That ending is heartbreaking. The poor spent the wealthy family's money sweetly-- gave them trips and schooling. The wealthy family redecorated THEIR home for them and donated to charity. Rediculous. That family actually needed that money.

It only makes sense if you have so much cash to spend, you can afford to give it away while still having plenty to take care of your needs. That was not the situation with that family. The family, not the community, needs it. And what's the benefit of improving a community if you have no more money to spend in the community? No. Improve the family first, and the community will benefit. The blonde lady has no concept of poverty, probably because she's never had to experience it, which is good. I wonder if when this happens, the makers o the show really stick with it and won't give the money to the family? i know in the “god warrior” first episode after she tore up the money/letter she said in the 2nd episode that she ended up receiving and accepting the money so i’m sure there’s some kind of exceptions.
Update on the Hawkins family: Maurice and Marla are not together. Maurice has since remarried and has a daughter. Marla has lost weight and is single and is looking beautiful. The kids look like they have their own families.

I think some people misconstrue how they should be doing that because they themselves don't know how else to do it. You can absolutely make your kids hard/tough against the world/life troubles and challenges but also show personal love and affection. Our kids don't put up with any BS but they know they are loved and know how to love. This dad is just going wayyyyy overboard. He really could benefit from some one on one therapy to dig into where /why he had picked up this behavior. I'm sure it's primarily due to upbringing himself and I get it, I had half my family never show affection too. But that doesn't mean you have to keep the cycle going with your own kids. I can tell he's trying to do better than how he was raised because he is there raising his kids. He took one more step in the right direction. Definitely nowhere near where it needs to be, but he definitely moved in a positive direction. I think he needs to be shown the good positive changes he has made first then teach the ways he can move forward even more. I know it sounds silly since he's a grown man but age doesn't dictate what you know nor does it teach you skills you don't have or help with things that make you uncomfortable. I think the dad did love hugging his kids. It was just unnatural to him. I loved the one hug a day rule. I hope they did it because that could definitely help desensitize him so that it becomes normal as it should 💙

This is an incredibly real reminder that the wealthy have absolutely no idea what people who have less than them actually need. I was initially really mad too when I was hearing the letter, but then I realized- she has no idea what it's like to need money for day to day, basic necessities. The wealthy truly think that donating to charities and political groups are going to help, or a renovated home. People who are struggling are grateful to even BE in a home, and getting their monthly bills paid makes room for OTHER things, like healing from past hurt. there is no doubt there is a disconnect in general. However, there are many people who have a lot that got there because they know what their needs plus save/invest. I'm devastated to see how the Hawkins kids disassociate so often when things get hard it's like they have to do that alot. That shows they have had serious trauma and have learned to tune out after so many painful experiences. I hope they were strong enough to break the abusive cycle they grew up in.

Here’s an update on Family. Henrietta and Marco divorced and Henrietta remarried and have 2 more kids. Marco is a chef that build his restaurant from ground up and still dabble in modeling. One boy is in US Army the other is a professional chef.
Thanks for the update; sadly her future will be alone in the corner of a nursing home sitting in a wheelchair as all the kids will resent her after watching this show!.

She, a woman who’s husband like pays a large portion of her lavish lifestyle, is using their money to redecorate their home according to her tastes and budget. Did you not see the snide comments she made in the beginning about the way other people decorated their homes. Marla likely earns a very modest income as a medical biller (administrative job) and has 3 kids to support. Redecorating her home and going to the spa (and the other frivolous things she chose) is not a priority. Just look at the way Marla allocated their winnings: $40K included $25K for culinary school for her husband and $15K for savings…. That tells you exactly how Marla would have hoped her family’s winnings would have been put to good use!
Guess I'll join the comments about the money. Henrietta spent the week with them. She knew they were in no way well off. I don't buy that she's clueless. I feel like she had an agenda and was going to follow it with no regard to anyone's needs or feelings. That's why Marco is modeling because she has no compassion or empathy for others. She wants what she wants. Ppl say money can't buy happiness and while that's true don't think it doesn't have a huge effect on ppls lives. By distributing the money as she did Henrietta canceled out so much good that happened that week. You can't say you adore the sons and not give them a single cent. Dee Rockman Oh no...just started and now I already dislike Henrietta. I have seen this one before but I have watched so many of these I forget who does what. I do recall the hug Henrietta helped happen so even if she messed up the money big time I think the family is better off for her visit. The dad is going to be ever better. I’m happy for that family. I think a huge thing is Henrietta just has no clue. She has lived rich for so long she has no concept of the typical family. I do think money can buy happiness in certain cases. Having money to feed your kids makes parents happy. When my mom gave me money to go to a specialist and paid for meds I was able to regain the ability to walk and it never would have happened without money. She paid for my dog to have surgery so he could see again and wouldn’t be in pain. That money definitely bought happiness. And who can forget the best part... if your job is beyond awful you can tell your boss to shove it! I guess money buys options that can result in happiness.

