- May god have mercy on our souls..........We have finally reached the worst video game to film adaptation ever made. #SilentHill Revelation is world renowned for being terrible, but just how bad is it? Well........let's find out.
Игры
The only thing this movie did well was adapting Heather's video game outfit to real life in a way that still pays homage to the original but looks realistic for a teenage girl to wear
Yeah, I can agree with that
This movie completely breaks SH lore, Heather doesnt say "its bread" even once.
-"Goosebumps level of set design."
Don't you tarnish the good word of Goosebumps like that.
Ha!
Jesus dude you remember that one episode in the school pool? Freaked me the fuck out more than any modern horror movie
@@turkish8969 Pretty sure that was Are You Afraid of the Dark, but still.
"Never ever watch Silent Hill Revelation"
Well shit, kinda late now
Yea, about 7 years too late for me too...
Lol years too late
i remember laughing realy hard when piramid head fought the power ranger villan for no reason at all.
Haha you mean the Pokémon battle

"We have finally reached the worst video game to film adaptation ever made."
Uwe Boll wants to have a word with you.
He did that shit on purpose make a film arguably bad and get paid but couldn't handle criticism and wanted to fight people over it.
That lovable nazi gave us Postal which is the most accurate translation of game to movie. You're thinking of Paul W.S. Anderson.
@@OMGmyFACE was him he chellenge critics to a boxing match if they criticized any bad movie he made can look it up cause they criticized house of the dead
And he also gave up on movies and went into the restaurant business
@@Deadhead-kq4hr Honestly, I can't hate him for doing that. He fought Lowtax. That was on a lot of bucket lists. It adds a punk rock element to him that people ignore. Boll clearly cannot care and it's funny. Have you seen his Letterboxd reviews before they banned him? Even the "retiring" thing is kinda great when you consider he's choosing to stop making bad video game movies. I stand by my W.S. pick. He just... yeah, I gotta say he's worse than Uwe Boll.
"Barbwire colonoscopy." The imagery this conjures. I don't know whether to laugh, cry, scream in horror or puke. Or all at the same time. Good one, good one.
The best Cannibal Corpse song never written.

Movie-verse Silent Hill fails so bad at being Silent Hill it can't even kill Sean Bean, FFS.
While playing as the most important dead character in the game.
Pronounced Seen Bean.
It can't even kill Sean Bean, playing a Character that's killed in SH3 lmao.
You forgot to add that Jon Snow has the least threatening face in the multiverse.
I literally apologized to my friends for bringing them to this. It came out on my 22nd birthday. I’m still embarrassed for bringing them. Most of the audience, including us just made fun of it the whole time. That was fun at least.
You still had a good time, then.
oh no...
I hope the new Christoph movie ends up being another love letter
Yeah me too
A new SH movie is in production? A surprise to be sure, but a welcomed one
Edit: should’ve watched all the way though first
another love letter? oh please, it added a pedo janitor and ripped out what the series was about. changed the snow to ash thanks to the *brilliant* idea of using Centralia as a new piece of inspiration -_-
@@aaron75fy Actually, considering the resemblance between Centralia and Silent Hill, it makes sense for them to take inspiration from it's look for the movie.
@@PIB2000 or...they could have just made it look exactly like Silent Hill from the games instead of taking inspiration from anywhere real?
That f*king toaster... I'm still having nightmares...
And then there's the fact that Claudia refers to Christabella as her sister. Christabella is Heather's aunt. Claudia is Vincent's mom. So Heather is dating her cousin?
Haaaaaaa
8:29-8:33 The only explanation we get from her is "We took a wrong turn. Got lost in the fog." Seriously...
That scene with the order members slapping away at a bunch of knife wielding monsters while saying "get away" always manages to get a laugh out of me.
BUT SEAN BEAN LIVES!
Filmed in my city. (Toronto)
This movie was so disappointing. The fact the first was so close to the games as far as vibe and camera angles, and this one was TV show style sets with cheap haunted house scares. Whats worse is I recognize most locations from my local area. When i first saw photos of our Cherry Beach in Toronto done up to look like Lakeside Amusement I was like "Wow.. That looks CHEAP"
Imma be honest, I thought the amusement park was the only cool-looking set. I have a bias for theme parks and carnivals though lol
@@SOBEKCrocodileGod Me too, I thought the Silent Hill Amusement Park looked great 😀
I think the idea behind the manikin monster scenes were to show that other people were getting drawn into Silent Hill because of things that have happened in their own past. Basically that there were other stories going on in Silent Hill at the same time that were unrelated to the cult plotline. I actually liked this idea... I didn't like it's execution, but I liked the idea.
