    Metalworks 101….take any piece of metal and flex it back and forth over and over. What happens? It weakens and eventually will break. Often times depending on how much it’s bent, it will heat up. That heat lines up the molecular structure in metal and weakens it even faster. Now, take spring steel that has been formed into a coil spring. Now compress it and leave it there. Does the metal weaken? Not just from sitting compressed. Flexing weakens metal. Not compressing it. Continually loading and unloading magazines weakens the springs much much faster. So load up your mags and leave them alone. You’ll be dead before any significant weakening of the springs happen. Class dismissed.

      Not necessarily. Springs are metal and susceptible to corrosion. Milsurp magazines are notorious for pitting and rust in springs.

    • @SnD340
      @SnD340 6 месяцев назад

      @@albundy7459these are not milsurp mag. Those magazines are also only worn out because they are left to rot. Pitting and rusting is completely different from leaving a loaded magazine w compressed spring

    I carried a 5 different semi automatic pistols as an LEO for thirty years. I never unloaded my mags unless I shot them empty in training. I also never had a magazine fail when firing. I have seen older two piece Sig Sauer mags split along the welded seam along the back. .

    Great info….. with so many shooters utilizing dry-fire to minimize limited or expensive ammunition I’m assuming the 5,000 round count for recoil springs is still appropriate? I typically dry-fire 500-1,000 laser shots per week between 3-4 guns and was wondering if racking the slide back to activate the trigger is wearing down the recoil springs as hard as shooting range ammunition each week? I typically run a 10-1 ration of dry-fire to actual range ammunition for recoil management and training drills. Thanks - enjoy your videos and your guns🤠

    Does dry fire contribute to the 5000 round suggested replacement schedule for recoil springs?

    Are you really sure you can’t pull out (say non captured recoil) springs? I’ve always heard you shouldn’t, but I’ve done it a number of times and it seems to work very well, at least for a while. I’d like to see some testing or at least a metallurgist speak to this.

    Speaking of spring. A spring broke on my CR920P slide release lever and Shadow Systems sent me a replacement part that I installed. I noticed that I can now close the slide with my right hand thumb - something I couldn't do with the one that shipped with the gun. I asked a question about it to SS Tech support and wanted to know if the part dimensions changed. Their response was to sent them a picture of the broken and new part. WTF? SS Tech Support should have a part change history at their finger tips! I am asking because I also have a CR920 that I would replace the Slide Release Lever on if it would allow me close the slide with my thumb. I love the guns, they require more cleaning than Glocks, but shoot a lot better.

It’s fine to keep magazines loaded FOREVER! But I guess you new kids don’t know this siht and feel compelled to bring up a worthless topic from the grave.
