Dang 45 years of service to BNSF is impressive!! Congratulations to you sir!
But did he start out on Santa Fe or Burlington Northern?
@@MrBnsftrain great question! I'd like to know myself
3:41 Congratulations on your retirement there Robbie Hartwick.
RUclips needs a sad button for 611 and happy button for a wonderful career as a locomotive engineer and the son follows in his foots step! Thank you Virtual Railfan for putting this together.
Happy, long and healthy retirement Mr Hartwick, you've earned it Sir!
611 is going home😌
Farewell 611. Even tho I did not see you in real life, I liked seeing you on RUclips doing your thing.
Hopefully VMT and NS will run trips with it and not put it on display with the 1218
NOO ITS BEING SCRAPPED
@@SoFlorailfanner108noooooo😢 that sucks
According to rail news articles, 611 is returning to the Virginia Transportation Museum. May be used on other excursions.
@@SoFlorailfanner108 Not funny
Breaks my heart 611 leaving but hopefully the Queen of the Rails will steam on in for another visit soon. We rode with her on the 20th, open air car near her headlight on the way. Treated to 2 Amtrak's passing at Paradise. What a treat! Last year rode behind her several times and paid for ex to go on one of the cab experiences. He almost died from sepsis and he said knowing he was going to get in her cab helped him keep alive all the months he was in hospital. Having 611 at Strasburg is like a celebrity doing a residency in Vegas.
I was on the same trip in the same car when the two Amtraks passed!!
About time too but It made Strasburg famous
@Railfan Ashton Productions Granted Strasburg has gotten a large amount of noteriety with 611s visit but "The Road to Paradise", as just about the first steam heritage railroad 70 years ago, has been pretty "famous" in and out of the railfan community for half a century!
Stay tuned for an exciting announcement on future 611 operations at a later date coming soon.
Farewell 611 you where one of my favorite steam trains
Stay tuned for an exciting announcement on future 611 operations at a later date coming soon.
Farewell 611 and safe travels
As someone who watches from the UK, with great enjoyment but very little knowledge, I really appreciate the helpful comments as frequently I have no idea what I'm looking at! I also enjoy the witty ones like 'moon AND train'...
Seconded by another Brit!
12:39 Well 611, I hope you enjoyed your stay at Strasburg. It was certainly an honor to see you for the first time on September 28, 2019.
Where is it going?
@Not a rotom with hair Back to its home at Virginia Museum Transportation in Roanoke, VA. Hopefully more opportunities for excursions will soon develop.
@@kennethhanks6712yay she’s coming back home
Bye 611 I'll miss you so much 😢
Hey VA, thx for sharing 611 for a time here in PA! Good memories! Take care of the ol' girl💛💛❤❤💛💛
Safe trips 611!!
Congrats to Mr Hartwick for his years of service!
And oh boy on that Kearney accident.... hate people who don't pay attention to signs.
The collision in Kearney reminds me of the accidents out here in California. Drivers out here hit and run due to no license, no insurance, or no registration. Also combinations of the above.
8:38 I'm guessing stolen car, judging by the way the dark car blew through the stop sign and peeled out of there after the collision. That's what the chuckleheads in my neck of the woods (Chicagoland) do: Steal a car, then drive like a maniac until they wreck it. Dumb and dangerous.
@@SarahRenz59 yep. that's what happened to my car in February. they had it 2 days and it was totalled. Kia.
fear well 611 and we thank you
611 coming home to Roanoke!
Happy retirement Mr Hartwick, I wish I had worked as you did for a railroad, I'm retiring from Wojan Window and Door Corporation after 50 years, about 10 more days and it's over, It's a family business and I love them like they were mine. God bless you sir.
Happy retirement yourself!
611 will be missed 😢 😪
Don't worry, 611 is just going back home to Roanoke.
Well, it was fun while it lasted.
@@andrewcrumb8027 Which Norfolk Southern 611, the RP-M4C slug diesel or the 4-8-4 J Class steamer?
@@zacharycalgher3978 you should know the answer to that plus it’s norfolk and western 611 no one’s ever referred to her under the NS name
And NS never owned the N&W 611. Long before the merger N&W gave it to the city, of Roanoke which conveyed it to the Virginia Museum of Transportation. I don't know what arrangements were in place between NS and VMT for the excursions.
Congratulations on 45 years!!!! That is impressive.....Did anyone add up how many miles you would have traveled???
Farewell 611. Safe Travels ❤
We will miss u 611 🥺😭
Farewell 611!!
