The Day Elvis Died. August 16, 1977. Sylvia of the Sweet Inspirations maybe explained Elvis the best out of the millions of others who felt the loss at the time. On that hot day in August when Elvis died in 1977 Sylvia memorably explained "I made the mistake of calling Elvis boss once, and he quickly corrected me; I'm not your boss, I'm your brother." THIS WAS ELVIS.

Elvis's roots were Country/ Gospel & Rhythm & Blues. He himself said that the first thing he ever heard was The Grand Ole Oprey. His other main influences of course were Southern Gospel & Blues. He literally would've been surrounded by those. Church, porches where neighbours would sit out and pour out their lives....he would've soaked all of that up...and it showed.

@@JamesMasonJFrost21 Of that side of things that Shannon is talking about, yes Austin Butler did a lot of the girl's crush/boyfriend roles; but with his real hair color which is a slightly-brownish blonde; rather than the black hair he obviously had to have here. He also did the Disney series "Wizards of Waverly Place" for a couple of episodes and "Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure" which is a film in the "High School Musical" franchise (The Sharpay mentioned in the title is obviously Sharpay "Evans", Ashley Tisdale's character from those movies - the selfish, saboteur blonde girl). I'm going to be doing a longer comment of my own; but yes he's one of those actors who's 'literally' everywhere; and has been in 'everything', yet is always phenomenal. It's kind of unfair how talented he is because even as a teenager, his performances were flawless. Been a big fan of his for years. But I got to know his talent level because I kept seeing him by accident in other people's projects; there's no escaping the guy. And his performance in this Elvis film along with some other things is a good presentation to the world , and obviously to you, of just why everybody wants him in their content so badly.

(Going to be a long one. Have fun).
I've actually been an Austin Butler fan for years. He's phenomenal in everything he's in. His performances as a teenager were flawless even: (Tons of Disney, and Viacom - including Paramount and Nickelodeon - stuff. Love Tom Hanks of course because, well, I'm a living breathing individual. I also love Dacre Montgomery ("Billy" Hargrove from "Stranger Things") whose playing Steve Binder, you may know enough about Elvis's story to know who that is. Even Helen Thomson (Gladys) has been in a couple of underrated things, and did a good job in those things as has Olivia DeJonge (Priscilla), Kelvin Harrison Jr (B. B. King) and Xavier Samuel whose going to be playing Scotty Moore.
There are a handful of Australian actors in this.
Butler's Elvis impression is also excellent. So different from his real voice - coming from someone who obviously knows what his real voice sounds like, so I was impressed when I saw the trailer. (how it actually sounded rather than the Johnny Bravo impression of everyone tries). Some of the singing's Austin as well, but there are also some Elvis voice tracks in there. Even with Butler getting his 2 years of specialized vocal training for this role and his mannerism training, I'm still impressed with how he carried himself. It'll be cool to see someone who could outshine Hanks in a Hanks film; because nobody else has done that except for Matthew Rhys ("Lloyd" Vogel) in "A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood".
Other stuff I personally know he's done a good job in (not mentioned in the comments): "Aliens in the Attic", "The Shannara Chronicles", DC universe stuff but especially "Arrow". - If Arrow's your thing, he's "Chase" .
Fun fact: At the time I'm posting this, he's the male Vanessa Hudgens has been in the longest relationship with. And she's the female he's been in the longest relationship with. (They're not together anymore though, they're both taken by other people).
Fun fact: Baz Luhrmann's also the one who directed the DiCaprio "Romeo & Juliet" (one of the 'few' good versions of that story), the remake of "The Great Gatsby" (original "The Great Gatsby" arrived in 1974, Luhrmann is only 'slightly' better; that second comment tells you obviously I've seen the original), "Australia"... just some very excellent content. So the man knows his stuff.
Fun fact: "Get a haircut, buttercup" is actually an 'idiom' that was being used here. (In other words, by his statement he didn't mean the words 'in' his statement; he really meant something else - kind of like how when we tell people to step up to the plate, we're not really telling them to go stand next to an object on the floor; although that's how it would translate in another society). (Though that event probably really happened like all the other events shown in this trailer). Yes, he has long hair, but he's "clearly" gay (to the guy who makes the comment, at first) because he was wearing pink and "real men don't wear pink" which is a load of... yeah. But yes the comment was made because of Elvis's attire below his hair not on top of; as you see there a couple of other men with long hair in this trailer and people are perfectly fine with it,. it 'was' homophobic in nature but more so based on a social rule that males should not wear those colors which were seen as feminine.
Fun Fact: The "TCB" in the title card means Taking Care of Business - the acronym TCB would later become the official name of Elvis Presley's corporation. The lightning bolt is significant for 2 reasons. - One is the lightning bolt from Whiz Comics; that introduced the world to Shazam. The other is that Priscilla, his wife, was really scared of this storm that was happening while she was passenger on a plane, and she wasn't a comfortable flyer anyway - and the lightning bolt became a reminder in the Presley household about courage.
Fun Fact: When the real Priscilla Presley was introduced to Austin Butler she was already aware of who he is and said "You have a lot of support" and hugged him and he said it meant a whole lot to him to be let know that he had her blessing. Even made a comment about how surreal it was to look in the pair of eyes that meant the most to Elvis.
Fun Fact: According to Tom Hanks, when him and his wife (actress) Rita Wilson (mainly known for the film "Raise Your Voice" still but has been in tons of things - I do recommend that movie though) were at a dinner with Priscilla, she actually said that Colonel was actually a wonderful man despite being a bit of a scoundrel in some ways and that he actually took really good care of the family.
Fun Fact: Shadie Presley, a young relative who actually has RUclips herself, personally believes the Colonel to be scum though.
And finally, I'm pretty excited for this movie based on concept alone as an Elvis fan, son of a fan and nephew of a massive mega-superfan.

