Perhaps I didn't explain something well enough because a lot of comments are completely missing the point: Gears 3 is overwhelmingly boring and there is nothing to spice it up. It doesn't actually matter if there are occasional glitches or not. There would still be over an hour of completely dead time and numerous boring fights along the way. That is the true core of the issue.
It wasn't made to be speedrun! It's a amazing game with a strong story and to give up on the story by number 3 would be pointless, The build up to Doms death and the scene itself is one of the best moments in gaming ever, Gears ain't just a game it's a beautifully wrote story which nowadays most games don't even bother to do, more arsed about how much they can make on micro purchasing
@Flurby thank you for the replies and for not making it out like I was arguing it wasn't my intention, It came from an old school gamer who grew up on campaigns/single player...devs are scared to make a solid game franchise that is story first multiplayer second, seems to making a comeback though...Thank God for Resident Evil Remakes and definitely Doom 2016 and Etneral making single player relevant again
Speed-runners are divided between a dying breed of speed-runners which refuse to use glitches and manipulations. As well as the glitchers and manipulators. The leaderboards are so corrupt they allow for certain glitches and manipulations to be used. The legit players like myself have to directly compete with these cheaters. It is demoralizing when someone can start with an over 1 in 100 advantage every time. While legit players just have to use what they have. Getting lucky to have that same over 1 in 100 advantage. Which is unlikely to happen on a strong run.
Despite Gears 2 having the best Campaign, it is still nowhere near Gears 3’s level. Gears 3 has the better multiplayer, gameplay, movement, weapon tuning, horde, maps and it had beast mode.
@@AhhSlickerz nah the slow strafe and not being able to pull away from wall bouncing made that game. Gears 3 was second best for me. Great maps, great new characters, power weapons and customisation. But the introduction of the sawed off and retro lancer fundamentally broke the multiplayer experience, for me anyway. Completely altered what was once a level playing field and killed the game.
@@Monztxr Not being able to slide cancel doesn’t even make that much of a difference, people act like it’s a giant game changer. The Sawed Off isn’t even tough to deal with.
Gears 3 will hands down have the best ending in the franchise by far unless EDAY manages to be the best game of the franchise. Just when Marcus goes up to Myra and stabs her with Doms Knife and says “ feel that, that’s for Dom “ the amount of just YES screaming you feel is amazing I don’t know if we will ever get a better ending then that
My sister refused to play after dom died 😂😂😂 it's been like 4 months and I can't convince her to pick it back up because she's so salty about her character dying😂😂😂
Bro I almost quit playing Gears of War 2 and was gonna go sit in a closet and cry when they killed my precious baby Benjamin Carmine. Honestly only reason I hate the locusts
I actually HIGHLY respect game devs that manage to have little to no skips or speedrunning tech in their game. It can be incredibly hard to design environments that robust so thoroughly, especially when you release it into the wide world full of people actively trying to break it. It's for this reason that it will never frustrate me. It's even to the point where I started to find the idea of a plausibly achievable "perfect" time for a game somewhat appealing. It's an unexpectedly satisfying feeling of working with the devs rather than against them.
Gears 3 is the best overall in terms of side modes, multiplayer, progression, gameplay etc... gears 2 has the best campaign and carries some of the horror atmosphere from thr first game. The first game has the best atmosphere and is one of the scariest mainstream fps's. Any one of them could be your favorite, but gears 3 is objectively the best.
Damn, they thought of everything huh? I thought Gears 3 was buggy at times because of the softlock but they really went out of their way to prevent unintentional glitches. Speed runners adapt to the game's flaws but there's hardly any flaws to take advantage of lol. Also did not know that there's a secret stamina meter in both 1 and 2 for roadie runs.
Not the brag you think that is. Who cares about you wasting 300 hours on a 3 hour game? Speed running takes skill and way more then 300 hours of practice.
@@FnRenner You know, i enjoyed this game Story, the beast mode, horde, coop with my friends. Its not only singleplayer, (but i finished storyline many times too). I never understood speedrunners, i get the concept behind it, just finish the game in shortest possible time, but you finding glitches, bugs or use so crazy movements. But i dont care, i play games to enjoy them.