I've always thought of it as the actions of the cult 'awoke' the town as a Genius Loci and it drew other people towards itself causing the events of all the non-Alessa related games. The town had spiritual power before but the cult's actions made it made it into something both more powerful and more dangerous.
When SH2 (the game) came out I assumed that it was happening at the same time as the original game but was simply happening in another part of the town and never the twain shall meet. So the manikin scene in Revelations would just be Heather briefly intruding in someone else's movie.
The subtitle “Revelation” is basically “We couldn’t think of another title.”
Yep

Silent Hill 2: The Silent Hillining
I am most definitely a casual SH fan, and loving the first movie, me and my twin went to see it the day after premiering. Theater was empty(there were about 3 others in there) and popcorn and soda fueled our excitement. No joke, I have no recollection of falling asleep. I just remember the mirror scene and my brother waking me up as the credits rolled; also yawning.
Best sleep of my life
I always wanted a transitional scene incorporating the fog and the main character just running forward, a sort of rendering screen, rather than the character teleporting.
They also tried to tie in downpour and origins which didn't do so good over here with the Easter eggs of the truck and prison bus driving into slient hill
The ultimate dilemma. Whats worse: Resident Evil: The Final Chapter or Silent Hill: Revelation .
Both are just equally shit.
Resident Evil by an inch as SHR!Heather was at least a likeable character where as Alice is the Director's 'Look at how Awesome my Wife is' Mary Sue.
Silent Hill: Revelation is at least watchable Resident Evil: The Final Chapter hurts my eyes with all the cuts.
Resident evil
Yeah, I go with RE: FC as the worst. Nothing good came out of this shit show.
Vincent: "You're muh queen"
Lol
They look like monsters to you? Oh wait, I forgot that's the real Vincent and not this fucking teenage heart throb bullshit.
Let's hope he doesn't refuse to fuck his relative this time. We don't need Heather/Alessa getting pissed.
I would almost argue that this film is worth seeing in a "so bad, it's good" kinda way. I had bought a used copy for cheap and watched it with a group of friends (some _Silent Hill_ fans, some not), and it got quite a few big laughs out of us. (The pop-tart jump-scare and the awkward hard cut to the giggling man on the bus being stand-outs.)
And to their credit, the writer/director M.J. Bassett (formerly "Michael J. Bassett") actually apologized for the film because even she hated how it turned out and accepts all the blame. I read a fairly recent interview where she described it as a "nightmare dance" where she was trying to balance pleasing producers with trying to make a sequel to the first film while also trying to make it more like the games... and it just turned into a cluster-fuck early on and never recovered.
#she
11:22 turns out umbrella corps is behind this
In knew it all along
Actually, you're wrong. It was that damn dog again.
Can we get Malcolm McDowell in good movies again please? Freaking pop tart jump scares don't deserve him.
Silent Hill Revelations was so bad it made me feel first hand what horrors lie in that godsforsaken town just by watching that trash. Also, as both a Silent Hill and Immortal fan i gotta say that this movie makes Immortal's videos look like some art house project in comparison.
Thank God you're back. I needed my SH fix.
What a garbage film, jfc. I couldn't help but have a laugh at Pyramid Head running the carousel though.
It makes for a good trailer shot, but other than being a visual gag it makes no sense what so ever.
Best part of the film right there. Died laughing when I first saw it. So fucking stupid.
The Pokémon battle at the end was even better hahaha
I feel like if Valtiel was operating the carousel it would’ve fit somewhat
@@SOBEKCrocodileGod Putting Valtiel in the movie would require the film-makers to research non-SH2 SH games.
I literally couldn't even watch that movie for the same amount of time as the entire duration of this video about it.
I think I got to about 7 minutes and was ready to gouge my eyes out.
I'm not about to leap to the defense of this trash fire. But it must be said that even the greatest screenwriter on the planet would be unable to churn out something of quality when confronted with the studio mandates to include all of the necessary "branding" like Pyramid Head and sexy nurses, regardless of context, while also suffocating the production with a miser's budget. This wasn't made by a company who has any interest in the source material beyond furthering a brand and franchise, as a machine to produce sequels. No decision maker on this project cared beyond making an audience point at the screen and say, "ooh, hey, that's the guy from the other movie! Can't wait for the next one!"
That's a really good point. I'm sure the creative staff were having to check a lot of boxes during production.
They ruined every character, including pyramid head. Had they had a proper director/screenwriting team that put this closely to the original story, they could have actually made something good, maybe even great.
