About the camera angles, I wanted to add that the fixed camera heavily added to the feeling of the characters being watched/stalked. A lot of them are set up as if we're the creature/"psycho killer" peeking at them from behind corners or trees and I love when horror media does that.
I’m not typically a fan of jump scares but in this case I feel it made sense because the point is that it’s supposed to feel like a cheesy horror movie and those are chock full of em
@notdeadyet3680 by unnecessary i meant they had too many when I felt that the atmosphere and tone was good enough that it wasn't needed. But that's just my opinion, and it didn't make me like the game any less
The original is rife with those its not a remake problem you’re just mis-remembering the original, my biggest dissapointement is them not removing the cheapest numpsacre in the first place
10:20 The music that plays when Mike chases after Jessica is when the original's music is clearly so much better. The original's sound design is just so crisp and perfect.
You're absolutely correct on all points. Personally the horrendous lighting and removal of the fixed camera angles in the remake are what disappointed me the most. In their quest to make the game "more realistic", they stripped away the game's cinematic qualities and visual identity. The original had a clear and distinctive visual identity that was consistent throughout the game that clearly was paying homage to horror cinema. The remake strips all this away, resulting in a game that looks wildly inconsistent, from half the scenes being too dark to even see and appreciate what's going on, to the others varying so wildly that it's hard to belive they're all from the same game. For example, the money shots of Handigo at the end if the game were just abysmal in the remake compared to the original - they removed all of the stylistic lighting from the scene in favor of realism, so you can barely even see what's going on half of the time, and even when you can the scenes still look far less detailed and impressive compared to the original. It doesn't matter how much they improve the graphical fidelity of the models and environments if they can't even be seen half the time. While modders should be able to fully restore the soundtrack and sound effects of the original game, fixing the lighting and restoring the fixed camera angles will likely prove far more difficult, assuming it's even possible at all. Guess we'll just have to wait and see. At least we'll always have the original 😅
Oh yeah, good to know I wasn’t the only one who felt let down with the lighting in the game. I thought it was just nostalgia influencing how much I preferred how the original looked compared to the remake.
I just don't understand why they need to remove these things. Instead of removing and replaceing just add them as an optional new features. That's how you make a good remake. Lets say it slowly: "Do not. Remove. Add. New"
@@heikkiheinonen6745eh I think it looks better that aggressive ass blue filter always drove me crazy and in terms of things with the remake literally nothing changed. it made it look better exactly how they said it would. Die hard fans of this game love it and you’ll see the majority playing this over the OH any day. If you hate it so much delete and go back to the original no need to bitch and moan bc the OG never left
@seen636 Why would you be against the idea that the remake had options that you could change filters or camera angles? That would just be more options for all players.
You really need to play it in HDR. I played the last wendigo scene yesterday and it looked absolutely phenomenal on a hdr1000 monitor. It easily surpasses the sequence in the original
You've actually put my issues with the remake into words, instead of my previous icky feelings about it. The death of O'Death was honestly the biggest thing to me. Absolutely insane decision made there :'D
The contrast in music is insane! The music in the original for that final sequence was so nail bitingly tense, and then in the remake it’s pretty much silent
The change to the camera has disappointed me ever since House Of Ashes. The developers kept getting criticized by newcomers about not liking the fixed camera angles, so now the devs are obsessed with "modernizing" every new game they release
I thought this was just supposed to be a visual remake and a PC port. I don't know why they changed the soundtrack and everything else so much. Even the visual changes seem a bit off. The amount of detail muddles the visual storytelling, and makes it harder to see the characters expressions. Like the scene in the cabin at the end, I know it's supposed to be dark, but I cannot make out his face.
The remake, on one hand, also allowed people (like me) to get access to the games files on PC and find unused dialogue and conversations between characters and unused deaths and graphics. Without this remake, that all would have been lost media. But nice review either way!
Wish they kept the Chris,Sam and Jessica conversation, it would have gave Jessica some new content while also making the group of friends feel like friends, though they’re probably all just acquaintances in canon,I think some friendly interactions would help sell the fact their at least friendly with one another
Yeah it’s a bit sad that Jessica doesn’t really get any time with characters besides fighting with Emily, flirting or fighting with Mike depending what you choose, and then if she survives the few minutes she has at the end where she relies on Matt to keep her alive Like- those are literally her only interactions I think 😂
Speaking of Let’s Plays of this game. My favorite was SuperBestFriend’s of this game. It was their first time playing the game but with Pat’s excellent control on the game, Matt’s experience with horror movies and both of their quick thinking; they saved everyone and got the best ending on the first try. It’s a fantastic play through with great banter between the two.
been waiting for a video that goes into this level of detail on remake's issues! hard agree - and on top of the points you already made re: the over-the-shoulder camera, i'd add that the og fixed camera heightened the feeling of the characters being watched. which they literally ARE - by josh, by hannah, by flamethrower guy. that sense of 'someone is watching you right now, but you don't know it' was communicated so strongly through those camera angles, and it's totally lost now.
