Maybe the ghost ship was a pirates ship that discovered the triforce shard and thought it was some golden treasure. Later they were sunk and re-animated in the ghost ship, forever to have their souls trapped in the boat. I also think the ghost ship chart wasn't made by the people that made the ghost ship, rather someone who discovered it eerily floating on the water and then studied it to make the chart. This doesn't explain why you can't enter the ship without the chart though.
I agree with the ghost ship being Pirates who found the Triforce shard. However we know from Lenzo that the map was made much more recently by somebody who was tracking the ship. Lenzo tells us that "just as he finished drawing the last line on that map, he died a most unexpected death...." it is my opinion that either the ghosts of that ship cursed him to death for tracking them, and out of a bit of spiteful revenge HIS ghost in turn enchanted the map so that it render the wielder immune to certain powers of the Ghost Ship, such as allowing people to board it, further evidence follows up that the Ghost Ship appears at the diamond steppe island on a certain night which means he may have died on that island... it is also my opinion that ships underneath the diamond steppe Island were other ships which the Ghost Ship may have attacked or were not as fortunate in their encounters with the Ghost Ship as Link was... and the ships were attacked and were brought down there by the Ghost Ship while their crew became the misfortunate Spirits we see all around when we're actually within the ship...... I also like to believe that in the original design it was going to be a bit bigger like a mini dungeon.... as for the portrait on the wall, in my original GameCube version it doesn't smile at first until link closes in as if it's getting ready to attack him as he gets close to the treasure chest..... perhaps that is all that is left of the heart of the captain who once commanded the ship....
I love the theory that this ghost Ship It's the same ghost ship in PH, searching for strong life force - what more strong than a triforce shard? But become trapped in great sea after getting the shard
It's possible that those pirates would have been cursed by the goddesses for stealing the shard, condamned to wander the sea protecting the shard until the hero takes it. Might explain the strange properties of the ghost ship chart.
Yeah, like there's a solid theory to build from the different ideas here. The ships under Diamond Steppe could've been originally tasked with hiding the shard/chart, but were beset upon by a fantastic pirate crew with a single ship that managed to sink the three vessels and claim the triforce shard/chart. Then the goddesses cursed them for their greed and theft of such an important object, so now they sail forever onwards as the Ghost Ship, acting as the new protectors of part of the Triforce of Courage. Then we get to the cartographer who made the ghost ship chart. My entry to this theory is he was aware of the Hyrulian Navy's plan or learned of the pirates attack and following curse. He then went to gather all the information he could on the Ghost Ship, should the need of a new hero arise, and started making the chart. I like the mental imagery of him starting and finishing the chart on Diamond Steppe near where you find it, and gets approached by pirate ghosts from the ship to scare him to death, as they are the new guardians of the treasure within. It is here that, perhaps, they become the Floor Masters trying to protect the chart, as an extra layer of defense to protecting the shard. In hindsight, that makes all the players involved (post-curse pirates, of course) technically good, with the ghosts being a little too good at their jobs lol (they were simply trying to protect their new charge, hence the killing of the cartographer).
So this is a little embarressing BUT as a kid on my first playthrough I tried to get on the ghostship by running into it on the king of red lions and it didn't work because I didn't have the chart, so once I got the chart I just assumed I couldn't get in that way, so I waited for the ship to get to a particular island that had a very high peak on it, got onto the peak, changed the wind, and flew onto the ship with the deku leaf all because I didn't know you could just ram into it once you had the chart.
Dude you did the correct way. If anything that’s how he would have done it as that link may not have been the sharpest of the bunch but certainly didn’t lack ingenuity.
In all honesty that’s really cool when you think about it. Because you were younger you may not have correlated getting a key item = you being to access an area. Since you failed trying to ram into it. You found another way.
I find it interesting that the Forsaken Fortress is a single dungeon experience divided across two visits. On the first visit, you get the navigation, puzzle, and small battle challenges. On the second, you get the miniboss, special item, and boss fight.