I'd love it if someone who knows what they're doing could make a proper movie about Silent Hill 2. But if it were this idiot, he'd ruin every character.
the Sexy nurse thing comes from Alessa's relationship with Lisa, the nurses were in the first game, 2nd game (which is where they became what they look like from then on) and every game except 4 and Shattered Memories
Keep the greatness coming. You're always very insightful!
Thank you
@@AvalancheReviews no, thank you sir. U keep the passion for true survival horror alive. The real fans appreciate it
You know its funny...
Silent Hill (2006) was the best video game-to-movie adaptation ever put out, while its sister movie Revelations is the absolute worst to ever be put out. Kinda ironic. As a die hard Silent Hill fan, I find this sad, but in a way hilarious.
The quality of production in this vids is insane...outstanding sir!
Thank you! I always try to make my shit look good. Glad to see it's working.
I'm actually kind of excited to see the upcoming Silent Hill movie, I wanna know if Cristophe is just going to completely retcon this movie or to try and remake it in his vision.
I came from the future to say that this week, Christophe confirmed that it will be a SH2 film adaptation. So he's not touching whatever Revelations is lol
I think, RUclips being what it is these days, every like and every comment counts, so there. You rock, good sir!

She really did look like she could fit right in with immortal 😂
Hey man sorry to hear about your losses. Ive luckily not lost friends that way myself but I agree that's a serious issue. I was on trip once with a friend, we went to watch our football team on the road. My buddy has family out there and knows a few people so we joined a big tailgate. After the game we hopped in one of his friends cars to catch a ride. I was smashed myself but I could instantly tell this driver was pretty much on my level and should not be driving us. I started speaking up saying we need to switch drivers. I was being persistent and would not drop it, every one was getting annoyed, calling me a "buzz kill". And trust me it's hard to speak up sometimes around new people but I was like I'd rather they all hate me and I make it home alive. They actually ignored me but before we even got out the parking lot the driver hit a curb. At that point everyone realized I wasn't just being paranoid and we pulled over and switched drivers. I believe if I had not spoken up, considering we barely made it out the parking lot, I may of not made it home that night
I think some games are super-hard to translate, as the narrative is very “video gamey’, or the actual gameplay doesn’t really lend itself to a film adaptation.
But a game like Silent Hill should be layup.
Every aspect of the foundation is solid. And there isn’t the disconnect between narrative and gameplay that you see in a lot of other games. There’s no cognitive dissidence. It all ties in together cleanly.
And even when you look at the stories and how the town functions (acting as a personal hell/purgatory based upon the ‘sins’ of the individual trapped/haunted by the town), the franchise readily lends itself to telling new stories, meaning you could take the town and workings of silent hill and easily apply them to a new protagonist without a ton of difficulty.
And if you wanted to follow the storyline of SH1 & 3, it should/could be even easier, as it’s a very easy story to follow once you work it out.
While this wasn’t actually “the worst movie/video game adaptation ever”... it certainly was the best franchise to adapt into a film, and they just screwed the pooch.
I had a crush on the lead actress as a kid, leading me to play SH3, then leading me to play SH1. So yes, even though I was already into survival horror, I never gave SH a chance before having a crush on the Heather from this film. So there.
Hey if it's not too much trouble can you make a video on Resident Evil 2 Remake Map layout. Like how the shortcuts are opened up after you get keys to certain areas. I've been quite interested in such topics but can't really find any video on it. Please consider this.
Awesome video! Never watched the movie but I really enjoyed your commentary on it 😂
Don't ever watch it. You'll regret every minute you waste on it.
@ 13.24 "the worst videogame to movie adaptation ever made"
Nope.
This movie is hot garbage to be sure.
But you should watch any of the 11 videogame movies Uwe Boll directed and/or produced.
And there are even a handful of others, better than those but worse than this film.
I did not realise those were all directed by him...I don't understand? Why does he keep getting the job of making these when he's clearly bad at it and probably doesn't even care about making them good films anyway? Is there some backstory on this? I've seen about half of them and they are seriously some of the most painful things I've ever watched.
@@Gaff.
Because he took advantage of a German tax law that insured that his movies made money no matter how bad they bombed.
They've since revised the tax laws and got rid of the loophole.
@@orinanime Haha nice. Is he a fan of any of these games?
@@Gaff. no. Just a fan of cheap licenses.
@@orinanime Sounds about right.
"I don't want this movie... I nevah HAVE!" - Jon "Vincent" Snow
Still a better love story than Twilight. Also not even the worst game movie adaptation, House of the Dead beats everything. Jesus. Although the story material in the HotD games is also really something else, especially House of the Dead 2, that shit is something else entirely.
