Yeap! You don't see to many CEO making their own RUclips videos. I love that. That why this type of stuff is one out of MANY reasons why I bought myself a shadow systems pistol.
I have experienced what you said about the Critical Defense/ Duty rounds being finnicky because of the odd bullet shape. My MR920E did not like Critical Defense rounds at all, averaging one jam per mag. I switched to Federal HST & Punch ammo and no issues since.
I have found critical defense and critical duty are both very good in smaller carry guns because of there shape they feed very well and you dont have to stuff your mag in when full plus 1 so I have been using critical defense in my carry gun and it works great !
I love my Mr, if we're talking a new ammo selection I say go 10mm. Something to compete with the hunter 1911's and Glock 20/40, a 10mm long slide with a 6" barrel would have my cash.
Honestly the biggest issue with light for caliber 9mm loads is POI shift. Aside from low penetration depth from the Liberty offering, I've generally been satisfied with unconventional/light for caliber projectile terminal ballistics. However, I've found that Liberty Ultralight/Civil Defense 50gr +P and Underwood Xtreme Defender 68gn +P tend to impact ~4" Left at 10 yards out of my DR920 and MR918, whereas 115-147gn conventional projectiles typically have no more than an inch of vertical POI shift and zero horizontal POI shift between each other. I'm not sure why the lighter projectiles do that. That said, I currently carry Hornady Critical Duty 135gn because it has the best expansion and penetration of anything that's available at my local big box stores, and it feeds reliably in my Shadow Systems pistols.
.40 still has a definite advantage over 9mm in muzzle energy & wound cavity. Speer Lawman .40 S&W 165 grain has 484 lb/ft of energy. That's well beyond 9mm +P specs. I have Buffalo Bore hard cast ammunition in both calibers, and the .40 is quite a bit hotter. There are .40 loads from BB and Underwood that make well over 500 lb/ft of muzzle energy, even approaching 600. While we may not see many new guns chambered in .40 S&W, it's far from dead. The increased popularity of new 10mm pistols bodes well for .40 S&W as target ammo. So far all the new 10mm guns seem to run .40 reliably, and it's cheaper than shooting 10mm.
I wouldn’t say it’s dead. Competition shooters like Taran Butler still shoot it. My agency did ballistic testing in/around vehicles and windshields etc and compared 9mm to .40 and .40 was noticeably better. That said, my agency still switched from .40 to 9mm due to capacity, cost and for those who aren’t “gun guys” who only shoot when they qualify. They seem to shoot the 9mm slightly better. I mostly carry 9mm off duty, BUT I own and shoot .40 and .45 pretty often. People complain about harsh .40 recoil, then those same people load their 9mm with +P hot loads and never train with those rounds. If they did, the whole “.40 has too much recoil” argument would be null.
agreed wholeheartedly... recoil not an issue for me, but I use full size for my .40... I wouldn't want a S&W Shield in 40 - that would be more than "snappy".
Neat. I mean 124 XTP +P or really any 124 jhp +p should be common knowledge. If you can afford a couple shadow systems, you probably know already. Still daily looking for the cr920p. Take my money, take my money, take my money. The thread on comp for the mr920 I have it great. A purpose built comp like on the dr920 will be perfection in the cr920.
Maybe good advice (sounds like good advice), selecting ammo from the list that passed this testing protocol may also lend itself to your favor in court if you ever have to use your pistol defensively, but not just in a "I use Gold Dot because the FBI uses Gold Dot" way, in a "I use Gold Dot because it does XYZ for ABC reason, I can prove it because the FBI tested it in this capacity and well documented it."
Not on my War Poet MR920, ran about 200 rds of Hornady Critical Defense had issues at least once in every mag. I moved to Federal HST without issues. Make sure you test the crap out of it just in case.
Will a MR 920 frame hold up using an OEM .40 G23 slide mounted on it? P.S. I believe the US Marshall service still use the .40...are they politically incorrect?😮
@@hartsickdisciple Actually it doesn't. It's more powerful sure, but when you're talking about pistols, power doesn't matter. What matters is terminal ballistics. And it has been proven that a quality 9mm defense round has equal/better terminal ballistics than a lot of .40 and even .45. Specifically I think the FBI said the 147 grain loading beat 45 in terminal ballistics and damage on target. Not trying to be mean or anything, this is just what I've seen in my research
@@fullfire0 I've seen the opposite in gel and meat target testing. I've never seen any legitimate test that shows a 9mm beating a .40 S&W of similar overall design. Not for damage, not for penetration, or wound channel. 9mm was chosen because it performed "good enough," has less recoil, and is cheaper. It doesn't have better terminal ballistics.
I run 147gr HST at 1000fps out of a 5 inch barrel. That's a subsonic 9mm. Less snappy than +p and is terminally similar. I prioritize hitting multiple follow up shots over a larger caliber and having enough rounds to deal with multiple attackers without having to reload.
@fullfire0 Did I say that? I am his 1st cousin 3 times removed! Next thing you're going to tell me, my family history. Where do you think they got the ideas for 40rad, 10mm, and then 40sw from?
We need a 10mm Shadow Systems pistol ASAP.
Instantly my carry for hiking if they did. I love my mr920 for conceal carry.
And now, the 10mm is back...amazing how what goes around comes around
Thanks Trevor! Love this kind of stuff!

My MR920 definitely doesn't like the Hornady offerings. I was only trying it out; I still stick with Speer 124gr +P
When you announcing a new caliber for Shadow Systems.
Y’all need to hop on the 10mm comeback!!!
I'd love. To see you all make a shadow systems. 45 ACP. 😎🤘. I'm buying one.

When is the CR920P coming ? Lol. Awesome Video
when is shadow systems coming out with a 10mm
Trevor always reminds me of my high school football coach.
Let me get one of those posters Shadow Systems!
Definitely need a DR in .40 caliber. I'd buy one immediately

HST and Gold Dot all day
Good topic
DR920LP next? Cause why not 🤷
Nice. I finally have a reason to break out my jean jacket outfit from the eighties

Hornady Critical Defense will 1000% will not reliably run correctly on my War Poet....Moved to HST for this reason (no issues).
Working on something new Boss and i don't mean the same gun with a comp, we need something new.
The M1152 really shows how effective the DR920P’s comp is. Shoot the 920P and a non-comp gun with 1152 side by side. Feels like a super-power. 😂
Yall gunna make some rifles?

Can't say I have personally tested it, but as long as you swap out extractors I don't see why it wouldn't hold up
@@joe-redacted thanks for the reply, yes things can get lively if the extractor is not swapped out
.40 is one of the best calibers for pistols lol
