    The Whispering Voice is my all-time favorite ASMRtist.

      Agreed, his OG whisper game is very strong. Based on what I've heard people like him say on their channels, the creators from that era don't see a "place" for themselves in the current community, but I wish they'd reconsider. I get that the styles of ASMR getting the most traffic these days is not pure whispering, but there are many many small channels serving many niche audiences now, and I see no reason why creators like WhisperingVoice couldn't continue to grow and reach people if they kept making vids.

    I like this. I didn't know that there were already "whispered videos" before, although I might have watched some randomly without paying attention to it. A lot of people tell me that they don't watch the video, only listen to it. Some others enjoy the visual more than the sounds.
    I guess that, as for every art, it starts with basic ideas and then evolves from there. It sometimes not for the best though. It reminds me of those "early black metal" bands that I listened back in the days and how it involved afterwards. I listened to new more sophisticated bands but liked to come back sometimes to some more "primal" sounds, if I may say.
    I can hear some birds behind you. I like that too. I had intended to do some "outdoors" asmr videos the last time I went to Japan, but I gave up the idea because I thought it would be troublesome to bring all of my camera gears in the mountains. I should have only recorded the sound.
    I'll come back here to listen to the rest of the story later. The cats are calling.

      Thanks so much, Pierre, I always appreciate your support. Completely agreed with your comments. I would have loved to see (or hear) something from those mountains in Japan!
      I've mentioned before that I really want to get outdoors even more with my videos, and while shooting this one, I started to catch a small glimpse of what this channel could turn into someday. With better/stabilized video, (and a LOT more practice), I'd love to do even more touring around the countryside, putting together short videos where I bring the viewer to small places that I know, places to share thoughts or meditations, places that are compelling in their simplicity and beauty. Being able to combine hiking and the outdoors with an eye toward capturing those places and sharing them with others might be the ultimate combination for me, someday...

    Great video! I really really enjoy it. Like how you inspire and start up this historic imagination. I wondered about that spot in the distance, thought it was just some reflection or something, until you pointed it out, and gave the explanation. So fascinating, and beautiful setting! And thanks for the shout-out! I feel so honored having inspired you to parts of this amazing video :) The historic references to the whisper community was very interesting too. May I ask when you found out about Whisper Community/ASMR on youtube? I'm kind of jealous of people having been here since it all started... I have only two years' ASMR community experience (but that's not bad nowadays is it?) I find phenomenons with relatively short history to be quite interesting - there's not much written about it yet, but there will surely be eventually.. Keep up the great work :)

      You're so kind and generous with your comments here, thank you! Like you, I'm a relative newcomer to this community - I first heard about it through the episode of the NPR program "This American Life" that aired a few years ago. But I have an interest in understanding the beginnings of things, so I poked around and discovered the origins of the whisper community. I talk a lot more about my ASMR origin story on my 1-year anniversary Q&A video (check the time stamps in the description so you don't have to watch the whole thing - it came out a lot longer than I intended! ;-) Best to you.

    You was right, the pond in the woods certainly works! I love whisper videos. - Sometimes we can over complicate things and a simple rambling on in hushed tones can be all it takes to get you to the land of nod. - Your voice is just lovely. :)

      Such a good point about over complicating. The community is quite wide now, and there’s room for everything, but sometimes it is hard to deprogram, and remember that simple is still ok. Even while shooting this, the voices were nagging me - “this’ll be too boring”, “the visuals need to be more engaging”, “you’re still whispering too fast”, and on and on and on. It is surprising I shoot anything at all sometimes, you know? lol. It is hard to ignore the internal dialogue sometimes and just keep on marching.
      Thanks for your kind words, and thanks for being here!

    yup I remember those just "whispering" days before it was called ASMR. it's hard to find good whisper videos now bc it becomes focused on the visuals and the looks of the person. but if you search around you will find a good channel such as this channel. this channel reminds me of those old whisper channels :-) it is nice to have simplicity and honesty

      Thanks for saying so. Some of the OGs are even still putting out videos, which I love to see. Several of them have made comments that they weren't sure what their "place" was in the community anymore when the videos got more involved, and production values changed. But their followers are still there, and their new videos are being welcomed with the same enthusiasm as always. They're not huge channels, but it is nice to see that they still have a role to play.

