I loved this song when I was 15 , it just kicks the door through with its raw power , still lovin' it at 52.
Raw power 💪
Yeah, bet Putin lovin it now as he kicks through Ukraine's doors!
Ditto that. I loved it when I first heard it, and it remains my all-time favorite track to this day.
Really????? O'tool drumming???
@@weneedsaving515 they swapped for a laugh. Obviously not live
You can see why it stayed at #1 for 9 weeks in the UK (1984). Brilliant and FGTH were visionaries. Scaringly, the song's relevance remains today.
Agreed completely.
That's why they've changed the lyrics
Best ever TOTP performance by any band
Close, but it’s actually Slade doing “Come On Feel The Noize” on the 1973 Christmas TOTP.
(I had to “correct” the spelling to “Come”, otherwise YT deleted this comment. Ridiculous.)
@@Bartholomew_Musgrave Not for me, although Slade were great to watch👍
You know, one of the best things about being in my 50's now is that I lived my teenage years in the 80's..........Priceless and I wouldn't change them for the world!"
"We're living in a land where sex and horror are the new gods" what a pure belter of a lyric!
Same year as "Threads". Scary
I watched pretty much all the TOTP repeats from 1980-1986, and this is easily the best performance
Ripping up The S*n newspaper is class. Who would of thought 5 yrs before the slur on the city of Liverpool Hollie knew what a scumbag paper it was then. You are a beautiful man Hollie.
By the way who remembers those Frankie Says Relax t shits. What a time that was for music.
Yep, I remember and had one of the T-shirts. Do you remember the parody T-shirts a few years later with a picture of comedian Frankie Howerd on the front?
Holly ripped up that paper as it's journalists were trying to get his parents to sell stories about him
Good points there indeed. And oh yes the T Shirts! You can get them online now. I am getting a t shirt to mark 40th anniversary next year😊 iconic brilliance which will be loved forever❤
What a performance 10/10 from me.
Love the way Holly rips the sun up at the start. 😆👌
Yes because they kept writing crap stories about him.
Something that all scousers have been doing ever since.....visionary
Good on him, it's a disgusting rag
Don't blame him
Pre Hillsborough too.
Spectacular performance! 🤩
This was their 4th appearance on the show, so they decided to mix up the band so played different instruments (marc and ped swapped bass and drums) and frankie decided to wander around the crowd which at that time was very rare You can see the audience and camera crew caught out. The BBC were probably annoyed. An epic song from that glorious music year 1984. The Sun newspaper wrote crap stories about him so he ripped it up at the start.
Marc on bass was 👍
Agree nothing beats this iconic era of brilliant songs such as this.
The bass just makes it ace 👌
Well spotted mate.
@@richard7645 the bass was a fairlight
Remember the 80s forever
Best decade for music, especially 1984! 🎶
Best decade ever!
@@cherylb5680 Agree 1984 was The Iconic year of unforgettable music.
Paul Rutherford sure had the moves 🕺
Yeah right
Umm the least talented member of the band, just minced around like a cross between Basil Fawlty and Freddie Mercury.
Doing simple backing vocals, he certainly did very well out of his gay following..
Unfortunately for them it was all about the production, hence why thier live shows were pretty much like top of the pops, occasionally signing along to a backing track or miming along..
They had the song writing talent and were musicians but couldn't replicate it live
@@adrinathegreat3095 He's gay?! 😁
@@davidrobertson5284 🙄🙄
FGTH were a seminal band. Amid a sea of new romantic ripples they were a tsunami of political and sexual expression that pulled no punches. The production on this track and the entire album was next level. I don't think they get enough recognition.
Anyone agree that they were mega important in the evolution of 'pop' music?
100%
I was listening to all sorts of music then. Frankie were THE eighties band
totally as they made sexuality more open and got up the noses of the likes of Mike Read .... in an era of Thatcherism they opened up younger people's eyes to the possibilities of fun ....
Very much!! Trevor Horn elevated their sound and really excelled them
Trevor Horn was the creative force, through the use of the new recording & sequencing technology at the time, bringing everything together.
@@ethanoreilly2002 He's a bit of an ol genius is Trevor.
What a group, the kids of today just wouldn't get how big these guys were and the whole ' Frankie says ' era ! ❤
I fancied Holly Johnson sooooooooooooooo much! He looked absolutely GORGEOUS in this performance! I remember videoing every FGTH appearance off the TV and watching over and over again! Such good times!
Adult me still has a crush! Beautiful man 😍🤤
He used to live near my sister..
Full of energy this song
This is the song of 2022.
Greatest ever TOTP performance
Close, but it’s actually Slade doing “Cum On Feel The Noize” on the 1973 Christmas TOTP.
Just as amazing at 62 as it was at 24!
The baseline sends shivers down your spine
Seminal TOTP performance. I remember watching as a 13yo. And Holly Johnson ripping up The Sun on the Beeb. I dont think News International were too pleased!
I'm sure they weren't pleased, but Holly looked so cool and sexy when he did it.
Week 9 o' 9 @ #1 this TOTP performance is one of the GOAT ... 😎😎😎
Tell the world you are winning!
Brilliant upload. Best picture and sound quality by far. One of THE iconic songs of the eighties, way ahead of it`s time.
Absolutely agree. This is easily among the ten most important pieces of music in the eighties.
Right on time, after house music began
The era, the music, words can not express the brilliance.
So ahead of its time too, still sounds modern today and will in another 40 years!
This is the kind of song that makes you wanna be a bass player. Relax too.
As true today as it was then. Unfortunately.
still an astonishing tune!!!!
I was 14 when they released this, the band is from my home town. So proud when they were number 1 for 10 weeks. Every time they were on totp they were messing about. In this one Pete Gill the drummer playing the bass while the bassist Mark O'Toole is playing the drums. That's why Gill is laughing his head off throughout. They changed music in the mid 80s, such a huge band. This song is so relevant now.
Great sound.
..hats off to you 👍
Sold 15 milion copies
Grandissimiiiiiiiii
And FGTH got f**k all from it. Read Nasher Says Relax 👍
When The Wind Blows (1986)
I remember watching this when it was first broadcast…. I was 15
I was 16. amazing years.
Such a great voice. ...band.
This song has so much underground power ..
I remember who the two tribes were.....
With what is good on in the World atm. A Frankie at Glastonbury would be extremely well received.
Great sound.
..hats off to you 👍
Sold 15 milion copies
0:35 Frankie steps on Lego Bricks
this has gotta be one of the best toto performances
Toto?!
👍👍This song reminds me of the Eighties
The whole band was cooking but the bass riff was out of this world. Much respect for Trevor Horn ... what a production. TV program "Bands Reunited" tried to get them together again but Holly was having none of it. Shame.
When two tribes go to war
A point is all that you can score

