Where the forests slumber, melancholy, exhausted by the frosts,
Lie silent valleys, spellbound by the storms.
How remote to the foreigner, sunk in the dreams of this world,
Must seem this strange beauty, enigmatic but not fortuitous.
The willows, myriad-branched, gaze at the muddy banks,
Where the drowsy water-lilies float on the meanders of the river.
See the slender birches above the expanse of the marshes,
and further way, like a trembling wall, a stand of pines
wrapped in lugubrious dreams.

And today is Good Friday in the Orthodox Church by the way, so its very fitting. Celebrate Easter (Pascha) on a different calendar (Julian)...it does sometimes come together with the Gregorian (Western) calendar if the astronomical factors meet, like last year or maybe it was the year before, but normally, it's different.
