I could not put it to words as a kid, but this movie's themes of friends just drifting apart due to life happening and things never being the same when they grow up messed me up as a kid more than any Disney film death.

Chief was supposed to die. The studio not allowing that was what caused Don Bluth and other animators to leave. I kind of get where they're coming from. It made much more sense for Amos and Copper to want to kill Tod if Chief died. Them going after him just because he hurt his leg makes them seem overly vindictive. Sure, they would be upset, but the fact that Chief is still alive should've been enough for them to just let it be, at least Copper, anyway. I can't see him ending his friendship and wanting to kill Tod just because Chief broke his leg. Now, if Tod had caused Chief to lose his life, I could see that causing Copper to be pushed over the edge and wanting to see Tod dead.

    • @bitterzombie
      @bitterzombie 6 дней назад +2

Yeah, it would have made a lot more sense to have it that way. A part of the problem was that the animation sequence for him falling was too gruesome. But if they wanted to keep it PG they should have just had him fall into the river & be ASSUMED dead. He could even show up again at the end to confirm he hadnt died if they wanted

As a little kid I never realized that the farm lady and the hunter weren’t a couple, just neighbors, was very relieved to realize that when watching as an adult, in other news the hunter in this movie breaks at least 5 laws that I’m aware of, if not more, hunting on a game preserve, trespassing on private property, hunting within a certain distance from a home, hunting within a certain distance from a road, and destruction of private property

@@rasmusn.e.m1064 I'm sorry to hear about your friend, I bet those memories will last you a lifetime. It definitely gives off a different view when ages ago you couldn't really keep in contact with people when they moved away or their paths in life were different, I think that's what I find hard, because I would always wonder where they are, are they okay etc. I wonder if thats what happens with me, like something I've hidden and it only comes out when it comes to old shows like this.
Though, I know part of it is feeling so sad for the widow and Todd in that scene. I dunno what the scene is like in the book, but the music, the widow's thoughts as she tearfully drives along really affect me emotionally.
To be alone, feels so cruel for both characters, - definietly for the widow, this being the second time - they want to stay together, but the widow is forced to do this because of how much she loves Todd, and can't see him hurt or die by the hands of that hunter.
Just writing this tears me up, damnit XD

When Tod chose to save copper from the bear he was probably thinking back to the night of Chief's accident when copper decided to let him go and thought he should return the favor making them even. If copper was thinking the exact same thing he could've still try to kill him like they intended hence why Tod accepted he was at his Mercy when he was injured from the fight with a bear but copper was probably touched by this and had flashes back to their friendship so he realized it wasn't worth it.

I think this is one of the first Disney animated films I saw that didn't have a solidly happy ending. It's more a bittersweet ending, which I don't think they did much.
A group of birds is a flock, though there are specific names for specific birds. Like a group of owls is a Parliament, which is kind of cool. Apparently many owls are solitary rather than going by flocks.
And of owls, segue, the Big Mama Owl is voiced by the great Pearl Bailey. She was a singer and I believe actress. She caused some controversy once by supporting Nixon, Bill Cosby basically called her a traitor to Black people back when people cared what he had to say, but the interview I read about it she sounded basically apolitical. Nixon said he'd make her "Ambassador of Love" or something and she thought that sounded sweet. And she came across a bit "I just want us to love everyone Republican or Democrat." So I kind of like her.

As a kid of a lower class family, both going to the theater and having a VHS player was a luxury we wouldn't afford before I was like 9-10 (and both my older brothers had became independent). Plus, though we had a couple of Disney's TV shows in France, they only aired bits and pieces of Disney movies, cause you know... If you give them the whole movie for free, why would they bought the VHS ? So I only had illustrated books of some Disney stories and fairy tales. The Fox and The Hound was my favorite amongst them. But I could have swore that in my book, the oldest dog died in that train accident.
So when, as an adult, I bought the DVD, I was kinda bugged that he survived. But I considered that I was just misremembering the story. But a comment below kinda confirms that I was right. I suppose the book I had was the original story, but with illustrations from the Disney movie to make more sales.
Now, Sophie, considering that Amos went to spend literally months hunting for furs, and though it's not stated by the movie, it's fair to assume he didn't do it just for fun, but for a living. So his dogs are not just his pets, they also are his working tools. We can understand that he is not very happy that Chief got hurt/killed (depending on the version).

8:49 A lot of people have theorised that but I read online it's highly unlikely Amos was the hunter who killed Tod's mother because he was out purchasing copper at the time but I guess that isn't solid proof because there could have been a time skip. But if you listen at the beginning there were multiple dogs pursuing Tod's mom and chief was amo's only dog at the time so I don't think it was him.

