In the beginning Kamla Dad has voiced against social restrains, parda system n all then in late life she has accepted Muslim religion which supports the parda system ; isn't it contradictory to her beliefs which she had expressed through her work?
When I was studying at Tamil Nadu Central University I was fortunate enough to attend a lecture given by this esteemed professor. In this lecture uploaded here, this illustrious professor paints purdha as a "generic term" for all forms of oppression against women. But it is clear from an interview with Asianet News that the famous English poet from Kerala, Kamala Suraya, wholeheartedly embraced "purdha". In this interview, she says that even before she converted to Islam, she wore purdha as a "shield" against any potential threat to her body.
So a poet who was vocal about women freedom, women expression, sexual freedom converted to Islam in thr 90s that too in an India society. Isn't this sooooo ironic for some reason? Stop praising her for all points. What she says and does are comeplety different things. Much like the pseudo liberals of India today. Came here for knowledge but ended up laughing.