I was kind of expecting to see a small ship port on the forest island since its a Island full of trees for wood . Wood being important for ship building, infrastructure lumber and firewood with the limited resources the islands have .
An interesting plot line to follow would be Link’s origin on Outset Island. The Hero of Time did not, in fact, come from Kokiri Forest, but Ganondorf may have thought he did. But the Hero of Time was a refugee under the Great Deku Tree’s protection. So was the Hero of Time from the origin of Outset Island? And what was that place? A game exploring the war preceding OOT could be very interesting.
I highly doubt the hero of time and the hero of winds are any chance related because the hero of winds is just a random boy. We actually do see what outset Island would be if Hyrule didn't flood and that's basically Ordon Village from Twilight Princess. There's a chance that the village existed in Ocarina of Time but we just don't go to it, it's where OOT Link settles with a family after all. If it existed in the timeline pre split then it would exist after the split in the adult timeline.
Fun fact: the Deku Tree states when Makar falls into the woods that the Forbidden Woods used to be the home of the Koroks before Ganondorf ruptured it and "conquered" it, which made the Koroks flee to the Haven.
The Ghost ship strikes me as being inspired by a similar such ship in the Shadow Temple of OoT. It gives me some Shiekah vibes in that they love to utilize the dead as tools and weapons. To me, it seems like the Hylian Royals probably gave the Shiekah the task of hiding one of the charts/shards, and this was their solution that they knew would last the longest. That mask is what sinches it for me. The Shiekah love illusions and big smiles AND masks, so that seems like just a cherry on top for those guys.
With the ghost ship's weird face, it could be a representative of the spirits of the ghost ship. If they are the spirits of the old Hyrulean navy as you suggest, then the smile could just be an unfortunately malicious-looking expression of the sailors' joy at finally being allowed rest, now that the next hero has arrived. It changing to a neutral face could also be an element of their navy background, since military often teaches its soldiers to manage their emotions in serious matters, so once the next hero approaches, it turns serious as the spirits prepare for their ascension from their age-long half-existence.

Presuming the Deku sprout never moved after OoT, an argument can be made that the Forbidden Woods are what's left of the Kokiri Village. At least that was how i took it when I played the game.
Maybe the tree trunk around the forbidden forest is actually the old deku tree from ocarina of time, that would explain why they are right next to each other and why it looks like dead, rotted wood.
well initially the creepy face that turning nice when you get close feels like it is trying to trick you. I think personally prefer the interpretation that the Ghost Ship is more of a classic pirate ship that got cursed/haunted by stealing treasures that really should have been left alone. I mean, you notice all the boat guys trying to look for treasure like "the triumph forks" at the bottom of the ocean, right? Don't you think it's plausible that somebody DID actually dredge up a piece of the triforce . . . and found that this shard of the holy relic, fallen into hands greedy with ill-intent, was more than they bargained for? It makes the grotto on Diamond Steppe more of a Long John Silver's "here's the way to get to the terrible treasure I hid, seek it out if you dare" sort of adventure! And I dunno, I just think that I get bored with "all of these places that Link has to visit were pre-ordained and set up specifically by the gods/the sheikah/the hylians of old for The Special Future Hero" explanations for everything. Sometimes, the world has to get to the way that Link finds it all on it's own. Free will and all that. (Also, I don't know that Hyrule actually has a Navy. I could be wrong, but I don't really think that OoT Hyrule was anywhere near the ocean. That's just me nit-picking though.)
My theory about the Ghost Ship is that it wasn't just the Hyrule Navy, but the ship of the royal family itself. After hiding all the other pieces of the Triforce of Courage, they held onto the last piece until they could be sure their duty was completed. Their descendants lived on after their ship sank, but they remained sailors.... until even Princess Zelda herself was a pirate.
10:25 One thing that annoys me about the Wind Waker is it never explains just HOW Ganondorf found out about the existence of these 2 Sages and their purpose. You'd think that they would be a well kept secret. They are never even referenced in Ocarina of Time 3D.
11:53 I think that Ganondorf just teleported Jalhalla and Molgera into the respective Sages Rooms as there seems to be no way for them to enter otherwise.
