Good comparison. I have the m50x-bt for just over 10 days and here's what I feel about them. Pros: 1. Great sound: in many of the songs I've been listening for years, I can hear more detail and in some cases I've heard instruments that I completely missed earlier. 2. Superb battery life: I have these headphones connected via Bluetooth for about 5 hours every day. I had to charge them only once after 7 days. I don't know how much these were charged out of the box, but even if they were at 100%, the battery life is very good. Cons: 1. Clamping force is slightly strong, but I can still have these on for ~2-3 hours at a stretch. 2. There's a slight sound leak. It's not very strong to distract anyone nearby unless they're either very close to you or they're concentrating really hard to hear what you're listening to.
Con 1. Gets better over time, you were too soon making this hands-on claim. The clamping force gets better (read: less) after 1 month of usage, you can stretch them a little bit but be very careful. Con 2. Memory foam needs a little bit of time to get adjusted to your head. Also too soon for this claim. The leakage will get less over time (and then after a while worse again when they wear out). Also these headphones don't need a lot of volume to sound good, so protect your ears and don't listen on maximum volume. To improve on Con 2. get a pair of brainwavz pads, it will improve low-end as well, though clamping force might feel a little bit higher until they are adjusted as well. Been rocking M40x since they got out, then I got m50x and now I also got the bluetooth version. I swear by these monitors if you are on a budget / not willing to pay more than €200/€250. So, after 3 years, have con 1 and 2 been improved for you? I really recommend upgrading your pads though, the standard pads for the cups aren't too great to be honest.
@@sloppyprogrammer4373 unfortunately I lost these headphones and got a pair of Sony XM3 instead. My last memory of these headphones was very good though and I would recommend this to anyone who isn't looking to buy Sony or Bose

My M50x's have served me well, but they have gotten really worn out over the years. On the aesthetic side, the thin plastic layer finish has cracked off over time on both the earmuffs and the band - Entirely in the case of the ear muffs, entirely underneath the band, and partially on the top. It pretty much deteriorates faster where it comes in contact with your head. Fortunately you can replace the earmuffs, but one may want to consider trying to protect the band itself. On the mechanical side, things have really deteriorated. A plastic part which ensures that the actual cans stay glued around your ear rather than jetting outward from your head somehow broke. I don't know if some abuse caused this to happen, or if it happened under normal use, but they have dropped on the floor a number of times. It was pretty devastating that they broke in this matter, because they are great headphones otherwise. However it was still able to fix it. The fix I came up with was to rig up the cans with wire and some tension to make them stay in place, to act as a replacement for the plastic part that prevents the cans from swinging backwards. The latest mechanical problem seems to be the stock wire the headphones come with. It has become flaky such that the left earphone goes in and out. Fortunately it can be replaced with both the stock and and arguably higher quality non-stock cables. I have been able to use the M50x headphones for a long time, but they have definitely been through a lot. I have only managed to extend their lifespan by specially rigging them up in a somewhat awkward looking but reasonably effective manner. I'm thinking it's time to replace with the ATH-M50xBT since it's basically the same thing but offers more.
Im super happy i bought the ath m50xbt headphones and i absolutely agree with your review! Your 100% rite! U forgot 1 thing to metion is battery time for each set. But neways u get 40 hours continuous use off 1 charge with the ath m50xbt headphones in bluetooth mode. Wired dosent use the batterys at all. I seriously feel my ears rattle lol! It tickles my ears sometimes! 😎👍👍
Hard to argue about value for money with the 40x. They're cheap, too. But on both the 50x and 40x you probably want to spend $20 on some aftermarket earpads that are a little deeper and larger so the comfort stops sucking.

