Mate you’re a legend every other person confuses the crap out of it! That’s all I need to know for my sounder!
Thank you Paul!!! I really appreciate that brother! 🙏🙏
In general, the TI units are faster in response to inputs. This is seen when quickly switching between sonar, downscan, chart, and split screens ruclips.net/user/postUgkxeAxH15LxhjGlg5-CRYqjTGTEH0tbY4vk recommend The Hook units will show some lag on button pushes and screen switching. The big ticket item though is maps. If you install a mapping card such as Navionics or the free C-Map Genesis which has a lot of map detail, then moving around the map with the cursor or when running down the lake can lag significantly on the Hook units, but is seamless with the TI units.
Thanks for the tips capt!!
Thanks Mike super helpful as always.
Another great video! 👍
My husband loved this video! hi noise rejection was on and now he has the view he wanted.
Awesome!! I love hearing that Kristy!!! Thanks 🙏
I hit like before you posted this. Thank you, And thanks mike for not interrupting this tutorial.

Does the bottom color change from a hard or soft bottom. Another good video!
Lol.. hey kids...We need more videos like this brother..

Ha. Will do brother!! 👍👍
Thanks brah!! 😁👍
Hey mike, great video. I'm having issues with my simrad go xse. The water temp is always reading wrong temp. It goes up to 999 degrees at times. I have the triple shot transducer and followed your instructions to get it dialed in. Idk what else to do
Can you catch striper during summer months in lakes? I’m on Lake Hickory in NC.
What transducer are you using during this video ? Thanks.
I have a go9 do i have to reset everything each time time i turn boat power off .?? I remove unit from boat ..
Mike, Another great video!!! How do you change the frequency to the way you have it? I only have one transducer and I have 10 frequency's showing?
First we need to figure what transducer you have connected. If it’s a 3 in 1 it’s called an X ducer so you won’t have to manually punch in a model number. It’s automatic. On the echo installation page the transducer box will say the model. If you are seeing many frequencies the display doesn’t know what is connected and selected a generic model. It probably isn’t performing as well as it could in that case. If you DO have a 3 in 1 transducer and it still says generic you need to do a software update. That usually fixes it. 👍
@@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS Thank you for getting back to me, I have a Navico Active imaging 3 in 1 transducer. I don't see it in the list, but there is grayed out one that says "AI 3 in 1", not sure if that is the right setting. I did do a software update and no change. I also notice that I have no source button on the side menu. As a last resort is there a way to reset the unit to factory defaults? Thanks again for your help.
FIRST!!!!
👍👍😁
Thanks captain Mike. One question, I have come from a furuno 588 to an evo3 S. am I able to bottom lock on the Simrad? Use to only look at the bottom 20m on the furuno when bottom fishing. Cheers Cap.
Sure! You can select any band of water to be shown. Just turn the knob to the right. Or you can split sonar and select different bands on each. 👍👍👍
My ff shows a fish stacked on top of one another but get bigger the lower it goes. It’s like the same fish but reflections of it. They’re stacked on top of one another. I’m not sure why

Hi Mike I fish the Atlantic City reef down to the Cape May reef in your opinion what model Sim rad would be best for me to see the structure would you please let me know thank you keep up the great view thank
The best of the best is the Evo3 S paired with an active Imaging transducer. If that’s not in your budget this is a fine unit complete with the same transducer . amzn.to/3zY97cS They both show structure beautifully.
Question do striper bass go in the rivers in june ? Why Is it cause of the its too hot or something else
( South jesery )
Yep. They move way up rivers and shallow to spawn. They move down and out when they finish spawning as water gets too warm for them.
What made you choose a Simrad unit over any of the other top three .
I was a beta tester for Northstar before they became the new relaunched Simrad many years ago. I got to use lots of pre-production units. I got lucky. I didn’t realize HOW lucky until I tried a few other brands for some videos. Simrad’s high end units are amazing in every category. Their low end stuff is crazy-good too. It’s nuts to see what you get for $600 compared to just 10 years ago. I catch lots of fish because of Simrad.
Good quick info. Did I miss the transducer info? I know you got distracted by a hookup. You had it on high I think.
Yep. I had it on high CHIRP, but I didn’t want to get too specific on frequencies because there are so many transducer options nowadays. (I was running a HIGH wide in this video). These settings are all the same regardless of transducers. I mostly only change frequencies for different depth ranges but I will have more options than most. I’ll post a follow up on choosing frequencies 👍thanks for the idea 😉
@@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS looking forward to the video on choosing frequencies!
Yes sir!! I put it on my list because of your request!! It’s a great request!!! Thanks brother!! 👍👍
Hey Mike , my transducer does exactly what you said around 2:30. Temp is out of Wack and says high chirp , low Chirp, med, etc.. any ideas on how to fix this?
Go to your echo installation page in the system menu. There is a box for the transducer model. If you have an Xducer it will auto fill the box with a grey number. If it’s not grey you need to select the transducer you are using. Model number will be on the transducer cable where it plugs into display.
We have 2018 evo3. We bought a 3D Transducer like you demo’s before. It has side scan but do NOT see Chirp on the screen. Only options are “this unit” or 3 D. Can we add another with HD side scan and Chirp?
Sure. Use this exact model transducer to add to your Evo3. It has side and down scan and high and med CHIRP. amzn.to/2Tm3Ngw

