to everybody in Telford
Makes me sad seeing them go down living in the area and not seeing them will not be the same
I imagine you had to know them to appreciate them. Reading the comments they really are going to be missed.
I lived with them in view of my house for over 19 years before I moved to Wales. I drove down specifically to see them go :(
Sahvi That is sad, like saying goodbye to old friends.
CHIMNEY STACK OFFICIALLY SAVED FROM DEMOLITION 💙
