Hey everyone! Back at it with another video! In today's video I discuss 5 of the reasons why you should consider buying a Dodge Challenger (or Dodge Charger) Scat Pack over a Dodge Challenger (or Dodge Charger) Hellcat. Obviously the Hellcat is an amazing car and there are plenty of reasons why you should buy one; however, the Scatpack is underrated and is one of the best cars you can buy for under $45k. There are quite a few reasons why buying a Scatpack over a Hellcat is a good idea. Find out the reasons in today's video! Hope you enjoy the content and don't forget to like, share, and subscribe. Just ordered my 2020 Scat Pack Wide Body. Just killing time watching any Scat Pack videos waiting for mine to get made. Liked your video.
Awesome! You're going to love it! Thank you for watching 🙏 check out the other videos I've made on the Scat Pack to see if any spark your interest 💪
How long it took for you to get it?
@@RobertEdits 6 weeks and one day. Ordered it 8/24/20, delivered 10/6/20.

You made some great points. This should help a lot of people with the decision. I know it helped me. Just purchased a 2020 scat a month ago. Love it 💪🏼
Awesome thanks man! Glad it helped and congrats on the ride! 🙌🙌🙌
Apparently Utah is cheap for cars. Most dealers are asking 35+ for a used scat
I think the scatpack is the best step forward from an SXT/RT but before you buy a hellcat. You have to feel 300hp. 365hp. 475hp. Then you can start to think about 707.
Yep totally agree! That's a lot of power to handle without having experience
That Utah Mopar 485 HP
i had no experience with lots of horsepower before buying my scat pack. takes a month or so to get used to, but i imagine it would be the same with a hellcat. no need to waste time or money doing the slow step up to the hellcat. just get one if you want one.
Lol my friend went from 2011 305 HP Challenger SE
To 2016 707 HP Challenger SRT and crashed day #2
Marc Jeanis lmao. It happens
Very good points and well explained, thanks
Man you know your stuff great job!!!!
I have a RT Shaker and 99% of general public think, since something popping out of hood- that's the most powerful car in Challenger variant. If someone does not know all trims, for looks - nothing beats a Shaker package.
Wide body Scat pack shaker 😍😍
well said bro. Love my 2019 shaker! I had thoughts about it but like someone said in the comments about HP I went from a 2018 v6 challenger to the 392. Get a lot of compliments it turns heads.
Awesome man! Glad you love it. It's such a sweet ride! 💯💪
I smoke hellcat and redeye off the line all day in my widebody 1320. I could have bought a HC but it's truly a waste of $$$$$
Thank you
LETS GO FOR SCATPACK
Dope video man!
Great video! Thank you
Glad you liked it!
Just got my a 2020 dodge challenge scat pack shaker its more then what I need i came from a v6 to a v8 392 love my car it turns heads everywhere.
So awesome! Yeah they are amazing rides. Turns heads everywhere
IT'S NOW 2022 AND I CROSS SHOPPED A WB HC AND A R/T 392 SPWB AND THE DIFFERENCE IS ABOUT $22,000+. THE MAIN DIFFERENCE TO ME IS THAT I PREFER THE RED ALCANTRA SEAT APPEARANCE OFFERED ON THE 392 R/T SPWB. I DON'T CARE FOR THE DE MONIC RED SEATS ON HC. PLUS THERE ARE A FEW MORE OPTIONS AVAILABLE ON SPWB 392 R/T THAN THE HC WB DOESN'T OFFER.
Thanks for the video. I like your points. I've already had a 2015 sublime Scatpack A8. I've been contemplating going up to a Go Mango Preowned Hellcat. I'm still on the fence though. Just wondering if its worth the 15k or so difference. I do love the supercharger whine. It was a great sound on my 03 terminator Cobra. Insurance will be a bit more along with the difference in payment. It will be a weekend only car and therefore a garage queen. My Ford C-max is my daily commuter. Great everyday car especially for the price they are going for now. I average 45 mpg with a 60 mile round trip commute. Great info appreciated from another car enthusiast.
you are a great talker no homo, keep it up. subbed.
Appreciate it man 🙏
LOL! Wow! You hit it! The Shaker is why I chose the Scat Pack. I love the Shaker hood. I first own a RT Shaker, now the Scat Pack Shaker
Awesome brother!