@@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS Thank you , I appreciate that. Is there any issues of Transducer locations I.e. side by side? Or remove my 3 d and put this in it’s place? After having 3D and seeing 3in 1 screens. Definitely prefer 3in1. Starting some ocean fishing.
@@klawrence738 every boat is different, but I have no issues with multiple transducers. I prefer the active imaging 3 in 1 side scan over the 3D, but the 3D side scan is still excellent. The reason I say to get that exact model is because there is a Total scan 3 in 1 that you don’t want over the Active imaging.
@@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS yes if I simply replace the 3D with 3-1 I should be jammin. With both there would be redundancy Thanks again! Great vids man. I don’t know what to say about our Chesapeake Bay man . Your on huge fish all the time in NJ regularly. I have maybe 2 times saw screens like you get over a 6 year boating here. Lmao your area seems to have more bunker. This VA Fish Oil plant is getting all of ours. Or so it seems. Have a great weekend
So how wide will a traditional transducer pickup fish? Like i have a airmar b60, lets say 60 ft and fish are at 30 how far from the side of the boat will it pick fish up?
Not very far to the side really. the B60 comes in several frequencies. Yours could be either 50 or 200 kHz. In 50khz it would be a 24’ diameter circle on the bottom in 30’ or a 6’ diameter circle on the bottom in 200khz. Here is the Airmar bottom calculator. www.airmar.com/bottom-calculator.html
@@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS thankyou so much for the response, i do have one mor question if you dont mind, it seems like i cant clear up the top 30ft of water on my mew carbon, i have a picture but cant upload it in the comments
@@finnsnracks2085 no problem. Send me an email. Mikesmedley9@gmail.com
Do you usually troll at 3.5 mph? My brother-in-law thinks .8 is good on Lake Murray with live bait.
With live bait I pull slow. 0-1.5 but .8 is a good medium.

Hey Mike great videos! I have a question about my Simrad Evo 2 and what I’m seeing from fish markers. Is there a way I can send you a picture of what I’m seeing to get your take on it?
Absolutely. 👍Mikesmedley9@gmail.com
@@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS Sent it to you. Let me know what you think.
Do it for side scan
Here ya go. ruclips.net/video/BoLNXyuEilQ/видео.html
@@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS thanks lol. Can I send you picture of my evo3 screen and what I'm seeing? Maybe you can explain what is wrong with my TotalScan transducer. Do you have email or cell number?
Sure. Mikesmedley9@gmail.com
Why don't you increase the scroll speed when traveling at 20-30 MPH? This will make your light bulbs look a little bigger and not miss some schools of fish while on plane.
I increase over deeper water, but in water less than 40ft your returns get flattened way out with higher scroll speed. Every time you slow down you would have to decrease it again to see detail.
@@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS makes sense. I fish for tuna in So Cal and I set the bottom of my graph to 300 feet. I’ll try slowing down when I mark light bulbs and see what they look like.
Mike - what scroll speed would you set at depths between 40-87 feet deep?
@@Camh1968 i would bump it up 1 unless you are running on plane, then go up 2 or 3. Just keep in mind that fish will look very different. Arches will be flatter the higher the scroll speed.
@@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS many thanks Mike