I have been waiting for a video about this. I do like the remake, but the OG feels different and I like the vibe more. The lighting, the uncanny animations, the fixed camera angles is what made UD for me. I personally am not a fan of the way characters get redesigned or 'updated' for remakes, like how faces were edited - I had the same issue with LiS though. And the skin texture. Lastly: I was watching people play the game, the blacks were so dark that I couldn't see anything in the sanitorium sections. (On a big bright screen)
im so glad you brought up the music during the police interviews. the original's score is way more fitting for the scenes, why does the score in the remake sound like we're still being chased by a wendigo or something
35:30 the butterfly affect for shooting Ashley is that she isn’t waiting for Chris. If you don’t shoot her she’s really concerned for you and waits right by the door. Whereas if you shoot her she waits with the others and can’t get to the door in time. Tbh they should have just made it that nobody is there. Also I don’t even get why the door is locked
@ because it’s a glass door… the wendigo was literally able to snap a metal rope so it should be able to burst straight through that with ease. Plus I don’t think they know how to twist a handle
@@itschris2628 still. rather have a slightly better defense than an unlocked door. they should have been barricading honestly, but locking the door is a very natural response to "danger outside"
@@alicepbg2042 respectfully idk why you are so up tight about my suggestion of leaving the door unlocked. I’m just stating that when you think about it, it doesn’t make much sense. How did they plan the get back in anyway? Was nobody going to wait at the door? If so then they left knowing they just locked themselves out and have absolutely no way in. So either the door shouldn’t have been locked or else everyone should have waited for them by the door. Either way the way it happened doesn’t make much sense
instead of rescoring they shouldve gave jessica and matt there scenes. Also jessicas actress confirmed coming back to work on the remake. She came back for a few lines apparently
My biggest problem was that they left in the pacing issues, for example, somehow Hannah made it a mile into the woods in the 30 seconds it took Beth to go after her. Or when Chris pranks Josh and Sam in the basement and Matt and Emily were apparently standing out on the porch 20 something minutes after they were supposed to leave to look for Emily's bag. That bugged me in the original and even more in the remake
Very well made. I agree with all of your points. I had a great time with the remake but it lacks the aura and identity that the original has I pray that we get an update (paid or not) that allows us on console to restore the original score and sounds. Would be a dream come true ⏳
Thank you! And Exactly, I hope I didn't come across as too harsh because I did still enjoy playing the remake and enjoyed the story additions. But it definitely felt underwhelming in terms of the atmosphere when compared to the original version. Plus O'Death is just a classic, that new opening just don't hit the same 😭
This feels like when Atlus made the emulator port for Persona 3 available on game pass and steam and everyone collectively hated it for being lazily pieced together with the sound quality actively being worse than the original game. Except when that happened everyone excused it, hoping a full remake was on the way. And it delivered on all fronts. Wish that this remake would have done the same
Regarding the sound design and soundtrack, I think you make excellent points. An important factor about the horror genre is that it's an (and apologies if this isn't the correct word for it, I've only ever heard it from Norwegian) is that it's text external, meaning that it's defined by getting a specific reaction from the audience, which in this case would be having them be scared. This, of course, makes horror such a diverse genre with a lot of sub-genres. The sound design is so important for this, because it tells you _how_ to feel about what you're seeing. In movies such as _Us_ or _Midsommar_ , there is stuff happening during daylight, and in a non-horror movie, one wouldn't bat an eye at any of the locations or what was happening. But with an eerie soundtrack, the audience starts feeling uneasy even though there's nothing visual on screen that should make you feel uneasy. In the examples you showed, the removal of the tense music truly does ruin a lot of the feeling one is supposed to have in those moments
I can excuse a LOT for the remake, truly I can, but the thing that makes me the most angry is the change to Sam's character. Having her sit on the couch alone and not actively look for Hannah to prevent the prank DRASTICALLY changes her personality. The game calling her "brave" is now ironic instead of genuine. She succumbs to peer pressure and lets them do that to her BEST FRIEND and warns her only after she's been humiliated. OG Sam tried to stop it, actively went looking around the lodge for Hannah and wanted to keep her from participating. Knowing Hayden came back for the new end scene, I would have tried getting Hannah's actress back and actually have Sam try to talk Hannah out of it, ending with Hannah not believing her and going anyway. It would add to both characters, make Hannah less innocent and Sam more so. Instead, they change Sam from a good friend who got there too late to a participant by inaction. Getting the twins' actress back would also be beneficial to get more transformation scenes as Hannah (like an addition to the Events of the Past you get if you collect all the hunger totems) and more footage for Beth. I wanted to get to know Beth more, hear her opinions on people, learn about her personality. I was so sad to find that we couldn't explore her bedroom in the remake as it is the PERFECT new location to add with more collectibles. I appreciate a lot of the new visuals and I'm glad more people can play it on different platforms, but I still think the original is better.
