Heard this song at the supermarket the other day. I'd heard it before, many times growing up, but was racking my brain trying to remember who sung it and what the name of the song was. It FINALLY came to me and so has this lesson. I think it'll be a bit of a challenge for me, but life's no fun without a good challenge! Beautiful picking song
Ditto. Used to hear it before I played guitar, then heard it again recently and thought, "that'd be great to play". What excellent timing for this tute. Looking forward to it. Will pay for the TAB, which makes things straightforward but also helps Chris for his time. Thanks.
Thanks very much Chris. A very good quality lesson. and as I've just discovered, so are the rest of your lessons! You're very generous and skilled. cheers
I really wish someone would show how to play what Lindsey plays live. I think I’m almost figuring it out by myself but it’s really giving me a go of it
As Marc says below, Shut Up and Play has a tutorial on the "solo" Lindsey Buckingham plays in the live version. If you want a lesson on the entire live version, Jerry's Guitar Bar has a tutorial on that version. Only the intro section is free on RUclips. The entire lesson costs $5 or $6 dollars on his web site. But IMO, other than the solo, this version from the original recording is better.
Do you know what that first barred chord is? He never mentioned what chords he's actually playing, and there's always an easier way for those chords lol @@marcstreiff6067
wow. beautiful tune. I am not at this level of competence yet. Fingers not fully cooperating especially on shapes like some of these. This lesson will be inspiration enough to keep me going until i can play this one, too. thanks, Chris.
Could you teach that one third section that he does in live performances where it's just super clear and nice singular notes on top of the bass playing? Always loved that part! It's so chill and a perfect little instrumental to break up the monotony of plain ol' Travis picking, even though it's still Travis picking technically lol, idk, I'm ridiculous, thanks for everything anywho! Awesome to have an updated lesson with chapters and everything for this one!
@@SixStringFingerpicking That'd be awesome! Wouldn't even mind if you simply left it unlisted and slapped it up onto the already existing page on your website if that's even a thing you can do lol, not sure how websites work honestly! Either way I gotta be learning something from ya, been too long since I've learnt anything new on the steel string that isn't just a rhythm part! All my fingerstyle's been going into the classical lately and that's just no good!
at 2:48 you say you are playing strings 1 and 4 yet you are picking 2 and 4. 2 and 4 makes sense that is why i looked carefully. the pattern should be: 5th-----1st-----2nd and 4th-------3rd
@@SixStringFingerpicking it might be a tall order but could you do a tutorial on concerning hobbits from the LOTR soundtrack? Thanks for the great tutorials again
Been waiting for this one! Also Chris, can you do Thirteen by Big Star? There isn't one easy to follow tutorial for it. Your lessons are great, and thanks for all you do!
Any recommendations on how to get your fingers to stretch for these chords. My fourth finger wants to mute the third string on the first chord position. Great tutorial
Hi Charles, the only thing I can suggest is to drop your thumb down on the back of the neck. This allows your fingers/hand to open up. Also try to relax your hand as much as you can
You can get out of playing the bar in front of everything by just tuning your 6th string down to c and your 5th string to G. This becomes much easier to play then
really struggling with 3rd finger in D string muting the G string with that opening shape, let alone moving the ring and little finger over to the next fret for the b and d pluck. Again, the 3rd finger is muting the G string on this even worse. Its my first level 4 song. Ive completed 60% of the intermediate course (ive got the full package). Am i expecting too much to be able to do this yet? Love the course its ace, any more songs by nick drake greatly appreciated!! I know i will be almost there when i can play this and Angeles which is another fave!!!

@wesplybon9510 same. 1.5 years in. Learning lead section now
This is a fantastic tutorial but beyond my present abilities. Will be sure to come back to it! Thank you!
Thanks a lot Glori
Just nice with Drop D tuning and very good lesson ! 👍Thanks from France
At around the 2:50 mark you say to use strings 1 and 4 but it looks like you pick 2 and 4. Am I seeing things or could you clarify this for me?

Wonderful lesson! Indeed challenging for a novice! But I am getting there!

Look up Shut Up & Play also on You Tube, he shows the single line solo accompaniment

Thanks Eric, can't make any promises but thanks for the request
In the bar beginning @ 5.00, to avoid a long stretch to play the 5th fret on the D ( 4th ) string, play the open G string. Simplifies it a lot.
Awesome video! We need The Chain too!
Thanks, I'm sure I'll do The Chain at some point

Strange. Whenever I tune my guitar to
concert or standard tuning I have to put my capo on the 5th fret to get the right pitch?

Thanks, it's an 814ce

I'm confused. My official tab says capo behind 6th fret. Tuning C,G,D,G,B,E
Hey Chris! I have problems with the drop d tuning, my app seems to be confused as well, how do you do it with the capo on?
Hey Victor, I always tune without the capo on. Give that a go

I'm glad you said it's not easy - I thought it was just me lol
Definitely not easy!
Great lesson! What model is that guitar? Looks beautiful
Cheers, it's a Taylor 814
@5.32 I think it's 1 and 4, not 2 and 4, then 2
I can play this, but i struggle to find a practice method to get it up to speed ?
Slow and steady, accuracy over speed. Loop it for hours and eventually the speed arrives. It just takes time, patience and practice.
I knew i was screwed when after an hour of playing Chris says, “and thats the first bar….” 😅😅😅

👍🏼👍🏼great stuff as always! Can you do a cover of Mariah Carey’’s “Always Be My Baby”?
Cheers, thanks for the request. can't make any promises but appreciated
Final step: Sing the words while playing this 😳🤪
80% of my problem with guitar is just not having the finger strength for chords
Practice practice practice. Rest when you’re tired. Sleep. Practice again. It won’t take too long 👍
Why don't you just move the capo up two frets so you don't have to bar with your index finger?
The drop d on string 6 will be a full not higher again
You'll lose the lower notes
That bar on two and finders on 5 just feels impossible
👍👍👍👍
Oh sorry, then the capo goes up to the 6th fret.
My fingers hurt
i just cant get it right…😭😭
it’s a case of a lot of repetition, you can do it
