Just observed this guy has grown from 35k to almost 77k subscribers :D good going! This was a great review, thank you!
Great video!
One thing that I would have loved to see (or more accurately, hear) would be comparison between these headphones and other headphones, including some mainstream headphones and a pair of studio reference (audiophile) headphones...
To hear if there is a difference...
i find the 50's a tad too trebly and lacking a bit of mid bass punch. also kinda bulky with the plastic
I bought the original m50s way back in 2013 and I still have them these seem like a nice upgrade i will most likely use these at work
Really great review. Gives me all the information I need to make an informed purchasing decision. Thank you :)
Glad it was helpful!
listening to this video through a pair of the m50xbt2's i just picked them up... man, they are clean sounding... also comfortable. bought them on a quick google search...
Been scouring the internet for a used pair of the M50xBT's, stunned to see that the new version released a week ago. thanks for the video.
I've had wired M50's for a couple of years and I love them. Hadn't had a good pair of headphones before so maybe the constrast was more profound as a result. Gifted them to my dad the other day cos he's hard of hearing and he's finding them very helpful for watching television. Getting the BT2's now to replace mine looking forward to being able to move about and take phone calls.
And how good is the sound quality? Does it lose anything in quality? Do you use it with any dac or dap?
Thank you for covering this.
Another great review 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
I ordered these. I cant wait any longer for them to arrive!!!!
Great review guys, again.
Finally upgrading from my ATH-770's open back. Its been awhile since I've bought a closed back and used a pair of AKGs for a long time I have always liked my audio technica headphones for desktop use I finally bought these due to the fact they finally went TYPE-C!!! Also unlike the ATH-770s the MX50 models have a lot of replacement parts and ear cup replacements I look forwards to using these for years to come!
Great review. Thanks.
I have the previous bluetooth version, and I think I might get this updated version just for the usb C and multipoint connection. Great review mate, cheers!
Good video that quickly shows how to use these headphones. These are great for the price.
This is a very helpful video. Thanks for making it. One question: If I use the app on my phone to adjust the equalization (say, Treble Enhance), does that new setting carry over to using the headphones while wired to my vintage stereo? Or does the EQ setting only affect music that comes through the phone that the app is installed on?
Tws buds and headphones do typically retain EQ settings even when not connected to a supporting app. This is the case for my Soundcore Q35s - tune them fairly flat on the app, then pair to PC and fine tune my music etc. It's actually a very powerful ability to internally tune BT headphones however you like.
Well done, well rounded review, thanks.
Very good review.
The battery life is so good to the point that if you are using the headphones for 8-10 hours a day then you would only have to recharge them once every 4-5 days! :)
Is that so in practice or only in theory? Like, do you speak from experience?
@@Nitidus
I got my pair a couple of weeks ago so that was in theory but I can confirm that I only have to charge them once every five days as they are currently at 30% after using them for 7-10 hours a day since I last fully charged them on Thursday last week! :)
@@Techno-Universal Very nice, thank you and enjoy them! :)
I use headphones for 60 hours per day..
these are junk
@@ac3d657Sarcasm to the max
it was interesting listening to the sound quality of the bt2 from my own pair of bt2s.
Just recently buy this can..impressive sound quality.clearer than my sony 1a. And xm4..woww amazing.internal dac ak4331 really make this headphone another level on Bluetooth can
Great review, gonna make me buy it
Bought ath m50x around 2008. Maybe it's time for me to buy this on 2021!
Thanks for a good review. It seems that the non BT version are more balanced Soundwise.
I have a question:
What it the name of the Headphone stand? It looks very nice and I havent been able to find it
I
thanks for this. how would you rank the Audio-Technica ATH-SR50BT against this model?
Great review !!!
Would you choose the AT50X (cable) over Seinheisser 596 ?
Thank 👍
I can find replacement earpads for these more commonly than any other brands. Also I can get them in different materials, which is great for people with leather allergy.
I have the m50x wired love them soooo much. Are these basically the same headphone
Lots of good info. Would of liked to know how they do during a phone call.
Would you say there's no difference between these and the wired ones to work in a studio?? Like to record vocals for example??
What do you think about this AudioTechnica model compered to the Dali io4 ?
Thanks for the review, really helpful. And thank-you for the Ibiza recommendation. That's an awesome album.
Any review for the mic performance?
I recently tested the yamaha L700a and I was blown away by the sound. Because of the high price I'm looking for an alternative. I read that with mx50bt2 the experience is very similar. What do you think?
Great reviews btw
I highly recommend it! I own one🎉🎉🎉
Great review Jonathan! You seem to be the first review on RUclips. I'm left with a few questions:
- How good is the low latency mode? What delay should I expect both broadcasting and receiving?
- How good is the enhanced vocal clarity? Any chance of an example recording?