@ James Mason ; Lets put some facts in here for you to consider. 1st : Remember that after WW2 the children-teens of the 30-40's Frank Sinatra generation = who are now called the boomer generation , only had pop music made up and sang by crooners as Andy Williams , Frank Sinatra , Dean Martin , Pat Boone singers who sang boring tweedledeedum songs or covers of black artists who were in the 50's banned and never played on mainstream radio or any audio devices - records - for teens to hear . Why? because of segregation ! So teens of the 50's = youth never heard little Richard , BBKing or so on mainstream radio stations or airwaves cause "black" music was then only available on some hidden AM station / colored music stations to be heard and mostly in only colored neighborhoods . 2nd ; Now here comes a young kid from the South - Elvis - born and raised with and between blacks and raised by them and for that influenced by soul-black sounds and movements , who starts moving his hips ( as black priests would do in churches ) and bringing a fresh new unheard "mix of country-black" sound for the 50's teens to listen to and en masse liked it , to the dismay and anger of their parents = WW2 Frank Sinatra generation , who started - because of the mass hysteria he started with the girls and boys idolizing him as their new pop idol - to call newspapers , tv networks and radio stations to have Elvis banned from the airwaves cause he dared to expose their children to this devilish ' black " sound wich was seen as filth ! So he , as in many other things , Elvis , started this whole youth culture of idol adoration . He was the 1st to dress like blacks do cause he liked their style ! He dressed in colors - pink/yellow "flashy clothes " unseen and done then - drove and bough Cadillacs and earned millions before he was 25! 3rd ; Elvis was also the 1st to be name branded for commercial deals by his manager Tom Parker wich is nowadays normal to have your name on everything , but then , never done before yet Elvis started it . 4th ; Entourage of people = bodyguards etc. He started it with his Memphis Mafia . 5th ; First artist to own a fleet of airplanes when most superstars in the 70's hired them . 6th ; Tom Parker was great for Elvis in the 50's and early 60's but later neglected Elvis and became greedy by owning 50% of everything Elvis made while Elvis still had to pay over his part income taxes . 7th ; Tom Parker did manage to cut as always a better deal for him by " stucking Elvis to the Hilton biggest showroom -3.500 seats - " and making the deal with Paris Hilton's great grand father that Parker could gamble without a ceiling of debt . So Elvis was paying after 1972 also partly every time Tom Parker his gambling debts and Tom Parker had Elvis touring over and over again the same cities and stadiums until he died . 8th ; Tom Parker was an illegal immigrant and had no passport so thats the sole reason Elvis never toured the world. Tom Parker was born in The Netherlands and the city of Breda and named Dries van Cuijk . That 'Colonel" was a honorary title he gave to himself when hustling in the 40-50's at county fairs . 9th ; Yes Elvis did want to fire Tom Parker after 1973 when he found out of his debts etc . Point was Elvis had zero knowledge of financial business and choose to let it go when Tom Parker threatened him with millions Elvis owned him in all sort of bs expenses . 10th ; What was Elvis his greatest achievment people forget nowadays with all this mixing of music styles ? HE DARED IN THE 50'S WHEN THE KKK WAS RULING THE SOUTH OF THE USA TO SING-MINGLE = OPEN THE DOOR FOR WHITE TEENS/YOUTH TO LISTEN TO A BLACK SOUND AND WITH THAT GETTING TO KNOW THAT THERE WAS ALSO MORE DIFFERENT KIND OF MUSIC THEN "white" sound by crooners . AND THAT HE = ELVIS , GOT THE HEAT FROM MAINSTREAM WITH HATE BY HIS FELLOW WHITES , HE TOOK IT AND DARED TO GO ON CAUSE S ELVIS SAID HIMSELF ; " I DON'T DO ANYTHING WRONG '.
