A guy who can sing like Chris Cornell while playing funky rhythms and lead guitar like Hendrix and Van Halen, the most dazzling bass guitarist in the world not named 'Victor', and the drummer EVERYBODY wants...you can't go wrong with these guys.
I'm glad Richie Kotzen is finally getting the recognition he so rightfully deserves. He might be the most underrated musician on the planet (well, at least up there with King's X).
Ian Thornley (of Big Wreck) absolutely belongs in this discussion as well. Unbelievable guitarist, ironically with Cornell-esque vocals much like Richie as well. If you're not familiar, he's much worth a listen...
WOW! Billy Sheehan (Bass) has found a Great Vocalist, a Jeff Beck style guitar player in Richie Kotzen, and excellent Drummer = Mike Portnoy! ~ Love this New Band
Originally, this band was supposed to feature John Sykes on guitars and vocals (Whitesnake/Blue Murder/Thin Lizzy/Tigers Of Pan Tang), but in what has become a familiar happening unfortunately, Sykes continues to torpedo his own career.
these guys just raised the bar. everyone is singing, pop hooks, complex rhythms that don't detract from the song, powerful rock sound, the bass is a full member of the band, excellent singing, well written lyrics, and not a pick in sight. rarely do rock musicians truly mature, seems like most put their best work out early, but these guys have found something. I am predicting these cats are gonna be BIG.
Not a pick in sight!! 😂 I agree! That’s pretty cool! And as a drummer that sings I love how it’s a trio who all sing. Everyone here is really talented , but I actually didn’t like their writing in a lot of songs before in their past endeavors. But this stuff is really good, interesting but grooves, technical yet memorable. Lots of fu.n listening to and I’m sure it’ll be a bit difficult but fun to learn a drum track or two of.
I wish you good luck mike portnoy, you and your new band.. please keep drumming cause the whole world loves you and knows who you are.. bad comments are the grey aliens among us.. they try to destroy but everything you [mike] build, is crashing them all down again and again..

