- Things are growing! Start my day finishing up the tractor work. Shane hard at work fixing things and spreading dry fertilizer on the potato ground.Check out potato cultivation.
I'm very happy to see Shane getting more involved in this channel! He really completes it. With the two of you at this, I know this channel will grow. That said, I will always be here for the beautiful, sweet, wholesome, and hard working Molly. What a great attitude you have Molly! I love that simple things 'make you happy'. People spend a lifetime seeking happiness, whilst it is the small satisfactions daily that fuel it all. I enjoy the simplicity of your lifestyle. You have found the answers people seek with Shane. Love you two ♥
Thank you so much! I really am so lucky to life the life I do. 🫶
I concur. Shane's a bit camera shy, but he's got very interesting things to say.
Every day is a school day. Shane ‘adapt and overcome’ the dry fertiliser spreader loading. Really interesting video. Thanks for posting. 🇬🇧👍👍👍
Thank you Molly and Shane 👍🏻 Have a great day 🌞 my friends! God Bless 🙏🏻 Appreciate you!💚
Neat to see how the seed produces plants and then potatoes. Thanks Molly
Wow, Farmers! Jack of all trades! Hat’s off to all of you!
Lovely soil, especially for potatoes and any other root crop!!
That was very impressive that you pulled that turtle out of the way Molly you’re really brave.
You’re the best the two of you together ,let your love grow ❤along with the crops…
I'm always fascinated by what I learn from your channel. Great stuff!
I love the get to work. I think you all should incorporate that line on t shirts and hats etc. Make sure there's a pic of Shane saying it.
Yes we were just talking about that
nice job with the turtle they have very long necks.i remember catching those on f=fishing trout line as a boy.
You could use one of the tractor implements that gathers up rocks, being the State of Maine. That potato hiller is one good idea. That dry fertilizer dump truck is big enough that it needs a powerful cab to haul the fertilizer around and dump it to be put into some sort of an implement to spread it.
Nice shot of the fertilizer spreading in front of the camera!! After all the channels I follow, you're the fist to show how the roots form on growing plants, nice!!
Awesome! I thought everyone would like to see that!
I love that you’re so concerned about the turtle.❤
Try and not "predict" the Commentsection . Lol. Looks like the fertizer got in the spreader to me ! Betcha Shane saw a few episodes of maguyver back in the day!! "This one gave it away" gotta say Mol your observant! Good work guys!
You got that right! Haha he is a total macguyver!
Shane is a great teacher, thanks for sharing its very interesting to see how specialty crops are raised
Nothing better than a beautiful little lady in a tractor❤️🔥
Thank you for showing us what you do with the potatoes. It's nice to see we do it almost the same way. Greetings from potato grower Jilles Boer
Thank you so much for checking it out! Hope your season is going well too!
@@BellsFarming The potatoes are growing well. It has rained a lot here so we can't do anything on the land now because it is too wet. It will be drier again in the coming days. Greetings Jilles
Super job on the log tilling, good girl saving the mama turtle, tell Shane I did see him, lol, Jack, RI, USA
That trick at the end with the dry fertilizer is damn genius! That was probably a dozen or more loads from the dumptruck, be amazed if you even spilled a handful of material. "Whatever works!" And that works!
1 BEAUTIFUL SNAPPER RIGHT THERE...
Hi Molly . What a nice big TURTLE 🐢🐢 You have near your Garden.... I aways see your Door of your Truck open .... I hope you don't hit the Turtle 😔.... Thank you Shane for watching over that Cool Turtle 🐢... It's aways GREAT to see you guys and Working together and injoy your life together.... God bless you both 😻 and your family and Animals 💞
I hope I don’t hit any turtle! I have a bad habit of leaving my door open
Excellent job 👏 thank you Molly and Shane that was very interesting and informative, the potatoes 🥔 are coming along great, nice to see the root system which people don't usually get to see, thank you for another fascinating video😊 all the best from the UK 🇬🇧
Molly is a Potato guru.
That's nice I sé you vlog, I like to go to farm but I'm here in the hóuse goodluck have nice day ,.in
Thanks for the tater updates! btw...I bought those guns n roses albums when they came out. I was in high school back then. I mainly listen to country but about a week ago "civil war" crossed my mind and I listened to that song. ...been quite a while
I love the fact Shane shows Everything..Cool 🍺🥂👊👍🙂
He is the man with all the knowlage!
@@BellsFarming I had no idea that back filling the lower stalk produces more potatoes, I'll be doing that in my garden for sure.🙂👊🥂🍺👍
Great job - best video yet - keep up the good work!
