I think I have the perfect do-it-yourself excursion, for Dee and Jay. It's cheap and easy, that's why we have done it many times when we have been in Grand Cayman. So we exit the port area, and take a public bus to the best snorkeling and beach ever. But MAYBE I shouldn't give it away, since it's always serene and uncrowded when we are there. Ok ok, take the public bus to cemetery beach. So the bus (looks like a van), is easy to find and cheap, like $3 a person. Cemetery beach is located on 7 mile beach. This beach is quiet, has a few picnic tables, trees, and wonderful snorkeling. One thing to note, there are no bathrooms or restaurants on this section of the beach, but that is why it stays pristine. There is a good variety of fish, and the entrance is so much easier than Eden Rock and places like that. I get a little nervous climbing slippery ladders, when the waves are rough. Last time we where there, we seen at least 25 varieties of fish, lobster etc.
Nice! We haven't delved into public transport there, but that's awesome. Yes, the slippery ladder was the most nerve-wracking part when we went over to Don Foster's. Something from a beach sounds lovely, ha ha... thankee!! :D
@@ShelbyAvery120 We don't leave our money or ship cards in the bag on the beach. Both my hubby and I have bathing suits with pockets in them, and we swim with our waterproof camera. So nothing of value is left on the beach. You can also swim with a waterproof lanyard, but I would rather take less and not deal with the lanyard. Boy I miss cruising!
We did stingray city with a private company and it was much cheaper. There was a photographer on board and we bought a flash drive with all of our pictures. I think it was $25 or $35 for that and my friend and I shared it. Ours was one of the few tours that actually let us feed the stingrays because there are limits of how much they are allowed to be fed. I wish I remembered the name of the tour.
Along with Bermuda, we felt quite safe in Grand Cayman and never hassled by vendors or such. That was eons ago back in 2006, but I would expect that it has remained quite peaceful there.
We found an 3rd-party trip to the Crystal Caves as Carnival was not offering the tour. It is an excursion I recommend. The lighting on the underwater lake is amazing and is changed so that you can see the lake with various lighting.
Last couple times we were there we went to West End. Walked over from the port like 2 blocks to where the bus station is and took a bus aka mini van to the turtle farm and dolphin discovery. Bus ride was 1.50 US dollars per person one way and it picked us up there as well
I went to Grand Cayman many years ago and it was so beautiful. The trip to the turtle farm and to Hell was interesting. Some day I hope to go back. Thanks for the video.
This was very helpful! We are going to Grand Cayman on March 21, which is the first day the port has opened since the beginning of thr pandemic. All the ship excursions are sold out, but we were going to see if we could take a taxi to 7 Mile Beach. Now I know that there are additional tours at the peer and definitely taxis. Thanks so much!
Patiently waiting to see if Port guides for our stops on our Pride Journeys cruise in November will be available soon. Great work and advice from both of you. Thanks!
Haaah... well, we hit Grand Turk already and we've got San Juan and St Maarten on the agenda, but that's probably about it. We've never been to St Croix or Martinique, and we've only hit Barbados and St Kitts once, so I don't know how qualified I feel to cover them yet, but who knows... :P
Awesome! We always enjoy a good Grand Cayman day, and maybe one time we'll actually stop in and check out the Margaritaville or something... I know they have a small rooftop pool with a waterslide there, but I don't know if it's totally free. Hope you have a blast!! :D
I lived on grand cayman feb 88 to feb 89 i was the art dept. For cayman screen print. Had some good times. More bad times. Glad i went. More glad to leave
My wife and I are older so the snorkeling, swimming activity is not practical. The excursion from Royal Caribbean and the travel agency are not very appealing. Are there vendors options after you land? Is it safe to do a self walking tour of Georgetown?
Sure! You can find vendors selling island tours when you arrive at the port from the tender. Georgetown is pretty walkable as well if you're into shopping!!
My family and I will be taking our first ever cruise in July 2022 through Carnival and I stumbled across your channel and LOVE it! Quick question I have: One of our stops will be Grand Cayman and I am wondering if those who purchase excursions get priority boarding the first few tender boats. (We spent a week in Grand Cayman a few years ago and experienced much that the island had to offer, so we were not planning to book an excursion.) With that said, we would like to spend the most time we can there and didn't know if there is a system in place to try and get on the first few tender rides that go out in the morning once we get to Grand Cayman. Thanks !!
Yes, usually the excursions go first, loyalty status goes second, then it opens up numerically for folks using a tender sticker system where you register onboard and receive a number, starting with group 1 and working lowest to highest.
Eh, we've got it on the agenda, but probably not any time soon. We've only been twice and we haven't done a whole lot, so we'd like to explore a little more, ha ha... but I know there's the mall with a Margaritaville right next to the port, which was cool to explore. Lot of pushy vendors if you wander around too much on your own, so we always try to have a solid plan or excursion, hah...
I got a question! Can we take our 4 and 2 year old with us on the "deluxe stingray city sandbar for families"? Also, can I fit that Stingray experience and time out on 7 mile beach at the same time, or is it either one or the other? Love your vids! THX!
Thankee thankee! The minimum age for that excursion is 5 years, as it's best for all participants to be able to stand in waist-deep (to an adult) water with some moderate waves pretty much unassisted.
We have! I believe we've vlogged it twice so far. We'll be back there at the beginning of October, and are planning to do a port guide after our visit. We normally just go to the free beach there for ship guests, but we're actually venturing outside the port next time around!! :P
Funny, Ocho Rios and Freeport were next on the list until the shutdown came. We haven’t been back to Ocho Rios since the restart to see what’s still open, but I’m sure we’ll get to it after another visit or two!! :D
I LOVE Grand Cayman! Have not been there for years. Not enough ships go there. Just booked the Breeze for Nov 2020 cuz it was crazy cheap n only $98 dep per person so had to jump on that in my quest to become platinum 😁 No Grand Caymen tho.
I love watching your port guides even when I have been somewhere. I do have 1 suggestion. Taking a bus in Grand Cayman is easy and cheap…great transportation option. We also take the bus in Aruba and Barbados.
From my research, you can use a drone but not near the tender docking area or near the airport. So you’d have to get up to somewhere like Seven Mile Beach before you could “legally” fly.
Love Grand Cayman. We are scuba divers so we have done a few excursions diving as well as the Stingray/Turtle Farm/Hell excursion. I believe Don Fosters lost their cruise contract, that is why there are no excursions with them anymore.
That's awesome! We enjoyed our adventure with Don Foster's, so that's sad to hear if the cruise line doesn't work with them anymore. I suppose you could still book an adventure with them independently.
We just walked over to the bus stop and went to Hell it was very very cool and took the bus back to the ship and yes I did mailed a post card that was cool and then we walked around the shops
“Rescuing” SEA turtles from the SEA…& eating them. I’ll be there this winter & want to know if they also rescue any clams or calamari by chance? (Yes I’m going to Hell)
I hate being told to wear a life vest in the water. When I was younger, I could dive quite deep and even though I can still hold my breath a lot longer than average, my big problem is getting under. Now, I float _way_ more than I want to. I don't want flotation. I want weights. At least enough to get me buoyancy neutral.
Yeah, that was so sad! But I guess you sort of have to approach everything in life "at your own risk", hah. The handlers had lots of safety advice and seemed to know what they were doing. I can see how the stingrays wouldn't be for a lot of people, but we enjoyed our adventure.
Oh yeah, we've vlogged both of us snorkeling at least twice (Belize 2017 and Grand Cayman 2018), but I think I've done it 4 or 5 times... if I finally break down and get prescription goggles, I may snorkel more, hah...

