    This video is about the WGU Computer Science Bachelors Degree.
    Computer science is one of the best majors (if not the best) that you can take if you want to set yourself up for success. But in order to get a computer science degree, you have to go to college... And college is very expensive and time consuming... Until now
    Western Governors University offers a CS degree that you can easily get in less than 2 years (and in many cases much less than this). This is something that in many cases I have recommended to my consulting clients and those who have bought my paid products, but for the first time I'm starting to talk about it on this channel because it has gotten such amazing results that I really want to share it with the world and help as many people as possible.
    These methods involve using study.com, straighterline.com, or sophia.org in order to test out of classes or take college credits externally (much faster and at a better price) before you start at WGU. Study.com, straighterline, and sophia are all good, but study.com in my (and others that have extensive experience degree hacking) opinion is the best. It has the most options, the best and fastest classes, and the least friction to transfer credits in.
    Getting a WGU Computer Science accelerated degree is very easily done in less than 2 years of overall work, and in extreme cases it can be done in less than 6 months. And a WGU Computer Science degree is a respected degree, people who get it have amazing things to say about it and typically get job placement very quickly. My friend Josh Madakor for instance immediately got an offer from a FAANG company after getting his CS degree in 2 months.
    Enjoy :)

    WGU is great for people who want a 100% online Comp sci bachelors degree (very few universities are 100% online) and also for people who want to work at their own pace. 6 months is EXTREMELY aggressive. As Shane mentioned, you're going to have to pregame. A lot. If you're starting from scratch, it's going to take years. I cannot recommend community college enough, get all of your gen ed out of the way through comm colleges, and most offer the gen ed courses online. ALSO, computer science degree != programming efficacy. It takes many, many, many months to become a good programmer, in most cases it takes years. No matter the route you take, IT'S SO WORTH IT in the end. Happy coding.

    Just a heads up for those interested, WGU uses a pass/fail system meaning that they do not calculate your GPA(your GPA will always be 3.0), this could be a turn off for those interested in pursuing a M.S. in a competitive Uni, but if you don't mind I'd say go for it.

    • @trevorscott3275
      @trevorscott3275 2 года назад +9

      Maybe, your GPA is always a 2.0 from the schools that I know that see a P/F. Some schools may weigh a P/F differently, so keep in mind of this if you apply for an MS.
      Also, many employers I know of don't consider WGU credible since it's a purely online school. For a lot of online degrees to be credible, you may have to take an online program from an actual State University.

    • @ltshellshock4168
      @ltshellshock4168 2 года назад +81

      @@trevorscott3275 WGU is 100% credible, and the employers saying otherwise are ignorant of the direction higher education is going. As a matter of fact, Georgia Tech frequently accepts WGU grads into their Online MS in Computer Science (OMSCS) degree. You get to save a ton of money and time and then turn around and complete a master’s degree if you choose that's ranked top ten in the country. • @ShaneHummus
      @ShaneHummus  2 года назад +64

      Great point Miku. I know the traditional education institutions hate WGU because they are simply providing a better service for students at a much lower cost (which makes them look bad), so of course some of them aren't going to accept WGU. With that being said, Georgia Tech has a top 10 CS Masters degree program and accepts WGU grads. University Of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is a top 15 public school and accepts WGU grads regularly. There are many more examples of options and routes you can go if you're a WGU grad.
      ...And to be honest, there are really only a few situations where getting a masters at one of these elite schools is really going to help you that much. I've done videos on the statistics behind this and students that get into elite schools, but choose to go to other schools end up making just as much money as those who get into elite schools and choose to go to those schools (at a fraction of the price). So going to an elite school is highly overrated, sure there are a few circumstances where it may help you because of the signaling/status of achieving an elite school, but overall it doesn't seem to make much of a difference to the average person (except that it costs you more)

      Trevor, WGU is extremely credible. For instance, Josh went to WGU and then immediately got an offer from a FAANG company right afterwards. Or mix a CS degree with a prestigious Law degree and do niche forms of law like scientific stuff or tech law, maybe AI law. Heck, just from having Calculus I you could get a lot of respect and possibly get into say like Goldman Sachs and do Financial modeling if you have the other resume cookies.

I am interested in business degrees but not sure on which one to get, do you recommend me to get a bachelor in business from WGU or it's better to get it from a normal universities that offer 4 years degree ( bachelor)? Can you make as same as this video for business degrees that WGU offers?

      I was an older student too. I went the traditional route for my degree, recently. The universities I went to said that math and science classes couldn't be no more than 7 years old. So I wasn't able to transfer just two of my classes over because I had completed them in year 2000. According to some universities (per Google search):
      STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) courses have a 10-year shelf-life. This is typically because advancements in the field evolves the understanding or practical methodologies used within them. A rule of thumb: If your STEM courses are older than 10 years, they may not transfer.