Good points!
Thanks man! 🙏🙏
I need to know what kind of watch your rocking im a watch guy and thats a really nice pice
I love my 19 shaker couldn’t see any reason to have 707 crank hp were I live, I do wish I had that whine tho lmao
Haha yep the whine is nice! Maybe pump one through your sound system 😂
SchwayZ_ nah, fake stuff ain’t muh style 😖
Swap in forged pistons and rods, and a camshaft and you can bolt on a blower easy
Sunny S hellcat blower sounds better than any aftermarket blower, even a whipple for some reason
@@203REV Agreed but you'd still need forged internals for the hellcat blower
You nailed it
I'm in this boat now upgrading from my RT which I love but I want more power and I love the shaker hood. I've looked at used hellcats but I've also heard from many people you can't put the power to the ground. IDK but modding my RT is not the answer plus I don't don't know how to work on cars. The scatpack shaker has always grabbed my attention, time will tell
Don’t know what happened since but I went from the RT to the Scatpack Shaker it’s so freaking awesome
Great video
Appreciate that!
I know nothing about cars, and it felt like you were speaking Spanish a little bit. But you had my attention the whole video 👏🏾 yay I learned stuff
Haha thank you for watching! And I hope you learned something new! It's hard to know everything unless you know these specific cars.
You look like Dr Mike. Also great knowledgeable video. I'm in the process of deciding between the hellcat and the scatpack for all of these reasons
Even though I recently got a Hellcat I still think the ScatPack is one hellavu car
Same I can’t decide if I want a new 2021 scat pack or buy a used hellcat
Watched several of your Challenger vids and this is the one that got the sub button hit. I've watched a bunch of these "Why a Scat and not a Cat" videos and it's always the same thing of people "justifying" how a Scat is better and not wanting to admit that they just can't afford it. You got me at the beginning when you admitted the Hellcat is the standard. But the best part is reason 5. You are 1000% right in that the average person has no idea how to tell the difference. Even car guys though too! I can't count how many times I've watched Drag race videos on RUclips and the track announcer keeps calling Challengers hellcats when they're clearly not. I just ordered a 1320 and both my sales guy and even the Sales Manager had NO CLUE what that even was. Even the dealerships can't tell the difference between Challengers half the time. It's actually kind of funny. And I'm not knocking against Hellcats because I have no problem admitting that I wouldn't hesitate getting a Hellcat if I could afford it, it's been my dream too since they first came out. Sorry for the long comment lol
Thanks for the sub man! Hope you are enjoying your 1320! 😈
@@SchwayZ I wish I was, but it didn't make it into production before the plants shut down, so it'll probably be summer before that happens. In the meantime I'll have to live vicariously through youtubers like you. Thanks!
I agree. Most SP vs HC vids are off base. SchwayZ makes sense. Suggesting that all Scat Pack 392 owners secretly envy Hellcat owners is like saying that all women secretly have penis envy. It's ludicrous. I can easily afford a Hellcat. I could have two if I want, but I bought a '19 RT SP 392 WB because I wanted adaptive cruise, better mileage, and a couple hundred pounds less weight in the front end during winter. Yep, it's my daily driver all year. The lower insurance rates don't hurt either. The absolutely immediate torque that you get from the naturally aspirated 6.4L engine at any speed is simply incredible. A Hellcat can't hook all that power anyway, even at a 50 MPH roll (without special tires and track conditions). The Scat Pack delivers more usable and controllable power across the band on normal roads and normal street tires. The Scat Pack is IMHO the better street car. Having 222 HP more power (in a HC) that I cannot use and paying 20G more for it doesn't make sense to me. I'm not a racer and I'm not interested in trying to impress everyone "Hey, look at me, I have a Hellcat". Literally nobody cares what you're driving 99% of the time and they can't tell what it is anyway. If I only had a dollar for every time someone called my Challenger a Charger. Hellcats are great and they have their place and their fans and that's all good... but I don't want one for myself and I don't yearn to drive one. I prefer the 392, all day, every day.
I have a 2020 SB Scatpack and people always ask me if it’s a hellcat. so I def get your point about the average person not knowing wtf these are.
