Never seen such high-tech headphones review like this before, what a great and understandable tests, but to me M60x has less noise leakage. Kudos guys!
Owning both, I would say the following... Sound signature, headphone and sound are completely objective so take all videos and reviews with a pinch of salt, including this comment, but for me the higher fidelity headphones are the 60's, despite occasional bright signature with songs that are treble heavier. I hear more detail in the 60's, and soundstage are night and day between these two and that is a fact, but you won't go wrong with either for the price. Happy listening my audiophile freinds.
I like the M60 a lot more than the M50. I feel the M50 has a more typical consumer sound signature, a bit bloated and suited to modern pop tunes, this may explain their broad appeal. I feel like if I wanted I can get that same sound from many headphones and at a lower price. The M60 to me has a tighter, more detailed and refined sound. I also like that the M60 doesn't fold, when using headphones for field recording and for studio work folding can be a pain in the ass. They inevitably end up folding themselves from getting nudged and from taking them on an off. For fun I find pairing them with a Bluetooth mini DAC/amp like the Fiio BTR5 is superior to any wireless headphone on the market.
I love my new M60X and my M50X are now collecting dust. The dip around 430Hz is similar on both headphones as they share the same transducer. I measure similar performance on both. But for some reason, the M50X has a much worse dip at 6kHz.
ThinkingBetter hey I wanted to ask, is there any difference in the low end area? I feel like my M50x are way too weak with sub-bass for electronic music mixing and I'm thinking about m60x but I am not sure if this will be an upgrade when it comes to low frequencies. Also, aren't they less comfortable during long sessions?
Between the two, i would get the M60X. Treble on the M50X is unbearable, like it was piercing my ear drums, to the point i had to listen to the M50x at low volumes. When buying a headphone, do not just rely on the internet reviews. Go to a store where you can listen to several headphones. Bring your own music sources. Spend the time comparing how the headphones sound. At the end decide which one sound best for you and make the purchase.
The Beyerdynamic Aventho Wired are a very nice-looking, portable on-ear pair. They are much more portable (and expensive) than the ATH-M60x, but who knows if they actually sound better... would be interesting to check. Thanks for your tests!
listening with my m60x here, i tested both in the shop, mulitple points wrong here: 60s are lighter, and have a more comfy fit (less pressing force onto the skull) also, sound leakage of the 50s is way louder than the 60s. sound wise: the 60s sound more. you hear more different sounds in the song be that high or low frequency, the 50s have boosted bass region, which makes em sound like any cheap music headphones. as he contradicted himself at 11:00 "the m50 pack more bass" how he manages to say they are more balanced in the same sentece is beyond me :D
I stepped on my 14 year old ATH-M50s a few weeks ago. They did break sometime last week, but they at least initially survived being stepped on with my full weight. They were also the lightest and most comfortable headphones I have ever used. Now I'm debating if I want another pair, want to step up to a ATH-M60X or ATH-M70X or try the Beyer Dynamic 770 Pro just cause I'm curious.
I just bought the 60's to test against my 50's.. Personally I don't care for the 60's.. They sound a bit boxy and the bass was a bit muddy. I listened to multiple high end mixes. One was Crash by Dave Matthews Band which is very well recorded. Metal, classical.. etc. I just feel the 50's are warmer and have better spatial abilities.. Plus the 60's being small and not going over the ears was a no go for me as well. They immediately felt uncomfortable. Maybe I just have big ears lol.. Great review guys!
My M40X (which i loved) headphones broke, after several years of daily usage. They lasted long enough for me to purchase replacement "earpads". I decided to move up to the M50X and they deliver so much better sound than the M40X. When the current M50X bite the dust, gonna spring for the M70X in the series... maybe. I don't think I can justify the extra cost when my ears enjoy the 50 just fine.
It's weird, I know if it's because I have one perforated eardrum, but the M50X even being more clear and more deep, I got tired so fast, in the other hand M40X can listen all day.
You do acknowledge that both headphones can be used to answer calls/speak on phone right? try it out, difference being that you have to manually answer the phone but transmission works perfectly.
Wait what? I thought these two didn't came with mic? If you mean answering calls using phone mic but outputing the call audio to headphone is indeed doable. Otherwise, it won't be able to without additional mic, no?
i wish i could've watched this before buying the m60x. the swivel heads are really big for transport and carrying all around. Thanks for this review. ill definitely keep my m60x on the studio and get the m50x for travel and work on to go.