They wouldn't have even needed the original twins actors, I'm sure most people would care more about getting new scenes with Hannah and Beth then wether they have the same voice
I never played the original and was psyched for the remake until I found out the original camera angles wouldn’t even be an option. Literally Art Appreciation 101 how many things can be conveyed through a camera angle and this is a cinematic game that’s purposely light on gameplay. Halloween is over now and any motivation to play it as a new ps5 game is null but hopefully I get the motivation to play the original some day
Damnnn that change in music is insane. As someone who was never really a fan of Until Dawn, I never really appreciated the music since it belonged to a game I didn't really like. After having seen your comparison, I now understand how pivotal the music was at heightening the intensity of the action/horror scenes. It was bold, and the remake tries going for a subtle, almost dubstep sound which takes all of the impact out of the individual moments.
the thing is they didnt call it a remake, the media did. I feel like this feels more like a deluxe remaster more than anything. I still enjoy it however, mostly cuz i was able to get it on pc now and pirated it for free, so i really cant complain, but ill finally legitimately purchase it when it goes on sale to get all achievements and platinum it again like i did with teh og on ps4. Personally i was happy, but It does suck a bit for those that paid full price.
I'm glad the dark pictures games are still composed by Jason Graves. Those games aren't amazing, but the music has always stayed consistently great in them. I was a way bigger fan of Man Of Medan than most people just because of how greatly it builded tension and suspense with it's music. To anyone who is disappointed with the Until Dawn remake, and doesn't remember Man Of Medan enough, I strongly suggest relooking at the scene when the kidnappers first show up, invading the boat. That scene was brilliant. Little Hope has an equally amazing soundtrack
right, the music in all of them is so so good. i constantly catch myself listening to “weapons of mass destruction” from hoa, it’s so good and makes me feel like i’m in the shoot out😭
Im also sick of remakes, and ive been disappointed that so many games this generation have been remakes ...HOWEVER, and this js not me defending corpos, besides tje obvious reason (money) i think from a developer standpoint, remakes tend to take less time to make currently compared to regular games at the moment, i don't know how long this remake took, but the last of us remake took about one year to make, and part 2 took 7 years ro make, i think a part of the problem is modern games extremely long development times and crunch, whereas when you remake a game you're essentially copying someome elses or even your own older work and just redoing it for modern hardware, you're not starting from scratch like you are with development for a new game, therefore it takes less time to make. Im not defending the onslaught of remakes lately but i do think there's a more labour related reason to them besides just "haha money im going to make these gamers buy this game TWICE AHAHAHAHAHA"! even though that is the point on the business side of things
Another thing you have to take into account with remakes is that they almost always dumb them down so it takes EVEN LESS TIME to make. For example the fixed camera angles in Until Dawn, it's a PAIN making good fixed camera angles, it takes a lot of time and artistry. Slapping an over the shoulder camera is wayyyy easier and faster to optimize dev time.
The music/sound change is probably the worst part of the remake for me. The original was soooo much more unsettling, creepy and flowed perfectly in every part. Just goes to show you can’t improve what’s already great!