I have the DSR and I love the sound. You can actually connect it to your device and you can use it wired but the wire have a USB connector instead of a 3.5mm Jack. I plug it in into my computer or phone and it works with even better sound quality than compared to using it wirelessly.
M50x are great headphones for listening to music and mixing music because they add a bit of colour. So the wireless version is great for those applications too with a little more natural bass instead. M70x is the most accurate and audiophile friendly closed back headphone, with the M40x a great budget alternative to that. Honestly can’t comment on the MSR7 or DSR7 or M60x because I’ve never used them.
lack of ANC is not a con, passive noise cancelling is better. If you know how ANC works you know that destroying the detail in music kind of comes with the territory.
Do they really sound the same on cable compared to bluetooth? Using them in Windows they sound warmer connected with cable, but maybe it is something software-related..
I know the Audiotechnicas would sound more detailed and more forward in overall presentation. I have ath w990bt and the sony h900n both so i can tell you that. Great comparisons, really enjoyed it. Would you know what has better sound quality between Audio technica ath dsr9bt and Beyerdynamic amiron wireless? I read that Beyerdynamic amiron wireless is the best wireless BT headphone?
Sir, can you help me to make a right choice, please ? I like jazz, classic, psychodelic and ambient music... I can't decide between Pioneer S9, Grado w100 wireless and audio technica m50x BT Which one of them would be a better choice to me?
1. How is the soundstage of M50X Bt? I am planning to buy one, but people are complaining that the soundstage is below average. 2. Is AptX good enough to be compared with wired? Since there are way better codecs like AptxHD or LDAC (Sony) out there, which the M50x Bt doesn't have! 3. Is there any latency issue while using the headphones in wireless mode for movies and stuff? 4. How good is the bluetooth connectivity, coz I've seen many headphones start to lose audio quality if there is a wall between the headphone and the source! Thanks.
I would love to know how they compare to the ATH-AR5BT which I have. I like them, but sometimes they tend to be too focused on the highs and the bass may sometimes be too low, but it’s very clear and that’s what I like. I tried the Sony and the sound is garbage in wired mode, which is something that I don’t like, I want the headphones to sound the same both wired and wireless. Also, they sound ok wireless, but no way near as good as the AR5BT. I also owned the M40x and they were very nice, but the soundstage was a bit too cramped
Is this on stage or in studio? The M60x might be less hot to wear in a stage environment because of its on-ear design. You can easily monitor with only one ear as well.
I think hear.on 1 (100aap/100abn) still sounds better than hear.on 2 (ha900). Hear.on 2 sounds so congested on the high and upper mid region... maybe sony want to play it safer this time, but it just make them sounds cheaper than they should be.
He reviewed the ABN's in another channel but like h.ear on 2 they sound bad in passive and depend on DSP. I have MDR-1000X and they sound great wireless, but awful without powered on and wired. The DSP makes it sound better wired but I get some clipping distortion. Wasn't a big fan on the hear.on but it definitely had its strengths against M50x. Unfortunately it was discontinued this year. I was thinking of getting it for a clearance price but instead got Takstar Pro 82. Most annoyed by 2.5mm cable but hey at least I can use cables from my broken M50x!
I ordered the DSR7 precisly because it does NOT have ANC, I really dislike not hearing my surroundings. Is there a reason there are not really any openback BT headphones?
Are there any reasons why someone would choose the m50x over the m50xbt? I want to get one but I'm wondering whether I should sink the extra money for a wireless version.
Hey, I’ve got a question. I’m not a content creator in any sense of the word. So say I just want a set of Bluetooth headphones to use purely for listening to music that won’t break on me in six-to-twelve months, sound all right to a casual listener, have decent battery life, and aren’t over $300 dollars. Would you recommend the M50xBTs for that, or do you think they’d be a less-than-ideal choice for someone who won’t use them for monitoring?
using m50x to see your video,Your opinion is better than other youtuber, just because other youtuber will test hear the headphone even though know the audience just only can see this youtuber to shake his head .hahahaah .you are deserve more subscribers!
@@anunheardtruth3071 dsr9bt are out of my budget.. i am looking at ar5bt(aka sr6bt) or dsr7bt that is also reviewed here. I don't know if the double price is worth it, regarding the hissing background sound on the dsr7bt
Call quality sucks, and they actually recommend we place phone in left pockets since the Bluetooth receiver is in the left ear cup. Audio wise there are no connectivity issues, but call quality is bad
Everyone sees the lack of ANC as a bad thing. But well I just read this so don't know how true it is. ANC apparently collors the sound. Yeah so they would defeet themselves. These are supposed to be a true pure honest sound. So ANC would hurt that. The other cons I have that they didn't mention are no APTX HD nor LDac from Sony. These matter because they are close to HD. I've read that that especially LDac isn't truelly fully at it's full clamed 96 KHZ 24 bits quality. It's close to it but meh no not really. The Audio Guys say this don't know how seriously 1 should take them. But I can't believe Sony would clame LDac is full HD so falsly.
Sal Paul I will add this to my reply if you want clarity and sound, m40x is a great choice. If you don’t really care about that and just want to be drained in a bit more bass m50x is good. I own both but I prefer the m40x.
Lachlan used to be my favorite reviewer for audio gear. No wonder he is now working in a much more professional capacity. Kudos to you man!