Thanks guys! I recently found out the hard way not all Zelda fans are into lore (figure that, guess I'm just nerdier than most). I recently started Zelda 2 and would love to hear thoughts on the sleeping Zelda's back story. Personally, I think she's the Zelda from Skyward Sword as her brother declared all subsequent princesses be named Zelda in her honor. Wouldn't make much sense if there were already a whole line of Zelda's.
I always thought Makar and Medli were *both* opposites to the natural element of their dungeons. Medli flies in the wind. Makar grows from the earth. (Also, I think the face above the Ghost Ship chest is symbolic of the ghosts of the dead: scary in appearance at first glance, but sad as you take time to consider their trapped souls. . . I dunno, there's absolutely no reasoning behind this mini-theory, I just think it sounds poetic.)
The Deku Tree in WW is the grown-up Deku Tree Sprout from OoT-remember, WW is set in what is known as the Adult Timeline, and the Deku Tree Sprout was born almost immediately after Adult Link vanquished Phantom Ganon and purified the Forest Temple in OoT.
HEY! Thank you for making this, this game has been a favorite between me and my brother! Though out of the two of us I am the Lore Whore, it's just, this is one of the original versions that we both have played, it has brought me back
Why do some Zelda canonical researchers like to say the wind waker link isn't an actual incarnation of a Hyrulian hero of courage? What makes him at all any different or as they like to imply, less important than any other incarnations of Link?
I am not sure why people would say he isn’t an incarnation of the hero, but the King of Red Lions thought he was the Hero of Time reborn, but then told Jabun that this wasn’t the case.
I'd actually like to propose that the Forbidden Woods are what's left of the deceased Deku Tree from Ocarina. Due to the proximity between both islands, it would make sense that the same fate would meet both of them, due to the Forbidden Woods and Forest Haven having similar outward appearances. This also credits things like the Kokiri symbols on the doors, which allude to the Kokiri's prior inhabitance of the area
17:51 If it is ghost in picture. he/she show scary face is to protect item inside the chest. he/she recognize hero and change picture to more normal face when hero move near.
I love the ghost ship. It's so mysterious, and the ghost texture from Mario 64 is around the outside. I always imagined the captain of the ghost ship is Tetra's mother, to be honest.
_"The only purpose the fortress serves following this is to allow Link and the King of Red Lyons easy access to and from Ganon's castle in Hyrule via the dark portal that Ganon originally used to enter the world above the sea."_ Sure, if you consider having to make your way to the northwestern corner of the map, to which you can't warp, and the closest you can come to doing so without being trapped inside the Mother-and-Child Island cave is like four squares away, every time you want to use it. It's the most inconvienent easy-access entrance I've ever seen.
Id like to propose my own theory for the forbidden woods. That being the forest haven is the deku tree sprout grown up, and the forbidden woods is the husk of the original deku tree which would explain how it got infestee by monsters so easily as that deku tree was already dead
I would like to say, I figured out just recently that (at least in the original version) (and I only KNOW it works for ice ring isle), if you time it correctly, you can actually unfreeze it right as it refreezes, which extends the time. I also don't know if it works INSIDE the room where you get the iron boots.
Did you ever wonder why or how it came to be called "the fallen timeline?" Ganon found the the hero to be , and he infected the untested hero with temptations. Of finding the gold , and breaking into pieces to be sold as a retirement plan. It's an age of peace , what's the worry?
@Christophe Reynolds , leave a question mark next time , that was confusing. But he did not kill the hero , he was corrupted and turned into two forms. His physical form was turned into the ghost ship from Wind Waker. That was revived by the spiritual parasite that ate away the memory of the hero. It was in Phantom Hourglass , it makes sense.

I am not sure why people would say he isn’t an incarnation of the hero, but the King of Red Lions thought he was the Hero of Time reborn, but then told Jabun that this wasn’t the case.
1:04 I think this is the first time I've seen a RUclipsr get a sponsor from a law firm. First time for everything, I guess. 😆
Didn’t notice the creepy face in the ghost ship tell you pointed out.
