A Sombre Morning Walk in a Cotswold Village | English Countryside

So, today we are out and about walking in the Cotswold village and civil parish of Coln St. Dennis. The village is situated on the River Coln in Gloucestershire, England. The village is about 3 miles (4.8 km) southwest of Northleach and about 7 miles northeast of Cirencester. The local parish also includes the village of Coln Rogers and the hamlets of Calcot, Fossebridge and Winson.
The local parish church is dedicated to Saint James the Great. The church is of Norman origins. Over the centuries the church was assigned different names including St. Katherine, St. Dennis and possibly St. Kenelm.
According to the 2011 census the parish total was 194.

When the trees are bare and you see those skeletal frames stretching sinuously towards the sky, and when the sky gets a little more grey and the light casts long shadows (not that I often see your shadow in your videos) the Cotswolds can take on a slightly gothic appearance as if there might be some romantic intrigue around each corner. But then the sun breaks through just a little and the river's surface dances in the breeze and we see the shrubs that have clung to the trunks and the conifers which will always stay green and that joyfully irregular stonework makes us smile again. Thanks for a wonderful video. I'm so late to the party, I didn't even see the one with flawed audio.

@@OutandaboutWalking Wow. The best of luck with that. It's always difficult to start a new channel but with this channel being such a success, I have a lot of confidence you'll do well. Is it along the same lines or something very different?
@@jagoturner thanks :). I know what you mean as I tried in recent months two new channels in which I purposely did not use this channel for leverage at all to promote them...both channels were epic fails, so I ended up deleting them. With this new channel I will be using this channel to promote the new one (in due course) as it is kind of part of the ‘Out and about’ family and utilises the familiar branding that you are used to seeing on this channel. Further teaser...it involves meditation music (self written) the Cotswolds and multiple cameras. I am quietly confident that this one should eventually do okay but will still take a lot of time & effort to grow it. I am hoping for the first upload to be published on the 1st January...New Year...new start :). I’m already sure that you will support it as much as you can, I’m especially looking forward to your descriptive comments (expect more pinning ;)) - many thanks in advance! Your wonderful support for this channel this year has been paramount! All the best and thanks again.
@@OutandaboutWalking That sounds amazing. I will definitely be looking at the new channel with interest and, I agree, it would be foolish to expect it to grow without a little promotion here. I have had to backtrack on some of my views about walking videos recently. I have always said there's room for everyone and there is, but I've seen so many great new entries into the field that I feel the casual viewer searching for 'walking in the Cotswolds' will have about a million pages of possibilities popping up. Some of my videos are well worth the casual observer spending time with (false modesty be damned) but some of my videos leave me feeling a little underwhelmed and there is much which I have not posted recently because it didn't reach the bar. Your work is one of the leaders in the field and I'm so glad it has been so successful because it really deserves to be. You have regular viewers who come back and watch most, if not all, of your videos. I suspect a lot of those viewers will be on board for your new channel which will give it a major push. I also plan to try some new things early next year. Onward to the next stage in this grand adventure.

If I recall correctly, I think I also said to you something along the lines of that we need more walking channels featuring the Cotswolds, well that certainly happened and then some! Now there are so many channels for viewers to choose from than ever. And like you say “many new great entries”, which does make for a highly competitive field. But, I still stand by what I said and think about your channel, which is you have got something different that stands out by the inclusion of music, which makes your videos super relaxing, I personally play your videos to help me wind down at the end of a busy day. But having said that...it would appear that the majority of viewers prefer walking videos without music added. I dearly hope you will continue with your channel even if it is at a lesser rate of uploading. Whatever you decide to do moving forwards you already know that you will receive my support & backing. Regarding this channel, I am blessed to have many regular viewers currently who do often tune in and for which I am extremely grateful, also of the back of this, some really great friendships have been formed along the way (including ours, I do enjoy our chats ;). But to reach this point as you will be fully aware, has not been easy and the amount of time, effort & money to make these videos is a great deal. Believe it or not though, this channel is still classed as small, as apparently a channel is not classed as being medium in size until it has more than 100k subs, hopefully in the next 5 - 6 years I might get somewhere near that but like most things in life...time will tell.

I love your videos !! They are so soothing and relaxing ! There sure isnt any traffic...or are you there at the right time when maybe everyone is still sleeping ? If I ever make it that way I might need a tour guide ! Are you available for hire ?! At least for a cup of coffee and a bite of breakfast ?!

Yes, majority of the time it is so quiet because people are sleeping as I tend to film either early in the morning or late at night (night walks in the Cotswolds are a relatively new thing to the channel). Good afternoon, what a beautiful dark & damp walk. Love how the creek and road split in that one frame, it was gorgeous. I really like how fallen wet leaves smell, so earthy. The lanes and stacked stone walls add mystery on a damp morning, the colors are amazing as they blend into one anorher with cream, gray then beautiful green, you seem to capture it all. I kinda prefer this walk: no rain, overcast, wet everywhere, can hear birds and wind rustling the trees, clearer views and reflections in puddles and on leaves. Coln seems placid today with just abito runoff current. Guess we missed seeing the tumuli, Colnpen, Barrows and Wrights (scaredy cat?); yet not the Rivendale archways, ancient scraggly barren Ents awaiting winter. Say! 🚶was leaning on a stone fence plus knocking on a door atop a rustic stone staircase. So glad he was with us today, you've had him too busy editing videos, he needs to get out more, fresh air and all that. I'm certainly fresh after this jaunt, freezer burnt sinuses and blue fingers, but cozy elsewhere in insulation unders from deep discount store, I need to return there for fleece lined mittens and double thick cap > had the thick blonde Scottish "wire" mop of hair so never worried of me ears but it's not aging well, it's more liken a mottled grey feather duster🧓.
Thanks so much for your company today on today's saunter. That is the nice thing about our walks - they are very subjective, there willl always be elements that you may enjoy and then some days maybe not so much. Scardy cat? I did a double take, when I saw the little walking man logo on the billboard, on the wall. Did you put that on there? By the way, any of your old videos are wonderful! I love your slow walks. It's about the speed I walk now! 😂😂😊