    I can't even begin to imagine what it was like being a pioneer, discovering new land and building a homestead. In my own lifetime we've gone from rotary phones to pocket sized computers we call smartphones; once I couldn't think of breaking over and getting a cellphone, now I can't live without WiFi! Imagine waiting months for correspondence from friends back home, not being able to call 911 for help but relying on woodslore and prayer for medicine and your own wits and strength for defense. We live in strange times, where we live like royalty but are unhappy. Yet many of them lived like paupers, short and brutal lives, yet seemed to be more easily content if not happy. Blows the mind.

    • @GaslampASMR
      @GaslampASMR  7 лет назад

      Thanks for this amazing comment, Kyle. You definitely "get it". "We live like royalty but are unhappy." Wow, that deserves its own video, somehow. So much truth of this culture wrapped up in that one sentence. So much focus on what we don't have, rather than the relative riches that we do have. So much validation and worth placed in the wrong things, causing us to look right past our many blessings.
      Also, your point about "short and brutal lives" is well-taken. In that cemetery I visited on the way home from pond, I did see some older folks (60's to 70's), but I also saw the 7-year-old, the 14-year-old, the 24-year-old. I saw the two sisters, one 17-years-old, one 20-years-old, who passed away ONE DAY APART, buried next to their parents. An accident? Drowning?
      I hope it doesn't sound too morbid. I don't visit these places for dark reasons, and I don't visit them often. But when I do, the rush of imagination and speculation about these people from the past is nearly overwhelming sometimes, all from looking at names and dates on stones. They had such a short time to impact this world - they deserve to be wondered about from time to time.

      Thanks very much! I'm hoping to get a stabilizer for my phone very soon, which will allow me to do more of the stuff I want to do outside (rather than just tripod work, or standing in one place and panning, like in "Forgotten Cemetery"). Thanks for being here.

    • @EmpyreanLightASMR
      @EmpyreanLightASMR 7 лет назад +1

      Yes, I've wanted a stabilizer as well but the good ones are out of my pay range :P I'm looking forward to checking out your cemetery video. Cemeteries actually trigger me in real life, I love visiting them.

    • @GaslampASMR
      @GaslampASMR  7 лет назад

      Yes, understand about the cost. The stabilizers for DSLRs are beasts, but the ones for phones are slightly more approachable (price-wise). I'd appreciate your feedback on the cemetery vid, if you get a chance to see it. Best to you!

    Love your channel! Do you live in Pennsylvania by any chance? And if you do, is the "forgotten cemetery" the "pioneer cemetery" in the north mountain?

    • @GaslampASMR
      @GaslampASMR  7 лет назад

      +xchristheking25x Nope, sorry, I'm a bit father west than that. Is this cemetery in the north mountain a particularly significant pioneer cemetery? Because I'd imagine Pennsylvania's countryside is dotted with little cemeteries from that period, yes?

    • @ChrisKing1229
      @ChrisKing1229 7 лет назад +1

      I believe so. It's actually a popular hiking destination for us. It's about a 40 minute drive on dirt mountain roads or a 3 hour hike on foot. The view looks very similar to your video. I do know that some of the grave stones were civil war veterans. Those were the most recent grave stones. As alot were early to mid 1800s. Even late 1700s.

    Were you worried that someone might walk by while you were filming? :D

    • @GaslampASMR
      @GaslampASMR  7 лет назад

      +Supernova Yep, that thought definitely crossed my mind. In fact, that ridge (further uphill) is a designated camping area for scout groups, and as I drove in, I saw that there was a group already there - tents, vehicles, the whole bit. None of them wandered down close to me, though, and I didn't see any hunters, either.
      Even so, I essentially did everything more than once. First I shot about 20 minutes of ambient video/audio, in case it rained before I could finish the ramble, and I needed to do it as a voiceover at home. Then I shot a ramble, but realized that the video was way overexposed when I was done. Then I shot a second ramble with better exposure, which is this video.
      I don't need scouts or hunters to mess me up! I do a great job of that on my own. 😉