There are hardly any games that are literally MADE for speedrunning. It's usually driven by emergent gameplay that devs never intended. This is the case for basically any Mario or Zelda game, but look at those communities. People have to experiment and find out what's possible and what's not before calling it a good speedrun. For Gears 3, it turns out things are on the side of not and that's all the video is about.
@Jiggy113 cool story bro. As someone who played the game multiple times different difficulties with players and solo about 85 percent of the time I either got a full on lock until restart or soft locks. I was playing on a high end desktop perhaps console is different.
@Jiggy113 well that tells me it's likely a pc issue then but that being said gears 5 isn't worth really playing for a long time it's easy to burn out on even the multi-player isn't as enjoyable as say gears 3
I never really understood Speedrun like I can understand trying to beat the game as fast as possible, but shouldn’t a speed run be how fast someone can beat a game without breaking it so it shouldn’t really matter if the game can’t be broken because speed Runner should still be able to trying to beat the game as fast as they can through skills instead of just breaking things
In general, if you're able to consistently do a trick a few seconds faster than the next person, you're more skilled than them. When glitches become very predominant or start to trivialize the gameplay, that's when more popular games have created other categories for things like glitchless.
i put countless hours into gears 3 and i am STILL shocked at how aggressive the head bob is whenever i see this game again, about as enjoyable as motion blur
Damn, and all this time i've been ignoring those flaws in GoW 3! I did try to grind this game but one month of Gold was never enough to finish the grind :c
Wait, Gears 3 is loved? The gameplay and everything related I totally understand, but the story? I always remember 3 feeling very weird, bit out of place, compared to the first 2. Still loved it, but it's my least favorite in the trilogy. Maybe I need to play it again to see why people like it so much.
That one probably didn't make much sense without understanding the full context. 😅 The past few weeks I haven't only been playing Gears 3. I don't even play games everyday because of life. If someone were to do 10 runs per week that's over 30 hours, and realistically I cannot play even that much. Hopefully you can see that with such few runs being possible, to get the run killing health bug twice in this short time is actually quite significant. It would make grinding for a good time that much more frustrating.
So basically the games made too well for it’s time and is critically acclaimed but speed runners are upset at the fact you can’t bullshit the game and finding it “boring” when the so called “dead times” is meant to be there for dialogue for the story or to take in a scene of a new area, the games meant to be enjoyed not ran through.
Speed running a game why you don’t even experience everything the game has to offer if you do your just rush through it o and here’s your reward. Nothing😂
i pray e day will be good, i miss this franchise so much and to me gears 1 - 3 marks a golden age of gaming for me, they are masterpieces of game design
I never understood the enjoyment of rushing through a game. Instead of enjoying a story. Some people just want to rush through it and just complete it. Even going as far as skipping cutscenes. To each their own I guess 🤷♂️
I see where you're coming from and generally agree with the sentiment. What you have to realize though is that people who speedrun have played their games many, many times already. They know the story, they've seen the cutscenes, but the gameplay of going fast can always be improved more. It's an additional way to thoroughly enjoy a game they like.
Soo basically the complaint is its a fully fuctioning game and you havent been able to break it? Games arent made to speedrun surely thats where the challenege is?, or dont yas like it because some skill is requires instead of running through a wall?
Why was it showing 2 copies of some of the games when you showed your installed games near the end of the video? There was nothing in parentheses when you moved the cursor between the Gears 3 icons either, so it doesn't seem to be a case of regional versions from what I can tell.
@@Flurby That was my initial guess before you moved the cursor to show neither version of Gears 3 had "(JP)" on it. Which begs the question, how do you tell them apart if that's the case?
Some of them only happen when you try to optimize and execute well. Unless you're playing the game multiple times per week and learning the game at a precise level you're unlikely to experience problems. Tldr problems for speedrunners
For my friends and I Gears 3 is by far the most disappointing camping… I’m not saying it’s s the worst but maaaaan they were really pushing the 4 player coop with big dumb arenas that don’t fit Gears corridor style of gameplay. It’s just boring most of the time. I didn’t like the Deux ex Machina ending, I didn’t like that half the “story” you’re trying to fix some machine to get to the next boring section.