I'm not gonna lie, I actually enjoyed Adelaide Clemens' performance. I think she's a really good actress that gets put in really bad things more often than not. I find her portrayal of Heather to be just about the only thing I could actually stomach in the movie, and I wish she got a chance to play the character in a better adaptation.
People love that pyramid head placement. But seriously you hit this one hard. My wife despises this movie, and I've never really been able to bring myself go check it out. I can just feel it will be disappointing and you've done enough to cement that. Great job dude!
I’m sorry to hear about your losses at the hands of drunk driving, it’s a terrible thing and I agree with you on the sentencing.
As for the movie, complete doo doo ass. Couldn’t agree more. They really could have done something great with it too. I didn’t like the first SH movie either but at least they tried. I think it suffered from being an early 2000’s film, the worst decade for horror. The director was probably trying to please too many people at the time. I think the next movie really has a chance to shine with the resurgence of indie horror and smart 70’s style films like Hereditary, Us, Get Out, Oculus, The Lighthouse and whatnot. Hoping they adapt the second game this time. It’s not my favorite but it seems like the prime candidate for a film adaptation.
Now go watch the taste of this movie out with the Sonic movie haha.
Holy shit bonus points for a johnny pneumonic reference. You have earned a sub.
I just wanna give you props for putting some of my feelings to words, while at the same time making a video I like that managed to draw out all my disgust towards this "movie"
You know nothing John sn.... Vincent.
Great vid. Glad you got around to it.
really good video, I totally agree with the points you raised. This film was a tragic waste of an opportunity to improve on the mostly decent first film in the series, but instead they went for a cheap Hollywood style 3D semi action film that they thought they could make money from. One of few good points about this film (which actually makes it more of a let down considering how good it could have been) is the actors they hired - they are mostly very talented but even they struggled with the poor script writing. Hands down the best part of this movie is the continued and frankly necessary inclusion of Akira Yamaoka's music. I really want to get excited about the seemingly likely possibility of a new SH film, but have to say anything new related to this series now I have to remain incredibly cautiously optimistic about.
I gotta give you props for making through this movie. I turned it off after that scene at the mall, I couldn't even believe how bad it was
Dude you are literally.my favourite review channel
holyshit man this is such an early upload im not even asleep. Def gonna check it out when i wake up. Dont kill yourself burning the midnight oil!
I liked the second film only a little, in moments. There just wasnt an authentic tone, etc. The first film was a masterpiece in my opinion, so many things right. The problem with films, is that its neccessary to have the whole collaboration come together, its very rare.
I have to make a confession, apart from a few hours on SH1 I've never played any of the games, the control system was at fault (for me, not for anyone else), I couldn't get used to it at all. I have been aware of them and thought of it as a Lovecraftian horror. Having just blitzed the whole of your series on SH I have a much deeper understanding and enjoyment of SH and for that I am hugely grateful.
It definitely had a Lovecraftian horror feel. My personal favorite.
Recently rewatched this. It's better than I remembered
So you guys hear the news? Christophe Gans said he is working on a new silent hill movie, (kind of like a reboot) this time being a 100% faithful to the first game, and his first choice for Harry is Carl Urban
Kit Harrington was born and raised where I live, Acton in London Uk
Can someone tell me what song is used in the beginning?
I hope avalanche talks about what he feels about the announcement of there being a two new SH games and a movie.
Curious thing: this movie was the very first thing I saw on Netflix... on my 3DS. Yeah, the movie sucks, but the novelty of watching it on such a tiny screen, tho!
(Also, no, it had no 3D to speak of.)
Honestly, that does sound cool.
Holy shit I completely forgot that Harry lives in this movie. The one time Sean Bean had every right to be killed in a movie and he wasn't. I haven't seen it since like 2015 and this thing is so bad I actively chose to believe that they still killed him off if only to say at least they got one thing right. But they didn't even do that.
Tbh the first silent hill movie changed my life. I was too young to play the OG games when they came out, so I discovered silent hill through the 2006 movie. I absolutely love it even if I can see its flaws (like the pyramid head nonsense). So I was beyond excited when they announced revelations. But then I checked who the director was... And I knew we were in for a disaster. I think the only reason why it's the worst film you've ever seen is that you've probably haven't seen other films directed by this man. It seems that all his movies are THIS bad. I must admit his SH is a particular level of shitty, though. I decided to act like SH revelations never happened and wiped most of it from my memory. You've reminded me how insanely bad it actually was. Thank you for this great vid and your whole SH retrospective series, it has been a pleasure to watch, and we share about the same views on the first movie so I was really glad to hear a more nuanced opinion on it. Let's hope Christopher Gans is gonna make something good!
i really like silent hill from part 1 to 3 i love the fact that part 1 nd 3 are connected, the movies in the other hand well just no lol its good to see u back man!

