@@nzvplc Toro y Moi flies under the radar. I don't know why, but I will say that I put in his albums all the time and the reception is not always positive. I think he's one of the greatest musical artists and producers of the last decade, but not everybody feels him.
My cousin is a part of the touring band of TYM. He's the "Anthony" that Chaz mentions. Back in December of 2019, I got to record a 3 track mini ep in that warehouse studio he's talking about with my old band for 3 days! Of course I got to see Chaz a little bit and chat with him. I've been able to meet him 4 times before and he's so sweet and cool :)
Agree, it really blends the sound from that album as well as "What For?", I really love it. Felt like his sound was getting too "processed" on the last two albums, although there's still a lot of great stuff to be found. Toro y Moi is always pumping out great sounds.
Y'all mahal is lit. I came across it accidentally and am not familiar with his other stuff, but I'm always like "I need new music" and so finally have an artist who is new to me I can dive into :)
Loved what he had to say about representing his southern heritage without being cringey or whatever. Dude is looking to the future while referencing the past.
I have been a supporter of Toro Y Moi since the early SXSW days. On top of that, he is also partial Filipino so I know he comes from a humble background. I remember meeting him on SXSW a couple of times and I believed in his music so much. Very chill and good, laid back Chaz. Knew I predicted he would tour a lot. I'm just really impressed by his creativity and his connection with his audience. Go Toro!!! Thanks for making a new record
that backstory to boo boo was so cool to hear man. I totally knew that upon hearing it for the first time, but also just thought he was choosing to share that experience lyrically for the first time in an album. For me, underneath the pine captures the earthy, cosmic, universal connective energy sonically and he does it so naturally. It was fulfilling to hear the thoughts he articulated lyrically in boo boo.
Chaz Bear is one of the greatest artists living in the Bay. I own everything he's ever done. He always ensures that vinyl is available for his albums. Never knew about the Washed Out connection. Washed Out is my #1, and the connection makes sense. When Chaz said Darius, I thought he was talking about the Roche Musique Darius from Paris.
Chaz has been my top 1 artist for almost 10 years now. His music is my inspiration to make something of my own. Such a down-to-earth, talanted and honest guy, perfect role model. Hope someday I'll see him playing live in person
@@AsterisqBeats yeah that's why I am craving to see them live. Unfortunately this will never happen since I live in Kazakhstan and he will probably never visit it on tour. There was a chance to see him in Russia since he played in Moscow back in 2013, but due to the recent events it is now impossible.
@@JakeTheSnake1337 ah that's tough. Hopefully you can make a trip to one of his european shows then. Until then you can enjoy his music online with the rest of us! Cheers friend

Chaz has one of the best discographies of this past decade.
Seriously, he's so fluent in music that he can make music in any genre and it still sounds like him. It's incredible

Who else's discography can compete or come close? Genuinely interested in opinions disguised as music recommendations
@@porquejonny930 i love king gizzard in terms of variety
Melon has such a furious serious resting face when he's listening god damn
he has the same face while responding "good" lol
Looking at his stern gaze makes me feel like I’m on the wrong end of a gun 😂
been listening to Toro y Moi since Kanye posted Talamak and Blessa on his blog in 2009. Glad he’s still out here kickin ass
love the "first version" too :)
Damn mf got the Kanye bump? Know what I got from the sza bump? Nadaspin.
Loved the new record. Glad that Chaz is representing 🇵🇭 through his music.
Great album visuals too, the aesthetic references to Filipino culture feel rly authentic. Well done
genuine question how come this only has 28k views on a 1m sub channel even after 2 days

@@nzvplc 49 minutes. Plus melon's fans tend to only watch videos that they relate to or previously know about, and toro y moi is not super well known.

Just such a humble and down to earth guy, love this dude

Mahal flowed so well. His best since anything in return
Loved Mahal, but Boo Boo and Outer Peace were both fantastic too. If anything he's been getting better and better since Anything in Return.

This record is PHENO"MAHAL" ... as a musician myself I am seriously hooked on this album.
Saw him at second sky in Oakland last year. Dude was straight 🔥
me too, was super good
Loved his performance and jon hopkins
Same...one of my favorite sets from the fest
I’m a simple man, I see Melon & Chaz and I click. TYM did not disappoint with this one, Mahal is definitely in my top picks for AOTY.
he seems so down to earth and genuine :) loved watching this
One of my favorite artists of all time, good to see an interview
chaz's music literally saved my life

There is not a bad Toro album. There's either great albums or albums slightly under that, but there are no bad Toro projects.
What a great effin convo! Chaz is a great subject for an interview to begin with anyway but I loved the chemistry between Melon and Chaz
Mahal kita Chaz 🇵🇭💙
Saw em in Chicago right before the pandemic in 2019. What a show!
I believe I was at that same show! Nov 2019?
Same! Pitchfork!?

Went to his Asheville show this past Saturday, it was a great concert! Love his personality as much as I love his music!
MAHAL is the best thing he’s done.

Not even close. Still good though

My favorite record is What For so I may be in the same boat as you!

Hearing a Toro song in 2011 on a Tyler, The Creator mix was one of the best things to ever happen to me. Huge fan since, new album is great!
hell yeah one of my favorite musicians of all time. underneath the pine blew my mind growing up and still one of my favorite records.
I honestly prefer when his albums have that rock band style so I'm glad he returned to that style.
I am so grateful this popped up in my recommended now, not sure how I didn't see it sooner.
Chaz has been one of my favorites for years now, great to see him on here
Chaz is the man. New album slaps
what a handsome man
I'm a photographer/writer and I've been a huge fan of toro for a solid decade
It's pretty neat how Fantano is starting to regularly interview so many artists that he poops on.
Toro got the poops too, we all do
MAHAL IS SO FCKN GOOD
What For is still #1 for me in terms of my personal liking …
But this is almost Anything in Return level for me, fantastic album for Chaz
As someone who also ranks what for #1, and also loves anything in return, i was super happy with the sound of this new album
Anthony about to give Toro Y Moi’s new album an 8/10 after this interview

I love his music!!!! It’s so eclectic!!
Can’t believe you didn’t ask him about his bass effects/pedals.
Getting better and better with age :) Awesome record! Loved the listening party video as well :D
Caught the first stop of the new tour on Mahall release day, what an insanely good show.
Toro Y Moi = toro y (Spanish for 'bull and'), moi (French for 'me'). His surname is Bear so he's saying "Bull and Bear" 😄
I love Toro! Thanks for the interview melon
we need a Toro Y Moi country album with all percussion is reduced to just bongo drums
Mahal a great album and such a great rollout!
wild coming back to this and now there is a Toro country record w Sandhills lol
My man shoulda showed up on the best drp vid

Anthony is pro rollout for giving us the Toro y moi album review
Love Toro y Moi! 💐
Would've never expected this
chaazz foreverrrrrrrrrrrrr
First heard his music in GTA V (Radio Mirror Park) and loved the rest ever since
love the album roll out and merch.
I suppose because of the guitar band approach Mahal gives me a vibe similar to Shuggie Otis. I like the humor, I like the album a lot.
CHAZ BEAR NEVER DISAPPOINTS!!!!

MAHAL s/o to fellow filipinos