As far as all the situations you named where money "bought" happiness I don't think that's actual happiness. Again it's superficial. And looking at those situations most parents work for money to feed their children so isn't it the parents not the money? And if you see a specialist most ppl are thankful for the specialist not the money. I don't believe money can EVER buy true happiness. As I said yes it's very helpful and can certainly make life easier in many instances but never gives true happiness. I was terrified for those boys at first. I was upset that she didn’t read the room and kept pushing. I recognize the fear in those boys faces because they were the same faces I made around my mother. The same way I stared at the floor as if it was the only form of comfort I had in that moment. The same way I avoided the undeserved shame by not lifting my eyes. They knew what would happen when the cameras stopped rolling. I cried with the daughter. I cried even harder when their father hugged them and kept it going a moment longer. And at the smiles all around. I wept when he, too, became a boy again, and asked Henrietta to ask HIS father too hug him also. I wept even harder when the grandfather hugged his son and his eyes lit up and his inner child finally got what he forever needed. Neglect and abuse breeds neglect and abuse. She may not have gone about it in the best way, but that scene alone broke milestones for that family. This episode was different. In both the worst and the best ways.

The best episode of Trading Spouses I've watched to date. It's really great that Marco got his dream of being a chef as well. The 2 ladies impacted each other's homes in very positive way. Awesome!

I guess I'm like everyone else. I was very touched by this episode and got tears more than once until the money distribution came. I'm totally so broke down right now, with tear after tear, rolling down my face, this was so raw and so real. The fact that a grown man didn't know how to hug, and even after all those years passed. He still wanted a hug from his own dad. This was the most emotional episode I've ever seen on this show. This is the second time, I've watched this and I still got pissed all over again.. How that lady could screw them over like that, after getting them to open up and address their feelings. She was so beyond wrong for that crap, damn dummy!!!

God, I love both these families. This was such an emotional episode! Such a powerful episode ! The biggest reward the low income family was affection and compassion. The fact the father wanted a hug from his father had me in tears cause that’s all he ever wanted and his kids wanted the exact same thing from him. The new wife was truly a blessing for that family although she could’ve done better with the money but what she was able to do for that family in such a short time was very powerful!😭😭😭😭😭😭
Yes, Henrietta messed up with the money, but what she did for the family was more important. She had the balls to stand up to Maurice when no one in that family (including Marla) said anything for YEARS. Even the kids said they wished that their mom could stand up to Maurice.
I feel really sad for the Harlem mom. Her husband is so mean and ungrateful for her. She is a beautiful sweet women and I feel she deserves so much better. I hope they are now in a better position in life and are happy❤️

Surah Online - It is the definition of money mindset. They did very very similar things with the money at the start which seemed great that they thought so similarly. However the different reactions show how different the families are. The rich mom loves leisure and the other mom wants to stretch every penny. Blondie thought their house was beneath her and ugly from the start. She was so detailed on how they had to spend the money because she thought they had bad taste and was trying to help. 🤦🏻♀️ She had very specific numbers for each thing which leads me to believe she did some research. I do think she is very intelligent. I also think she has spent too much time with money to be able to understand a life with less. It isn’t that she is dumb it is that she has become entitled. The lingerie for the daughter while not mentioning the boys seems to indicate she things the daughter should be sexual so she can find a husband.
I get that she’s upset about the kids education however, paying off the credit card debt and fixing up on he family home are good financially responsible things to do. Now she did go too far telling them what color paint ect because that is their home not hers. Maybe she was thinking they could up the value of the home with a remodel? The trip to Rome is special. Step out into the world and see things beyond what you see everyday. I worked overtime to send my daughter to France and Spain her senior year and to this day (she’s 30 now), she still tells me how amazing it was. She’s since been to Rome, Berlin, hiking in Turkey, The UK, Amsterdam... I’m also think the spa days with her daughter were amazing. She works so hard that maybe some pampering with her daughter will be a nice change. I think once she gets past the arrogance of telling her what color and paint brand fir her home remodel is, she’ll be just fine. She’s a sweet lady.