All the Best Mr. Hartwick, 611 is a classic, very enjoyable footage
That sad to see 611 leaves the Strasburg Railroad 😢😢
Great Grab Bag ! Nice Musical Sunset! Congratulations 611 & Engineer 🎉❤
On those NREX SD40M-2s: I actually tried to contact the scrapper to see if any of the air horns or warning bells were available but luckily those aren't getting destroyed to my knowledge
I really hope the VMT actually uses the 611 for excursions and don’t just put her in the shop to not run
Congratulations on 45 years. Happy retirement!
There is a Restaurant in Roanoke VA named after that locomotive called Old 611 it's a great restaurant. I wonder if the bicentennial locomotive 1776 is still on the tracks it came out while I was working at the N&W back in the 70s
That food is indeed good
@@charlottecunningham2141 it is very good .....we aren't big restaurant goers ..but if we're in Roanoke we're going to eat there
Easily, one of (…if not, THE) absolute BEST VR video, EVER!! Too many fantastic catches to mention (…including GP-9s!!🤩)
I have saw their Norfolk & Western 611 at the Strasburg Railroad back in September 5th 2021, along with 475. That was a couple years ago. I am going to be returning back towards the Strasburg Railroad next month soon.
My congratulations to Robbie Hartwick!!!
*Nice Catches*
0:14 CSX SD70MAC with new Amtrak Midwest Venture cars.

1:26 a UP SD74ACe leading and two RJ corman units trailing
2:02 Santa Fe heritage hopper and a northern Pacific one later in the same train
2:28 damaged autorack doors
2:40 BNSF 1205 again.
3:13 they're tearing part of the old fort?!
3:40 Congrats Robbie! You've survived quite a lot of changes in those 45 years.
4:20 WOW! three SP gray units and an ex-UP one, all SD40M-2s but only three rebuilt from SD45s
5:10 I've never seen one of those hoppers before
5:40 Oregon and Northwestern boxcar
6:25 P42 159 and ALC42s 334 and 332 on the Capitol Limited
6:50 the two RJ Corman locomotives again on a different train
7:45 FEC GEVO and SD40-2 on a ballast train
8:36 SUV taps the rear fender of a car failing to stop. Was he running from the cops? I can't tell if the white emergency SUV is a police car or an EMS car, but an ambulance, black and white police SUV, fire department SUV, and a fire rescue truck (one with no water pumps) also go to the scene
9:40 this guy gets lost and ends up on the tracks in Elkhart. Three cop cars show up.
11:33 NS pier 6 coal hopper
12:30 N&W 611 being called for its journey home. 8618 pulls 611 and its tool and water cars to Paradise. you can also hear 8618's new horn

Big Sandy got some luv 👍
8:40 that’s what you call a hit and run
THanks for the sunset at the end.
It's a shame what happened to the Somerset Railroad. I'm glad there's a few gondolas still roaming around
Now that they're wearing NSSX reporting marks they are owned by National Salvage & Service Corp. Technically they are still hauling an energy product but rather than coal it's scrap railroad ties used for cogeneration at smaller power plants. CSX has used their services for several years
Where did they operate and what closed them?
@@csx_defectdetector Western New York state. 17 mile railroad owned by a power plant, CSX operated the trains. Disgusting New York State politicians shut them down due to a ban on burning coal.
Second car accident really drew the cops, they must have had a slow day!
Love those SD-45’s! Hope they’re not going to the scrapper. 🤔
Crash 1 at 8:30 :
Black Sedan is at Fault. They CLEARLY Ran that Stop Sign when the White SUV had Right-of-Way through the Intersection, And Fled the Scene of the Crash.
Someone is getting their License Suspended and Then Some for Reckless Driving and Fleeing the Crash Scene.
Crash 2 at 9:40 :
Not sure if Distracted Driving or Lost /Clueless Individual. I've seen plenty of those drivers.
Ticket or Violation for Railroad Trespassing is Likely. They best be glad No Trains were approaching.
Love the Sunset from Cordele, GA!
Great Grab Bag!
For crash 1, could be a felony if the driver of the white car was injured.
I love 611.
Looking forward to 611’s next adventure!
Whew…there's so much to unpack, as usual:
- Tip o' the hat to Mr. Hartwick (and Son) - you've seen a lot of changes in the industry, probably enough to write a book.
- 8:40: Had the same happen to me a few months back, but I was on a Vespa at the time when someone blew a Stop sign. Still recovering from injuries, but no permanent damage, thankfully. Too much of this happening post-COVID.
- 611: Sigh…so close, but so far…she was mere miles away from me, but as I'm currently incapacitated (see above), I couldn't ride by to see her. Last time I was up-close-and-personal was in Newport News in 1983. Lots of photos and memories.
Good going yet again, VR!
To the hydrogen locomotive: “Look How They Massacred My Boy.”
Amazing video!!!!!
