I think it is a good idea for people to gather information from a number of sources to see what resonates the best with them.
"Thats judo!" Every martial art from every culture from every continent has a foot sweep (inside/outside), a hip toss, and a step-behind/scissor sweep. To paraphrase Bruce Lee, the human body only has two arms and two legs and there's only so many ways it can move. Setting an artificial boundary on your applications is not a great way to develop one's fighting style.
