Walked into a store. Picked up a Nexus 9, loved the software. Picked up the Air 2, LOVED the hardware. Used both for like a couple of minutes then felt like putting them down somewhere. Picked up the Nexus 6, a real tablet killer. I've got the Note 4 and I don't see myself using my laptop at all unless I need to type long emails. Big-screen phones will eventually kill the tablet world. The Note started it, the Nexus 6 joins in. The 6 Plus is trying. What's next?
Stefan C. Not 6. The 6 Plus. Apple has always lived by the view that the smaller iPhone is the perfect device. Which is I think. But to compete in modern times they've had to backtrack on their beliefs somewhat and launch a phone hit by banding troubles. And most importantly, there's the price difference between the Nexus 6 and the 6 Plus, or any other phablet in that category. Hence, they've tried to actually sneak into a market they'd never expected to.
Stefan C. Android is far more affordable and will always be. Performance on the Nexus 9 is top-notch. I felt more joy using the Nexus 9 than the iPad Air 2. Plus, in real-life scenarios, Android tablets fair far better as a laptop replacement. Transferring media for example. Multiple codecs are supported and all you need is a microusb cable. iPad, I'll give it to build quality. But there were a few stutters here and there, and touch-sensitivity issues. May be I used a rogue device. Android 5 is a thing of beauty.
Best nexus 6 review. Are you using this phone with latest updates, because some reviews are saying that is slow, even slower than nexus 5 when opening apps? People are saying that's because encryption, but I wanna hear your thoughts, maybe update fixed that. And you are becoming my favorite youtuber, your videos are full with enthusiasm .
AnimeFan On arstechnica review there is video recorded one week ago and nexus 6 is slower than nexus 5, look arstechnica.com/gadgets/2014/11/nexus-6-review-the-premium-price-still-comes-with-compromises/2/ TechnoBuffalo thank you for answering . I was worried when I saw ars technica video but obviously problem is fixed with update.
KROreviews I read that the nexus 6 uses slow, outdated storage which causes the apps to take longer to load and explains why the nexus 6 boots so much slower than the nexus 5. @technobuffalo, any thoughts?
So Nexus 6 on this video determines: No lag with best performance ☑ Amazing battery life that equals any other phone with a 3000mah or higher ☑ Really amazing camera quality pictures ☑ Other website trashing the Nexus 6 lied ☑ The iVerge gave it a great review and hell has frozen over ☑
John said a few months ago the lg g3 was the best phone he ever tested. I wonder if he still feels that way with the nexus 6 and note 4 out and other phones that have dropped out. Comparo???
Lg g3 is still one of the best phones out right now and easily goes toe to toe with the new flagships . for example nexus 6 doesnt have a sd card or removable battery. Those things are deal breakers for some people. And people who saying g3 is laggy well they havent used one its right now best selling Android phone and yes the 16gb version has some lags because it has 2gb ram but the 32gb version doesnt lag at all its my personal experience upgraded from the htc m8 to s5 than to g3 16gb now g3 32gb and im telling u g3 can still take down this nexus 6. Oh and i forgot to mention the size so ya. The only edge necus 6 has on the g3 is the GPU thats it.
gabriel I own a G3 32gb version and it does lag and shuts off by it self at times. im not hating on the G3, im just telling the truth. even tho its got those hippcup I still LOVE my G3, knock knock wake up/sleep and thin side/top/bottom bezel is just to hard to let it go.
I truly believe this is the best tech channel on youtube. Jon is unbiased and very detailed with his explanations. Plus he responds to his subscribers! Keep up the great work!!
Used to own a note 3 did not go for the note 4 because I hated touchwiz and hated the wait for the software updates to come out. So far I'm in love with the nexus. It's really a great awesome phone. I recommend it to anyone out there who like big phones.
Friendly, honest and unbiased like usual. Nice job Jon! My only suggestion (someone else said this too) I'd like to see Screen on Time stats in the future as a guide for battery life! Otherwise awesome job :)
Would you do a comparison between the blue edition and the white one and give your opinion on which you would prefer? I want a nexus 6 but can't decide which color lol
The Htc one Max endured extreme criticism for not making much use of the large screen size by not incorporating a(multi window) mode, what makes this phone different?
Nice opinion Shamur Stewart but I didn't see any rules or guidelines for a answer..if you do please point them out for me.. What's irrelevant to you may not be irrelevant to the next person my friend.