I'm 1st! I'm not ready for the Hellcat yet mainly the cost is my issue. $800 car payment is tough! 😖. Plan is for a Scat Pack this year for under $500 a month. That is the perfect car for me! #scm great video! I need to meet you at some local car meets player!
Yep totally agree! Good luck on getting a scat pack this year man! It's a great goal! And yeah we definitely have to meet up at the meets. I'm sure it will happen once the weather gets warmer.
SchwayZ_ nice man! I love that 6.4 also. The hellcat is really expensive and the notes are what kills ya. I’m getting a scatpack next year.
@@nick__cars awesome! You'll love it. It's plenty of power at a reasonable price
I'm with you, im thinking of trading in my 17 SXT charger for a R/T Challenger but the payments have to be right, i want my next Challenger to have a Hemi
Get the Scat! Just know that the ring lands are tight and cannot Handle a lot of heat from boost.
Dam he just made a great point! The average person don’t know the difference between the 2!
I dont like narrow base models like camaro ss or 5.0 i would probably get a zl1 if i can find a good 2017 one. But might consider the scat pack now. It looks great
I planned on a Shaker until I actually looked into owning one. Your AIT will be higher if you live in a hot climate. You lose the heat extractors on the hood, so your motor will run hotter. And unless you buy a funky oil spout and hold your face your just right, you'll have to remove the Shaker just to add oil... All of that just to watch your motor go vroom.
That's why the "Shaker" option is purely cosmetic/nostalgia and you pay extra for that.🤑 They give you some special wrench to remove the bolts that hold down the shaker that you MUST remove when adding oil. Just more stuff to get in the way and remove when you need to add oil and do other maintenance and add maintenance cost if you don't do your own oil changes.
The only reason to get a Hellcat over a Scat Pack is… WEEEEEEEEEEE💨
I love the Scat Pack better because of the fact it screams 1970s American muscle car. If I was into racing, I would consider a Hellcat or Demon. I just can’t justify dumping that much money into cars I wouldn’t use to their full potential.
Yep it's definitely the best all around car. I still recommend it even though I've got a hellcat now
The way I see it, the scat pack is the best bang for the buck. I got my 2021 for 37k out the door and I am beyond satisfied!!
I'm guessing from your review in short, the Challenger Scat pack is more cheaper to maintain than the Hellcat, Hellcat Redeye 🙂✌ Correct me if I'm wrong. Thank you! Love your content! Drive safely 🙏 Well said & spot on!
The question is a Camaro 2SS is a trim level up and has similar performance of a Scat Pack. I was at a Dodge dealership and a R/T Scat Pack with the 6.4L Hemi was $67,000.00 off the lot. Now I heard people buy premium version of the R/T with the 375 hp 5.7 Hemi and put aftermarket parts on it. I think subtle upgrades like the yellow lower lip, dark window tint, redline after market headlights, new headers on the exhaust along with a cold intake, ECU tuning, you can get 420 hp out of the base R/T.
To get back to Hellcat, any sports car is going to be expensive to insure. The Hellcat wasn't created to be daily driven and people who drive it hard get 10 mpg on fuel economy.
If money is not the issue , which one is more fun in street and better traction 0-60 mph ?
Thats so true!! I have a few people asking if I have a hellcat. Lol no just a scat pack.
So we can go and spec out a 50 anniversary whenever we want or are they limited?
They are a limited production model but they may still have some available to order. I think they just recently hit the market
Nice video - I think one of the selling points for me is that the 6.4 in the Scat Pack has the cylinder deactivation feature and the Hellcat doesn't. Secondly you cant get the adaptive cruise control on a Hellcat, which is a great feature for daily driving. That adds up to significantly better fuel economy, when the skinny pedal ISNT in the floor... Maybe you have 7 reasons now?!!!
Thanks! This will help people who are thinking between the 2!
What if it's manual??
I HAVE HEARD USING THE MULTI DISPLCEMENT FEATURE ON MDS 392 ENGINE SHORTENS THE LIFE OF ENGINE. REMEDY IS TO KEEP IT OUT OF MDS MODE AND SWITCH TO OTHER MODES LIKE PERFORMANCE MODE. HAS THIS BEEN PROVEN??🤔
@@microminiskirt I have a manual and don’t know what eco mode you’re talking about
@@iLLuminatedWithDren Manual transmissions don't have it.
