Yes I wholly agree with you on basically just upgrading the ram. For the fast charging, you can use existing GAN charger if already have one. Save the money and upgrade in the next 3 to 5 years instead of falling for the “future-proofing” thing.

Just got the base model with 256 ssd. Honestly this thing is so expensive if you just plan on using it for internet browsing, video watching, and light video editing. If you plan on specking this thing out you might as well go with the higher-end pro models for medium to heavy usage. The whole point of the Air to begin with was to have an inexpensive laptop that can get your basic necessities done. That $150-$200 Apple tax on top of the price is just killer, even for the base model.

I already have a higher spec'd MacBook M1 Pro 16" and I was looking for ultimate portability for when that thing was just too burdensome to bring with. I ended up ordering a M2 Air with 8 core, 16GB ram, 512GB hard drive space. I think that is a perfect setup for my needs and gives me some peace of mind on both internal storage and longer term memory/multitasking use. I probably could have gotten a 14 MBP for about the same price (with current sales) but it's still too heavy for what I wanted to have. If I didn't have the 16" I probably would have gotten the 14" pro. Not sure. But I'm happy with the MBA!

@@bff4901 I've had my 13.6 M2 MacBook Air now for just over 5 weeks with those specs. So far no over heating, but then I'm not doing video editing yet. You will love it, very lightweight and. user friendly. Holds a charge like crazy, and my friend got me the 67 w fast charger, so 30 minutes it's done. After my Mac class at Soho Apple Store in NYC, I put the Air in my crossbody laptop briefcase. I was able to walk around NYC without any strain on my shoulders. My friend/lawyer got it for me from B&H Photo, they have good deals. Good idea to stick with the 8 core GPU, as allot of tech guys on here said not much difference with 10.

I got the 13.6 M2 MacBook Air with 16 gigs of ram memory, and 512 SSD storage but, kept the 8 core GPU. I've had mine now for just over 5 weeks and love it, very user friendly. I'm a longtime Windows desktop user since 1999 with Windows 98. My last Dell desktop, had Windows 7 Pro with 2T hard drive cause I had a website, building my own webpages. After my Dell died, barely two years, and Windows screen kept on going out, I gave up on Windows. This is my first laptop, and I love that I'm not tide to a desk. I can sit in my couch with legs up on chaise, with laptop on my lap. The 13.6 Air is perfect for students, and teachers lugging a laptop back and fourth to school, very lightweight and portable. I'm now an official Apple convert with iPhone 13 Pro, and M2 MacBook Air. Soho Apple Store in NYC helped me set up my Mac, and sinked it with my phone. I checked out the 15 inch Air while I was there, was not impressed. Screen resolution was not much better than the 13.6 Air. I had them put Beach Boys "Wouldn't It Be Nice" so I could check sound. Was louder, but not any better than the 13.6 Air. For future proofing, I recommend you upgrade to 16 gigs of ram, and 512 SSD storage, but that is just my opinion.

Leaving SSD with 256 GB on the MacBook Air? The worst decision you can make. 512 GB has 2 memory controllers, which makes your laptop way faster. For many tasks you can actually beat the M3 Pro base model when taking the Air with 512 GB SSD and 16 GB or 24 GB RAM.

You did not say anything about the spinning wheel which blocks the macbook air m2 sometimes with just 4 word files open or just after trying to save a file. The fact that the 2 128 chips of ssd were replaced by 1 256 chip. The fact that the mac does nog have a fan which might slow it down and might be responsible for the spinning wheel

or, on top of what Aaryan said, just go for M1 as from what you say about your needs it will be more then enough. M2 256gb option has crippled memory processing so you get much slower speed transfer when you copy files.

For this one I’d say ram is the main thing to get due to how the new macs utilize the ssd for swap so heavily. But also getting at least the 512gb configuration so you get dual nand packages for the full bandwidth and greater longevity.
My sister is getting one with most likely 24gb of ram and 512gb of storage and most likely the 10core GPU. Instead of opting for the 2TB ssd she’s going to use that price gap towards at least a 16TB NAS with some NVME cache. And that leave a few more bays for 64TB later on.

Great video, but still does not relate to the majority of user who uses MBA. The title to this video does very little to answer the question. I am more interested in seeing a comparison between a 16GB/256 vs 8GB/512 with the SSD full to almost 256 (bc I believe 256 is not much), multiple google chrome tabs open, couple apps open, to make the best comparison whether its better to make a choice to upgrade between 16GB or 512 SSD for the everyday user who rarely uses coding, graphics, etc. I actually just got my new M2 Macbook Air and used apple migration from my M1 to my M2. My original M1 had 8gb/256 with 176gb used and 80gb free but once transferred using migration my new M2 had 250gb of used memory which mean if I got the M2 16/256 I would have no room to add addition storage. Do you think its better to upgrade to 512gb memory first if on a budget than the 16GB ram?

You never know how many photos or videos you will want to store, or folders. You can use up storage pretty fast with photos. I'm starting from scratch with photos from my iPhone 13 Pro, and I like to take allot of photos in NYC.

Amazon was selling this at $1,799 which is not that much more that the new M2 MBA (16g/512gb configs). The MBP comes with the same 1080p camera, a bigger and better display, an HDMI port, more cores and gpu, and no known overheating issues that the m2 has so far been reporting at least with the newly released M2 MBP 13”.

The M2 Air doesn’t have overheating issues, it’s much lighter, less bulky and better battery compared with the 14 Pro (I own both laptops) They offer very different things and just because you can get them both at a similar price depending on spec, if you don’t want a heavy, bulky laptop then it’s not a simple case of going for the 14 Pro because it is heavy and bulky compared to the M2 Air.

Worst advice ever. Firstly on this particular air the better option is the 10 core. Simply because it has 2x256gb SSD vs a single 256gb for the base. In terms of read/write performance this is twice as good. So I would upgrade this as opposed to RAM, despite what historically RAM upgrade is the best thing. Also minimum 1tb SSD is such bad advice, do you know how much the laptop costs for that option? Just get an external SSD.
There IS only one model worth getting for the m2 Air and that is the 512gb 10 core GPU. Everything else is overpriced or underperforming.
The 256 gb is by far the worst option. The other annoying thing about this laptop is the MagSafe is too strong for a light laptop. It literally doesn’t do what it’s supposed to do and that is disconnect. Instead that laptop is going to fall.

      Need an M2 Air to replace my 2016 mbp (i5 8gb 256ssd)
I think I’ll take the 24gb and 1To in silver.
I need lot of ram for multiple app env running in same time (nodejs/angular).

@@JATCHOYT yes, maybe i’ll waiting for the m2 pro but the 14 mbp m1 pro 10c with 32go ram and 1To cost 2900$ instead of 2000$ for the air m2 (see in Benchmark that m2 is also close to m1 pro 8c)
The Air is also more slim and compact

@@MadinSquaD you’re the only commenter so far that’s made this point, and it’s a good one. I was also spec’ing the MacBook Air m2 with the 10 core gpu, 1TB and 24gb of ram. After the education discount and tax it came to $2112.00 OTD. The base 14 Mac Pro doesn’t have a 24gb ram option so you have to jump to 32gb from the 16GB option and yes indeed it moves closer to the 3k mark. So you are saving $800.00 by going with a well spec’ed air instead of a similarly spec’d base m1 pro.

@@scornbro112 if following your logic it would be dishonest to provide buyers guide with no real experience with discussed product.
From technical perspective it would be at least fair to mention a single processor on a hard drive for a basic m2 air model and what it means for a buyer.
