Would love to see a mega live glidebait session and how effective FFS is for a lure that usually runs pretty high. I can imagine how informative it is or even more so when you don’t catch fish! You get to see their behavior and how they intentionally avoided your bait. Awesome video.
I would have done the same but I was lucky enough when I went broke buying it all i figured whats another grand and stepped up to Two solix units and one helix to run the 360. Thank heavens I did that or I would be feeling like you, I always found my 360 to be more useful that the mega live.. with that and 2d i can catch almost anything
From what we have heard, it was the Helix processor (horse power) that was holding everything back. Not sure if thats true but it makes sense. Seems like in todays world, by the time you purchase anything electronic its almost obsolete.
Garmin has done the same thing with units not running the new stuff. When the first LVS 32 came out there were several units that wouldn't support it. Since you are used to Helix sonar you may not be happy with Garmins Si/Di.
Thanks you Tim!!! As always quality video. I really want to upgrade my system with that target lock, because I use my live for like you said fishing structure 90% of the time and it is really useful for a guy like me so I don’t lose $100 bucks a trip to tree tops and what ever else is down there. Appreciate the time you take to put these videos together 💯❤️
Hey Tim did you have to use an adaptor for the live 2 on the live target? I have the target lock system with live 1 (not impressed) wife bought me live 2 for Christmas and I just got it in the mail. Of course we had 10" of ice yesterday when I went fishing so the boat wont be out for a bit 😅 Thanks
Yes, there is an adapter between the target lock and the Live 2 transducer. It's a small piece, but you'll need to order it. Hang in there with that ice, that's a bummer!
@@tacticalbassin thanks for the quick reply, will look into it as I do plan a trip to Alabama soon. As far as the ice I have a snow dog for moving around on that and will be fishing all weekend! Walleye, Stripers, Kentucky Spotted bass 👊 Thanks again
No but all you need is to order a small adapter piece that connects new transducer to the Target Lock. It took maybe 15 minutes to swap out the transducers.
Awesome demonstration of the new MEGA LIVE 2! However, it just reinforces my view that it is no better tool than a side/down imaging sonar. It doesn’t tell you what they are biting on or what color, I am just going to refer to my knowledge of fish, water conditions and time of year, that I have learned from you, Matt and others over the years! I could see a person (angler) spendingtoo much time working to a fish that just doesn’t want to eat instead of looking for fish that wants/needs to feed❗️
It's very effective for locating fish in open water, but it is just a tool. It absolutely does save you $$$ when fishing around heavy cover because you can thread baits past snags, but again, it's just a tool. The impact that quality mapping had on our industry changed the sport forever. We'll see what the long-term mark is from forward facing technology. In its element, it's extremely helpful, but definitely not s requirement.
How about doing a review of the Lowrance Eagle eye9 which is more affordable ( I know it has limitations compared to the high end units but is possibly a good option for the occasional angler )
Theres a bunch of those reviews on YT and its the best and cheapest entry level FFS. However, the clarity on this new setup is absolutely insane and worth saving up the money imo. We know all the competitors will keep releasing upgrades, including budget friendly models. If you plan to keep fishing for years I would put money aside and get a full blown system. I plan on building a portable one I can switch between on my boats.
Its just where he has the sensitivity turned way up. With any imaging, higher sensitivity gets you more "data" but you will also have increased "noise" Itsl's typically easier for the brain to do the noise reduction than it is to not have a return in the first place. Even back with old school 2d sonar, the standard practice was to turn it up until you just start seeing the noise. Then you will have the best ability to see bait, thermocline, and bottom detail information. But with just a little practice your brain can pick up between "junk" and "fish"

I think the XPlore units processor is 2x the processor in Apex. That is really important to me and my style of fishing.
@tacticalbassin I'm thinking this might be getting too advanced for the west coast ocean fishing with how many species and bait types are out there. There's some trips where there were so much bait you could hardly see the salmon marks. I'd sure like to find out though!!! 😄
@@tacticalbassin yes I saw that it was on and that's why I asked since I currently have 360 and looking to add ML2 sometime later this year, Thanks so much for the response. Love your channel.
100% and thank you for noticing. These are incredible tools that can really help us learn more about bass/catch more fish. Conversely, they're also not necessary to enjoy bass fishing whatsoever. We don't advocate for or against, we learn it all, use it all, and most importantly, enjoy it all 👍🏼
What physical physical degree do you have your ML transducer set to for forward mode.......40, 50, 60? Also, I just am learning that there is an adapter, not currently available, that is needed to properly mount the transducer to the TargetLock pole......waiting on mine to ship.
Hey Guys! I’m thinking about picking up an old 95 bass tracker tx17 on fbm… is there anything I should worry about with it being a riveted hull or anything…? Would love your input 🤙
This is a good video and shows that Humminbird is catching up, or has caught up, to LiveScope. My question to you is, how do you feel about the fact that this new product will not work with any of the first generation Mega Live screens, which means fishermen have to more or less start from scratch when equipping their boat?