😂 in my country are more cheapest the insurance of the turbocharged than the challenger scat. I saw it today when I was to see the insurance prices (in all options), which are to low in comparation with Giulia QV, which is expensive if buy the full insurance.
Which is why I bought a scat pack; oh I wanted a hellcat, but I’m never going to race so scat pack WB it was...is!
Bruh because I want to buy a hellcat is that crazy wine, that’s all I need 😂
Love your videos! Is scat pack a good daily driving car?
Thank you for the support! I actually made a video about it. "5 reasons you should daily drive a dodge challenger"
It's all about getting a good value and to pay $20k more for the horsepower is considerable and not worth the squeeze IMO in a pure value perspective.
Damn that’s a lot of money,so I’m almost turning 18 and I have an uncle who is passing soon and he is giving me a lot of money idk how much it is but ,my sister said I can buy a new car with it. I really want a muscle car bc they are dope af but idk I’m still a teen and idk if I should buy an expensive car like this or like sumthin else for my first car. I need someone’s opinion or to say what I should do or sum. I prolly sound dumb
I actually beat a hellcat in my 392 on the streets 2 weeks ago.. best feeling in the world
So awesome!
Yeah those hellcats can't put all the power on the ground like the 392 can on the streets.. spinning ain't winning
@@jaymood6607 yep that's so true. It's nice on paper but in real life it's not the same
@Mikeman Jordan well said...😂
I like N/A so 392 All day for me!
Scat Pack Shaker is why you don't need a Hellcat. Who needs 707 horsepower on the street with speed limits.
Free to receive free, to pay... I will use the calculator
Wow somebody who actually speaks the truth
I have a 19 SP Wide Body,, They dont come shaker
Yep the only way you can get the shaker and the widebody is if you go for the 50th anniversary edition. I have a feeling they may start doing it in the future
Which Dodge Challenger would you recommend to buy if it was your first Dodge Challenger
I think the ScatPack is the best trim. Plenty of power but not overly expensive
@@SchwayZ ok
My number one reason for NOT buying either one is they don't come in AWD. I probably would have gone for a higher trim if they offered AWD.
I wish they offered the srt engines with AWD as well
I seen 2019 Hellcat at 60 thousand dollars that to or not ?
Hmm depends on how many miles. A base new hellcat is $60k (although you probably can't find a base one on any lot but still something to consider).
I plan on getting a Skat Pack next year! I’m just deciding on the Challenger or the Charger.
Yep that's a hard decision! I was debating myself but ultimately I don't really use the back seats so I chose the challenger. I also love the retro look but both of them look great!
SchwayZ_ I love the Challenger, but I’m on my second Challenger. Both were only V6s and the one I have now is AWD, so I’m thinking of changing it up a bit and go with the Charger when my lease is up next February.
@@jgboys1 ah that makes sense. Yeah if you've had the challenger for a bit now, might as well switch it up!
get a manual
I miss driving a manual car. Drove one for over 20 years.
Probably will get the automatic transmission. I’ll
The automatic transmissions in these cars are supposed to be great, plus my wife will be driving it too. Don’t want her learning on my brand new Scat Pack. Lol.
I have a 2020 scat pack and live in Nc and 0-60 hit 4.3 sec 9.3 on 0-100

1. Price -> 2. Appearance (2019 and up Challenger Scat Packs now look nearly identical to the Hellcat. You also Can’t get the shaker with the Hellcat).-> 3. Scat Pack has Bigger Hemi Engine (The Scat Pack has a 6.4 L Engine, and the Hellcat has a 6.2 L engine (But has a supercharger). -> 4. Hellcat isn’t much faster (3.6 Vs 4.2 Secs) -> 5. Nobody can tell the difference

Nothing beats the supercharger weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee🤤🤤
Lol! Hey don't get me wrong I love the hellcat. But if you're on the fence, that's what the video is about
SchwayZ_ yeh I see, honestly I totally agree with the video. I was just talking about the sound part.