- Can the multi point pairing functionality be used to quickly switch between two audio sources rather than having both active at the same time?
Latency needs a deep cover, I have the previous gen. while they sound amazing and have held up great for music consumption, but the bluetooth delay is too much for competitive gaming and ruins alot of immersion.
@@Berxy love how this comment is liked but not answered
Yes, I really miss the microphone test here since this is a deal-breaker if ain't working properly.
@@Tibug I have the headphones and the mic works fine on mobile devices, it's not the greatest but it's definitely usable. However with a PC I've found that it hasn't been working at all without any latency and I can't even hear anything because the mic is only usable in hands-free mode, which forces the headphone part into it also where it suffer from great latency. This is most notable when using discord. I am about to buy a seperate mic, because I am currently using my old headset's mic due to this one not doing what I need to.
@@josepi3213 Thanks for the clarification! I would mainly use the microphone for phone calls outdoors so the delay is not really important to me.
I don't understand, what "hands-free mode" is but I found some microphone recordings here: www.rtings.com/headphones/tools/compare/audio-technica-ath-m50xbt-vs-audio-technica-ath-m50xbt2-wireless/709/27588?usage=20&threshold=0.10#comparison_377
Hi sir !!!! First, you done a great job in this video (sorry for bad english i live in Quebec city, where we speak french). I have a question for you:
I have the xm4 Sony. I don’t want to bring them to the gym because they always fall off. So i want a good headphones for the gym. I tried a lot of headphones, but i don’t find the GRAAL for the gym. I always look to the x50bt2 at best buy, but i am wondering if they would be a good choice for the gym, because they don’t have ANC. So can you give me your opinion on that 😃
I want first, an excellent sound and a lot of volume (i tried the bose 700 with my iphone and i returned them because they don’t sound, they need a boost in the max volume).
So, i would appreciate if you answer to me, thank you sir
How do these compare to the Sony WH-1000XM4?
Does the internal microphone still work with a cabled connection?
Any inside intel on Sonos having headphones anytime soon?
Is mic working on wired mode? This is usually the deal breaker when bt/wired combo headphones was on offer
Thank you for, going extra to explain, but I had HD 350 , those were the most comfortable headfones, I love Audiotehnica, so I will by a pair..
Hi Thanks for the review. I have a question.Does the mic work when connected through wire. Also how is the directional sound quality while playing FPS games for clear audible foot steps ?
Thanks
These are stereo headphones. They don't have surround capabilities on their side. Nowadays, though, most game developers create the spatial surround capabilities on their side. So the game would need to support it. The advantage there is that it works for any headphones, even classical stereo ones.
How is the sound quality compared to the wired ones?
Thanks for this comprehensive review. I have a few questions though:
* If I connect something like the V-Moda BoomPro Mic into the 3.5mm jack, will that microphone work?
* Do these work as a USB headset (i.e., if you connect them via USB to your computer, do they show up as a headset)?
* Do the inbuilt mics work if you connect via the supplied 3.5mm cable? Does turning on the headphones change that answer?*
* Is a 3.5mm to 6.35mm (1/4") adapter included?
I'm deciding between this one and Yamaha yh-e700a, any advice? ;D
So how are they when compared to the workhorse that is the ATH-M50s?
For those who wanna upgrade from M50xBT to BT2... there is no difference in sound quality via cable or BT. So basically if other things does not interest you, then you can easly skip BT2s. I am pairing my M50x's with iPhone 14 Pro. BTW M50xBT2 are so much better than AirPods Pro 2... ;o) The difference is... HUGE.
I agree, i cant use my airpods pro 2 anymore at home LOL
Are these a step up from the ath ar5bt?
How do they compare with the wired M50X on sound quality?
Do they still have the issue with the earcup retention tabs breaking that the M50x’s have?
No more touch to activate Siri… now it’s an actual button. Also the rocker power button, infamous for breaking on v1 has been changed to a toggle button! Huge upgrade.
Where this headphones are made?
I found the same model made in different countries! Is there any difference?
I just wish these had an ambient mode.
Does the mic work when the headphone is used as wired headphones?
i love ur video bro
Would you recommend them for any sort of music production or would the wired version be much better?
That’s what I wanna find out
Ok. So I've decided to get this. Was going to get the Klipsch HP-1. But so much better value these.
Is there noice canceling/ reduction settings?
Received these M50x BT2 a few days ago and out of the box the sound quality is excellent. They definitely exceeded my expectation for the price and I've not even bedded them in yet. What would be a considerable upgrade in sound quality for Trance music on these (I don't need Bluetooth necessarily).
Probably Bluetooth like momentum 4. Wired, Akg k371, but these are not as bassy however very very detailed and clear
What is noice cancelling ? Is that ok?
its good for gym/traveling?
