I just wanted to say how helpful these videos have been for me. I’ve been researching about different alternatives, but it’s been really difficult to find out how they actually perform. There’s not many people who do these kind of videos. Sorry, this is exactly what I needed to determine which kind of bedding I want to try. Thank you
It's just so nice that you yourself trying out so many different types of bedding to be HONEST i am in LOVE with your channel and of course your PIGGIES ♡♡♡♡♡♡ ❤❤❤ i don't comment much but i am here since quite some time 😊 THANK YOU☺♡♡♡♡♡♡
I use chopped rape straw, which is similar. It rots down really well, clumps when wet and is easy to spot clean. I clean my cage every 2 days in problem areas, and give a big clean out only when necessary. I find it very economical too. In the uk you can put it in your green bin (garden waste), which you can’t with shavings.
I use the hemp for our hamsters and rabbits, i get 20kg for around £14 from our local country store. I love it and like you said it falls of the fleece blankets i use, for the rabbits in the colder months.
It's a great alternative to shavings, especially if you want to use it alongside fleece and it's a great idea to use the 2 beddings together for the colder parts of the year :)
Your piggies are so precious! I'm in love with Lychee and Mr. Jaffes, they're SO adorable! I don't know if I could find hemp bedding in the U.S., I tried and really couldn't, but I didn't really look everywhere, I'm going to go to your web page to see if I could find something. Great video!
Thank you Susan - they really are such lovable piggies! You can buy hemp bedding online in the US - check out the webpage as I have some links to the hemp bedding you can buy there :) Here's the link: www.guineapiggles.com/article/hemp-bedding
Thanks Monique. We're getting on well still with the Guineadad fleece bedding but with an 8 ft by 4 ft cage it does make for a lot of washing per week-! Luckily, I have an Aga with a drying rack above it in the kitchen so can dry it all quite easily. The reduction in waste from using fleece is a great plus in my opinion and the piggies seem to really love it. The cage has a lot more space for them as I need to use less large hideys as they also have the fleece pockets which, now they've got the hang of them, they love snuggling into. I have made their dining-room/play room run extension a little smaller outside the cage now as they're spending more time in their main cage. I think the fleece will be really cosy for them over the winter if I can keep on top of the weekly washing!! :-) It is a lot of work with 7 piggies!! I tried the Aubiose a couple of years ago (as I think I mentioned to you) and agree with you that it does perform better than shavings all round. However, I found I couldn't even lay it down in the cage without it really making me cough and splutter (although it isn't dusty at all) so I used the bag but then didn't continue with it. I must have been allergic to it perhaps? I did also feel it's quite hard for their little feet and with my size of cage, that's a lot of money each week to put in the compost bin! I will be interested to see how you get on with the next tests on bedding. Your piggies are such movie star celebrities now!! Love to see them all. Thank you again and best wishes, Jemma :-) x
Hi Jemma, I'm glad it's all going well with the fleece bedding and I'm sure having an Aga is a huge bonus - that's the thing we struggled with most was getting it all dry! The fleece pockets are such a great idea. That was the favourite place for Sparkles! It's a shame you didn't manage to get on with the Aubiose but it's no good if you're allergic - especially not much fun cleaning out if it makes you feel that way either. I think the piggies are quite enjoying their new-found celebrity status but I don't want them to become too big-headed about it all! :D :D :D
hey i know it is one year later - lol but if u see this please tell me how the hemp bedding was and how to clean it because i will be getting 3 guinea pigs soon and i wanna try out hemp bedding
I am about to use the pine for my hamsters wish me luck. I think contrary to popular belief it should be just fine as it's kiln dried and has no chemicals
My Guinea pigs are getting litter box trained. So when they are done getting trained we are gonna use half hemp and half fleece. They also get A LOT like over 15 new stuff as a reward. Yes I use my own money as a girl under 15 years.
I wouldn't describe it as soft. Pine shavings are softer and paper-based bedding is also softer. But it's not sharp - I can rub the hemp in my hands and it doesn't hurt in anyway or feel abrasive.
It's not soft like pine shavings or paper bedding but it's not an uncomfortable surface for the piggies delicate feet plus it has anti-fungal and antibacterial properties as well as being extremely low-dust. I guess you have to balance the pros and cons of each option but our piggies seemed to be very happy with the hemp bedding and we didn't have any problems :)
@@GuineaPiggles I see! Thank you for responding. I may start to use wood shavings in the hay box as they tend to be cheaper than the paper pellets that I have been buying. :)
It's worth a go and see how you get on with them. When you say you can't use pine, is it because you have an allergy or are you concerned about the aromatic oils in it?
hey, i know this was 2 years ago, but if ur maybe seeing this i would be soo happy tho.:( so.. im gonna use hemp bedding for my guinea pigs, but can i put like soft things on the hemp? like soft beds,.. bc u just used wooden things
YES, you need to have softer touch above the main bedding for your rodents! I found Small Pet Select paper bedding and PetsPick Uber Soft paper bedding are better because they are high quality products that can last longer than Kaytee or Carefresh bedding. Those name brands aren't great by the urine absorption to worked.😔
No no. Equines need very different bedding to geuni pigs 1:equines can not feel through their hoofs 2: equines do not stand in the stall all day 3:equines can sleep standing up Do you see how different equines are now?
Just because it's a good bedding for horses doesn't make it a bad one for guinea pigs. There are many different types of bedding you can use for guinea pigs and they all have their own pros and cons.

Thank you for this video. I was looking for new bedding for my little ones. I am going to try hemp bedding
I'm glad it was helpful :)

Hi there can you do a video on how you built your enclosure please? Absolutely love it!!!
We've had that on our list for a while - we will do it at some point but need to build another one to show exactly how we do it :)
Very helpful video thank you!

Yes I use my own money as a girl under 15 years.
That’s great that it doesn’t stick to fleece!
It's so much easier as it just falls off fleece rather than sticking like velcro! :D
Where can we buy that castle/building/hideout?? lol Whatever is called. You keep to the left and it has a lot of holes for them to hide in.
You can get it here amzn.to/3eLtFx9 - it's on Amazon UK :)
It looks really good but it does look a bit sharp for the piggies feet. Is it softer than it looks?
I wouldn't describe it as soft. Pine shavings are softer and paper-based bedding is also softer. But it's not sharp - I can rub the hemp in my hands and it doesn't hurt in anyway or feel abrasive.
Okay. Thank you!
Is it softer than it looks? That is what is keeping me away from wood bedding in general as I can't use pine.

@@GuineaPiggles I'm concerned about the other animals that I have in the room such as the birds.
Oh, I see! I thought you might have an allergy but if you have other pets you've got a lot more considerations :)

Can you mix pine shavings and hemp? or just leave them separate?
You can mix the two. In fact one of our recommendations is paper bedding and aspen shavings mixed together :)
Pine stinks aspen is best no smell