Scat pack is better for road use , thats what I feel too👍
@@kushagrakumar6850 right on brother! That hellcat sound is intoxicating haha
Owning Super Stock and a 1320, outside the track the hellcat it's not what it cracks up to be. My 1320 is way more fun in the streets. And runs a 11.5 on in the quarter(track) around 12-14 on a regular street. 0-60; 3.8 (track) 4.4 streets. The 1320 is plently power and is no slouch by any means, especially if youre not looking into modding. (Only relatively safe opinion for modding a scat is the Procharger route, professionally installed and it will cost u 10-14k for solid 100whp boost).
So should I get a widebody scat pack?
I think the widebody ScatPacks are a huge bang for the buck. They look amazing and for now they are kinda hard to find. You don't see one every day
SchwayZ_ Thanks I’m Only 16 I’m Just Trying To Find A Nice Car For When I’m Older
I’m at the point where I’m going to buy the challenger scat pack 6.4 but then I hear about this 392 and honestly I can’t tell the difference. Is it the same car? The same horsepower? The research I’ve done has been a little bit confusing.
Good question. Yes it is essentially the exact same car. They have the same engine. The 392 hemi ScatPack Shaker just has the shaker on the engine which sticks out through the hood. It includes some other little changes but most of it is cosmetic. The 6.4L is a 392 it's just one is in liters and other one is cubic inches.
@@SchwayZ oooh okay. Thank you so much. I think the bee logo on the sides look better than the shaker but nonetheless thanks again .
@@demonhunter2034 actually the 392 shaker comes with the bee logo too because it's a ScatPack as well. The shaker is just a package on top of the ScatPack. So it has everything a regular ScatPack has plus the shaker hood
Old video, I know, but I'm going the Scat route. I plan on doing the Sleeper set up twin turbos by Hellion. They swear up and down that it's rock solid and safe to boost at 5lbs, which gives you over 600 wheel HP. This should give me HC-like numbers but better gas mileage in a lighter package...and the ability to row my own gears...all for about 10K less than today's HC prices.
Found my ‘15 Hellcat in 2016 with 134 miles. Only 134! For $65000.
But how about the Redeye ....
There is another answer between the 2. The 1320.
I love hellcats but I want to be able to reasonably daily drive a challenger lol, and the supercharger is cool when going down a drag strip but when Im driving around on the street I'd rather just hear the V8 sound. If I were made of money I'd daily a scat pack and drag race a hellcat
Hellcat really isn't a daily driver unless you really do have that gas money.
Scat is the sweet spot from Mopar to get that power without spending import car prices.
make sense
People think my RT is a hellcat. Or some old dude asks if it has a V8 in it. No one can tell the difference. I got a cam tune and headers and It is good enough for me..... for now. Until I get that hellcat money
Scat pack better daily driver
Buy the scatpack save those 20k for maintenance and repair
That's right you will need that $20,000 to repair and maintain the early valve lifter failures, Hemi tick and other problems you will have with this unreliable vehicle and poorly put together as it falls apart before your eyes.🤑
Unfortunately i live in Germany. So i have to pay for the scatpack the original price of a hellcat.
I have to agree.... You don't buy a Challenger for a supercharger whine. You can mod a cheap japanese VTech if your looking for that whine. V8 rumble ftw 🇺🇲🦅
You can’t use 707hp on the streets, 6.4L is plenty of power and displacement for public roads and to zip around in.
You can. It is legal drive that car on the roads, etc.
@@rubioe3067 he means you will never be able to use the full 707 horse power on the streets. Unless you drag race the average person will never get to use the full power of a challenger
I daily a hellcat. All the comments saying you can’t use that much power or any other excuse for not being able to afford a hellcat it’s just that, an excuse. 3.09 gearing, 305 street slicks. Absolutely no problem putting that power down.
I have a Hellcat now and I can't put the 717hp on the ground. Even in second gear pulls my car loses traction. Actually super annoying. I only have 5500 miles on my tires and never done burnouts.
@@SchwayZ your car comes stock with shitty p zero all weathers. Buy street slicks. It’s not the car. It’s the shoes it’s wearing. Also the demon 3.09 gearing is one of the best options you can get on the car and i tell people if you don’t splurge for any upgrade at least order it with the better gearing. My car hooks and smokes awd cars
@@RunTowardsDanger what street slicks did you get? I heard Nitto 555 are great but curious about what you have?
