Back In The Seat Of A Backhoe...Been A Long Time!😲

- Helping a buddy out by back filling an electric ditch that he dug. It's been a while since I've worked a backhoe, loaded a few trucks with one, but not actually working it. It came back pretty fast with the exception of the backhoe part. It's a three lever foot swing machine which aren't easy to operate unless you have a lot of seat time in one. They're just a creature of their own so it's just awkward. I started doing better after a couple hours.
I used to operate an old 4 stick Ford backhoe when I first started in the excavation business, but I've never operated those Case controls. I bet that would be comical to try for me. You did good.
They are a different critter for sure! It's always comical when I first try to operate the case controls. It takes me a while to (kinda) get used to them. Thanks buddy!
Great video Sir, !! You are speaking my language when you are on a 3 stick foot swing CASE backhoe! That Super M is a little nicer than my L but almost the same machine. It's funny how all operaters are different, I grew up on 3 stick, but doesn't bother me a bit to hop off of it on to another backhoe with wobble sticks or a excavator, but put me on a John Deere control backhoe and its another monkey humping a football situation like you said. Have been around a few operators that were almost the exact opposite. A good friend of mine who is a excellent operator can run almost anything but can't hit the ground with my backhoe or run a dozer with a accelerator instead of a decelerator. Looks like you done a fine job to me!
lol, yeah it’s all about muscle memory and how your brain is programmed. If I spend a few hours on a backhoe with case controls I can start to get better. But, still not as smooth as wobble sticks or pilot controls. Thanks Dave!
Great job Larry. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks Brent!
You did a pretty good job for being a case control lol great video buddy 👍
lol, thank’s Willard!
Did he say monkey and football in the same sentence, 😮😊 this is going to be interesting, usually when I’ve run a backhoe its more akin to hot air balloon and a monkey, 😂😂😂😂😂, so you are doing great as far as I’m concerned young man. Nice job, thanks for the video, enjoyed watching.
Lol! Thanks Terry! Lots of hours in a backhoe just not with those crazy case controls.
Never ran one and refused to. I worked with guys years ago in the late 60’s and early 70’s and that’s all we had around. They were use to them and ran them like old pro’s but I wouldn’t run that back end just the front. I don’t like skid steers with foot and hand controls either. They can keep-‘em.
Lol, yeah I'm with ya on that. I ran a Bobcat with foot controls and it was a mess! Thanks buddy!
Just came across your channel mate. Love your content, great operator. Love the Cat 953. Something about a track loader with a 4 in 1 gets me excited haha.
Alex
Hey Alex, appreciate that! Yep, loaders are hard to beat. Thanks!
Always helping a buddy (who surely will help YOU one day) QUESTION: No laying a ribbon in the hole for phone - not hazard enough like GAS & POWER - just wondering - THANKS! Still a place for the BACKHOE (my wife used to call a 'hoppy toad') *NOTHING HILLARIIOUS in getting DONE what you set out TO DO* To laugh is a FOOL!
Yes, sometimes we do. That was a short run through the woods so not much chance of it getting dug up. Thanks Sonny!
I am surprised that those big rocks they would allow you to backfill with those without breaking the electrical cable.
If it wasn’t in a super thick conduit they wouldn’t.
👍🙂
👍
Aren't backhoes with foot swing fun?😁I finally ordered pilots on my SN580 WT, and I'm never going back to 4 sticks or wobbles. Less operator fatigue and I think a better rate of production. I'm gonna bet that if I hopped into a foot swing machine I would be way worse than you were, it's been a minute, or two.
lol! The foot swing is definitely an acquired taste. On a backhoe I’m ok with wobble sticks but pilots are nice for sure. The 580SL I had was originally foot swing but I had them convert it to wobble sticks. Thanks buddy!