I think this was probably the best and most wholesome wife swap. They both helped improve each other’s family. I think Henrietta’s money allocation was done with good intentions. I didn’t think it was too bad but the donation to the mayor and specifying the renovations design was messed up. She should have just put X amount for home renovations (let the family choose how to renovate). The donation was definitely crazy. Who the hell donates to a mayor, especially in a failing city, and especially if you are living below the means. Also the $400 to lingerie for the daughter too. She should have just said $400 to buy clothes.

I actually dont think the distribution was that bad. Money to pay debt, money for a new car and a new experience can go along way. You can have alot of money but it means nothing if your credit is low and you’re in debt. The donation part was out of pocket though. I think some people misconstrue how they should be doing that because they themselves don't know how else to do it. You can absolutely make your kids hard/tough against the world/life troubles and challenges but also show personal love and affection. Our kids don't put up with any BS but they know they are loved and know how to love. This dad is just going wayyyyy overboard. He really could benefit from some one on one therapy to dig into where /why he had picked up this behavior. I'm sure it's primarily due to upbringing himself and I get it, I had half my family never show affection too. But that doesn't mean you have to keep the cycle going with your own kids. I can tell he's trying to do better than how he was raised because he is there raising his kids. He took one more step in the right direction. Definitely nowhere near where it needs to be, but he definitely moved in a positive direction. I think he needs to be shown the good positive changes he has made first then teach the ways he can move forward even more. I know it sounds silly since he's a grown man but age doesn't dictate what you know nor does it teach you skills you don't have or help with things that make you uncomfortable. I think the dad did love hugging his kids. It was just unnatural to him. I loved the one hug a day rule. I hope they did it because that could definitely help desensitize him so that it becomes normal as it should 💙

This is an incredibly real reminder that the wealthy have absolutely no idea what people who have less than them actually need. I was initially really mad too when I was hearing the letter, but then I realized- she has no idea what it's like to need money for day to day, basic necessities. The wealthy truly think that donating to charities and political groups are going to help, or a renovated home. People who are struggling are grateful to even BE in a home, and getting their monthly bills paid makes room for OTHER things, like healing from past hurt. I wish the show had given the wives an opportunity to speak to one another after that so the blonde could have been given more perspective. Horribly misguided, but I think her heart meant well. Here’s an update on Family. Henrietta and Marco divorced and Henrietta remarried and have 2 more kids. Marco is a chef that build his restaurant from ground up and still dabble in modeling. One boy is in US Army the other is a professional chef.
Thanks for the update; sadly her future will be alone in the corner of a nursing home sitting in a wheelchair as all the kids will resent her after watching this show!.

Do you seriously not see that it she is not “giving them” a free makeover. She, a woman who’s husband like pays a large portion of her lavish lifestyle, is using their money to redecorate their home according to her tastes and budget. It is also an underhanded way of criticizing them for having a home that doesn’t live up to her standards. Did you not see the snide comments she made in the beginning about the way other people decorated their homes.
Marla likely earns a very modest income as a medical biller (administrative job) and has 3 kids to support. Redecorating her home and going to the spa (and the other frivolous things she chose) is not a priority. Just look at the way Marla allocated their winnings: $40K included $25K for culinary school for her husband and $15K for savings…. That tells you exactly how Marla would have hoped her family’s winnings would have been put to good use!
Guess I'll join the comments about the money. Henrietta spent the week with them. She knew they were in no way well off. I don't buy that she's clueless. I feel like she had an agenda and was going to follow it with no regard to anyone's needs or feelings. That's why Marco is modeling because she has no compassion or empathy for others. She wants what she wants.
Ppl say money can't buy happiness and while that's true don't think it doesn't have a huge effect on ppls lives. By distributing the money as she did Henrietta canceled out so much good that happened that week. You can't say you adore the sons and not give them a single cent. And who gives someone's daughter who is still living at home $400 for lingerie? That's a bit creepy IMO. And it's one thing to give money for home or renovations but you don't tell someone exactly how to do it. That is their home and they have no desire for it to be a Henrietta's home knockoff. Those of you saying Marla is selfish to not want the trip to Rome need to be a little more understanding that some ppl don't want to leave the states. I do recall the hug Henrietta helped happen so even if she messed up the money big time I think the family is better off for her visit. The dad is going to be ever better. I’m happy for that family. I think a huge thing is Henrietta just has no clue. She has lived rich for so long she has no concept of the typical family.
I do think money can buy happiness in certain cases. Having money to feed your kids makes parents happy. When my mom gave me money to go to a specialist and paid for meds I was able to regain the ability to walk and it never would have happened without money. She paid for my dog to have surgery so he could see again and wouldn’t be in pain. That money definitely bought happiness. And who can forget the best part... if your job is beyond awful you can tell your boss to shove it! I guess money buys options that can result in happiness.