@@SchwayZ i prefer nitto 555r g2 on 305 width. But honestly all of the brand name ones are good. But get slicks. Not summer tires
@@RunTowardsDanger cool thanks I'll look into it
Nope I’m not paying no 20k more for .5 or 1 sec lol. Scat pack can get me in just as much trouble 😈. Lol. Hell I might even get the rt but probably not cause I want that bee 🐝 haha.
You talk like the scat pack can't have a supercharger as well. Mix that in with having a 6.4 than a 6.2 with some tuning omg. Why waste the money on less performance? You don't buy a car like this without modifications
You can do that but you will have to upgrade the internals of the 6.4. You will be putting some money in so at that point you might as well get a hellcat which may still have the warranty whereas the Scatpacks warranty will be voided
Mustang die hard here... y’all are starting to make me like challengers more 🤨

Dude you mean well but....
Coming from a guy who has the finances only for the scatpack. Don’t hate on us who have the finances to buy either or. Don’t hate. The money comparison makes total sense. I got the Hellcat cuz I wanted too. And I can. 👍💪😎🇱🇷
Also i thought long and asked myself why I was buying a Hellcat. I work everyday and the answer was I wanted to smile from home to work. I didn’t want to regret buying the scatpack and wondering if I was missing something. I bought a v 8 truck and not v 6 cuz I don’t tow anything but I didn’t want limit myself in the future and have regrets. 👍💪😎🇱🇷
The shaker on a scat pack adds 15 horsepower at 45 mph. I was told this by a dodge engineer. it most certainly adds power.
The 392 might be the biggest N/A engine on the market, but it isn't the strongest. the 5.2L voodoo engine from the GT350 has more power and is N/A.
that half a second difference on the 0-60 is HUGE. run a 5.0 vs a 4.5, feels much different.
All that being said. I love my scat pack and i wouldn't trade it for anything. The power level on the street is no different than a hellcat under 60 mph, even with drag radials. A scat pack is much more fun to drive as the hellcat is overpowered and you can't floor it nearly as often.
Shaker adds 0 hp. I work at shop with a dyno and we have had 2 people with the shaker 6.4 hemi get their cars tuned. Stock the first shaker was around 397 whp and the other was around 411. Ive seen stock scats with similar numbers up to 418 at the highest ( non shaker). Just depends with temps and if it was a manual or auto. (SAE tested) . When I put 315s on my hellcat stock, my best 0-60 was 3.1 secs. No scat even the 1320 can come even close to that time without being heavily modified. Its night and day! The hellcat is much more fun to drive in the city, even if youre not always flooring it, knowing that its their along with the intoxicating whine will be worth it. Give it a try, im 100% sure you will agree.
@@gr8cylindergr8t82 you have a fan that can throw air at 45mph at the engine? The SRT engineer that I talked to says different. Also, was your 3.1 second 0-60 on a street or track?
@@vegaswould on the street with different tires thats it. Dont get fooled by everything you read, the shaker doesnt do shit. Throw a stock hellcat airbox on the 6.4 and you will make better gains.
Man get the Hellcat out of here. You want a Hellcat but can’t afford it right now....get your finances in order and then come back when you can afford one... Because nobody wants a Scat Pack over a hellcat trust me I’ve owned both..2016 Scatpack Charger - 2018 Hellcat challenger.....And last but not least after owning both the power that the Hellcat has doesn’t feel that much different from a Scat Pack. Until you start to change the Pulleys and tune the engine more....
You just proved my point that the power is not that much different between a ScatPack and a hellcat. Of course you can throw money into any car and make it quicker but as stock cars you won't notice a big difference until you hit the drag strip. 20k premium sometimes isn't worth it.
Well dude, from what I have read and seen, your opinion is one against many others that disagree with you here. Furthermore, the toy models that you bought of those cars before at Walmart don't count...
hey have you changed your mind yet? ;)
Lol actually no... Not yet. I'll talk about it in a different video. The price is a big selling point of the ScatPack
And there you have it folks: Dodge Challenger/Charger owners primarily care about what other people think about them and their cars, and are okay with faking the trim.
You gathered that from the video?😂