Breath of fresh air in a sea of dead music. I am a big dream theater fan and am glad to see mike here and sounding better than ever nice. its amazing how really great music is never played on the radio but then again the masses are asses. pick this one up on vinyl sounds even better hope they last awhile....
It´s not just their skill on the instrument, a true genius in music is what Richie Kotzen does in stage, i can guarantee and asure that he is one of the best performers ever, you have to listen him live, it´s not about lights, a show, no it´s about skill, mature and concept... trust me, hearing Rk live will blow your mind...
Love all these musicians solo and together. GREAT EFFING SONG THOUGH!!! GOTTA BUY THIS ALBUM. Best thing is you can tell that the music feels good because they're all grinning! Awesome.
So refreshing to hear these guys together. A powerhouse trio of 3 gods. Love this band! Back to raw rock and roll with great riffs, killer hooks and oldschool production. Freakin awesome!
Saw em last two nights @ BB's Times Sq... I was really impressed. I'm a DT fan/friend of the band and always liked Richie Kotzen who I don't think copies CC but they have the same tonal quality to their voices.... Like I said.. CC can't play a lick on guitar nor keys but Richie can.... Cornell is a better singer by far imo. Their live show was awesome but you've got to open your mind to fusion to fully enjoy their respective talents imho. I wish them all the best they're a good outfit. I play guitar without a pick ( I'm learning...had to switch from left to right recently) and it's fun to play pickless... gives you a lot more control. A friend of mine is lead in a local band in NYC and can play LAMF sans pick if he so chooses but gigs with a pick and goes w /o for certain things for fun. I did notice Kotzen uses one for his one acoustic guitar number. The opening act was the guy from TNT. They had a great night at BBs I was most impressed by BIlly Sheehan's bass solo. Nothing better than a kick ass power trio with excellent musicians and good material! 6 STARS out of a possible 5 ! Extra Star for the formidable bass playing! Sounds great guys!!!!!
Saw a performance of this the other night on VH1 Classic from the 2014 Sonisphere Festival. I was not even aware of this band prior to that, but the performance blew me away. Really fucking great stuff, and every member of the band is a virtuoso talent at their particular instrument. I was already familiar with Mike Portnoy and Billy Sheehan. I'm not familiar with the Singer/Guitarist, but he's brilliant as well, and this is a really cool song. I'll probably wind up getting these guys' album. Good stuff!!!
Take a minute to study up on Richie Kotzen; you'll be glad you did. I think he came out of Poison originally, but quickly moved beyond dumb hair-metal to stand out as a really unique and genuine artist. This is a guy who grew up with a love of hard rock and Motown, and those sensibilities, together with mad guitar and vocal skills make him a brilliant package. He's so good, he did duets with the great Greg Howe on guitar!
mano a mano Actually Richie Kotzen started off as a shred metal guitarist on Shrapnel Records in the late 80's, and by the time he joined Poison he had evolved past shred metal to a more rock/blues based sound, so the only Poison album he was on (Native Tongue) was really bluesy as opposed to the traditional Poison sound. His solo stuff is amazing and "Change"/"Get Up" are both well varied albums that showcases his diverse style. His stuff with Mr. Big is also worth a listen, that's how I discovered him.
Coming back to this song after some years and I remember thinking how this is such a great song this is..as much as songs go..leaving out on purpose the mastery being the instruments that all three guys bring to it..
All these nasty, negative comments amuse me. These guys are all top-tier musicians. What music have you produced? Where are your albums for people to listen to and pick apart? They're making music that a lot of people really dig and they're enjoying themselves, at the same time. If you don't like it, that's fine. But do you really need to be such asses about it? Just go back to listening to your Five Finger Death Punch or Spice Girls, or whatever the hell you enjoy and leave well enough alone.
***** if you think that then you obviously don't know what a solo is lol they are in a solo heavy style but certainly not soloing at the same time, the only time that tends to happen is if sheehan and kotzen are doing a melodic thing. seems to me like just a bunch of butt hurt beavers who either A. can't comprehend the music [I'd assume from the lack of musical talent that has been around the past 20 or so years that has made the world so musically ignorant] or a fanboy raging about mike and dt or some other trivial matter that has nothing to do with the music itself.
***** obviosuly not , not only have you came back to reply to me but about this band you really should think before you type, less ignorant that way ya know. and are you kidding me? "songmanship" as you incorrectly call it instrumentally is 100% transcribed from the aesthetics of music theory which they are doing flawlessly if you think this incorrect provide evidence showing me incorrect otherwise stop talking about something you seem completely ignorant of. the fact you dislike the band has nothing to do with musicianship its simple your musical preference differs please next time educate yourself and learn the differences, again less ignorant that way.
There's a lot of instant dismissal for this band because of the personalities in it (mainly Portnoy) but if you pay attention to the music for a second, you realise it's 3 musicians each with distinguished careers and a fantastic knowledge of their way around their instruments, and they clearly just wanna jam out and have fun with this. The music practically screams fun! Just enjoy it for what it is; three brilliant musicians going back to basics throwing out some rock and blues
3 people capable of melting our faces off with their talent have channeled it into actual musicality! I'm way more impressed by the musicianship here than all their indidual face-melty stuff combined.