The one scene I wish had the most improvements was the scene when Sam and Mike open the door to where Josh is at the end and the water rushes through with the heads of their friends and the flamethrower guy. The scene never changed depending on whose bodies were actually present in the scene. If you had everyone still alive then Sam and Mike would react the same way seeing the random guy they met less than an hour ago then they would seeing their friends of years decapitated and hanging from the ceiling.. If I remember correctly the remake took away Sam's initial reaction where she would move her head and eyes to look at ''all'' the heads floating out the door despite on my first playthrough having only the flamethrower guy. Its the one scene in the original they really took me out of the action and kind of spoiled the ending. It felt like it was canonical to have all the heads float out. Just a weird thing but still bugs me to this day 😂
Very interesting video. Watching it rn and the production quality feels so high, really entertaining. This might not cater to your audience but to me this comparison in particular is very interesting. All the best, but please keep making new stuff on games that peaks your interest
Why can’t remakes of MASTERPIECES just be a RE-make, give it the stunning graphics and give it simple changes to the story and that’s it. The remake LOOKS way better, but the hue maks it WAY less creepy.
Sadly you are so right about this, the Remake don't make nothing better than the original Until Dawn did, and still is (for me) the best Supermassive Games title to this day. Love the original game and his homage to the horror cinema and the classic survival horror games. 💜
My theory is that Sony wanted to capitalize on the RE remake style (over the shoulder) and GoW reboots (over the shoulder) and they gave this remake project to a bunch of rookies and interns that are now working at the studio. That or the devs had like 5 months to make this. There's a crippling lack of narrative understanding and media literacy in the creative fields right now. It seems nobody understand why certain choices are made for an art piece. It's treated either like utter mystery, or the understanding is surface level. It's about iconography. Like, there are many Star Wars fans who think you can't have Star Wars without lightsabers. This leads to the devs of the remake: I think they are talented devs, but they absolutely did not understand any of the artistic choices made. They instead wanted to do "their take", but their take is a shallow misinterpretation. It's like they're trying to do things for the sake of it, rather than having some sort of a vision or a vibe.
I agree with most of the points, especially the audio changes. However, I actually dislike the change they made to Ashley’s involvement in Chris’ death. I feel that giving Ashley this dark scene where the events of the evening finally make her snap made her one of the more interesting characters. Yes, it’s petty on her part, but it makes sense for her given her behaviors leading up to it. Ashley constantly fought with Chris about not wanting to venture further and how scared she was. Chris was always the moral compass leading them deeper into the hotel in search of Sam. I think in the same way that we all love Mike for the changes his character went through over the course of the evening, Ashley should have been allowed to keep the original sequence in which she kind of goes through the opposite development from Mike. She gives into her fear and turns on those around her. So much more interesting and nuanced in my opinion
Well, when it comes to the soundtrack in particular, I remember when buying Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition for my switch, the soundtrack was entirely remastered as well, but I didn't like some tracks as much as the original, but thankfully they made it possible for you to choose between the original sound and the remastered one for every single track. In my experience, it's alswasys best to give players a choice. Btw. I think I'd actually also prefer the fixed camera in Until Dawn, simply because, like you said, the gameplay is so diffrent from Resident Evil for example, so I think this works absolutely great here.
Watch the extras on RUclips, save your money. The soundtrack changes alone kept me away. I still have my Ps4 copy and it plays fine on my PS5, I don't need an update on the graphics, I want to play how it was originally intended. This was just the least needed "remake" or "remaster" in my opinion. I didn't need a SH2 remake but I liked it so I'm fine they did it. Just my opinion.
the music and sound effects change is so devastating it hurts we can’t have the new graphics AND the incredible sound design of the first game. really shows how sound is everything in horror
My family member recently watched a lets play of Until Dawn remake and while they liked it, they were not really scared by the experience. I think with the original they also would hold a similar opinion about its jump scares, but like you pointed out, the tension in those scenes work much better and create a really unnerving atmosphere. It was still fun to hear about their opinion, but I wish they experienced the original instead because I think they would be more impacted by it.
This game reminds me of the "live or die" special feature on the Final Destination 3 DVD. Choosing who lives or dies changing what will happen to the characters. I love the original, that'll never change - I do dislike the camera angle change and much warmer lighting the remake has. This game getting a movie next year is probably part of the reason we even fot this "remake"
My biggest gripe of the remake was the soundtack, expecially as a music person. The second i loaded up the game and found out that o' death was gone, I was heartbroken. The downgrade of the soundrack litterally hurt my soul. I may be biased since im an orchestra kid, and grew up on string instruments, but i whole heatedly believe that the og soundtrack that relied heavily on string instruments, drums, and deep horns fit insainely good with the vibe of until dawn. The new soundrack sounds like it was designed for a generic up and comming horror movie. The interrogation scene with the new music was weird since some outcomes have mike talking about how he shot Emily with the bass dropping in the background. Its just all weird and unfitting. I also want to talk about the ambiance in the begining of the game where Chris is searching for the deodorant can. In the original i felt so terrified while looking through the lodge. There were whispers and it was such an ominous vibe. The ambiance in the remake with that scene is so unscary compared to the orginal its almost laughable. I just end up forgeting im in a scarey game at all and start looking for all the clues during that time. Its not as immersive as the original. And then the sound effects! When matt had a flashack to mike and em i was litterally ctfu with how dramatic that flashback sound was compared to the actual situation. As the game kept going on, i felt more and more less immersed. Dont even get me started on how goofy that psycho punch sound effect was.
