  • Let’s talk about my recent weight loss… not the first time I’ve lost and gained (and lost) weight on this channel - but the first time I’ve got the help of a drug to do it. Here’s my experience so far after 4 months taking semaglutide (the compounded version of drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy).

    Compounded semaglutide is not without its risks. It is not FDA approved, and in fact, the FDA has warned about shady pharmacies taking shortcuts in production. "Patients should be aware that some products sold as 'semaglutide' may not contain the same active ingredient as FDA-approved semaglutide products and may be the salt formulations. Products containing these salts, such as semaglutide sodium and semaglutide acetate, have not been shown to be safe and effective."

    I'm on Mounjaro for my diabetes. My A1c went from 12.3 to 4.7. I've also lost 89 lbs. The freedom from the constant thoughts of food and the ability to do physical things that I couldn't before is such a relief.

      So true! My blood lab results are absolutely PERFECT, including my blood pressure and my cholesterol. I'm 49 yo.
      I walk everywhere, hate fast food (the smell🤮), used to ran marathons in my 30s. And yes, I'm overweight.
      My wonderful and beautiful friend eats like two young men, hates to walk and she's struggling with being too thin.
      We all are so different indeed.

  • @MonicaLeiton

    You described that so well I went through gastric bypass 12 years ago and that part of my brain is still not off, the one thing that bothers me is that most people don't understand being overweight your whole life is because you have a problem in your brain... eating when you dont feel hunger and just exactly like you said! After watching an ad. I have come to name it as a food addiction, you just cant stop eating or just eat like a normal person. Congrats on your improved health and weight loss!

    • @tiffanyhanson3701
      @tiffanyhanson3701 Месяц назад +3

      Another thing people don’t understand is that one person with food noise may only be eating the equivalent of 100 more calories than a thin person, or perhaps even 100 less calories than that thin person. But 90% of those thin people feel superior to the person that is struggling.

    I’m on it too! My doctor put me on it! I lost 38 lbs in about 7 months. So I’m at 199 pounds. I was so thrilled to finally reach 199! I’m diabetic too. It’s helped enormously with keeping my sugars stable. It keeps me from feeling hungry all the time. You explained it very well the way our brain works without the med and with the med! Exactly how it is with me too!

    • @goow
      @goow  Месяц назад +3

    Okay, hard truth time. Type II, high bp, high resting pulse rate, arthritic knees, herniated discs, degenerative changes that are happening way too fast in my spine and I have to have nerves treated with electricity, radio ablation, so it kills the nerve and gives me about 8 months without such heinous amounts of pain that I cannot sit/stand/lay down to sleep/be comfortable in ANY position for years.
    I began Ozempic and lost nearly 90 lbs in a year, I have lost another 37 pounds since January and am now not taking any diabetic meds, no more blood pressure meds, better resting pulse, better moving, better all over. It has been an invaluable tool in letting me work at this and letting me be stronger when it comes to the food grazing and emotional eating I had been doing for years.
    Some do not do well on these types of meds but I have been one of the very lucky ones and have been successful in loosing without rebounding like I did with every other 'diet' I had tried since I was a teenager.
    Glad you are having good results too and I hope you are able to continue the therapy that has worked for you!

    This made me cry. I’m so happy for you! I had a brother who suffered from weight issues and food noise his entire life. Ultimately leading to diabetes, many other health issues and eventually losing his ability to walk. His weight was so high he could no longer walk and was bed ridden and eventually lost his life to a stroke. These medications were NEVER offered to him! I’m so pissed and sad because it never should have ended that way for him. He lived for food because he couldn’t stop the noise. Even his vacations revolved around where he was going to eat. I miss my broth but so damn happy for you!!!! Our healthcare system sucks!

    I have been on Wegovey for a month and a half. I have lost 20 lbs and have had no side effects. I really was getting worried at first about getting adequate nutrition but I’ve been able to focus on protein and eliminate fast and processed foods. This is the best thing that happened for my health. I have nothing bad to say about it. I want to lose 40 more pounds that I just have not been able to do on willpower alone. I too, am sick of the yo-yo dieting and the uncontrollable gluttony. Thank God for this drug.

    Thank you for being so candid and explaining everything so well. You look great and keep at it. I am 63 and was on Ozempic for about 8 months. Lost 20 lbs and wondered why not more. I was pre diabetic when prescribed hoping it would lower my A1C. It never did. Everyone is different for sure. It wasn't until the last two months, I was very much worried about some pains I had on the left side of my stomach that would stick around. I decided then, nope, not going to continue. There is a risk for Pancreatitis and was very fearful of that. Keep in touch with your body, it will tell you things you've maybe never heard before. As far as my weight loss, well it's just about back with exception of about 8 lbs. But, I've not been very good at watching what I eat. Keep going and thanks again for putting yourself out there, it's brace and I honor you for that.