Hey Jason, We've got both Solix and Apex units and it works on all of them. If I'm not mistaken, it's only Helix and really early Solix units that are not compatible. Our understanding is those units don't have fast enough processors, and if they'd been included it would have limited the potential capabilities of ML 2. It's totally understandable in the computer world for a faster computer to be needed to operate new/more powerful software, equipment, etc. We have to update our boats every few years to keep up with all sorts of technology changes, so honestly, it seems pretty normal to us.
@@tacticalbassin - To someone who bought into the Helix lineup, it seems like a huge rip-off. Why not offer the option to them? I work in the computer industry and backward compatability is a huge thing. I can understand if an old computer won't run new software, which is exactly what's happening, here, but is Humminbird offering a firmware or hardware update to those Helix units, so they'll work with ML 2? Nope, they're telling their customers to fork out several thousand dollars for all new units. That sucks and it's why so many are going to switch to Garmin, if they haven't already. Maybe for fishermen who are "in the industry", it's just a cost and a write-off, but for average weekend fishermen...it's a way for Humminbird to lose lifelong customers.
It’s like going to the red light district. Just drive around and pick the one you want. 🤦♂️☹️ “But you still gotta make them bite!!!” Biting is €20 extra.
if you look as he pans across the screens he has the 360 running. Personally I prefer the 360 over Live as i can see constantly whats happening around me, now it refreshes as it spins but you can figure it out with the info. Great product, suprised we have not seen a full 360 live view but that would be a lot of power being pulled I would imagine.
I have 360 on my bow and was actually using it while shooting this video. @00:40 you can see my mapping and 360 are on the other unit. I didn't have any interference issues either.
@@tacticalbassinsorry. Missed that. Do you find you use 360 less or different with live sonar also on the bow? This is an interesting potential video on how you best leverage the two in combination. Thanks!
This guy has the nerve to speak on technique? What’s the technique in pointing a camera until you see fish and then cast at them?? Next thing you know they’ll have audio waves that will bring fish to your boat! People still have the nerve to call this fishing?? Give me a break!
You obviously are clueless. If you had FF sonar, you would understand that it is a lot harder than that. Along with constantly adjusting the settings, you also have to figure out what type of fish that is appearing on the screen. Seldom do they just sit there without moving, making it very hard to stay on them. Lots of other things that make it harder to use than a casual observer would recognize. If you had FF sonar you would know.
I have three two year-old helix 12s with mega live one and 360. I am extremely frustrated, if my information is correct, that if I want to upgrade to mega live two, I have to change out everything (my existing Helix units)not just the transducer. If this is true, I feel like Humminbird abandoned us.
From what Ive heard, the processor in the Helix line was what was holding back Mega Live. Im not sure if this is true but makes since with the computer world these days.
I’ve had nothing but problems since the update. I lost the ability to to put side image on 2 graphs viewing left on the left graph and right on the right graph using 1 transducer. 2 finger swipe no longer works. I lost part of the view on 360. And Nema 2k is completely worthless now since they took all the slots away for engine data and gave us 3 gauges only that look like you are playing Atari. Got 2 tickets in with humminbird sure hope they fix this stuff.
Thanks for the this......overall just not for me....i stare at a screen all day at work I dont want to do it at the lake too. But like you....great for finding those grass likes or cover/structure
We produce content for every level angler. Our subscribers very from first time fisherman leaning to tie knots, to top touring professionals wanting to check out new gear or get better at a certain technique. If you watch our channel regularly, you know that we do bank fishing videos, pond fishing videos, travel videos, gear reviews, and everything in between. We understand that this technology isn't for everyone, which is why we do some fishing videos without any electronics at all. Judging someone for how they fish could also seem "Ridiculous"
When does it end? Why don’t u use a underwater camera that’s what it is coming too!! Even people that love FFS have to ask the question when does it stop is this what we want it to come to??
Honestly we both feel that High quality mapping and satellite imagery was far worse on fisheries than any of these electronics. Fish are already running from the transducer pings.
I think it’s just the price that throws people off. Let’s be real how many times have you thought, If only I could see what’s going on down there. I’m not a fan for tournament fishing. But we all know in ten years when the price comes down everyone will have it.
Yes, I think you're on to something. And truthfully, the prices really aren't that high. People look at pro boats with 5+ units, 3+ transducers, brakes, etc... and add up these huge bills, and those are the numbers everyone throws around. The reality is you can start from complete scratch here and its going to cost you $1999 (Xplore 10 CHO) + $1499 (Mega Live 2 Transducer) and you're looking at a crystal clear image from the fastest processor, and you're absolutely on the cutting edge of today's tech. Not to mention that purchase also gave you perfect mapping of every lake in the country, as well as inshore around the US. Compared to what we've paid for incremental technology changes in the past, or the $5K trolling motors you can buy today, that seems like a screaming deal!