Cowboy number one
A born-again poor man's son

One of the most iconic bass lines ever.👍

I LOVE 80s ❤ In 2021 sussesfull music forever...🤗🎵🎧🎼🎙🎹♩🎸🎶🇬🇧
Still lovin this track (one of their best) at age 66...
Agreed with many here. Easily the best audio version and video of this seminal song by far. Is it just me, or is the blond haired lass a show stealer in this video?
quite possibly the best if not the most imfamous TOTPS miming brilliance i've ever had the pleasure to witness at the time. even a 13 yr old knew what theyd done but perhaps not why at the time. i must drag you towards brian nash's quite brilliant and no holes barred autobiography i've just read. whilst not the best written, it's certainly for any even a causal fan, a lot of fun. pls read it.
Iconic❤ 40 years on still brilliant.
Holly Johnson......what a great frontman
Ped the drummer on lead guitar, Nash the guitarist on bass and Mark the bass guitarist on drums.
Good old Peter Gill 🎶 This songs like a fine wine, Gets better with age, Always listen to this on my way to work 🤣
Holly is such a natural showman. I always picture him as an old time Carnival Barker, working the crowd, thinking they're a bunch of suckers.
War eine geile Zeit!!! 🤗🤗🤗
Der zeit ist hier nach
Working for the black gas. Hits home today as much as then.
I was always amused by the tall guy with the moustache, his main contribution seems to have been just dancing around on the stage. Nice work if you can get it! Reminds me of a scene from the Royle family when Jim is teasing his son about his new band, because one of them doesn't play anything, and just dances about. "You don't want him there just dancing about do ya?" And his son answers "Not really, but we have to... it's his Amps what we're using."
Think he said "arsing about on stage" but I may be wrong :)
Paul Rutherford. Bez used to do the same in the Happy Mondays
I love this. See how it cuts away just in time as HJ is tearing up a copy of The Scum. Still Britain's favourite paper, don't you know? I mean, we wouldn't wish to offend our paymaster general, Murdoch. Now would we?😅
80s music is so fucking cool, I love it
TUNE ...OMG
all my friends from the 80s are in this audience
so great
Time for a re-release......
Bellissima canzone di altissimo livello
sensational then, sensational now.
Mark on drums and Ped on bass 😜
I saw Nasher on Bass here 😉
For a live performance, and as a history buff I see some symbolism not only in the fact that the American flag half of the stage is more predominantly featured but at the 3:10 mark the lighting is more dominant to that side. I wasn't around for that era of the world but watching and old video like this it's like they knew who was gonna come out on top in the cold war. Now if only we can make the second chapter of it
Liverpool lads ripping up the Sun, visionaries 😊
Great sound.
..hats off to you 👍
13 July 2022 … here we again… Boris gone and choose who is next
Italy’s just resigned
Grandissimiiiiiiiii
Unmatchable
Excellent job, thanks so much for doing this
I would have been nearly 7 years old when this was out
Watched this as a kid......awesome, so cool 😎
Unici, straordinari
" tell the world that you're winning, love and life...love and life......listen to the voice saying follow me...." This has been removed from the current playing of the song. Why??!!
So good!!
Trevor Horn
Absolute musical genius!
💥Epic performance on TOTP 💥
Mark is a bass God!
Omg some of them young girls ❤❤❤
They're nearly 60 now. 😪
The bassist is exceptional
I wonder if any other bands shuffled around the musicians in that era just for a laugh 😆
The strangers did it a few years previously 👍
Wave 103 Vice City
Love it❤❤❤
fucking best song ever
Great bass line
Tune....much better than Relax
I understand the band member instrument switch, but what was the robot wars stuff?
Blue and Red Unity Now, no mega bs
Mark on drums and Ped on bass 😜
Robot wars from Phoenix Nights 😂😂
Nah, that was Nasher on Bass 😉
ooohh yyeeeeeahh
It´s weird see to Peter Gill play guitar and Mark O´toole in drums ..... LOL ..... What else, it´s nice
The blonde is fantastic x
Album cover banned! I had the t-shirt! Two tribes the best song in the 80s.
"I'm working for the black cat" The Rockerfellas and the Rothchilds.
The origins of lbgtq... Joy of joy, the 80s has a lot to answer for.
relevant now
You know, after watching "Bohemian Rhapsody" and learning that everything was just canned music, watching TOTP will never be the same again
Meer van dat ..... The Eighties please ......