Again, it's self-important narcissistic people messing with other people's art. Refusing to stick to the source material because they think they know better. Basically the devs of the remake were telling us that they think the original devs made alot of mistakes, so they "fixed" them in the remake. This applies to every single remake they've done so that new players do not get the original experience. If they want to change to add anything in the game, it should be reserved for the second playthrough. Remakes should be a carbon copy of the originals with upgraded graphics, thats it. That's what we've always wanted. That's what I, a major Silent Hill fan, wanted. But no, we have to get some narcissist reimagination of someone else's art. They just always have to insert what they think the game should be. Rather than the ORIGINAL ARTIST of THEIR ART, THEIR BABY, THEIR EFFORTS. New devs have absolutely no respect for those that came before them. They just want to take, take, take and twist into their own interpretation. It's like some kid recreating the Mona Lisa out of macaroni art. Then the museum holding the original replaces it with the "remake" and shreds the original so only the macaroni remains.
sometimes i see the opposite, epic mickey rebrushed was done by a different team altogther and it's considered to be a superior version as it fixes the issues and major QOL that makes for a more refined experience even keeping the soundtrack (which some of it was bugged and was fixed not long after), then you have the ff7 remakes done by some of the same people but i have no idea if they actually wanted to make it as a remake or do something else because it's far from faithful at this point
I don’t think the devs even chose what they made, they likely got told to make an Until Dawn remake from execs who wanted to make money and did whatever they could, which wasn’t much since there wasn’t much that needed changing. I don’t think we can make any guesses on how they personally felt about working on it so characterizing all of them as egotistical and malicious is a little strange
Fixed camera angles in games are mostly about presentation rather than gameplay. That doesn’t mean it has NO impact on gameplay, but still. It’s why my mind is boggled that they would take a game with little to no gameplay at all and remove the main way it was presented
One thing I will say I like in the UDR is that unlike UDO is that in the remake is that you can save josh as in the og I always hated that ending were that he ether dies or becomes a windago but in the remake he can be saved so... That's one thing I'll say is better then the og
I was genuinely upset that the song "O Death" was stripped from the intro credits. I also feel like any of the native american details/undertones were completely ruined or removed.
for the soundtrack change they probably lost the licencing rights for the original soundtrack which is why they have the new one, it's a real shame though because it really does ruin the suspense of most of the scenes i do like the addition of the hunger totems though, the original didn't really make it too clear that hannah was turned into the wendigo (especially if you missed the diary and josh got killed) so I'm glad that they added it along with the extended intro because it really helps get connected to the group and especially the twins
The only thing I don't like about until dawn, is that the final act isn't as flexible. It only depend on two characters (Sam and Mike), and those two characters also can only die at the end, with one of them (Mike) even depend on the other to survive. If there's something to fix about Until Dawn is probably that, and maybe give Jess more scene to play, and then leave everything else alone.
They changed Chris death because people didn't understand it in the original game Abby was traumatized and just frozed out, it was not meant to be her having revenge on Chris but the modele made her seem like she didn't care or intentionally let him die
While I understand some of your points, others feel a little random or harsh on the newer game. For example, when you explained the new added scene with Ashley, I feel like you forgot to mention that for literally nine years the until dawn community was always under debate on whether or not Ashley hadn’t opened the door for Chris because she wanted revenge, or was in shock. This game finally answered the decade old question, showing Ashley in clear stress, too shocked by the previous events of the night to realize her boyfriend is about to get killed. I also feel a little bit conflicted on your statement with the new change of camera angle because it honestly feels like you didn’t even attempt to look up why they changed it? With the new added “areas” and new collectibles, the creators wanted to add a way to make it easier for the players to “treasure hunt”. It might make a little more sense because I can tell even by the tone in your voice you weren’t even really sure why they changed the camera angle, but making up details when your unsure of the solution isn’t a fair trade off. Finally, (I’m sorry for nagging) but you mentioned how you wished they’d just ported the old game onto PlayStation 5 instead of a full blown remake and made it a cheaper price but… you do know they literally did that, don’t you? With the release of the remake, supermassive also ported the original onto PS5 as an alternative to those who don’t want to spend the 60 bucks for the remake. Right now, you can still buy the original on ps5 for twenty bucks if that’s what you prefer. So while I agree this remake WAS unnecessary, some of your points were a little harsh and almost made you seem uneducated?