I have to say, I use the M50X series for 10 years, but they always break around 4 years of use. I do take them with me, like everywhere, so for the price range that's not bad. But no, 10 years of usage from this headphone is not something I would expect.
Can you change the battery? Where can I buy new battery?
I really miss just one thing, detachable microphone for work from home. That would be perfect set of features for me.
How do you mean detaching the mic?
@@RaphyJmusic audio technica themselves have cans with detachable mics, for example the ATH-G1
Was just thinking of getting the M50x BT gen 1, turns out the new one just came out lol. I'm definitely getting these instead.
I just ordered a pair directly from their website for 200E. AT really chose the most sensible way of upgrading their cans. "We're ace at battery life, wait, let's give them MORE BATTERY LIFE!" Of course, USB-C. No frills, same durable construction. Looking forward to receiving them!
Did you get them, and if so, what are your thoughts? I'm giving them some serious thought.
@@Theyralltakenfu Not sure if you were asking me but yes, they arrived some week ago. I am very happy with them.
I'm not too familiar with high-end headphones, and I guess the m50x can't be called a "high-end" headphone, but they have a very clear reference sound. The bass isn't very strong - I've considered trying a third-party set of pads (Dekoni Hybrid) since I'd probably enjoy a +3dB or so there - but the sound is very dynamic. Wired they sound even better and the dynamic improves further, even with my trashy sound card. These have motivated me to buy a Soundblaster AE-5 or a DAC.
The battery life is downright incredible. As in, use them all day for three days then fall asleep with the music still on, wake up 8 hours later and suddenly be greeted with "Battery Life: Medium." Build quality is awesome - I work in the metal industry and I feel safe using these at work. It, well, plays what's on the record. If the record is trash, it'll sound like trash. If it's gold, it'll sound more gold. There's no distortion of the sound at all at maximum volume via bluetooth. I really understand why this series of cans are loved by so many.
I highly recommend them. They sound way more expensive than they are.
@@thomasijontichy5651 Thank you for a well explained review.
I’ve heard about the bass sound not being everyone’s liking, but can you adjust that a bit using the app that has the equalizer. If not, I’d probably look on YT for help and suggestions. It sounds like you already have some good ideas though. Thanks again and have a great weekend. 👍
@@Theyralltakenfu Do not get me wrong. There is nothing wrong at all with the bass, they're just not "Beatz" headphones. And I much prefer them being that way, it's just a tiny bit more oomph would suit me.
I have noticed burning them in makes them sound even better and for some reason the bass is getting louder, so I'll hold off on buying any extra pads until that's over with. Yes, you can adjust a little with the EQ, not a lot; they certainly can't be made to deliver the absolute brain-numbing bass of my earlier Denons, but those sounded like trash in comparison.
How does the M50x's bass compare to Skullcandy crusher evo's?
Good review. I think it would be useful to know which bluetooth codecs does this headset support. Thank you very much.
No aptx, only SBC, AAC and LDAC. The old BT did have apt x though so this is a real downgrade.
Your buddy knows they sell replacement ear pads on their website right? My headband is worn but I replaced the ear cushions
Can you please compare this with Ultrasone Performance 880?
Really wish you had a sample of the microphone Quality, its important for online meetings.
Its a good review but I was looking for that as well :/
headphone quality is underwater sounding and pretty much unintelligible
unfortunately, there are around 25 pounds prices different between the first and second versions in my local store. Maybe because of a limited stock for now. Great reviews, thanks.
The second version has some significant improvements, though.
Time to work overtime for 25 more quid
Does it have any water protection?
Hi there. Can you help me choose between m50xbt2 and m50x . Which one is better? Im looking for this headphones only because od bluetooth. But if you say they don't have noice cancelling i would rather go for M50x and deal with wires lol
Can you please answer?
Can I use these for music production? Atleast using them wired with my laptops and no audio card?
What about wire ? I need to connect it to my interface too ?
When I heard they would be releasing a new BT model, I was actually hoping that they would release an M40x bluetooth headset at a slightly lower price
I got the M20xBT, they are terrible, boring, strong but very sloppy bass, no soundstage. Replacing then for these, I'm excited. I will imagine that the m40xbt will be produced in the next few years which is better because they are the best sounding and then would benefit from newer technology
Can it be used with no charge via the 3.5 mm wired connection?
I got a pair sounds great but the BT is not up for the task running input and oput at the same time,
there is no alternative connection that can run both at once(no radio dongle? mic not wired up for use with cable, don't support usb connection.)
so can't use it with the pc for communication the sound quality is too low when using the "hands-free mode",
FYI mine also turns off while charging.
so they are good for listening i might just return them and get the one without BT and use a exrernal mic and get some money back.
Does it gives output as wired m50 paired with amp DAC.
