    These are the best learning experiences. University degrees are good only if you do the work and actually learn the stuff. Back in my days, probably still true today, we didn’t learn shit at University. Either the teachers didn’t care or couldn’t teach. There were no learning materials other than textbooks. In class, you normally have no idea what the teachers were talking about. As soon as they put something up, they erased it and you couldn’t see the info. You would miss the whole thing. There’s no way to get the info back. These days everything is online. If you can’t learn it online then... you are not going to make it.

  • @Geomaverick124
    @Geomaverick124 6 лет назад +36

    I think i may give it a shot. You would have to be strategic with the degree. If you took the classes and got the free degree you could go to an actual 4 year school and see if credits transfer. If they didnt you could test out of certain classes and pretty much get a cheaper degree.

    • @ProgramWithErik
      @ProgramWithErik  6 лет назад +6

      Let me know how it goes!

    • @StevieKnight
      @StevieKnight 5 лет назад +10

      It is HIGHLY unlikely the credits would transfer. Universities are desperately trying to KEEP their monopoly.
      Fortunately, companies are increasingly focused on what a candidate is able to do, rather than just their degree.
      If you can show EXPERTISE in a field, degree or no degree (and if you can show that you DID complete these courses), that is FAR more important than any degree.

    • @davidpoulton7694
      @davidpoulton7694 5 лет назад +2

      Most universities will not accept credits from colleges and even other universities because it helps fill their pockets.

    • @SoulTonic

      I think at best you could sit some kind of formal exam somewhere, just walk in and pass it with the knowledge that you've gained and pay for the certificate, then use that to count towards a degree maybe. I studied Portuguese myself then went and did the exam one afternoon at a prestigious London Uni which I can now show on my CV. The courses would also give you the confidence to study a degree afterwards using your newfound abilities to pass with top marks.

    • @WanderingNasi
      @WanderingNasi 3 года назад

      As mentioned, a lot of big schools will only accept a certain number of transfer credit and they typically have to classes from institutions with specific transfer courses. You're best bet is to take the free classes and hope the knowledge gained is enough to test out of the classes. Which again, is usually limited to only half of the total credit hours needed for graduation. But still it could save you two years or more of time.

    So much easier to decide what you want to do...focus on your skill set. You can take any of these open courses on your own. I also disagree that finishing this is not as good as a four year degree. That curriculum would prepare you way more than say...Uconn. However, just as a CS major taking classes in English lit is a waste. So are many of these if say...you want to be front-end.

With the help of various RUclips tutorials I can pass the interview but, my skills had a lot of lack of knowledge. The last year, in October, I continue with that path. I'm currently in another job with a better salary and I think that in November I'd finish that path.

    I think...I'll just get a "transitional masters degree" by taking 4 micromasters in Computer Science from Edx instead. 😂
    One micromasters is 25-50% of a masters.

    • @taliskujim4736
      @taliskujim4736 2 года назад

      Because qualifying for a transitional Master's degree in Computer science requires a Bachelor's degree that is not in Computer Science or Information Technology.
      At least that's the case for University College London. 😜

    • @taliskujim4736
      @taliskujim4736 2 года назад

      I just noticed in the description of the OSSU CS curriculum that "it is assumed most of the people following this curriculum are already educated outside the field of CS". If that's the case...assuming they are educated with a Bachelor's degree and a working in a job, I'm thinking why not find an affordable online transitional Master's in CS to pay tuition for instead.

    It's a cool way to get started and learn the material, but at the end of the day you'll have to take that knowledge and study another 4 years at real university to get a degree certificate that is recognised around the world. If the courses were externally verified and accredited by some exam board, then perhaps they could count towards a formal degree.

    A lot of self-taught programmers like to knock university courses, but the truth is, the value of such courses are that they have been curated over many decades and have information structured in a way that you simply cannot get on your own. If you arrogantly go out on your own, you can literally go YEARS without ever encountering search/sort algos, binary trees, printing patterns, etc. even when they may be exactly what you need to solve a problem, whereas you encounter and master these concepts in most introductory CS courses in a matter of weeks. I've seen self-taught programmers who never even use pseudocode, which just goes to show that just because you're self-taught, it doesn't mean you're any good.

      I disagree, I studied programming and software engineering on my own and now is a manager who corrects mistakes made by the everyone else. It doesn't matter where you learn. Learning is learning.

      Try doing a free online Intro to programming course from MIT or Harvard, you will encounter those concepts but certainly will not master them. You are not supposed to master algorithms and binary trees, etc in an introductory CS course. Anyway some courses you can find online are lecture recordings of the actual class from MIT or other top universities. Actually I'm majoring in CS in an actual uni, and so disappointed with my university's instruction quality, compared to the online lectures you can find on MIT ocw or edx, coursera, the actual offline one is a joke.

    Always remember to repent of your sins (sin is transgression of YAHUAH The Father In Heaven’s LAW: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, & Deuteronomy) And Have Belief On Yahusha The Messiah. HE Died and Rose three days later so that you can be forgiven of your sins!
    HE Loves you! Come to HIM🙂🙂🙂🙂