We did the submerged boat thing to do the snorkel and stay dry as you called it. It was enjoyable. We shopped and got some cool souvenirs
That's awesome! We've been tempted by those semi-sub adventures, but haven't checked one out yet.
We got cool pictures

True, Grand Cayman feels like one of the safer ports that you can just roam around freely... love it!! :D
The prettiest water I’ve ever seen!
Highly recommend vacationing on the island. The people are great, and you're right... we felt very safe on the island.
Definitely a place that seems awesome for a land vacay!! :D
I love this series. On my cruise in December, I'm going to Grand Cayman. Rock on.

We did the Sea/Land tour which included about an hour and a half at 7 Mile Beach.
Walking on the ocean floor has now jumped to something I have to do! Thanks for the info, guys!
This is such a fun series! Looking forward to next week's port. We always enjoy a day in Grand Cayman.
Have a great weekend!
Crystal Charters was fabulous! They took us to Starfish Point instead of Stingray City because it was closed due to rough seas.
Ah, very nice!! :D
LOVE LOVE LOVE THE BACKGROUND!!!! So cute !!!!!
Haaah, thankee!! :D
I swam with the Dolphins in Grand Cayman and it was a tour I booked through Royal Caribbean.
Great video. Stingrays snd turtles; we thought were awesome. Grand Cayman is beautiful and safe. Looking forward to a future visit.
I made the tour of my futur port cruise with your reviews and it's awesome! Thank You!

Nice! We usually try to investigate public transport, but hadn't even thought to do that in Grand Cayman as of yet. Good to know!! :D
Is there a particular day of the week you'll be posting port guide videos so I can make sure to tune in? I love this series
Thankee! They’ll be most every Wednesday unless we have something else exciting going on, hah...
We walked around jumped on local bus went to beach came back and had lunch in port
I like this vlog series, very informative! Thank you!

Thanks for the video on George Town. We are going there this September aboard Celebrity Equinox. I really enjoy the videos, so thanks for that.