To me the remake felt a bit like the rerelease of the OG Star Wars triology, where they edited new things in. It's completely enjoyable on it's own but it's very clear it was made after the original and somehow feels specifically because they tried to improve it. Another example is the Ghost in the Shell 2.0 release. It just isn't the same and the original feels like it was made within it's own limits in mind, therefore coming up with creative solutions making it look the best, while the remake is not.
The way you were talking about how bad the soundtrack is now compared to the original..... Pretty much how Sonic Colors Remastered soundtrack track was butchered. And not only that, but just how the game looked. It doesn't even compare how great the original looks. Geez...
hello, i agree with your comment on the new soundtrack being poorer, but i believe there may have been some licensing issues with reclaiming some songs from a game that’s almost 10 years old
I honestly didn't notice, that they changed the soundtrack, but you putting them side-by-side proves your point, the original is soo much better, an absolute downgrade. Why did they do that?
i think what supermassive has forgotten is that until dawn was in development for so long while all their new games are rushed with so much left on the cutting room floor
Mate the remake was handled by some of the founders of Supermassive Games with their new Ballistic Moon studio Also Until Dawn started development back in 2008 as a PlayStation 3 move project which evolved over time until its actual release
I want to know how the meeting went where they decided to get rid of O'Death and what nonsense nat20 persuasion got pulled to have it be what they agreed on.
Another problem with the opening credits/song is that they put it after the first session with Dr. Hill, instead of after Hannah and Beth fall. Having "O Death" play while the players are processing what just happened does so much to set the tone and build hype for the rest of the game. Going from the fall to "you can't change what happened last year" kills the momentum.
The looks are worse too not going to lie look at the ending cutscene and the other scenes the remake looks so off putting and uncanny all the characters look wet and squishy
The major issues with this game are some of the new camera angles, the... odd lighting choices either washing out some scenes or making them much too dark. And for SURE the awful rescore. The perfect example you used in this video with mike chasing after jessica with strings going crazy and building tension but in the remake... its so quiet like mike isnt running for his girlfriends life
About the camera angles, I wanted to add that the fixed camera heavily added to the feeling of the characters being watched/stalked. A lot of them are set up as if we're the creature/"psycho killer" peeking at them from behind corners or trees and I love when horror media does that.
yeah omg wasn't there one shot where a spider crawls across the screen?
Absolutely this vibe is lost in the remake
Changing the wendigo screams is a crime. They were ear-deafening and it just added to the tension to have your eardrums destroyed.
Dude, when I heard the new scream, I was flabbergasted. How does something you fumble so hard.
I actually had to lower the volume of this video because the original screams were stressing me out so if that's not enough proof...
Not even until dawn can surpass until dawn 😂 the original is great! I just disliked the cheap unnecessary jump scares
I’m not typically a fan of jump scares but in this case I feel it made sense because the point is that it’s supposed to feel like a cheesy horror movie and those are chock full of em
I wouldn’t say their unnecessary but make the experience better cause it’s a slasher movie
Notice that they stop all those jumpscares past the first few chapters. Once the game gets serious, the goofy cheap jumpscares end completely.
Wish they kept the Chris,Sam and Jessica conversation, it would have gave Jessica some new content while also making the group of friends feel like friends, though they’re probably all just acquaintances in canon,I think some friendly interactions would help sell the fact their at least friendly with one another
Yeah it’s a bit sad that Jessica doesn’t really get any time with characters besides fighting with Emily, flirting or fighting with Mike depending what you choose, and then if she survives the few minutes she has at the end where she relies on Matt to keep her alive
Like- those are literally her only interactions I think 😂
Mike is the only character in this game I went from hating to loving. Dude became a badass
Fr he went from the typical douche of the group to like a mix of Nathan Drake and Leon Kennedy by the end🤣
Yup, he has the best character arc (redemption arc respectively).