I really cannot agree that the family is better off for the visit. Yes they got all the warm fuzzies now when it was new but how long do you think that actually lasted when it was back to reality? That little bit of interaction is not enough to perm change someone. Sorry but I truly believe that. Kinda like when you first get married - there's a reason the call it the "honeymoon phase". You're so considerate of one another and can't get enough of eachother and some ppl are a bit shy to be seen first thing in the morning or to use the bathroom around them. As far as all the situations you named where money "bought" happiness I don't think that's actual happiness. Again it's superficial. And looking at those situations most parents work for money to feed their children so isn't it the parents not the money? And if you see a specialist most ppl are thankful for the specialist not the money. I don't believe money can EVER buy true happiness. As I said yes it's very helpful and can certainly make life easier in many instances but never gives true happiness. Have you ever noticed that yes "rich people" have everything they could ask for but the majority of them also have bigger problems to go with those big bucks!!
One last thing -if your job is truly THAT awful there are other ways out that don't have anything to do with money. It just requires brain power to figure it out!!

I was terrified for those boys at first. I was upset that she didn’t read the room and kept pushing. I recognize the fear in those boys faces because they were the same faces I made around my mother. The same way I stared at the floor as if it was the only form of comfort I had in that moment. The same way I avoided the undeserved shame by not lifting my eyes. They knew what would happen when the cameras stopped rolling. I cried with the daughter.
I cried even harder when their father hugged them and kept it going a moment longer. And at the smiles all around.
I wept when he, too, became a boy again, and asked Henrietta to ask HIS father too hug him also.
I wept even harder when the grandfather hugged his son and his eyes lit up and his inner child finally got what he forever needed.

I guess I'm like everyone else. I was very touched by this episode and got tears more than once until the money distribution came. I was shocked by what Henrietta did, it showed such a lack of understanding and empathy, there was no excuse in it. I think she showed her underlying feelings of superiority and it was snobbery at its worse. I felt ashamed of her especially since Marla's distribution showed intelligence and deep thought. It's too bad, I wish there was a way to undo it.

I'm totally so broke down right now, with tear after tear, rolling down my face, this was so raw and so real. The fact that a grown man didn't know how to hug, and even after all those years passed. God, I love both these families. This was such an emotional episode! Like at first I was so irritated with the husbands but when Mr. Hawkins said he wanted her to have his father hug him too, I lost it! Who would have thought that little boy who needed his father was still in there. However the different reactions show how different the families are. The rich mom loves leisure and the other mom wants to stretch every penny. Blondie thought their house was beneath her and ugly from the start. She was so detailed on how they had to spend the money because she thought they had bad taste and was trying to help. 🤦🏻♀️ She had very specific numbers for each thing which leads me to believe she did some research. I do think she is very intelligent. I also think she has spent too much time with money to be able to understand a life with less. It isn’t that she is dumb it is that she has become entitled. She works so hard that maybe some pampering with her daughter will be a nice change. I think this was probably the best and most wholesome wife swap. They both helped improve each other’s family. I think Henrietta’s money allocation was done with good intentions. I didn’t think it was too bad but the donation to the mayor and specifying the renovations design was messed up. She should have just put X amount for home renovations (let the family choose how to renovate). The donation was definitely crazy. Who the hell donates to a mayor, especially in a failing city, and especially if you are living below the means. Also the $400 to lingerie for the daughter too. She should have just said $400 to buy clothes.
Henrietta’s choices for that family’s money were absolutely disgusting. Redecorating their house in her taste? A goddam political donation?? No wonder Marla lost her shit. They could have put that $50k to such good use. I felt so much rage on their behalf 😖

The new wives that are making the list on how to spend the money is just for production and the show. I have had the privilege of meeting a couple of the wives here on RUclips where they were talking to us underneath their own videos and we were asking a lot of questions about how the show was ran. Like about how much of it was real, how much of it was staged, those questions about the checks, etc. So I personally found out directly from the wives from some of these episodes. So rest assured 😉 the families will be allowed to spend the money the way they prefer.

I actually dont think the distribution was that bad. Money to pay debt, money for a new car and a new experience can go along way. You can have alot of money but it means nothing if your credit is low and you’re in debt.

On one of the other episodes, one of the "contestants" responded in the comments that the show doesn't make the family use the money the way the "other" mommy spent it. They get a cheque mailed to them a few months after the show to do with it what they will.
