Yeah while it can be more difficult to find a good exterior shot in some cases, I would still recommend trying to capture some and at the very least test it against your best interior shot to see what increases Search to Listing Conversion. We believe people just prefer to see what the building looks like first before exploring the interior when judging on places to stay. But if the exterior shot doesn't end up performing as well, an accent wall inside can be the next best way to get a Cover Photo to stand out from the competition.

All killer no filler. I believe the interest algorithm has recently been tweaked though, according to a prominent STR owner with inside connections. CTR and conversion is still very important, but maintaining customer satisfaction is much important now (I assume that's directly measured by ratings). Airbnb wants satisfied customers, for the sake of maximizing recurring customers.
Yeah it does sound like they'll be adding in some weighting during the recession toward the value rating within the review. It appears to have shuffled around the rankings a bit on Airbnb but I'm still seeing a lot of the same listings ranking high.

Yeah interior shots can still work when done right, especially if you try to incorporate some sort of accent wall to help stand out. You can also experiment with a scenic shot of the entire condo building which works well for real estate listings.

Yeah for sure! We've found the Cover Photos that works best for City condos are either photos of the balcony view or if you don't have a nice view, to feature a drone shot of the entire condo building and show an arrow pointing to the building where the condo is located and then 1-2 additional arrows highlighting proximity to main attractions.

Great question as you're on the right track, having a benchmark is crucial for numbers to have meaning. But it's actually the opposite where any CTR rate I tell you is going to be meaningless as it depends completely on the property and market. You want to check what your current "Search to Listing Conversion Ratio" (Click Through Rate) is on Airbnb with your current Cover Photo and let that be your benchmark and then swap it out for another Cover photo and see if it increases or decreases, which is all that matters when finding your best Cover Photo.
I would still recommend experimenting with a nice exterior shot of the entire building as people typically want to see what the building looks like first before deciding whether or not to explore further. But if that doesn't work I would recommend trying to add an accent wall somewhere inside which can also allow you to create a stand out cover photo in order to entice that first click

Yeah you can definitely push them to your direct booking website instead! The A/B test is mainly just to observe CTR of the Cover Photo to determine what phot performs best. After that, you would actually get better value by sending these interested people to your Direct Booking Website.
One more question while I have you.. LOOVE YOUR PAGE! Can you please tell me the software you use once the emails are captured for retention. I would love to have the automation you’ve done videos over but can’t seem to find where you mention what software you use. We use Mailchimp now and it’s just not delivering the extras you speak of. @@taraphillips7230 For sure! We used to use MailChimp but have moved to StayFi because you can collect emails of past guests and website visitors and send them your automated email campaign all through their platform. And they have great templates designed for vacation rentals that you can use too.

I would recommend testing out a Cover photo of the entire apartment building instead of an interior shot. This works really well for Real Estate listings for condos. If you are unable to differentiate your apartment from the others, just doing something that gets more clicks to your listing can be the next best thing.

What part of Canada were you from originally and where did you move to in the US? I grew up on the East Coast and have spent my career in Toronto but the juice doesn’t seem worth the squeeze so I’m trying to decide if moving to the US would be a better move.