, what makes this phone different.. I focused on that part of it Shamur Stewart execuse me if I angered you sir but I didn't expect me commenting I'd be insulted about my intelligence; smh but anyhow my answer still stands and I'm sticking to it. If you don't like it....owell..((shrugs shoulders))
I played with one at the store. Thought it was fast until I took a bunch of pictures, went to home screen, then opened gallery. It took for ever to show the pictures in the thumb nails. Did you see that too with all your testing? Appears to have slow read speeds that have been discovered in technical reviews, and I seem to notice it there.
Can you please tell us the Screen on time when reviewing the batteries on phones. telling us what percentage you end your day with isn't descriptive enough.
Yes I agree! But knowing that some people do not like large phablets, Google could have released two sizes, one could have been the rumored 5.2inch nexus from before.
Hey Jon, pocket-friendly size is something I'm comfortable with. Still, I am ready to go for this monster as I think that after some time with the device, my hands will be habituated to it. The important thing for me though is the battery life. I use my phone heavily for social media. I would probably keep the mobile data ON for half the day as my workplace doesn't have WiFi access. How long will it last me from a single charge?
Thanks for replying Jon. I just got a Note 4 and honestly you just can't compare it to HTC's speakers so I was hoping that Nexus 6 would be something that can compete with M8/7 in terms of speakers.
It's great reviews like this that helped me decide on purchasing a note 4. Keep these great reviews coming. Only thing we need now is an iPhone 6 plus vs droid turbo vs note 4 vs nexus 6 battle, and make the video about 20min. I'll make the popcorn, buy the soda, and kick back and enjoy these beastly phones fight to the screens get smashed.
I definitely would say if you are purchasing this phone or anything with a 5.0 inch screen display, there is no need to have an tablet unless it's a low memory and spec smartphone then maybe. If you are going to purchase an tablet, make sure it is at least 9 inches or higher because anything smaller, you better off having a smaller phone. Just saying. Look at the iPhone 6 plus. It's bigger than a note 4. If you have the 64 to 128gb model, you'll be good to go. Vice versa for a tablet. If you are going to be doing a lot, make sure you check the specs first. Definitely the battery life and performance. These are key factors. I agree with Jon. I think the nexus 6 will be my next phone. Plus being able to receive all updates early would be great!
actually they are approximately the same size considering the fact the note 4 is wider than the IPhone and the Iphone is thinner and taller than the note 4
Thanks Jon, I always enjoy your reviews. You say that the blue back is not good for prints and what not do you know if the white is any better? I've never had a white phone but I am thinking of the nexus 6 in white. Thanks for your feedback.
How do you get the Google now launcher to say "say okay Google " on the search bar? Once I side loaded Google search 4.1 and it happened but then it disappeared.
I'm impatiently waiting for AT&T to stock this beautiful beast!!! I was going to get the I-phone 6+, but after seeing the Nexus 6, it's what I want real bad!!! Thanks for the great review, as usual!
Great review! Always look forward to your video's, Jon! Question, is the back a soft touch like the black Nexus 5? Or eggshell, like the white cloud version?
It's not slow. It's awesome! I got rid of my iPhone 6+ for this Nexus 6 and have never looked back. iPhone iOS has some great features but nothing to compare to android. Nexus 6 is buttery smooth and just a joy to personalize. Gotta say I'm really diggin' this beast. It can only get better with updates.
Hi I was just wondering, you stated that this phone will work on AT&T T Mobile and verizon correct? If so in order to use it with verizon do I simply insert their sim?
I think this review just solidified my decision to purchase the Nexus 6 over the iPhone 6+ (when available) I've been bouncing back and forth between them. I just could only wish the N6 had a better camera, although I think its mostly software related. Love the enthusiasm behind the review, too.
Hey Jon, How did you got used to the screen size? How fast did it happen ? You mentioned that you like big screens but was it a bit different coming to that size? just curious to know
I am really happy I preordered this today from ATT, my moto X (first Gen) screen got all cracked last night, still works but it worries me. Had been waiting for this review before buying but decided I had to grab it happy to know I didn't waste my money
Comparing it to the Note 4 camera, which one of the two is better? I know that the note 4 has more saturated color reproduction, but since you've used both which one do you like better?
Reviewers criticize that the Lumia 1520, iPhone 6+ & HTC's One Max doesn't have multi window but completely forgot that its not available when reviewing a Nexus device.
Your channel is the THE BEST... Always awesome reviews. How do you compare the camera to iphone 6 plus.. Is the camera noticeable bad at night? I love take pictures . I will appreciate your answer.
Thanks for the review and responding to many of our comments! How is the audio output for headphones on this thing? I am hoping it is powerful enough to drive some of my more power hungry IEMs and Cans!
hey jon; is the size of it really that big of a deal or is the moto x a good alternative. i've used the note 3 and didn't mind the size at all only the software bothered me.