The movie is so shitty it muddied space time.
This entire production looks like a direct-to-video Hellraiser sequel.
I saw this in theatres too when it came out and while I thought it was bad, during the time while watching it, I thought it was good.
Only movies I ever wanted to walk out of was Rob Zombies Halloween 2 and Fifty Shades of Grey.

Good to see you back in action rock slide!
The dvd for this movie sat in the backseat of my old Toyota for about four years before I totaled the car and scrapped it for a new one. It’s in a junk yard somewhere along with the dvd. I never watched it and probably never will but I’ve always heard good things about it.
Thanks for reminding me that Johnny Mnemonic deserves a rewatch for no other reason than to see Dolph Lundgren utter the phrase "Jesus time!"
Your reviews rock.

Hope you end up giving us a Homecoming and Downpour retrospectives as well. They're not good but oh well you made one on this pile of garbage that it is this movie lol.
You do amazing work!
My wife and I watched this when it first came out, we both enjoyed it at the time with mild gripes. However I don't own it like I own the first one. I often forget it exist beyond running into the guy who still works at that theater who still finds it hilarious that we enjoyed this movie. So... yeah... might rewatch it, or just not and say I still enjoyed it.
I was really hoping this would be the review for the first silent hill movie before this one. I try to pretend this one never happened
I remember when first watching this film, I was wondering where Valtiel is and thought that the hellraiser bitch was supposed to be Valtiel. Then I realized that my boy had in fact just been recast as a shitty prop. 8:43
When this movie came out I was so disenfranchised from the whole series I gladly never watched, and never will xD
That evil panda nose is so adorable.
Ha, I've only watched the intro so far but that line about it 'sounding pretty good on paper' to combine a sequel to the first movie with elements of SH3 gave me a really good laugh. I really liked the first movie but could easily see that the direction that it went meant that following it up with SH3's plot was pretty much impossible. Too much was changed from SH1 for SH3 to make any kind of sense, it was no surprise at all that Revelations made no sense whatsoever. I figured that the only way to do another SH movie was to either adapt one of the non-Alessa based games or to just write a brand new plot set in Silent Hill.
I remember how excited I was when this movie came out. The first movie got me into the franchise and I still love it even if it changed a lot of the games plot and I don't think it's perfect. However - Silent Hill 3 was the first game of the series I've ever played so I was so hyped to get a sequel to the film (and game) I loved. What happened while I was watching the movie was probably the same thing that happened to you. After about 30 minutes, I couldn't believe what I was watching. It might be true that the movie might have been a little bit less bad if they wouldn't have tried to continue the plot from the first film but... looking at those stupid jumpscare and gore moments, I highly doubt that the connection to the first one was this movies biggest issue. I'm not sure if I would call it the worst movie I've ever saw or even the worst game adaptation because they at least tried to stick to the plot from the games while the last few Resident Evil movies were just pure garbage that had nothing to do with the games... but I will remember this movie as one of the biggest dissapointments I've ever had watching it in theaters.
That showdown between the big bads at the end was more farcical than Freddy vs Jason.
This movie was so ridiculously full of plot holes and elements that made no sense that I almost drove myself insane trying to figure it out. Had to look up these kind of reviews just to reassure myself I wasn’t crazy, and found one of my favorite youtubers had it covered!
I Remember Being Super Hyped For This Cause I Really Enjoyed The 1st Movie And The 2nd One Came Out Just Before My Birthday
Boy Was That A Dissapointing Birthday Gift 😂
I honestly think the first SH movie is good even from just a movie stand point but because it's a VG movie everyone's image of it gets tainted
Annnnnnnnd I missed this man. 👏🏻
Thank you for your personal sacrifice in making this...
Plot wise it seemed to try to have the cake and eat it too. It tried too hard trying to retcon the events of the first film to be that of SH3
I was so impressed by the first SH movie that I was not only disappointed after seeing Revelations; I was straight up saddened and depressed afterwards, too.
The only good things about this movie are Yamaoka’s music, the Lakeside amusement park looks cool, and Heather’s actress looks like her. That’s all.
I’ve really been enjoying your work. I found you about a month ago and I like everything I have seen.