Agreed! That was my first experience with this game and didn't pick it up till years later.
Miss SBFP.. pouring one out for my homies.
“We want the remake to have a unique identity, so we’re gonna make everything objectively worse”
been waiting for a video that goes into this level of detail on remake's issues! hard agree - and on top of the points you already made re: the over-the-shoulder camera, i'd add that the og fixed camera heightened the feeling of the characters being watched. which they literally ARE - by josh, by hannah, by flamethrower guy. that sense of 'someone is watching you right now, but you don't know it' was communicated so strongly through those camera angles, and it's totally lost now.
Also I don’t even get why the door is locked
there are wendigos outside. why would it not be locked?
@@itschris2628 it makes a lot of sense for people scared of what is outside to lock their doors.
don't know how that is somehow hard to understand.
instead of rescoring they shouldve gave jessica and matt there scenes.
FIXED. CAMERA. ANGLES. ARE. BETTER. FOR. HORROR. GAMES.
Ffs how is that so difficult to understand.
Yo different kinds of vids, we love to see it. I’m glad you’re expanding your channel and able to breathe and express your interests
Very well made. I agree with all of your points. I had a great time with the remake but it lacks the aura and identity that the original has
I pray that we get an update (paid or not) that allows us on console to restore the original score and sounds. Would be a dream come true ⏳
Thank you! And Exactly, I hope I didn't come across as too harsh because I did still enjoy playing the remake and enjoyed the story additions. But it definitely felt underwhelming in terms of the atmosphere when compared to the original version. Plus O'Death is just a classic, that new opening just don't hit the same 😭
im just glad they add a new ending where josh actually live
Halloween is over now and any motivation to play it as a new ps5 game is null but hopefully I get the motivation to play the original some day
I seem to remember being able to jog on PS4.
The forced walking in the remake is fuggin infuriating.
Why did they even bother remaking it in the first place?
Because Dark Pictures was going downhill and they needed to prove it's not the franchise, but the studio
@@Icon1306 the remake is not made by the same developers
Because a film is in the works, iirc

I feel like calling it a remake just didn't make sense.
Could have been a "director's cut" would be a nice pun too
@andrecunha4701 True
the thing is they didnt call it a remake, the media did.
@@ripewatermelonlol I like most of ur points but I'm pretty sure it says "remake" on the poster.
@@Comicbroe405 i checked and i don’t believe they say it even once, at least on the steam versuon
Little Hope has an equally amazing soundtrack
right, the music in all of them is so so good. i constantly catch myself listening to “weapons of mass destruction” from hoa, it’s so good and makes me feel like i’m in the shoot out😭
@kolcheks yeahh. I also love the music that played in Little Hope when you enter the bar to meet Vince for the first time
Wow! That’s so much worse. I’m so glad I only bought the old version. 50€ extra for a worse experience is insane!
Until Dawn was the last good experience made by supermassive
After that, not even they could make Until Dawn
thank you for mentioning them changing the og wendigo speech, that seriously pissed me off💔 WHY WOULD THEY DO THAT
The music/sound change is probably the worst part of the remake for me.
Just a weird thing but still bugs me to this day 😂
Nothing speaks to Until Dawn being lightning in a bottle more than the remake failing the capture the magic of the original
Yo master I would love to see a video ranking the main assassin robes.
I don´t think he will make any more assassin´s creed videos for a while, atleast when writing this.
He did a collab with another person on ac outfits ranking I think

Very interesting video. Watching it rn and the production quality feels so high, really entertaining. This might not cater to your audience but to me this comparison in particular is very interesting. All the best, but please keep making new stuff on games that peaks your interest
Why can’t remakes of MASTERPIECES just be a RE-make, give it the stunning graphics and give it simple changes to the story and that’s it. The remake LOOKS way better, but the hue maks it WAY less creepy.
Well, I'm not playing the remake
This is a new chapter!
Keep going and good luck ❤
the over the shoulder camera is so awful jesus
Watching this felt like a cruel joke.
I feel like the facial expressions in the ending confessionals are worse.
After literal years of being only casually interested, this video has now made me much more intent on playing the OG version.
Happy to see you are taking breaks from AC 😄
its Good day indeed.....thank you for posting bro i'm here for this era😤
The "rookies and interns" devs are literally the same people that founded Supermassive Games as well as created Until Dawn...
This remake just shows how lazy devs have gotten. This is pretty much Gus Van Sants Psycho but for video games. Unnecessary and redundant...
