    I remember when they were trying to todo a two player starter set a while back but that was a long time ago. But with the MK4 its a great way to start and the new models are so nice looking. I'm not worried with Steamforged take over. They have the man power to get Warmachine to a height it deserves. I also play legacy as well. Thats my big armies after 20 years. Also i Build my own 3d terrain buildings and such the only thing i dont make 3d is forest terrain outside of random trees.

    the issue is the permanent lose of legacy models does not just effect the warmachine, it kneecaps their RPG which take place before any of the MK4 stuff existed in the lore. since not only is that game built around having them, but these things are harder to find on the second hand market the longer things go on.

    • @SciFiPorkChop28

      that is a great point I didn't even think about (as not a current Iron Kingdoms RPG player)... is there another 3rd party sculptor doing "IK like" steampunk or diesel punk stuff that could work? But you are right.. if they are going to release a bunch of RPG compatable books, but no models... that would be weird...
      but if they focus on the current MK4 story-arc, there is probalby not room to go revisit the Old Iron Kingdoms... hmm...

      @@SciFiPorkChop28 their is no 3rd party stuff i could find. their are a few cygnar jacks that are low polly rips from their video game. but very little in terms of 3rd part STLs.

    • @tonypeterson496

      I run a Iron kingdoms adjacent dnd campaign. Getting Jack's isn't impossible but it's not easy. 3d printing isn't a great option. There is 1 great stl for an Iron golem that is off scale but can be scaled down. There is one stl maker that has some good charger/lancer stl. Some jack parts are available. The low poly jack is a real B-. It's also a pain as all my attemps to get it supported for printing have failed. Thus I have a bunch jack parts for bases and terrain.There is nothing for the labor jacks or for the non Cygnar jacks. As to other troops or characters you would have needed to buy during the the start of warehouse clearance sale.

      Yes, they did. But they also said that going forwards, they will be doing the Command Sets in HIPS and they will only be the FIRST exploration of hips. Implying that further out, it could all go plastic. You see, I'm extrapolating information to make things seem more exciting than they are. Otherwise there's no video here and that would be a shame!

    -Proper sprue plastic, not that pvc stuff, makes me happy. Im a kitbasher at heart and anything that makes that easier is good news.
    -2 player starter is good news. The old ones were great value. Split with a friend, get cheap models. Material wasnt the greatest, but i wasnt complaining at that price
    -Im actually enjoying using the "legacy" rules and just rolling dice with my old toys again. New stuff might tempt me to look at new units, which is good for their business, but im a little worried about compatibility with my older stuff. But... the two in the picture look a lot like strakhov and caine, so maybe itll work out ok.

  • @AVhq11
    @AVhq11 2 месяца назад +2

    I liked metal. Might need pinning and using superglue isn't fun. But I'll take it over resin any day. Much easier to deal with bent parts.
    (and bent parts is the reason i hate spears).
    Hard plastic is fine. I guess it depends on quality and type. Plastic cement is so much easier to work with than superglue but then mould lines and sprues can be a bit of a time sink.
    This is why i really liked 3d printed stuff from PP. Sure some older models had been a bit brittle or had some misprints, but they made such a huge progress over last year. And cleaning up the supports was really quick.
    So fro me it would be:
    Pewter/metal
    3d printed resin
    Hard plastic
    Resin
    Soft plastic
    Finecast

    Yep! I mentioned this in your previous video about the merger announcement. They started test and trials during the Monster Hunter World: Iceborne kickstarters. Gave full updates and everything. It's one I thing I can appreciate about SFG is their transparency even through kickstarter. Two armies in a box should be quite a successful intro for those who are interested. Even better if it can be found in regular normie stores and book stores

    • @GlassHalfDead
      @GlassHalfDead  2 месяца назад +2

      That's the dream. A loss leader 2 player box in a normie store. It seems crazy to me mainly because it would require hobby, so they'd also logically need to sell the hobby stuff to that customer so it almost doesn't make sense. I was thinking the soft plastic version would let them get a starter like one of their boardgames into stores and that makes sense. I don't know what to think about it

    • @foreverfornever1124
      @foreverfornever1124 2 месяца назад

      @GlassHalfDead truthfully it could be the start of regular stores carrying TTG and accessories worldwide. GW dabbles in it occasionally with their board games, and D&D and Battletech are pretty much sold everywhere. I know places like Target and Barnes and Nobles here in the States already sell model kits from other brands and IPs, along with tools so it's not too far off from mini's.
      I was thinking the soft plastic would remain for their less popular games. Doesn't seem to be Monster Hunters MO as they've made millions in profit from the first game and broke their previous kickstarter record with Iceborne. Of course with the explosion of the Monster Hunter franchise in general over the last 5+ years will make the case for SFG to put it at the forefront of their board game catalog

