I know it's a typical boomer take but seriously I am worried for a lot of the kids growing up these days. I know someone who's social interactions are solely online. They limit themselves to some weird interest and their only friends are internet users 500 miles away who enjoy Overwatch fanfic community or something. Kids find themselves in these fringe ass communities that are occupied by complete degenerates, and they can't interact with anyone in the real world because of it.

From personal experience, I've been making friends on the internet since the age of 12 because I got bullied and isolated by my own schoolmates. Them even bullying those who were friends with me, you can't really assume that internet is always at fault for fucking with social skills. You could say that internet influences children behavior negatively, I do think there's truth to that. If a kid ends up in a community of degenerates by chance, it's just bad luck tho. Not all communities are like this, in fact, it feels like only lately I see very gross communities form. I don't understand why meeting people with same niche interests, that you probably won't meet offline, is bad though, especially when they don't behave like freaks.
As for why someone's social interaction would be online only, it's possible the person struggles with social anxiety or other issues. Also it's the pandemic.

The thing about the internet is due to only seeing profile pics and words on a screen, is it makes you feel way more adult than you are by nature of having access to shit you wouldn't and shouldn't, especially offline. Also, it makes kids feel like they're on the same level experience-wise as young adults/adults they interact with online. Not seeing that person in the flesh, and actually hearing and seeing them saying and reacting to this shit makes it much easier to go down a fucked up rabbit hole.

I think a lot of parents are also failing miserably at providing a moral foundation for their kids.
