The new gear has great potential but as you said in the video, it seems confusing as to how to acquire the gear, due to the lack of information. The confusion should quickly clear up when the update comes out.
Yep. I just hope the grind wont be too much but thats some wishful thinking.

How much grind will require this "modify your playstyle"?
IF you don't do ops and ranked pvp, does it mean you are locked out of highest tier gear? Can such best-in-slot (BiS) gear still be obtained via other routes outside of ops and ranked pvp?
Flashpoints, personal and guild conquest all give top tier gear too. You can purchase the top teir gear from vendors using currency from dismantling gear which you can get doing any endgame activity.
The catch here is that everything has an rng component. Whatever you earn and buy from the vendors will have an item rating that is the same or slightly higher than you current item rating. What this means is that it will take quite a little bit of time until you start earning gear that is the highest item rating level.

Aye. PTS is subject to change but that might be one of the better tiered tacticals that is harder to get.
As of the last patch much of this has and is in the process of being changed. There was so much RNG in the system almost everyone on the forums was objecting. A tank was getting DPS or healer gear and nothing was static. They have updated and now you will get gear for your current discipline or you will have a drop down list that you can pick to get gear for different disciplines for your class.
In other words the first system was a disaster and the players made this very clear. There are also somewhere along the line of 19 new tiers of gear.. No that is not a joke.
Imagine if they had just released it without getting feedback from the community (Like 4.0 and Galactic Command). It would have been such a train wreck.
@@SWTORTV I am very glad they have not.. Server population is a bit low as it is and we would have lost a lot of players if they had. The system is still a bit of a train wreck, but improving. With any luck they will realize that players do not want RNG for progression and add more options to flush out gear sets.

Now that set bonuses are tied to the shell and not the armoring there is no point to augment lower leveled gear because you're probably going to get better gear soon. To me this just seems like it will make augmenting equipment more expensive and tedious.
It depends on how easy it will be to acquire good gear. Like if it takes a long time before you get another better armor piece then it may be worthwhile to augment a good piece of gear when you get it.
This is one of the easiest mmo games in the world one thing I love about gear in SWTOR it really doesn't make much difference.
True but that is what they are trying to change with this expansion. The gearing now is going to be designed around customization and having numerous different variations to accommodate different playstyles.
Guess we will just have to see...As difficult of a time as they have balancing or taking years to buff/nerf in some cases I can't imagine what a balance nightmare this is gonna be.
We will see. I hope PTs get some better dcds. they use to be my favorite class.

All gear is legacy bound.
I’m not sure how to feel about the way set bonuses work now. Because I already have all my equipped gear augmented with MK-10 so now I’ll have to augment all these new gear pieces which is a lot of time/money. Great video though!
Yep. Augments are staying the same and its going to be quite a credit sink. That and also rerolling for amplifier stats because from what I have seen on the PTS there are a lot of useless amplifier stats and only a few useful ones.
SWTOR TV yeah I’m hoping there will be a massive price fluctuation in GTN if we get a lot of returning and new players I have a LOT of cartel items saved up to sell. That should help with the credit sink at least for me haha.