Would this compare to the S4 in size? My friend has it and it feels great in my hands. I get a phone upgrade in June, should I get this, the note 4, S4 or should I keep my eyes open for new phones down the road?
Can you guys show the brightness difference with other phones? Other reviews like Phonearena shows that it's only 200+nits while the Note 4 has 400+nits.
What's next?
iPhone 6 is trying? And how is it not succeeding?
Stefan C. Not 6.
TheBlooRayChannel I dont get it... What where the reasons you said in that?
Shamur Stewart What about Android is better for a tablet? Maybe a few things have extra panels and stuff, but so does IOS.
Stefan C. Android is far more affordable and will always be. Performance on the Nexus 9 is top-notch. I felt more joy using the Nexus 9 than the iPad Air 2. Plus, in real-life scenarios, Android tablets fair far better as a laptop replacement. Transferring media for example. Hey Jon could you avoid saying OK google in your reviews my phone always starts doing a voice search!
Every time I say it in a video, I laugh bc I know what it's doing.
TechnoBuffalo Well played!
Same here loool
Same here lol
TechnoBuffalo Yo...You're a monster!
The phone is not slow. It has the latest specs offered, and I have already seen any reviews and none of them said it lagged. :D
We are.
AnimeFan On arstechnica review there is video recorded one week ago and nexus 6 is slower than nexus 5, look arstechnica.com/gadgets/2014/11/nexus-6-review-the-premium-price-still-comes-with-compromises/2/
TechnoBuffalo thank you for answering . I was worried when I saw ars technica video but obviously problem is fixed with update.
Brane Petkoski It was an earlier version of Lollipop 5.0 that didn't have proper optimization.
KROreviews I read that the nexus 6 uses slow, outdated storage which causes the apps to take longer to load and explains why the nexus 6 boots so much slower than the nexus 5.
@technobuffalo, any thoughts?
So Nexus 6 on this video determines:
No lag with best performance ☑
Amazing battery life that equals any other phone with a 3000mah or higher ☑
Really amazing camera quality pictures ☑
Other website trashing the Nexus 6 lied ☑
The iVerge gave it a great review and hell has frozen over ☑
***** see it's all lies.
👍 YESSSSS
Let's face it, if The Verge likes it then it must be pretty great ;)
Peter Blanco Yep.
Jeremy Collins who talks on the phone these days? 😂😂😂
Still a great phone in 2017
John said a few months ago the lg g3 was the best phone he ever tested. I wonder if he still feels that way with the nexus 6 and note 4 out and other phones that have dropped out. Comparo???
At the time it was. There is much more competition out there now. More comparisons are definitely coming.
The lg g3 turned into a glitchy POS. IMHO. Every review I've seen from the major reviewers so far have stated normal android jitters from the nexus 6.
TechnoBuffalo thanks for the reply
Lg g3 is still one of the best phones out right now and easily goes toe to toe with the new flagships . for example nexus 6 doesnt have a sd card or removable battery. Those things are deal breakers for some people. The unlocked works on verizon too?
Used to own a note 3 did not go for the note 4 because I hated touchwiz and hated the wait for the software updates to come out. So far I'm in love with the nexus. It's really a great awesome phone. I recommend it to anyone out there who like big phones.
Solution for the not so good back is dbrand skin. They are already available. Everything else on the phone is just top notch!
Good suggestion.
May I ask what dbrand skin is and where can I find in Mumbai, Akshay? Hey Techno, love your reviews. Getting this nexus soon. Thanks :D
Dhaval Chauhan google might help
Friendly, honest and unbiased like usual. Nice job Jon!
My only suggestion (someone else said this too) I'd like to see Screen on Time stats in the future as a guide for battery life! Otherwise awesome job :)
If Google doesn't make a new Nexus 5, I feel it's a real missed opportunity.
Where exactly are we supposed to see it in person? Is it actually going to be in stores within the next month?
Would you do a comparison between the blue edition and the white one and give your opinion on which you would prefer? I want a nexus 6 but can't decide which color lol
The Htc one Max endured extreme criticism for not making much use of the large screen size by not incorporating a(multi window) mode, what makes this phone different?
Better battery, better software and bigger development community so you can get multi window with ease.
Nice opinion Shamur Stewart but I didn't see any rules or guidelines for a answer..if you do please point them out for me.. What's irrelevant to you may not be irrelevant to the next person my friend.
K.J. Littlejohn Thats true, but Shamur Stewart was correct. I was speaking of multi-window functionality or lack thereof, "software".