Best review i have seen online. You should do phone audio output too(not speaker), no one does that. I know phones are not audiophile grade but still you can carry them everywhere.
Just placed an order for m50x because 60 version is 70£ more expensive. This will be my first headset that is not gaming. Gonna compare to hs50 and corsair void Pro for fun

Excellent review. I guess I will stick with my m50x. Are the Sennheiser 6XX/650 really amazing? I currently have HD598 and love them too. I like open back cans more than closed back so I was considering upgrading to the 6XX next time Massdrop puts them on sale. But I'm wondering if they are significantly better than the HD598 or just marginally better?
ATH-M50x is more durable??? Mine broke in only 10 months of use. Not only did one side snap the other side snap'd too. I was so fucking gentle with them it wasn't even funny, if i knew i was going to be rough while moving about i would use my backup headset, but still while being gentle the earpads peeled and the hinges snapped on both sides. Like for real thats horrible quality. I at least expected the ATH-M60 with no joints and metal instead to be more durable but maybe im going crazy.
Thanks for the review and the listening through the headphones, I do own a pair of M50x and the difference between the two seems really huge through the microphone, M60x sound really muffled compared to the 50x, I also do not understand why they stick with those god awful earcups, they are the most uncomfortable thing in the world, if you do get a pair, also grab some big earpads (try to get thin ones so the sound doesn't change too much)
i got the m50x the headband leather part & ear cups comes off after 4-3 years of used..i changed the ear cups to another ear cups.. but the head band doesn't change? i would get the m60x but they don't fold up..i wish they did. plus i wear glasses ..
One thing I for sure disagree on is that the leakage was "better" on the m50x. Doesn't make any sense, I literally heard nothing from the m60x and when it switched to m50x I heard a small part of the music. I'm probably gonna buy the m60x because of the on-ear design
I can't wear on-ear headphones for 10 minutes because of how uncomfortable they feel on my ears. It's either over-the-ear at home or simple earphones on the go if I'm just listening to the music.
The ATH-M50x is definitely not durable at all!!! Maybe durable for someone wearing it once a month for 10 minutes? Within 14 months, my ATH-M50x plastic swivel cracked and the padding liner material on the ears and head have mostly flaked off. However, this headphone was the best sounding headphone I ever owned. I don't understand how @5:15 we can listen to the headphones? Doesn't there have to be an audio out from the headphones to listen to the headphones place a mic to the headphones I don't see how that would work?
The M40X is great. I bought it over the 50X because it has a flatter frequency curve and isn't bass heavy like the 50. The only thing I would improve is adding more cushion to the ear pads because after hours of wearing them with my glasses it would be uncomfortable and my ears would feel pinched between the phones and the glasses.
Hi, Great video! Thumbs up! What headphones would you guys recommend for DJ use, specifically electronic house/techno music. In the same prise range as these you just reviewed. Thanks in advance.
The M60x has a different housing than the M50x. The ear cups are also much smaller yet deeper than the M50x. A simple ear-pad change could make the M50s (or any headphone) sound drastically different, let alone reinvigorating the entire headphone.

Zeos said so much about the m60x... Just by the first sound test i would never buy this POS. Terrbile sound signature, i think that M50x has a more musical soundprofile than the 60, i wonder if those extreme dips on both make people put the volume higher while listening then having hearing problems later in life.
Like what? That headphone X sounds good? Well, he says that about a lot of headphones ... with an affiliate link first thing in the description. Plus what feels like an hour of incoherent and interrupted rambling. Horrible. Don't understand why anyone would watch such shit.
How did zeos love these m60x and dislike the m50x? I suspect he's full of the brown stinksauce in his reviews. The m50x are great, probably better than sennheiser hd600 tbh. The bass is stronger, the highs seem Fuller and less crackly than the hd600. The hd600 probably has the better midrange but the m50x is a very good midrange. I can't think of anything better than m50x tbh. Monolith m1060 has better bass and mids are warmer but the highs aren't as good as m50x. Overall m50x is my reference headphone.
John Butner People would be much better off if they didn’t put so much stock in some random guys opinions and instead tried things for themselves and formed their own opinions. He’s just another guy trying to make money doing videos. All RUclips channels are. I have the M50x’s also and think they’re great. I’ve passed up and returned much higher end headphones because I thought my M50x’s sounded better. Many products get hyped for the wrong reasons but the M50x’s actually earned theirs.
