    This is a fabulous video! I will definitely have to recommend this to people who ask me all about the types of bedding. They all have their pros and cons, and I really do not believe that one is better than the other. This is wonderful for people to know that there are options! Lots of love!

      +carislittlepiggies Aww thank you Cari! I always get asked which is better & I totally agree that none win over others (except for certain shavings that is!).

    Really great video ! I think once I move out and have different cages, I would quite like to have one section with bedding and one with fleece. Megazorb and easybed are my two favourite substrates for guinea pig, there's no dust and they are both soft and very absorbent :) xx

    I heard u can use the pelet type bedding with fleece on top so it is compleatly ordour free

      Yes you definitely can :) Seems like a great use of both disposable bedding & fleece!

    I am so glad I've swapped to carefresh now even though it is a bit pricey I don't mind paying because it is much better for my boys than the woodshavings they were on. Love your vid Char it's very informative for first time piggy owners like myself. Keep it up!!!!

      +Fiona J Aww thank you Fiona! Your support means a lot :)
      If you're looking for a decent but cheaper alternative to Carefresh, I would highly recommend Fitch bedding! I'll be having a review video up of it in a couple weeks time. We've been using it for a couple of weeks now and I have to say it's pretty good for the price!

    • @fionaj5074
      @fionaj5074 9 лет назад +1

      Yeah I was looking at fitch as well. Im going to see how carefresh goes (money wise) and if im having trouble I will switch to fitch lol thanks again!

    This is very helpful since ive been using puppy pads cuz my parents dont let me was fleece in the washer, and i recently found out that puppy pads are toxic for them to eat so ive been saving up to buy a big bag of bedding :)

    What bedding would be best to put in their litter box at the moment I am putting newspaper and hay on top but I would rather use bedding but I don't know which one would be best

    • @SugarSpicePiggies
      @SugarSpicePiggies  8 лет назад +3

      Ideally I would recommend a paper based bedding. Whether that be Carefresh, fitch, megazorb or something similar. :)

      +Sugar & Spice Piggies Ok thanks! I think I might go with carefresh

    +Sugar & Spice Piggies At the time, I tried using Yesterday's News pellet bedding with carefresh before then Carefresh itself was just not working. I found out that after everything i tried fleece is the best choice. I think i might experiment again in the future.

    That is a good question what is a safe laundry detergent for them...I switched to Arm & Hammer with Oxi using Oxi extra in there loads...I now wash there bedding on warm!! I also use shout for stains & no softener...We don't have temperatures on our machines in the US like the UK machines... We also don't have filters on the washing machines just our dryers as I've learned lol...Thx for your help Shey

    • @SugarSpicePiggies
      @SugarSpicePiggies  9 лет назад +1

      +Sheywh12 A non bio detergent is best, some people also use non-scented ones too!
      It's so strange to me that the US don't have temperatures, or accessible filters! Crazy!

    • @Sheywh12
      @Sheywh12 9 лет назад

      +Sugar & Spice Piggies The US is cheap for its animals and peoples well beings...I just have to pray warm is hot enough and not too hot!!! Nope I have a basket clean on my machine and I use it after washing their laundry with bleach and soap and hot water to wash out any crumbs or hay that was left in the machine

    • @Sheywh12
      @Sheywh12 9 лет назад

      +Sugar & Spice Piggies Do they say non-bio on them or do you have some to name ??

    • @Sheywh12
      @Sheywh12 9 лет назад

      +Sugar & Spice Piggies Inswitched to Arm & Hammer cause baking soda is so good at Bacteria & odors... I also use vinegar to help wick and also for my Uhaul pads to keep the bacteria & odors out of them... With soap...

    We just got our cute guinea pigs and I'm thinking of making a special bedding made of three layers, first one from fleece then under it something like diaper fabric and the last one nylon or polyester fabric..is that ok for our babies?or we need to improve it to make it mor comfy?

  • @sharonkim5381
    @sharonkim5381 9 лет назад

    Pet palace tv uses straw for Guinea pigs for warmth and to have a munch on sometimes 😊 I think straw is fine at times and can be used as bedding.

    • @SugarSpicePiggies
      @SugarSpicePiggies  9 лет назад

      +Sharon Kim I personally would never use it purely because of the risk of pokes in the eye, since it is quite hard. But I agree that it is fine at times, ideally in beds & hides for warmth like you mentioned. But overall I wouldn't recommend it.