It's only gone if you choose for it to be gone. This is a tool, like any other. There are plenty of people that don't use it, including us in many situations. We would be remiss to ignore new technology, we'd also be remiss to assume that its for everyone.
Man it is nice an all tim but you just confirmed what I’ve been seeing out there an if it’s to the point that we can’t even scan the area without these fish getting spooked an swimming off …. SMH that’s just too much pressure on a fishery what’s gonna happen 5 years from now ? An I ❤ livescope but this is gettin outta hand bad
This is an available option for you now, but not a requirement whatsoever. All the same shallow fish are still available to be caught all the same old ways, and in fact, they're getting less pressure than before 👍🏼 The only individual that MUST adapt to this tech is the touring pro, for the rest of us it's just an added bonus.
@ absolutely, i agree 1 hundo percent.. it def is a tournament guys tool OR an affluent weekend anglers toy but i bet i can speak for most of us here (the avid weekend warrior) that might play hooky from work once every other month or so to hit the lake during the week when its less crowded, this type of tech is just unattainable .. ya know, working man with a stay at home wife that home schools. Single income, working blue collas stiffs.. Dont get me wrong i love my life. Im so happy, i live in the big bass capital of West Texas. Born and raised. Iv been hitting all the popular spots years before they wer blown out by social media.. iv been bank fishing all my life and finally in my 50’s got a lil 16.5 tin trackor jon boat with a lil 40 hp merc, 45 lb 12 v troller and a badass Garmin Striker 4 at the console and im so proud of this lil thing. 24’ model… I go to my lil spots and idle around till i see fish, toss out a marker boui behind the boat and then depending on wind ill either anchore out from it and fish it or manually troll around it casting past it and rolling it past the boui. I would love to upgrade electronics,, I figures out this lil striker pretty quick but inhave no idea what to buy or how amd where to put them. I could prolly swing a until and a transducer in the $500-$1000 range if i saved up but theres such a learning curve with all this stuff especially if your not technically inclined.. Love yalls channel. 🤜🏻🤛🏻
Advanced electronics to me are like in golf, if they came out with a $2,000 driver that could hit a ball 350 yards straight as an arrow. It’s not in my budget so there would be zero reasons for me to watch videos showing me strategies to play after a 350 yard drive. Also, no fun watching pros on tv hit automatic 350 yard drives. I’m not judging those with the new super driver, but it has no appeal for me to engage in that type of content.
@@tacticalbassinextremely well said. I have livescope, and I fish 3-4 local tournaments a year. For bass, I just use it when I’m off shore to make sure I’m hitting deep structure efficiently with my casts. I only “video game fish” for crappie.
You definitely aren't alone, as casual observers of the sport, we've seen that expressed a lot the past year. However, I have a very different take I'd like to share with you (this is Matt by the way). As a whole, tournament fishing doesn't interest me. I'm not a "fan" of competitive fishing, never really have been... I'm just a fan of fishing. That said, I've watched WAYYYY more tournament coverage since they started overlaying angler's live screens. I see this as an incredible tool. In the past, when I'm in the office that is time away from fishing. Editing videos, emailing, commenting, etc... all cost valuable time and get in the way of learning. Now that live streamed screens are involved, I can put a tournament on where the organization has given me a lake name, water temp, conditions, and a live stream of actual fish response in more than one part of the lake, all at the same time. I couldn't care less who the angler is, what the specific bait is, etc... I'm at my desk studying actual fish positioning, attitude, and response to presentations, without leaving the office. That is the most valuable asset to the working man that I've seen happen in bass fishing since... well... RUclips. Just my 2 cents, but I hope you consider it.
@waynecrowe9075 We work very hard to maintain balance. We've had forward facing technology on our boats for a few years now, this isn't new. We know when to turn it on, and when to turn it off. Some videos use it, some videos we remove all electronics completely. We want to help everyone become a more effective angler right where they are, and that will never change 👍🏼 Thank you for your continued support.
Unfortunately this technology is ruining the sport of fishing both on the competitive side and recreational. I’ve been watching TB for over 10 years and have learned soooo much from Matt and Tim. It saddens me to see this type of content from “ my boys “ but, I know that their goal is to inspire, inform, and motivate fishermen and give the highest quality of information possible! I’m disappointed but I would never turn my back on these guys as I’ve gained so much knowledge over the years and know for a fact that both of them have our best interests in mind! Both Matt and Tim have been slaying bass for decades without this BS, let’s never forget that! They do what they do for us and you must respect that! 🎣
We appreciate the constant support! We're not going anywhere and neither is our content style. We owe it to some of our community to dial in these technologies, stay ahead of them, and be able to help others do the same. We also owe it to some of our community to unbolt the electronics, tie on a spinnerbait, and just plain catch some bass 😁 We do it all, we love it all, and we're very grateful that you're along for the ride!