    My love to Warmachine is coming from the year 2018. I just saw those beautifull steampunk models and arts and liked them so much. Then I forgot about it, since had no chance to play it. Came back in 2023 with new edition, it was like fresh air for this dying world, but meh, the new stuff and style was not so catching, so I left it once again.
    And NOW with this deal between PP and SF I really excited! It's pleausure to wait for 2 player box, since it's, lol, the first thing should`ve been done with new edition. Moreover in plastic, which means it should be cheaper than 3d, I guess.

    So I guess I'm just really confused... one of the deathknells for Guild Ball was inconsistent materials (metal, resin, plastic, back again)... and so the first thing SFG is doing with MK4 is changing materials AGAIN?...
    Long term, an affordable hard plastic starter set is really what is needed... to stay on shelves... to be available to new players...
    And if they are able to move other boxed sets contents into hard plastic, then yes... that is what gamers want... But also... PP seems to have invested heavily in this 3d printing option and to just walk away from it.. and enter into hard plastic sprues which ARE NOT something SFG have done (to my knowledge) vs board game style plastics like GodTear or Resident Evil or Epic Encounters.... seems.... risky.... and a bit like they learned nothing from the time with Guild Ball

    So far everything I've heard from steamforge PP merger acquisition whatever it maybe sounds like a positive. Warmachine has needed a new starter set badly and hopefully this one hits the mark. It's an interesting choice to have starter sets as full characters even down to the units. Really interested in what the contents besides the casters and jacks are.

    I played WMH through all of Mk2 and hard injected plastic would be SO good. The soft plastic stuff they started using with Retribution was just pretty bad in comparison to metals. All the mold line issues but it just shredded instead of filed or cut down.
    having an an army box bundle as a limited release is kind of find imho.
    3D terrain seems fine i *guess* but i really hope that mechanically its still the same old 2.5 column style representations of models and terrain

For now it's playable in casual environments. And the good news here is that unlike 40k where literally no one touches Legends, Warmachine isn't a big enough community to turn anyone away, so even diehard tournament players will play against an Unlimited list!

    Metal because you have no choice or you hate yourself and your life and love spending hours doing simple conversions. And fixing paint chips is your idea of a good time. Yes I play infinity and yes I started in 96.... I have metal models painted in 96 thst have never needed a chip repair... I have others that seem to chip in shipping. I blame my inexperienced painting hands for those abominations.

    First great video Andrew, first material, unless a product needs a property all materials and production methods have trad offs and will depend on scale of production, for exemple injection mold plastic(GW style) is a very cost effective material IF you can deliver on the volume needed since its needs a large up front cost, 3D printing is more versatile and allows a a more responsive creation, there is a reason 3D printing is the best method for rapid prtotyping, this is not an extensive list, because i do not have the information on all, this might not even be feasable to do in a short time frame( like what happened to Siocast? it was all the rage and the next revolution, and it just vanished, no one talks about it anymore), i do not use reddit so cant comment, i think that the not playable with khador and cygnar may mean they are Storm legion and Winter korps, as in they do not work for legaçy/unlimited armies, but i may be wrong i do not have insider information, the expanding the hard platic range is too vague, by what i gathered the 2 player starter and its associated comanders are the ones planed to be in hard plastic now the hard platic line may be extended to other loss leader products where the high volume needed by injection molding is also a prerequisite so thats(loss leaders may mean the comand starter line and or other products), i would be down for a epic encounters iron kingdom series of boxes for the RPG, that would be an way to get acess to some more specific stuff in the lore like Dreggs, Lethians, Bogrins and others(even thoug i do not play requiem, but the 2D6), but there is stil precious little information, the 40K popularity explanation, 40K is popular because its popular it's really this simple and stupid, but in more understandable terms, it has a large base with a substantial captive audience and a incredibly vast all right somewhat acessible lore, brand recognition and associated non core products, many of those advantages are because of its age and being ne of the firsts(D&D is in the same boat), IF the command startes being FOMO products mean the ones associated with the 2 player starter it is more OK since it is most likely a way to people who play those factions to get those models, not a mass market, it is arguable if this or direct only is better, most likely a hybrid would be the best for consumers the forst print is sold as a standart SKU, the latter print runs only acessible "directly trhough them"