Yeah me too, these guys notice everything
Love it.
WW: I love the earth temple
OOT:forest temple
OOT: Spirit Temple
MM: Stone Tower
WW: might need to replay that, can't remember lol
I don't even need to watch this video to instantly like it. I've been waiting for this
Thank god both ur vids r mixed. I couldnt decide which to watch (also was confused y u uploaded sane thing same day lol)
Love how my favorite zelda youtubers collab with each other!!!! ❤❤❤❤
Great collab, I enjoyed this
Yeah boy, first Bandit vid since subscribing!
I think the ghost ship has something to do with bellum from phantom hourglass
Absolutely hyped for the video!!! Bet you did a great job!
The Ghost Ship's interior was originally intended to be larger.
It's so painful watching you (or whoever captured the footage) open the chest on the ghost ship without opening the jars....Arrggg😂
I'll say it here too. Love you and Zeltik, but this style of collaboration is exhausting.
*gets to the ghost ship bit*
"Evidence?"
"I made it tf up"
Always enjoy watching your videos
I'd actually like to propose that the Forbidden Woods are what's left of the deceased Deku Tree from Ocarina. Due to the proximity between both islands, it would make sense that the same fate would meet both of them, due to the Forbidden Woods and Forest Haven having similar outward appearances. This also credits things like the Kokiri symbols on the doors, which allude to the Kokiri's prior inhabitance of the area
Molgera's theme reminds me of saria's song
Awesome video bro!
A Zelda video is the last thing I expected to see a Morgan & Morgan ad 😂😂😅
I love these collab videos 🖤🖤🖤
17:51 If it is ghost in picture. he/she show scary face is to protect item inside the chest. he/she recognize hero and change picture to more normal face when hero move near.
That face on the ship looks kinda like the giant redead statue in the earth temple
I love the ghost ship. It's so mysterious, and the ghost texture from Mario 64 is around the outside. I always imagined the captain of the ghost ship is Tetra's mother, to be honest.
I want a botw styled wind waker game so bad
ur not the only one
19:23 Oh, that's easily explained. Just some manual Mip-map insertion.
I would like to say, I figured out just recently that (at least in the original version) (and I only KNOW it works for ice ring isle), if you time it correctly, you can actually unfreeze it right as it refreezes, which extends the time. I also don't know if it works INSIDE the room where you get the iron boots.
I heard a theory where someone thought that the old Deku Tree may be what's encasing the wind waker's Deku Tree.
Great video, very interesting. Thanks!
I'm subbed to you both 😅 good day for content!
law firm sponsoring zelda video is some unexpected whiplash ngl
Ayo, my boy Little Mac got sponsored by a literal lawyer company. My boy is going places. Couldn't be prouder.
I want the hd remake to get ported to the Switch so bad it’s such a great game that & the ocarina series
Nicely done!
I like this guys voice I really don’t know why he had zeltik read 75% of the script for this video
Oh, you forgot the Saria's house, a great easter egg!
Wait you gotta do a rap jingle. That's the only way I'll trust a lawyer.
Wind water is in a class of its own.
I hope you’ll make a Lore of the Dungeons video for Skyward Sword.
Let's go !
I wonder if the Wizrobe is the corrupted spirit of the original captain of the Ghost Ship before becoming the Ghost Ship.
I just watch Zeltik video about the Lore of the Dungeons - Zelda: The Wind Waker.
The ghost ship has Shadow Temple vibes, dunnit?
I believe the theory where the downfall timeline happens if link can't save Zelda from vaati at the end of the minish cap.
windwaker is my fav game too :)
i giggled alittle when zeltik called Wind Waker his favorite zelda game. no its not, its clearly breath of the wild like every other zelda fan in 2023
Zeltik in another dimension I am wind waker and I love Zeltik
Did you ever wonder why or how it came to be called "the fallen timeline?"
Ganon found the the hero to be , and he infected the untested hero with temptations.
You find the Iron Boots in an ice cave in Ocarina of Time.