, what makes this phone different.. I focused on that part of it Shamur Stewart execuse me if I angered you sir but I didn't expect me commenting I'd be insulted about my intelligence; smh but anyhow my answer still stands and I'm sticking to it. If you don't like it....owell..((shrugs shoulders))
Fuck what they think and fuck yo thoughts! Have a good one ya Lil annoying mosquito
Hey Jon what do you think it's better iphone 6 or nexus 6?
TechnoBuffalo no input on the front camera?
and does the non existence of the micro sd card slot lower your ratings ??
Your channel has a way of reviewing tech for what it is. Not what it was or what you hoped it'll be but what it IS. Good job!
Do you consider this as a tablet substitute?
I played with one at the store. Thought it was fast until I took a bunch of pictures, went to home screen, then opened gallery. It took for ever to show the pictures in the thumb nails. Did you see that too with all your testing? Appears to have slow read speeds that have been discovered in technical reviews, and I seem to notice it there.
Do you think the white version has the same oily and dirt problems? Is the material the same on the back and differs only by color?
Can you please tell us the Screen on time when reviewing the batteries on phones. telling us what percentage you end your day with isn't descriptive enough.
Which do you prefer nexus 6 or droid turbo?
What service provider would u recommend for the nexus 6
Jon made a great point by not reducing the store because of the size, because size preference is different for everybody.
What's the battery hit if you're not on WiFi all day?
What would you have wanted better for the nexus 6?
A different back, better outdoor visibility, and a bit better low light camera performance.
Is the click-to-shot speed as quick as the iPhone 6 or Galaxy S5? Looks to be pretty quick in your review.
Does it have FM radio which works directly with earphones as antenna?
when are modular phones gonna come out
What about the white version, how is the back on that? TechnoBuffalo
One question, ¿However perform the display in direct sunlight? And how many nits it has? Thanks
I was wondering how do the speakers perform compared to HTC M8...
They are good, but no Boom Sound.
TechnoBuffalo soo happy i have htc one boom sound should be on every phone
Thanks for replying Jon.
I just got a Note 4 and honestly you just can't compare it to HTC's speakers so I was hoping that Nexus 6 would be something that can compete with M8/7 in terms of speakers.
***** android authority's have an audio test in their review
Thanks Darklight2360 I'll check it out
Glad to see the battery life was good, I have heard mixed reviews about the battery life
Its not great but not awful
Me too, some people have said battery life is awful, others have said its pretty good and could last two days of solid use. So confused lol.
Watched this video...bought the nexus 6...my wife is in trouble now because this is my soul mate...
I have. Nexus 5 I used it for 5 month u think I should buy nexus 6 or 5 stile good what u think ?
Does the nexus 6 comes with moto smart actions?
I'm still using this device after the Pixel release on Android N over two years after release, love it!
It's great reviews like this that helped me decide on purchasing a note 4. Keep these great reviews coming. I wonder how the front firing speakers hold up to HTC's Boom sound?
Thanks Jon, I always enjoy your reviews. You say that the blue back is not good for prints and what not do you know if the white is any better? I've never had a white phone but I am thinking of the nexus 6 in white.
Thanks for your feedback.
Have you had any problems with screen burn in and do you think this is a concern to think about? I am reconsidering buying this phone for that reason.
What storage size was your nexus 6?
How do you get the Google now launcher to say "say okay Google " on the search bar? Once I side loaded Google search 4.1 and it happened but then it disappeared.
Wasn't it supposed to have a slow motion feature?
is the moto g gonna get 5.0? and i mean the original 4.5" one
So if you compare it to the note 4 .....any lag ? How dies the speed compare?
wow you can barely see the pixels on the zoomed in part
the turbo charger technology is in the charging block. so could you test out what that does when you connect that to the new wireless charger.
It is not softtouch. It feels more like standard plastic.
hey ive really wanted to know how the phone handles heavy gaming does it overheat like the nexus 5 did?
270 nits, is that screen as dim as that number indicates?
Does it have multiwindow like the Note 4 or LG G3? I mean it is a big phone right, it should have it?
Can you run antutu benchmark and tell me the score?
Do all nexus 6's have a 2 toned display?
(only really noticeable under white or grey backgrounds)
It's not slow. It's awesome! I got rid of my iPhone 6+ for this Nexus 6 and have never looked back. iPhone iOS has some great features but nothing to compare to android. Nexus 6 is buttery smooth and just a joy to personalize. Gotta say I'm really diggin' this beast. It can only get better with updates.
Great review. Looking forward for my preorder to finally arrive!