You’re a legend MA!
You encourage me to step out of my comfort zone as well.
this is so funny because read it as if you were calling master assassin ma like mother

You always surprise me with the quality of your videos even if it is not ac focused. Keep up the great work we all cheer for you. ❤
The old sound track sounds like something from Star Wars
Sounds like you need to listen to Star Wars again. They're nothing alike.
Nice to see you branch out. Nice to hear about other games you have a passion about
the music and sound effects change is so devastating it hurts we can’t have the new graphics AND the incredible sound design of the first game. really shows how sound is everything in horror
I love that you’re not only talking about Assassins Creed! i’m gonna watch you’re channel a lot more now! :)
Getting rid of jason graves ost is such a crime, he is a legendary composer
The new chapter of master assassin begins let’s go
This game reminds me of the "live or die" special feature on the Final Destination 3 DVD.
Nah keep Ashley a terrible person. It's her only interesting character trait.
I don’t think we can make any guesses on how they personally felt about working on it so characterizing all of them as egotistical and malicious is a little strange
you're delusional. Remake was 10 times better than the original, the vision of remake was better
Fixed camera angles in games are mostly about presentation rather than gameplay. That doesn’t mean it has NO impact on gameplay, but still. It’s why my mind is boggled that they would take a game with little to no gameplay at all and remove the main way it was presented
o death is great but i liked the new more probably because ive watched so many playthroughs that i got bored of it
One thing I will say I like in the UDR is that unlike UDO is that in the remake is that you can save josh as in the og I always hated that ending were that he ether dies or becomes a windago but in the remake he can be saved so... That's one thing I'll say is better then the og
I was genuinely upset that the song "O Death" was stripped from the intro credits. I also feel like any of the native american details/undertones were completely ruined or removed.
for the soundtrack change they probably lost the licencing rights for the original soundtrack which is why they have the new one, it's a real shame though because it really does ruin the suspense of most of the scenes
i do like the addition of the hunger totems though, the original didn't really make it too clear that hannah was turned into the wendigo (especially if you missed the diary and josh got killed) so I'm glad that they added it along with the extended intro because it really helps get connected to the group and especially the twins
They shouldn’t baby sit you through the story through you should find it out yourself
They changed Chris death because people didn't understand it in the original game
Abby was traumatized and just frozed out, it was not meant to be her having revenge on Chris but the modele made her seem like she didn't care or intentionally let him die
What if you never played the original? I want to play this game but I’m too lazy to link my PSN account
I still find the version of "oh death" the had on the show Supernatural was the best version of that song. Literal chills every time I hear it.
It has its moments, but i totally agree.
Nice to see something different.
11:48 no way they butchered the final scene
love seeing a different type of video, this is such a great deep dive man!
Original > Remake
The way you were talking about how bad the soundtrack is now compared to the original..... Pretty much how Sonic Colors Remastered soundtrack track was butchered.
And not only that, but just how the game looked. It doesn't even compare how great the original looks. Geez...
17:39 been fighting the flu for a week, but damn this cracked me up so much lol. Funniest thing I've seen in a bit.
hello, i agree with your comment on the new soundtrack being poorer, but i believe there may have been some licensing issues with reclaiming some songs from a game that’s almost 10 years old
I have a steelbook and everything for Until Dawn and still haven't played it, might have to play it
I honestly didn't notice, that they changed the soundtrack, but you putting them side-by-side proves your point, the original is soo much better, an absolute downgrade. Why did they do that?
This game is criminally underconsidered
Criminally underunconsideraterateded
criminimally underconsiderateratededated
Criminally yunconsideratedateded
New video essay term just dropped
i think what supermassive has forgotten is that until dawn was in development for so long while all their new games are rushed with so much left on the cutting room floor
Mate the remake was handled by some of the founders of Supermassive Games with their new Ballistic Moon studio
Also Until Dawn started development back in 2008 as a PlayStation 3 move project which evolved over time until its actual release
Really enjoy these style of videos, keep it up!
Still the OG version is looking great after 9 years, they shouldnt have release remake for this one but thats Sony for you.
Awesome video Master💯🔝
Yeah the intro change was unforgivable
They fumbled the bag with this ‘Remake’
Just the music for me. Everything else is the same only looks better.
The perfect example you used in this video with mike chasing after jessica with strings going crazy and building tension but in the remake... its so quiet like mike isnt running for his girlfriends life
The only remake I can think of that isn't inferior to its original version is RE1 remake.