@@festushaggen2563 Longish comment but whatever. I just returned a newly purchased MSR7 which many people including Zeos raved about. It was too damn bright and the subbass was anemic. It left me with the impression that people who love the MSR7 can't hear high frequencies well so they enjoy that treble spike it has. I love high frequency detail as I have RAAL ribbons in my living room. And I'm not a bass head by any means as I find myself turning down the bass on most every closed headphone/iem I touch. My car is near flat and places in SQ comps. I like flat because to me, flat means accurate. I've owned the M50 since maybe 2009; headband and pads all mangled. It remains one of my favorite headphones and I never feel the need to reach for the EQ with them. They're not nearly as V shaped as people claim. My ears heard that long before my eyes saw a graph confirming it. There's a reason these headphones fall at 6th on Rtings for closed back critical listening. While they don't have the best soundstage, they are close to accurate with their frequency response and my ears like that.
We’d love to hear more about what makes you feel that way. On our end though, it’s really important to us that our reviews represent the same experience users will have (which is why we make sure to by all of our own products). We also base our reviews on our subjective measurements to try and mitigate any risk of personal bias’ being a factor!
Indro Laksono no it doesn’t. Not in reallife.you can’t judge what headphones sound like from a video. The m50’s are the opposite of muffled. They’re too bright
@@WillJukedTheBox l know. I'm just exaggerating. Lol. M50x, IMO, is rather u-shaped. With the mid slightly behind lows and highs. I'm not complaining though, its a good headphone.
Where do you see music being represented by numbers? You don't seem to know what you're talking about. You do understand that hi-fi is about accurate sound reproduction, right? This review quantifies the quality of the headphones in an objective and verifiable way. This includes build quality, comfort, and quality of reproduction. What you see here should be the baseline for every audio component review.
They didn't just drop you one too many times... I got shut down? Ahaha, you're utterly delusional. YOU have evaded what I asked you. You really don't have a clue, do you? The audio equipment here is for reproducing audio faithfully. That is what hi-fi is all about. Faithful reproduction necessitates an even frequency response, low distortion, etc. Without those "numbers" (as you ignorantly call them), you will never be able to faithfully reproduce music or voice or instruments or any other kind of sounds. It will change the timbre, change the tonal balance, distort it, and so on. What you're basically saying is: screw quality of reproduction. Either you're listening with crappy $5 earbuds or with crazily expensive headphones that are shit technically or sound shit .. which you enjoy. That's fine, but why don't you go play with the other ignorant kids that also don't care and let the grown ups discuss things which you clearly don't understand?
I'm a sound enginer worked on both concerts and recordings studios all my life and used so many headphones and models from so many brand I will never buy or use any audio technica headphones cause theses headphones cannot produce good sound.

Zeos said so much about the m60x...
Just by the first sound test i would never buy this POS.
Terrbile sound signature, i think that M50x has a more musical soundprofile than the 60, i wonder if those extreme dips on both make people put the volume higher while listening then having hearing problems later in life.
What extreme dips are you talking about? What terrible sound signature? It's quite similar to the M50x....
"Zeos said so much about the m60x..."
Zeos talks a lot to sell and make money but doesn't say anything substantive. Also, nobody gives a sh!t.
Sorry, he does, and people do give a shit, and much more to him.
Like what? That headphone X sounds good? Well, he says that about a lot of headphones ... with an affiliate link first thing in the description.
Plus what feels like an hour of incoherent and interrupted rambling.
Horrible. Don't understand why anyone would watch such shit.
They do..
I noticed it immediately after starting to use them several years ago. It's still the best replacement for the Sony MDR-700's.
so weak are the m60x
M50x leaked more there
Lmao the m50x is definitely leaking more wtf?
I personally think its a flub and meant to say m50 rather than m60.
Are the m50x good for listening to hiphop, i mean is the bass ok?
Ngl seems hella biased 👎🏾
We’d love to hear more about what makes you feel that way. On our end though, it’s really important to us that our reviews represent the same experience users will have (which is why we make sure to by all of our own products). We also base our reviews on our subjective measurements to try and mitigate any risk of personal bias’ being a factor!
Zeos hate the M50x :)
M50x sounds so muffled like a cheap xiaomi piston IEM. Only suitable for kids with their EDM music.

Music cannot be represent by numbers on headphones.
Music is art and art is not numbers. So sit down kid lol
Your parents seem to have dropped you one too many times. This is a technical review of audio equipment, not a review of music.
In case you dont know audio equipment is for music. You just got shut down LoL
What do you use then?
Ossic X its the best headphones ever made in the planet u must try it then u know whats good sound or real sound all about