ok am I crazy or does this guy sound literally exactly like Chris Cornell? Every time I hear his voice i just start laughing because there is no difference. I can't be the only one thinking this.
Aaron Gothmann Uhm hear Cornell live he…Uhm sucked! This Dude is way stronger live - check The Winery Dogs live video - this dude sings just as strong live!
Yeah, okay. If you want to look at it from a perspective of possibles; okay. However, I've never read or heard an article with Chris Cornell, that says Kotzen was a huge influence. Also Soundgarden formed in 1984 and was a fixture on the scene by 1986; when Kotzen was 15. You think what you want, I'll just look at the evidence that suggests otherwise. It's no big deal anyway.
I'm tied of those people who still ditto to cite Chris Cornell. Richie has his own voice and his singing style is totally different. Richie has sung his own songs since he produced the album "Fever Dream" in 1990 which was much earlier than Chris Cornell's first solo album (released in 1999), although CC had sung in Soundgarden before then. I have listened to Richie's music since late 80's... people who compares his vocals to CC's look like a really new and fickle fan. Probably they don't know the album "Mother head's family reunion" either.
tobortine Yeah, my ASS! The best three piece period is RUSH. 24 Gold Records. 16 Platinum; placing them third; only behind The Beatles and The Rolling Stones for the most consecutive gold or platinum studio albums by a rock band. Add that to the fact they've had this line-up for more than 40 years and are still killing it; I would love to hear why you think this great (but moderately successful in both sales and composition) band (the winery dogs) really deserve Rush's title. I believe Sheenan himself would laugh at you...they all would...actually probably Portnoy would, since he idolizes Peart.
¡Great cooperation among this three amazing guys!. When I begin to hear the song (my brother tolds me about the new ritchie's new project) I don't know what can I expect. But now 2:46 and I'm still hearing them!. wait......billy sheehan solo.....!!!!!!!! ahhhhhhhh, amazing!!!!
Play "Elevate" on Amazon Music "Elevate" Lost in the dark I feel like a shadow of myself I'm not what I was I keep looking for another second chance To get me… clean Elevate me Take me higher I don't wanna be wasted I've got nothing left to loose It's a little known fact I see everything black And I don't wanna face it Elevate me Take me higher The smoke and the dark Has just taken me in Over my head No-one to trust I'm feeling like I'm closely there I was to the… end Elevate me Take me higher I don't wanna be wasted I've got nothing left to loose It's a little known fact I see everything black And I don't wanna face it Elevate me Take me higher I'm tired of taking the test Don't test me My troubled mind is a mess You know I'm I'm only trying my best To be set free Elevate me Take me higher I don't wanna be wasted I've got nothing left to loose It's a little known fact I see everything black And I don't wanna face it Elevate me Take me higher
I can't believe some people actually find fault in a group of musicians because, they LACK any faulty playing and writing skills? Did I get that correct? Whoa, what planet am I on?
The new Rush! Great guitarist, great bassist, and add that amazing Peart inspired drummer, and we have the new 3 piece of the time. Great, I love this!
My favorite album of 2013 and one of my favorite debut albums ever. I was unfamiliar with Kotzen before, but the guy has the goods. And Portnoy and Sheehan are awesome, as always.
A guy who can sing like Chris Cornell while playing funky rhythms and lead guitar like Hendrix and Van Halen, the most dazzling bass guitarist in the world not named 'Victor', and the drummer EVERYBODY wants...you can't go wrong with these guys.
Hahaha 🤣 true story
Agree with you
Better songs please...
@@hoksane , their first album especially was chock full of songs with catchy choruses.
*Leads like Vai, Satriani and Hendrix*
When i close my eyes it's like listening to Mr.Big with Chris Cornell on vocals :)
me too, buddy!
idem!
Same here!
I was thinking the same thing about Chris Cornell vocals!
hahaha I mean You do have almost the Mr. big here haha
I'm glad Richie Kotzen is finally getting the recognition he so rightfully deserves. He might be the most underrated musician on the planet (well, at least up there with King's X).
He did raise his game with the WD, unfortunately he chose not to continue ahead.
kings x are a super group with no luck!
@@pauloamw not true. They toured last year and were talking about a new album in 2021 prior to the COVID shutdowns.
Ian Thornley (of Big Wreck) absolutely belongs in this discussion as well. Unbelievable guitarist, ironically with Cornell-esque vocals much like Richie as well. If you're not familiar, he's much worth a listen...
Gretchen Goes To Nebraska is one of the most boring albums I've ever heard!
oh god, Sheehan is so good they don't even sound empty when Kotzen is soloing away
daradidam That was the point! And has turned out to be *SO* amazing!
I absolutely love 'em!
Cheers from Greece! :D
+daradidam WHAT?
I agree!
Every player in this band compliments the other. What a treat, and what a voice!
Haven't heard anything this ballsy and melodic in a long time. Love it.
Richie was in Mr. Big briefly when Paul Gilbert left.
these guys just raised the bar. everyone is singing, pop hooks, complex rhythms that don't detract from the song, powerful rock sound, the bass is a full member of the band, excellent singing, well written lyrics, and not a pick in sight. rarely do rock musicians truly mature, seems like most put their best work out early, but these guys have found something. I haven't heard anything this good for a long long time...
opasno
Strahotno :)
Billy and Richie that play with the right hand behind the back smiling like it was nothing. I Just love them
seen Winery Dogs last nite @ NY's Sony Hall..Phenomenal..
can't believe I just discovered this band! Awesome!
Me too, I was anti portnoy after he left but now I feel better that I gave him a chance, this is an all around good band
I wish you good luck mike portnoy, you and your new band..