I just bought a set of these and waiting on delivery in the next 2 hours. They will be replacing my old (and very faithful) Sony V600s. I'm tired of a cable hanging over my shoulder.
Aww man I got the gen 1s last year. They're still good so I'm not gonna get these but these are next up
So I got the blue ones, so curious. I feel like the volume is really low and quality of the audio is horrible compared to my first set which were the gaming head set
Just ordered a pair of these and I'm hoping they will be louder than my current pair of JBL over ear headphones. I am concerned with sound quality but also with volume. Most just aren't loud enough. I'm hoping these will be.
Great review
How are they?
@@cristify4206 I'm pretty happy with them. Sound quality is good and they will go loud enough to be slightly painful but not super loud. I use them to practice drums and they work well for that. Biggest complaint is that they don't seem to stay on my head well unless I wear a cap or skull cap.
My long hair may be causing that problem though. Overall I'm pleased with them.
m50x BT gen 2 or momentum 4 in audio quality?
Debating on these or the Sony XM4
Can I use them on cdjs with a 3.5mm coiled cable
Is there something similar sounding with noise canceling? I have the wired M50x’s, but I want these for travel, so noise canceling would be nice. I also have issues wearing these with glasses.
This headphone looks sleek!
how good is it for gaming
Wish they would have added noise cancellation
Can they be used in office, for calls and so on ?
I was considering buying the Sennheiser Momentum 3 headphones until a Canadian reviewer who was reviewing the momentum 3 Vs ATH-M50xBT commented about the Momentum 3 BT connection kept dropping off, so now I am deciding if I should go for the M50xBT. Any problems with the BT disruption?
I have the Momentum 3's. The sound quality is very average. Great build quality but I wouldn't recommend the Momentum's.
The momentum 4 are almost very good except bass is disgustingly overblown, sadly rap has ruined the headphones industry. They're that bad even after EQ down.
One of the best reviews I've seen, thorough and professional. Delighted to see your site has them for the best price around... sold!
forget the B&W and B&O , these are a serious headphone they are wonderful, the Ldac is another league, also the soundstage is increable for a enclosed headphone, these are nothing like the originals, dont expect
shuddering bass these are neutral like the M40X well done audio technica you have brought lovely bluetooth Audio without the noise cancelling hype, just pure audio as good as you will get via bluetooth.
These may be perfect for me considering I use and prefer the M40X for listening since I'm monitoring my audio recordings with them. Being able to run them BT or wired is perfect since I doubt wireless would be a good idea when I'm recording or mixing.
when you say "nothing like the originals," are you meaning/ describing the M50xBT's, M50x, or even perhaps the old M50's? I'm trying to understand this space. Thank you.
You can EQ them with their app
can you connect to more than 2 devices via bluetooth?
What was the first song that was played?
The most notorious weak point of M50 family are spare speaker drivers which are kind of unobtanium. Most headphones have 40 or 50 mm speakers, M50 has 45mm ones. I'm a repair freak trying to use equipment as long as possible for the sake of eco-friendly consumerism minimization. So when the speaker driver in my wired M50, that I used for 8 years, was broken I was very upset. Hope that old M50 will be a spare parts donor for M50XBT.
I'm not repairing headphones, I'll just buy 2 to have a spare
I'm torn between the M50x vs BT2's. I'm going to be using them for mixing/mastering etc, but it would be nice to have some headphones for the gym too. So that would knock out two birds with one stone for me there, but would I be sacrificing quality when I'm using them at home? How different is the noise cancellation/isolation on the M50X vs BT2?
Would I be able to connect the BT2's to my audio interface? Granted, I have the adapter
There are other videos on RUclips that compare the 2 within a EQ graph, and are virtually the exact same when plugged in with the wires. While using Bluetooth there will be a slight decrease in quality but when using wired the sound quality are the same.
That's a really helpful comment. I was also wondering that when used wired does the sound quality match the non blue tooth M50x.
The only reason I am looking for a wireless headphones is
I have the m20x (which is really good for about $50) but they're wired so... Just wanted a wireless
Not sure if anyone can answer me this but on the original m50xB you get supplied a inline mic on the cable, I only use this cable on my Mixer but I’ve never used that microphone attachment on the cable. On the newer M50xBT2 you don’t get the inline microphone attachment on the cable, what is this for? I use a iPhone with lightening connection so my only way of speaking is over Bluetooth so I don’t use that cable. So either way a cable with the inline or without I just want to know what that attachment is for?
I know this comment is 2 years late but, I really need to know if you can use the BT audio and the 3.5mm audio at the same time.
I want to get a pair or headphones that I can DJ mix with, while still be connected to my computer via BT. And hear both audios, I know the bt audio is not gonna be the best quality.
10:20 Thanks, you didn't pause the video on my alexa enabled hp pavillion