      +AyemeePigs I make some of the little extra pads, I wouldn't dare attempt the large ones haha! For the little ones I have only ever really used towel & cotton wadding to cushion it. I know that some people use Zorb too & in the US Uhaul Pads are commonly used. Hope this helps!

    Great video. Glad to know I'm using the best bedding (also try to do my research). I use fleece and then paper pellets in their litter/hay tray. Would love to have a fleece care video from you soon :-) do you recommend a certain washing powder/tablet or what is safe?

    mind that skinny pigs are special! for them fleece or very soft bedding is realy important, straw or wooden shavings can hurt their Skin!

    I love your channel! But I have a question.. One of my twin piggies passed away and I've gotten really caught up with testing for school. Are there any little things I can do to give my piggy more attention? Or get closer to her, as she won't go near me anymore...

    • @SugarSpicePiggies
      @SugarSpicePiggies  9 лет назад

      +Tristabelle Sutcliff Ahh thank you! I'm so sorry to hear that one of your piggies recently passed away :( Your existing little piggy seems to be very depressed since losing it's friend, so I would highly suggest getting her/him a friend if you can! How old is he/she? As if they're still young it would be most beneficial to their health to have a new playmate to keep them company. In the meantime though, veggies should work wonders! Maybe some new activity toys to keep their mind active too?

    • @nicoleryan1464
      @nicoleryan1464 9 лет назад

      Thank You so much! I'll be sure to stock up on more veggies for her! ^v^ And she seems to have lost interest in toys since this happened too (I tried getting her all sorts of things). One last question though. Would it be a big difference financially to get her a friend? I know her happiness and wellbeing comes first over everything but the only reason I haven't moved forward to getting another piggy is because I really don't have much money. Is there anything that might be a huge financial issue for buying another piggy?

    Great video!!! So much the US pet stores don't tell us..I used wood shavings for yrs on my piggies...Why do they sell this stuff if we aren't supposed to use it..I would think they want us to have another Piggie every 4-5 yrs...Cause for the longest that's what I was taught to believe was a piggies life span...I'm so glad I've learned different!!! I was using those dusty shavings before I started using a fleece pad in the kitchenette area...
    m.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/small-animal/small-animal-bedding-litter/so-phresh-natural-softwood-small-animal-bedding
    This is what I used for Taz cause it was what we were told to use...The shavings are softer than Aspen so we thought they were okay🙄🙄🙄🙄So glad I changed that stuff is so dusty you couldn't keep there room dusted to save your life!! Thx for the great information!! FYI I'm slowing getting my energy back went grocery shpg. yesterday 😄😄😄😄...Hopefully getting I've this pneumonia... Hope your doing good take care Shey

      +Sheywh12 Thank you Shey! So glad to hear you are doing much better & I really hope you're fully recovered soon!
      I totally agree about Petstores, people just don't know any different as they believe it's safe. Should be banned in my opinion, but because it's cheap & relatively easy to clean they won't I'm sure! >:(

      +Sugar & Spice Piggies They would if you started a petition I would be the first to sign it someone like you or skinnypigs1 would be perfect for making a petition to fight against the sell of this stuff and to teach people what all this animal n Ed shoe the well being of its life... I mean it's like a miniature dog for crying out loud they don't know how much care goes into them they buy them for there kids expecting the pets stores to tell them what would be a good starter pet... I mean I don't think a piggie is for a kid without teaching the kid that goes with any animal really!!! Parents really and so done on them knowing!!! I've boycotted them till they stop selling animals they know nothing about...Instead they should send you to a adoption agency at least they would tell you about the pig and what they need as they don't want to have to rehome them a week later...Thisnsubject burns me I would start a petition if I knew what u guys knew!! Lol take care Shey

    Your allowed to use saw dust

    • @SugarSpicePiggies
      @SugarSpicePiggies  8 лет назад +3

      Do you mean sawdust or shavings?
      Because there are certain shavings that are recommended, but sawdust should never be used for Guinea Pigs. It is way too fine & hence the name 'dust' can easily get into their lungs and cause serious issues, eg. Scarring, pneumonia.
      Sawdust is way to fine a bedding for Guinea Pigs and should be strictly avoided.