The 611 will be seen in other cameras as well while it heads back towards its home state Virginia
Congrats on 45 years of service
That shot of both interlocking home signals at Leaman Place Junction being lit for Proceed won’t be seen again for a long time! I am curious how disruptive the move was for eastbound Amtrak services.
You'd be surprised how often both westbound home signals are clear. Generally late at night when there are local freights or MOW equipment in the area.
I will miss 611
I watched this live Before School Today was a Massive Sight for me to see. Hello from Bellingham WA!
😁😁 HELLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO 😁😁
Nice view ❤
That autorack had some damage to it and awesome video
I wonder what did that kind of damage in the first place?
I believe it hit a bridge
611 belongs at a museum, not a scrap yard. So long 611!
SP still lives!!
I saw a Pan Am Railways engine pulling about a dozen cars at a Railroad crossing in Chelsea, Ma this afternoon. I wish I knew what I was going to see so I could have had my phone ready. I know it wasn't in this video but i couldn't find the one I saw it in. I wonder if this was the same one. They must have repainted most by now.
Awesome Video
🚂🎊🇮🇳🎊🚂
0:45 That is a mighty fine looking camera, but wayyyy too big to be a pocket camera. Maybe this is a special VRF cam for their next location?😂
First CSX heritage unit!
At 17:00 it looks at first as if 611 is switching onto the main track, rather than the NS loco backing her onto the line. It was a great illusion.
Goodbye 611. We will miss you and hope you come back soon.
Congrats on your retirement Mr Hartwick... Safe travels back to Roanoke 611 and crew....
Hi
How are you doing?
Hello
Wait a minute does 611 now have class 1 mainline equipment installed
No. As before, it's being towed with only enough steam up to operate the lubricators.
@@LeftVegas I also heard that she might be allowed to do a little pulling while on the road to Roanoke, while still coupled to NS and fully under supervision. One of the 611 crew told me that during the last weekend at Strasburg.
Very surprised that 1205 is still sporting those archaic Blomberg trucks from 46 million years ago with the leaf springs....
WOW!! We have a sighting....15 sec at the HSC.... we all miss you HSC!!!! 😁😁
Wow, that HH20B is one wierd looking loco! 2:54
What happened at 2:30? That black car in Kerney looked like he was running from the cops because he never stopped. And caused another one.
Does anybody know when exactly 611 is heading back to Virginia, and what (maybe) what route?
The special train was shown heading west to Harrisburg, PA. If it was headed back to Roanoke (???), then it would probably taken the line south from the state capital to Hagerstown, MD and the connection to the old Norfolk and Western “H-Line” down to Southwestern Virginia.
Farewell 611!
1:15 That's so shiny I can see myself
Anyone know when 611 will make the journey to Roanoke from Harrisburg
2:43 explosion engine 2:53
You should set a live camera in Rockwood Pennsylvania
is Going Home in Roanoke.
0:56 1827 on M541!! 😊
Stop signs are not yield signs. Nor are they optional. And someone got hurt by the disobedience. 😡
6:59 again the rj corman gp9 s
Stay tuned for an exciting announcement on future 611 operations at a later date coming soon.
Must have been a slow day in Elkhart Indiana because it took 6 police officer's to handle one car stuck on the track
What bastardised Amtrak consist is that supposed to be at 6:26? It even has less cars than the Texas Eaglette which I didn't think was possible.
Farewell 611
Stay tuned for an exciting announcement on future 611 operations at a later date coming soon.
6:29 Amtrak alc-42 chargers
12:29 farewell 611
Was that hit and run!?!
You guys act like RJ Corman is some rare occurrence. I see them everyday where I live 😂
😮
1:56 rj corman EMD gp9 and gp9m
611 needs to come back southeast
Hi
How are you doing?
Why would 8618 need to tow and or accompany 611?
Rip 661 o7
611's not going to be scrapped. Just heading back to the Virginia Museum of Transportation in Roanoke, VA.
@@andrewcrumb8027 Awesome
13:49 anyone know the time stamp on Strasburg PA where the part where the switcher was honking it’s horn? Anybody know?
Does anyone know what type of horn is on Strasburg 8618 ? Reminds me of Erie lackawanna.
16:24 ns gp38 and n&w 475
What a cowardly thing to do is to drive off after hitting another vehicle.
Great video, N&W J Class 4-8-4 611 heading home to Roanoke VA, glad they were able to run it in Strasburg, hopefully one day it can run on main line home rails again under it's own power!🛤🚂
Why was Corman on the NS Chicago Line?
Where can I recommend a camera placement? I know a perfect place!
I was holding a stuffed railroad sign
What was on the flatbed at :40 👀 it looked like a giant record player turntable
That looks like one of those crane turntable things