A friend just turned me on to these guys. Man have I been missing out..
Love love love. New favorite band.
This is something different! Musicianship mastered to perfection and having fun at the same time. I simply love this band!
I agree. RUSH comes to mind too for same reasons. Agree?
I love how Mr RItchie change your style...i remember when he plays ultra fast solos...and now, he are the master of feeling...amazing.
Richie.
Musicians at the top of their game having fun .
SO TRUE!!! THEY are Tight!!!!! They kick ASS.Each has there own Own Talent. You put them together,Kick ASS Band
グルーブ、テクニック、リッチーの声どれも最高にクールな曲だぜ

THIS REMINDS ME AUDIOSLAVE
That is amazing how Ritchie is playing without a pick,
Mostly harmonics and tap-style. I like finger-picking that way as long as I've got really light strings.
Yeah man. I love how Mr Jeff Beck is also so good at getting a heavy tone like this with soft fleshy fingers
+Jack Beale Guitar Billy Sheehan?
+A7xgds41 Billy is the badass bass player, I don't understand your question
Crazy thing is, Richie's playing .011-.049 ^_^
Lost in the dark
I feel like a shadow of myself
I'm not what I was
I keep looking for another second chance
To get me? clean
Elevate me
Take me higher
I don't wanna be wasted
I've got nothing left to loose
It's a little known fact
I see everything black
And I don't wanna face it
Elevate me
Take me higher
The smoke and the dark
Has just taken me in
Over my head
No-one to trust
I'm feeling like I'm closely there
I was to the? end
Elevate me
Take me higher
I don't wanna be wasted
I've got nothing left to loose
It's a little known fact
I see everything black
And I don't wanna face it
Elevate me
Take me higher
I'm tired of taking the test
Don't test me
My troubled mind is a mess
You know I'm
I'm only trying my best
To be set free
Elevate me
Take me higher
I don't wanna be wasted
I've got nothing left to loose
It's a little known fact
I see everything black
And I don't wanna face it
Elevate me
Take me higher

Anything with this line up....cant go wrong. Top of the music industry`s musicians...For sure!!!.

Caraca... Que sonzeira!! Muito obrigado Nando por essa maravilha, há algum tempo que não escutava algo tão bom!
Simplesmente SENSACIONAL!
I'm loving this!
Band of the year, period. What a fantastic album and song!
The Winery Dogs = Super cool hooks!
The playing is obviously top-notch...but, man, the vocal harmonies really tie the whole pckg. Together for me!!
Really good song.
Coming back to this song after some years and I remember thinking how this is such a great song this is..as much as songs go..leaving out on purpose the mastery being the instruments that all three guys bring to it..
Just brilliant. I have spent three years looking for another adjective and just can't!

man these guys rock so hard.
Wow some of the best music I have heard all year!
Awesome!!!!

PLEASE come to New Zealand. Brilliant music, I love it.
Does anyone else get like an Audioslave vibe from this song? Incredible!
ywah! Ritchie sounds like Cornell in this one
Isso sim é música de verdade

This is some music here!!.. Love it!!... and yes Kotzen sounds like Cornell and I love SG... but the music is great!!!