@ just got the 34, big difference from the 32. I will say from this it appears that the hummingbird might be better at further distances than the 34 but I haven’t read the specs on the H2; cone size l, etc
Just think about how far ahead garmin was in every aspect of the game, as soon as they release their new livescope, megalive will be blown out of the water again, pretty sad it took them years and years just to attempt to catch up

Its not as easy as you would think. Until you've actually tried it, its hard to understand.
I’ve tried it.
Looks like you do not have 360 on your bow. Have you stopped using this because of ML or did you never use it? What's your take on 360 these days?
if you look as he pans across the screens he has the 360 running.
Thanks!
So I'm really new to this. It's the mega live transducer separate from the actual screen that you have on the boat
Yes, the Screen is an Humminbird Apex and can be connected to various transducers (down imaging, side imaging, 2D sonar, live sonar, etc)
@tacticalbassin ok thanks for explaining
4:05 that’s a great use case example
I dont want to even think about the about of money in tackle and gear I've lost threw the years getting hung up in trees and Brush piles 😬
Better than Garmin?
Target lock and mega live are still off brands of “live scope”. This looks good, but not great. Garmin is still the champ of FFS.
I really want to get the explor 10 and ml2 for my kayak.
From what we've seen on them, they are legit. Pre loaded with all the map cards and a much faster processor than even the Apex line.
I love the technology and using it but noticed I chase fish vs fish effectively when I scope .
There is times it helps and times it will hurt you.
Absolutely!
Awesome!
Thanks! I appreciate the watch!
Thanks for the this......overall just not for me....i stare at a screen all day at work I dont want to do it at the lake too. But like you....great for finding those grass likes or cover/structure
Absolutely!
Awww , now yall too. Getting ridiculous
Fishing is a good escape from the division in America. Now it seems the fishing community is divided as well. 😅
They can’t get accustomed to it fast enough. Bring back fishing!
Fish your own way and don't worry about what others are using.
Can’t wait to see what Garmin releases this year it gotta be crazy
When does it end? Why don’t u use a underwater camera that’s what it is coming too!! Even people that love FFS have to ask the question when does it stop is this what we want it to come to??
Agree. Might as well build a robot that can be controlled in the comfort of your sofa that can fish for you in harsh weather.
Underwater camera can’t see as far out……
Honestly we both feel that High quality mapping and satellite imagery was far worse on fisheries than any of these electronics.
This stuff is just way out of hand now. Don’t like where this stuff is going.
If this was compatible with my not-even one year old helix 12 g4n I'd be all over it but instead I'm just frustrated with humminbird.
My whole point of fishing is that bit of mystery that's involved. And now....gone😮
FFS and tournament fishing is killing bass fishing
Good Vid.... I got mine can't wait to set it up....
It's an awesome tool. You'll love it!
I don’t even recognize fishing anymore
24’ model…
I go to my lil spots and idle around till i see fish, toss out a marker boui behind the boat and then depending on wind ill either anchore out from it and fish it or manually troll around it casting past it and rolling it past the boui.
@@pdfahiethen don't watch and stop whining, go fishing however you like to
@@tacticalbassinextremely well said. I have livescope, and I fish 3-4 local tournaments a year. For bass, I just use it when I’m off shore to make sure I’m hitting deep structure efficiently with my casts. I only “video game fish” for crappie.
I can't wait until we have AI drones with cameras swimming around in lakes finding fish for us ... 🤦
Poor fish don’t stand a chance 🤦♂️
Not enjoying it for tournaments
It would be amazing if a company could create a FFS with AI that automatically hides all fish and only shows the structure/cover.
I've been a fan of you guys for years please don't mess it up with ffs stick with traditional fishing and methods please!!
Wish I had an extra 8 thousand dollars laying around
Garmin is still light years ahead. The older lvs32 still lokks better than this. The lvs34 completely blows it out of the water.
💯
I guess those with Garmin need to think this, you are of course dreaming!!
No ghost tree, less fuzzyness. Easy to see your lure, clear picture out to 100ft.. I can't speak on LV34, but it's blowing my LV32 away.
@ just got the 34, big difference from the 32. I will say from this it appears that the hummingbird might be better at further distances than the 34 but I haven’t read the specs on the H2; cone size l, etc
@@IanCrook-mq1tw not dreaming, accessing. I have 360 so brand name is irrelevant
Just think about how far ahead garmin was in every aspect of the game, as soon as they release their new livescope, megalive will be blown out of the water again, pretty sad it took them years and years just to attempt to catch up
