    The Reddit AMA: www.reddit.com/r/Warmachine/s/qTu8yarmOS
SO IS THIS GOOD OR BAD?
On the positive note: the IP and business model in general was obviously successful enough to be purchased. All the naysayers would have told you the IP would never sell. But it's now alongside Horizon zero dawn, dark souls, and Monster Hunter.
And who cares about the negative note. Life sucks, the world is in shambles, I'm going to be positive about my silly little toy hobby!

If it helps the Iron Kingdoms stay as an intriguing universe for people to participate in, then it's awesome.
I have seen games that were sold to another company like Battletech, Dungeons and Dragons, and games that should have been sold to another company like O.G.R.E or Dark Age.
In the end I prefer universes to stick around than vanish and all we have is one or two from the same company.

Overall, if what this collaboration is, is that Privateer will continue on mini and games design and Steamforged had entered the picture for their manufacturing and marketing which are generally the games weaknesses then I can only imagine this will be for the better.

It wouldn't be the first time wargames and RPGs were in main line shops. Back in 198-Idontwantotthinkaboutit I brought red box D&D in John Lewis, and Virgin stores used to have an extensive RPG and tabletop section, especially at the height of the popularity of World of Darkness. I got my first copy of BattleTech from there.

Of course i hope PP staff will be ok and i really hope their talent, passion and vision will keep shaping warmachine and iron kingdoms.
That being said it might be nice to have a good production and distribution centre in the UK. Perhaps we might even have hobby tools back from Formula P3 back (brushes, files, primers).
I am however not particularly keen on the soft plastic. I think PP old metal and new 3d printed models were great. And i really don't want to see them replaced with soft plastic.

Warmachine and hordes were hands down infinitely better then any rule set created by Needed to think and be tactical. Not to mention the miniatures are amazing. In days gone past I would always recommend it over 40k. A cheaper and far better game. Privateer Press dropped the ball on this game years ago and totally failed to invigorate it.
Could this be a good thing? I hope so. I loved the game and minis and would be so stoked to see it make a return. Am I sceptical? Yes . I’ll celebrate when I see things improve.

SFG has really been knocking it out of the park with their recent model offerings. I play both the Dark souls and Monster Hunter Board games regularly. They're recent next evolution of model creation with hard plastics really has me excited as they have been very transparent and communicative about the upcoming Monster Hunter Worlds: Iceborne release. Also crazy they now are in control of P3 paints that may just get an overhaul itself if they can perhaps copy Army Painter strategy of bringing on experienced painters and hobbyist. I wonder if SFG would bring back Guild ball and allow Privateer Press to revive the game and maintian it competitively. This merger could really be successful if managed correctly.

  • @mrchom
    @mrchom 8 месяцев назад

I feel like there's some very relevant info here. Rich Loxam, Mat Hart, and Jamie Perkins at SFG are all old hands at Warmachine. Back when I was a Press Ganger, Privateer's volunteer scheme, I was running events they were playing in (Like the UK Games Expo Masters back when there was one of those). They know where the game has come from, where it headed, and given Jamie P is still a dab hand at running people into the ground they know where it is now.
Will they be able to do anything for it? That's a question above my pay grade, but I think given their past they'll put a good shove behind it. We'll see where that gets us.

ok so with magnets then out this then takes away from what most of the new armies and game for mk 4 have been designed around if they do end up killing the 3d printed models and magnets that means zero customizing with your jacks etc and then having to spend even more money for the other now jack varieties dont get me wrong doing soft plastic for character stuff like jacks that have no load outs to swap in and out would be fine but all the custom work you can do or bring would then be gone if they kill the magnet stuff

Interesting take on GodTear... the real issue (IMHO) is the lack of support for GodTear... it is a great game.. it has good models... it does have a niche market... but it also is a hybrid that SHOULD appeal to boardgamers, new wargamers, and is an very easy side game for established tabletop gamers... yet the last release for the game was in Feb of 2023 and before that I think July of 2022?....
SFG have STILL never updated their typo'd downloadable rule book and other than one single SFG official event last year in England, I don't believe there has been anything organized for the game...
it is also even weirder IMHO because SFG DID take their game to Tabletopia with an official and honeslty REALLY well done digital version of the game... so why spend all that money and time and then NOT push the game more?... while ALSO still trickling out maybe one release a year?... it's just very odd to me. But I did appreciate your take.

Shame about how Mythic took a shit all over Monsterpocalypse. They had a great plan and a super good buy in to "boardgame-ify" Monpoc, and I believe it was the right direction to go in. The price was right, the factions were portioned in correct numbers. Something PP never understood.
I am hardly shocked by this turn of events with WM. I am glad it is going to somebody who can possibly do something with it.
And that seems to be PP's problem in a nutshell, is incompetence in building and maintaining a business. Because clearly whatever the hell you call the last decade, even after resurrecting Monpoc, sure as hell wasnt the formulae for success.
On the other hand, I dont remotely miss manchildren milling about the game shop saying "Do you even page 5, bro?!? Play like you got a pair."
Warmachine bred some of the cringiest takes in gaming history, and the more maladaptive types used it as validation for their shitty lack of respect for the concept of consent in everyday social interactions.