Down 45 pounds , I am liking my body for the first time in years. Like you, I prioritize being healthy the most. As I told a friend recently, "if not now, when?" My brain isn't my problem, my problem is a debilitating fatigue that is part of having MS. I've been fighting with my insurance company for almost 5 years because they will not cover 2 drugs that are options I would like to TRY to see if they would work but I don't meet the "criteria" for coverage. I understand your irritation/anger with they whole system. I share your bafflement about why I'm not allowed to try a drug to PREVENT ever meeting the criteria that would qualify me for the drug. Congrats on taking the risk, the weight loss, and being proactive about your health and preventing major health issues.

Addiction is an entirely different animal and must be approached differently. Your current treatment is treating the addict in you and that's why it's working for you. I'm so happy you have found it. Shelly that was an amazing video and I learned so much and appreciate you going into so much depth and your struggles over the years. I don’t know if it’s still a thing but you used to be able to appeal an insurance company’s denial of an Rx and you may want to try that as you’ve got the words and passion to make a good case for yourself. Please keep us informed as you go through this process.

    thank you so much for sharing your story. I cried watching this because I’ve been there. I’ve lost 30+ pounds multiple times throughout my adulthood, but it’s not sustainable. And people would tell me that I did it once so I could do it again, but they don’t understand the struggle. so, thank you! ❤

    Oh Shelly, I’m so happy for you!! I can see what this means to you. I too have been on a rollercoaster with my weight all my life, and have a Mom which has much to say about it. 😢 I don’t know that I would be a candidate at all, but I sure understand the constant connection with food and have struggled on and off over the years. I do know that when I’m thinner, eat healthier and am more active, I’m truly happier and feel so good. Why can’t I remember that feeling and not gain it back? Looking forward to updates. I hope all goes the way you want it to, with the drug being available and the FDA leaving things as is indefinitely. 😊

    Shelly, you're awesome! I started zepbound for the sane reasons - I'm currently healthy and want to prevent those health-related issues as I age. But, listening to you talk about joint pain, that can also be a sign of declining hormones as we approach menopause, so make sure you're replacing what you've lost as you enter menopause. I follow Angie Hot and Flashy and Menopause Taylor, in addition to others, and I'm learning a ton about how to protect my health during and after menopause. ❤

    Thank you for all of your wonderful research! Most appreciated. I lost weight several years back and it came off quick with keto/carnivore and fasting. But truthfully couldn’t get below 150 pounds. So I tried harder and exercised no luck!! So I started Semiglutide this past week and dropped 4 pounds, no struggle and only side effect was fatigue and had to nap. I feel encouraged again! I do pay myself like you it would be pointless with insurance. So thanks again and will subscribe to your channel

    I just came across your video. I started my Wegovy injections today. I’ve had all sort of hiccups along the road when it comes to my weight. In 2016 I had RNY, which I lost 171 pounds and regained all the weight back plus more. My dad passed when Covid was at its worst. That didn’t help. I feel horrible and will give this a try because I have a family to look out for and want to be here to see them grow. My biggest problem has been Starbucks. I hope you keep updating us. I really want to see your progress 🥰♥️

I'm happy that semaglutide is working for you and that your food noise is now quiet... what a win!! It's so emotionally taxing when the food noise is constant. I want to say hang in there, I'm also over 40 and I've lost a little over 60 pounds. Thank you for sharing. The food noise is real and it's weird for me to say no I don't want that cookie or constantly think what my next meal will be or plan my entire day around food. It has helped me so much. I hate that I submit a refill 2 weeks in advance because it's always on back order. This last time I had to travel an hour to find a pharmacy with it in stock.

    Hi Shelly. Congratulations. I'm so happy for you finding this drug that works for you.
    I feel and hear your frustration with insurance companies. Like you, don't get me started.
    Thankfully, you were lucky enough to find a dr willing to help you. And I know you'd do your research to find the best way to obtain the drug. You have such a wonderful, positive attitude.
    I'm glad that it's turned down the food noises in your head.

    I'm so happy that this is helping you. I went on it for 3 months through a weightloss clinic and unfortunately had a rough time. I was nauseous almost all the time. Couldn't eat much or it would come back up. And in the end I got diverticulitis and had to stop. But I had absolutely no hunger and the physical weakness that went along with that. I've been thinking about trying again and just staying on a very low dose instead of titrating up.

    • @goow
      @goow  Месяц назад +1

      My provider told me to pay attention throughout because I might not need to get all the way to the full therapeutic dose, and that some people can top out somewhere in the middle and that's all they need. Definitely talk to your provider about that - it could be that you don't need as much.

    I didn’t know what food noise was until my cardiologist prescribed Monjouro and 🤯 I used to binge eat all throughout the night. It took some time ( because it takes time to change habits) but that completely went away. I never thought I’d see the night where I wasn’t going to bed with a nightstand full of snacks.

      I think my main doc would have told me if she could have sent me straight to a compounding pharmacy (I cleared where I'm going and what I'm taking with her even though she didn't prescribe it) but I am going to directly ask about that option when I go back for my next work-up in August. I would imagine if it is possible, it would be less expensive than going through an intermediary.