Hi Sophie Disney the Fox and the Hound is a great Disney Classic movie about friendship and it coming apart because of what nature intended
My favorite moment of the movie is when Copper is fighting the Bear to try and protect his owner only to get defeated and even though Tod
Had the chance to run away he didn't Because I think dep down he new he wood regret it
Tod showing true bravery in facing the Bear and protecting his friend and showing Cooper that no matter what happened between the two Tod was going to keep the the promise thay made to one another even if he lost his own life in the process because that what a true friendship is and Cooper finally relazad that and I think Cooper owner did as well

I think this was the film that Don Bluth walked out when it was in development. Thought it was too cutesy. I think this film aged pretty well in terms of the story. Friendships can change and even end, but at least on mutual terms. You can move on and still care about each other while living your own lives.

    3. I really thought Chief was gonna die when he got knocked off by that train.
    4. I really wonder why Disney was too pussy to show when someone was dying. All we know for sure is that Todd’s mother disappeared but we never really know for sure if she was actually killed. There is no hide, no corpse, no bullet in the head or chest, nothing. I’m sure she may have been killed but show that she was killed or else there’s no proof that she’s dead.

Because it's Disney I won't make a huge statement but most times if you have trained a wild animal as a house pet. And if they don't learn how to live on their animal instincts then they'd die. It's very hard to reintroduce animals to the wild after they have been taken in by humans and then trying to relocate them back to their roots of wild, most of the time they would starve or be eaten by other animals because they wouldn't know how to fend for themselves. But because this is Disney won't go into full details of what could happen in that situation about her just dropping him off and he's never learned to hunt or fish so he wouldn't know how to truly protect himself or feed himself or interact with others of his own kind.
I miss these old movies they had lessons in them more often than today's remakes there just sending new messages. At least these had some lessons to learn from.

As narratively intriguing as it would be for Slade to have been the one to kill Tod's mother, I'm afraid the timing just doesn't fit. The time between the mother getting shot and Slade bringing Copper home couldn't have been more than half an hour - not enough time for Slade to shoot the vixen, bring the corpse home, tie up his dog, drive away, buy a puppy and come back.

Your claim of sexist man reminds me of a story. A man running a county store calls a little boy wearing glasses buying a comic book "nerd" and he's crotchety, he calls a working man buying lottery tickets "sucker" and he's crotchety, he calls a woman buying a book "female" and he's sexist. It's not "sexist", it's rude, it's being a jerk, it's uncouth and calling everything that isn't sexist "Sexist!" undermines the word and causes more sexism to go by unnoticed.

Movies like this and Silver Fang are very hard to understand from today's perspective regarding the treatment of animals by their owners. Even in the recent past however, dogs and especially working dogs were considered beasts of burden rather than lap pets; they were treated rough so they could survive and wouldn't hesitate, as we've seen with Copper even going up against a bear to protect his master. Police and military dogs are still trained in a similar manner due to their unique tasks. Which isn't to say that this is the right way to treat an animal, but it's vital that we don't put an equality sign between this and people of today mistreating animals without any justification.
Also, foxes are the best and Russian scientists actually do work on creating a domesticated variant of foxes, already with preliminary success. Currently they are trying to determine whether foxes also have a genetic aptitude for domestication similarly to the wolves and coyotes/jackals that were the forefathers of dogs. These specimen had a genetic 'defect' similar to the William snydrome in humans, thus being easier to built rapport with and eventually become symbiotic with humans. Of course back then they didn't know about genetics being the cause of this overfriendliness. That being said, there is also a chance that foxes will sort of 'domesticate themselves' over generations of selective breeding similarly to cats, since their psychology shows similarities with felines.

I have a really good movie recommendation. It’s called Alpha and Omega. If you like wolves, you’ll like this.

So one thing. Genetics are Genetics. Dogs shown love still rely on their breeding/Genetics bred into them. Copper and chief are both hunting dogs. You can't love out Genetics. That's why we have different breeds. It's definitely not how you raise them. That's why copper off the bat was a great hunting dog. Because he was bred for it.

Pretty please react to Sonic the Hedgehog 3, there also two post credits scenes I want you to see. It’s really good, it was Keanu Reeves as Shadow in it.

This is the most queer-coded Disney classic ever, alongside Mulan. Can't change my mind... 😊

Get lost, weirdo. Not everything is supposed to be "queer." Are you saying that no one of the same sex can only be friends?
You need to get away from social media, get out of your home, get some sunlight, and touch some grass. And think about other things.

Thank you for this reaction. This underrated film definitely shows the value of true friendship and the reality of friends going their separate ways. Those old days are gone, but never forgotten. The film has a lighter tone than the original novel. The original novel is much darker and more emotional. Both the Fox and the Hound in the novel reach tragic endings. I’d like to recommend another Disney movie called The Biscuit Eater which does focus on a dog being trained to hunt in a contest.