ok am I crazy or does this guy sound literally exactly like Chris Cornell? Every time I hear his voice i just start laughing because there is no difference. I can't be the only one thinking this.
Aaron Gothmann Uhm hear Cornell live he…Uhm sucked! This Dude is way stronger live - check The Winery Dogs live video - this dude sings just as strong live!
you are not the only one who think this. but both came from the same decade...so maybe Cornell sounds like kotzen , capitche?
Canal Miranda No, he sites Sound Garden as a huge influence...also Zeppelin, which is in there too.
Zeppelin in 1970, SoundGarden 1990.
Richie Kotzen is From 1990... so...
Yeah, okay. If you want to look at it from a perspective of possibles; okay. However, I've never read or heard an article with Chris Cornell, that says Kotzen was a huge influence. Weed makes this sound like Soundgarden with musicians light years better!
Rocky Stradlin never smoked in my life and that is exactly what this sounds like. it's also more upbeat.
Rocky Stradlin
Fuck yea!!!!
Do you think Soundgarden is a band with average musicians? Lol, what a fool!
It must add so much to life to be able to play that great.
Just heard of this band a moment ago. Interesting indeed. I know of all 3 of these guys. Didn't know they had a band.
I'm tied of those people who still ditto to cite Chris Cornell.

It's like Chris Cornell led Dream Theater and they all took a bunch of acid then tried to write Zeppelin's "Black Dog"
Hahaha genius!
today, you win the internet. I laughed way too hard at that comments but only because it fits so good. bravo!
its like what if sound garden got signed by shrapnel
Have a little respect and keep your mouth shut. Chris is on another level.
Damián Perassi, Chris is nowhere even close to Kotzen.
Em vez de ouvir Vai Malandra, vou ouvir essa delícia. OBRIGADA NANDO BOURA
That Yamaha bass is the coolest bass currently being produced IMO...and distortion on a Tele? IM in!
I saw them last night in the UK, and they're just amazing musicians who are epic onstage. Enjoy!!
these are the type of songs that you need to pay attention and listen to appreciate
Nando Moura me trouxe aqui, muito foda a música.
Probably the best three piece since Cream.
tobortine Actually the best thing since Ice Cream.

tobortine Theres Rush, but yes, I totally get what you mean.
tobortine Yeah, my ASS!
Jeigh Neither
"Probably" - It means there could be doubt. Whatever I think it doesn't effect your enjoyment of Rush.
Rock d'altri tempi . Bellissima esecuzione di Billy . Bellissimo brano .
Obrigado Nando Moura, adorei a banda.

"Elevate"
Lost in the dark
I feel like a shadow of myself
I'm not what I was
I keep looking for another second chance
To get me… clean
Elevate me
Take me higher
I don't wanna be wasted
I've got nothing left to loose
It's a little known fact
I see everything black
And I don't wanna face it
Elevate me
Take me higher
The smoke and the dark
Has just taken me in
Over my head
No-one to trust
I'm feeling like I'm closely there
I was to the… end
Elevate me
Take me higher
I don't wanna be wasted
I've got nothing left to loose
It's a little known fact
I see everything black
And I don't wanna face it
Elevate me
Take me higher
I'm tired of taking the test
Don't test me
My troubled mind is a mess
You know I'm
I'm only trying my best
To be set free
Elevate me
Take me higher
I don't wanna be wasted
I've got nothing left to loose
It's a little known fact
I see everything black
And I don't wanna face it
Elevate me
Take me higher
Billy Sheehan I have to buy this on Itunes now. How have I missed this for over a year.
This is soooooooo killer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!🔥 👍
Soundgarden?
I can't believe some people actually find fault in a group of musicians because, they LACK any faulty playing and writing skills? Did I get that correct? Whoa, what planet am I on?
The vocals reminds Chris Cornell
Yeah and they both play guitar! But Kris Kornel is not as virtual as Ritchie Kosten!
Think the same!
Agreed
You mean viruose I'm guessing?
Me too!
The new Rush! Great guitarist, great bassist, and add that amazing Peart inspired drummer, and we have the new 3 piece of the time. Great, I love this!
Very nice example of tension and then release from the dark heavy verse into a beautiful chorus! Top shelf writing and playing!
I've never thought of saying this but... I'm glad of Portnoy to left A7X to create this.

REally , Really , Really AMAZING Song and Band !
My favorite album of 2013 and one of my favorite debut albums ever. I was unfamiliar with Kotzen before, but the guy has the goods. And Portnoy and Sheehan are awesome, as always.