2. There's a slight sound leak. It's not very strong to distract anyone nearby unless they're either very close to you or they're concentrating really hard to hear what you're listening to.

There is the Grado GW100! But since most people wear wireless headphones outside they tend to prefer closed back.

Great review! Short, informative and business-like.
Could you do the same comparison between m50xbt and Beyerdynamic Amiron Wireless?
Drinking game: take a shot every time he says M50XBT
😵😵😵
It make sense why M50x (45mm)can produce better bass because driver size difference to M40x(40mm)
Coming back to this video for a second time for reference, and just now catching all the alliteration in the beginning.
Are there any reasons why someone would choose the m50x over the m50xbt? I want to get one but I'm wondering whether I should sink the extra money for a wireless version.
Wired is better, it's not worth the extra bucks especially if it's for indoor listening
Bro, where did you get the shirt?
EB, the Australian equivalent of Gamestop.
Hey! Do you guys know any other brand that makes bluetooth/monitoring headphones ?
In 1.5 velocity sounds really nice, I can understand all
Great comparison video!
I think they are good, but there are maybe more comfortable options worth looking into as well. - Lachlan
great job, thanks
using m50x to see your video,Your opinion is better than other youtuber, just because other youtuber will test hear the headphone even though know the audience just only can see this youtuber to shake his head .hahahaah .you are deserve more subscribers!
Wow -3db is perfect. The clamping force is the only issue I have with them.
Does the headband still flake over time? Or did they change the material..
Ummm the headphones just came out how would anyone know? 🤔
So which one i need to choose if i just want to have easy listening for song and looking for comfort. Ath m50xbt or sony h ear on2 ?
sony
What about the DSR6BT ?
@@anunheardtruth3071 dsr9bt are out of my budget.. i am looking at ar5bt(aka sr6bt) or dsr7bt that is also reviewed here. I don't know if the double price is worth it, regarding the hissing background sound on the dsr7bt
Why did you ignore m20x and 30?
Because both doesn't have detachable cables.
Hi mate, do you have any thought about Yamaha HPH-W300? How this compare to that?
Hi! We haven't had any chance to listen to that one sorry!
@@MinidiscAu ohh it's ok, thank you
Are there any connectivity issues or lag while it is in Bluetooth?
Does it sound similar to AR5BT OR SR5BT. I will take a decision based on this.
Probably not, those two are tuned similarly to MSR7, but not as refined.
For use with a mobile device, would you suggest the m50x or m40x?
Sal Paul m40x I use them everyday best headphones
@@soothsayerslunk1 thank you
Sal Paul I will add this to my reply if you want clarity and sound, m40x is a great choice. If you don’t really care about that and just want to be drained in a bit more bass m50x is good. I own both but I prefer the m40x.
@@soothsayerslunk1 I like bass but not overpowering bass, I prefer a decent amount of bass but prefer clarity more
Sal Paul m40x then you won’t regret it
Video helped alot with my headphone decision thanks
Can you do a review of the MSR7SE
The MSR7SE was a limited edition so we don't have a pair to review, but we will be reviewing the MSR7BL when that arrives in AU! - Lachlan
Case study on an early RUclipsr who was on the boat to success and riches and still managed to miss it altogether.
this sucked, i wanted to see magic spells