Great job John! Motorola seems to be doing very well as a Nexus manufacturer!
how does it feels on small hand? awkwardly big or will-adapt-to-it big? and how it suits in the pocket?
Tough for small hands I'd wager. I have bigger hands and it was tough for me.
Can htc's boomsound be ported to N6 as it has stereo speakers?
Hi I was just wondering, you stated that this phone will work on AT&T T Mobile and verizon correct? If so in order to use it with verizon do I simply insert their sim?
I think this review just solidified my decision to purchase the Nexus 6 over the iPhone 6+ (when available) I've been bouncing back and forth between them. I just could only wish the N6 had a better camera, although I think its mostly software related. Love the enthusiasm behind the review, too.
I wish Google scaled down the icon sizes for the nexus 5
Wait. No 60fps 1080p recording?
Can the nexus 6 record slow motion videos?
Hey Jon,
How did you got used to the screen size? How fast did it happen ? You mentioned that you like big screens but was it a bit different coming to that size? just curious to know
I never got fully used to it. I was always aware it was a giant phone.
How do you compare it to OnePlus one?
I want to upgrade to nexus 6 from note 3. Can you temme where u've cut one point from?
@Jon when will the nexus 7 get the lollipop 5.0 update ?
Is the size on the N6 considerably different in the hand (and pocket) than the Note 4?
Yeah. Check out our video comparing the 6 to all other phones.
I have an HTC m7 rn for about 9 months, I'm looking for a new phone do you think that I should get the m8 or nexus 6?
How is the screen visibility in direct sunlight?
Not great, but average with most of what is out there.
I am really happy I preordered this today from ATT, my moto X (first Gen) screen got all cracked last night, still works but it worries me. Had been waiting for this review before buying but decided I had to grab it
happy to know I didn't waste my money
Comparing it to the Note 4 camera, which one of the two is better? I know that the note 4 has more saturated color reproduction, but since you've used both which one do you like better?
Which phone is better HTC desire 816 or samsung galaxy note 2
Do you think the white version will still have the smudgy back? Or will it hide it better?
I'd guess hide it better, but I haven't seen the white yet.
Keki Merchant and 50 the UK 21st May be worth checking 7 to
Do you think that android lollipop is a big enough upgrade? Or do you think we're starting to hit an invisible brick wall with phones at the moment?
Great review! Keep em coming Jon
Thank you!
Great review Jon!
Reviewers criticize that the Lumia 1520, iPhone 6+ & HTC's One Max doesn't have multi window but completely forgot that its not available when reviewing a Nexus device.
Nexus 6 or LG G3?
Like all your other reviews, I love this!
Your channel is the THE BEST...
Always awesome reviews.
How do you compare the camera to iphone 6 plus.. Is the camera noticeable bad at night? I love take pictures . I will appreciate your answer.
I know this is an older post but I used the info from this and just bought a nexus 6 to use as my daily driver great info Thank you
Thanks for the review and responding to many of our comments! How is the audio output for headphones on this thing? I am hoping it is powerful enough to drive some of my more power hungry IEMs and Cans!
I didn't test that aspect much, but the little I did sounded fine.
It's no HTC M8 audio quality but it's decent. I own AKG, Sennheiser, Shure and Klipsch headphones and they all played well.
I guess it can't be worse than my Moto G! Thanks guys.
Good one! Again with the "OK Google". Every time my Nexus 5 goes to voice search. I really gotta start using headphones while watching your videos
Great review as always John.
is this worth $400 in October?
hey jon; is the size of it really that big of a deal or is the moto x a good alternative. i've used the note 3 and didn't mind the size at all only the software bothered me.
It's a decent deal.
Hello im from México and im going to the U.S. next week will i be able to buy this phone unlocked, i mean without contract? Thanks a lot.
Would this compare to the S4 in size? My friend has it and it feels great in my hands. I get a phone upgrade in June, should I get this, the note 4, S4 or should I keep my eyes open for new phones down the road?
+Taylor Smith accualy the s4 has a 5 inch screem
ToxicKirby Plays Minecraft screen*
Is abit too big? and how is it for gaming and all that?
No its not too big
Can you guys show the brightness difference with other phones? Other reviews like Phonearena shows that it's only 200+nits while the Note 4 has 400+nits.
Any idea how Nexus 5 battery life is effected by the Android Lollipop battery improvements?
Not yet.
The BEST phone I have ever had period !
Worth the cash? Absolutely. This phone doe's not disappoint on any level.
+Frederick Thompson Are there any issues with the phone? How is the battery life and camera?
Can you review Meizu MX4?
This is probably the most positive review out there for the Nexus 6...
