Fun fact: Transcendence used to be a Twilight fanfiction. This is why they are called Edh (Edward) and Beh (Bella). I remember reading it at the time. tbh I wasn't really a fan. It wasn"t bad, but not my favourite.

Transcendence is one of those books that I read when it came out and it really stuck with me. I loved it. It was so creative and different. Wrt the speaking: Ehd is supposed to be lower on the evolutionary scale, so his brain doesn't have the two parts of the cerebral cortex that allow humans to understand language and speak. So that's why only some of their kids have the ability and Ehd can't learn. Bc his brain doesn't have that ability.
Also, as a lifelong historical romance reader, I highly recommend Judith McNaught, Julie Garwood, Lisa Kleypas and Amanda Quick historical romances. BUT I reeeeeally wish people wouldn't judge books by modern standards. A good historical will try to put you in the time period without completely turning you off. And remember, we love to criticize old books for being problematic, and pat ourselves on the back for being enlightened and woke, but our kids will do the same to us.

Diana Jean Agree with everything you said. I actually just reread Transcendence. I really like that book. So many romance books run together, but this one does stick with you. I don’t know how she didn’t cry.....I teared up or cried in a few parts! Lol. I think possibly she’s reading for speed, so many that’s why? I also read Beh’s novella Luffs. It’s not nearly as in depth, but was good to help round out the story. And I too love Judith McNaught. Something Wonderful and A Kingdom of Dreams are my favorites, but she’s always good. And I too don’t like judging the past by today’s standards either. 17-29 was probably a normal age gap, men needed to establish themselves to support a family, women weren’t dating around, etc.

Hi Jessica, I'm the one who recommended a Kingdom of dreams to you on instagram and yes I'm from Spain. I'm really glad you loved one of my favourite books. I have reread a kingdom of dreams I don't know how many times(more than 20). If in some point you want to start a new historical romantic series I recommend "Knight Miscellany" by Gaelen Foley. She is such an amazing writter and It' s a family saga so I think you would like it. Thank you so much. Loved the video.

A Kingdom of Dreams is my favorite romance novel as I like the characterization of Jenny and that she stayed herself while he bended. Historical romance maybe 800-1800 is definitely my favorite, but when you have a strong heroine she often has to bend for the hero--not in this case.
Although so many people love Whitney, My Love, there is a defining scene in the book that is massively wrong, and I just don't know how readers can forgive the hero for it. Then, the end has a needless complication, seemingly to add in another 50 pages.
Paradise and Almost Heaven are two others by McNaught I would suggest.
If you looking for historicals, try Shannon Drake & Heather Graham (same author, different name) but their older books as the newer ones are clearly sent to writing farms to mass-produce junk.

Judith McNaught's Paradise is one of my favorite romances of all time. It reminds me of a sudsy 1950's movie. I've read Kingdom of Dreams, but I can barely remember it. I've never understood the love many romance readers have for Chase's Lord of Scoundrels. Just didn't think it was outstanding. On Mariana Zapata - Wait For It was the first book of hers I read, and at the time I loved it. I then read Winnipeg, and then Kulti. But then I read this review - I think it was on a blog. Once I read it I couldn't enjoy re-reading Mariana's books anymore, because I kept noticing this theme.
Not only are they incredibly similar (especially the protagonists) they seem to be exceptionally internally (and externally) misogynistic? From the books I've read, the main characters (Diana, Sal, Van, Jasmine, even Ruby) make endless remarks about other women and the clothes they wear and who they sleep with and how that makes them 'less' worthy of respect, and seems to be a vehicle for the protagonists to feel like 'better' women. There is a *lot* of slut-shaming, and it makes me deeply uncomfortable.
I love the idea of Mariana's books, the setting, the pace, the age gaps, the slow burn. But they also leave a sour taste in my mouth.
EDIT - found the review: smartbitchestrashybooks.com/reviews/guest-review-kulti-mariana-zapata/

I felt the same about attachments. I honestly just didn't like it. I kinda felt bad because it's literally so hyped but I just don't understand why.

Good Lord, you need to read all of the Judith mcnaught books like right now. They are so good. She is one of the first romance authors I fell in love with, even though they are written 30 years old.

Look who is sitting up on top of the sofa again.....lol.
This not my favorite McNaught historical romance book. "Once and Always".....tortured hero. Her contemporaries are good too!
Julie Garwood is my favorite HR Author. "The Secret" and "Ransom" (love and admires the characters) or "The Bride" and "The Wedding".
Love Lord of Scoundrels....keep reading. Loretta Chase is awesome.
Can you tell I love Historical Romance and Paranormal Romance? Urban Fantasy.....lol

Great video. I have a few romance novels that I want to read soon but I don't know what one to read next. Could I please have your opinion on which one I should maybe choose. My choices are- going dark by Monica McCarty, heat exchange by Shannon Stacey, bossman by vi keeland, the air he breathes by Brittany c cherry, sinners creed, an MMA book by Sarah castille or defending Chloe by Susan stoker.

I've read everything she's written! I discovered her back in her Indy days, and Fallen too Far is still my favorite series she's written. Her Rosemary Beach and Sea Breeze series are fantastic. I don't recommend the sweet series, though. Definitely a decline in both writing quality and creativity. I also DNF'd 'best I've ever had' Bc I hated the H, the h was stupid, and it was painfully predictable.

    • @Greeneyedgirl0704

Diana Jean thanks for letting me know! I will steer clear from that series! I was going to pick up the entire used set of the sea breeze series but I wasn’t sure bc I never read her before :( I should’ve done it!!

The Nerdy Birdie I will warn you: her sea breeze & rosemary beach series are different than her Friday Night & Vincent Boys series. Those are YA & her SB & RB series are NA. I actually forgot the explicit sex in Fallen too Far until I recommended it to someone 🤣