Thank you!
Shane is a natural on camera 👏
In Wisconsin there's field corn, sweet corn, popcorn, etc. Crops grow in soil. It's alive. My Soils professor said dirt is what you get from a vacuum cleaner. Dr James Love was at UW Madison. Fyi
Ha! Very good point. Thank you 😊
Shane that is awesome...Farming like ranching there is always always some repairs never fails never how careful a person is something always blows like the hose. Just went to TSC and got a hose for the bailer came home hooked it up checked fluids filled them and started bailer and another hose blew...ughhh. shut down everything and ow back to store again 45 minutes away...And sadly all this and more was inspected to make sure everything was good. Take care have fun thanks Molly Shane for sharing learn so much about spuds from you and the plants!!. thanks for saving the turtle.
Thanks, Molly. You must be tired of my questions by now, but the nitrogen fertiliser: I assume it's in some kind of liquid form and is sprayed out? Your videos are very informative, and I really enjoy them (plus the interaction). I've learnt more about potato farming in the last three weeks than in the preceding 74 years!
I don’t mind your questions Phillip! The nitrogen is liquid and is applied at planting 2 inches away from the seed piece
@@BellsFarming Thank you.
Molly shags rocks! she`s great...
Learned a little more each video nice to see wildlife around healthy looking snapping turtle also nice fertilizer dumping station….Now get back to work🤣later y’all.❤️😎🇺🇸
😆
Thanks Molly
Hey Molly & Shane thank you for the video. It was quite interesting to see the whole process, from fertilizing to cultivating and then show us what the result is. It’s amazing to me that that 100 acre Field will produce the amount of potatoes that will fill up all of those storage bins. I do have one question, if more land became available for you to farm would you take advantage of either to purchase or rent? And I would have to say I agree with Shane preventative maintenance is the most cost-effective.
Love this channel!
Another Great Video 👍 Great content, keep up the great work!
Just a quick question for Molly,Is Ray your brother?? Either way I haven't seen him since the early 80s,always was a nice guy,,Thanks you guys are a joy to watch, hard workers
Hi Molly, I just want to say hi to you and say i really love your channel and the content, and thank you and Shane for taking good care of the mother snapping turtle, I'll see you in the next one!🖐
Thank you very much! I love animals too!
Shane is doing a good jog and is becoming a blogger😉
I know! We all want more Shane!
Reminds me of Bungee Support -
Hell you look sweet though.Xx 🇬🇧❤️
U gotta love tractor supply - great for hoses and fittings and such. Got 2 new hoses for my 1942 Farmall M blade last fall :) they work great and priced right !
That was an awesome hack Shane! I thought it came like that too 🤣
Hahah he’s good like that!
Molly(The Cindy Crawford Farm Girl )I'm very glad that you and Shane lookout for wildlife in your fields...Snapping turtles 🐢 are very dangerous if not handled correctly ...Just make sure you both keep all ten of your finger..
Thank you, Molly. Thank you, Shane. Great seedbeds. Great root systems started. Good starts are needed to harvest a good crop.
Thanks Molly! 🐾🌽🌻
😁🌱🐕🫶
Molly! You’re gonna lose an arm moving that turtle 😂
Shane saw two more in Lewiston today! They are everywhere! Keep a look out
Hi good am here that's cool you l"always work in your farm ,,,,I see you vlog in you tube it's a big land to cultivate ,,,and don't hesitate or angry to you colleges
If you keep up the good work with the disc you’ll be stuck doing that forever! Thanks for the video. I really enjoy the informative nature of every video!
Hahah
Hey Shane, loved seeing you filming and I like the way you adapted the fertilizer loading to fit your needs using the skid steer. It ain't wrong if it works!! Great video and I love learning about what all you do on your farm.
I love it when he has a camera too! It really does bring so much to the channel!
@@BellsFarming For sure it does!!
Very nice video...thank you.
That works good I think Shane I use bulk bags and the skid steer as well.. LoL
We used bulk bags for a few years, one would always rip and spill a bunch.600$ a bag that’s no -good at all
@@shanebell9589 Wow, The seed dealer was telling to use his tender.... Lesson learned, thanks Shane.
I wish I had a tender. Gonna try and whip up some stainless steel auger setup at some point. The bags are cheap enough but the product is way too expensive to be spilling on the ground.
Looks, like egg time for turtles. They have a natural gps in their brain. Nano magnetic particles. When they are on course they feel good. If they waiver they feel bad. You can move them 20 ft and turn them around. They will go back initially to where you moved them from. Intense Solar flares can disturb their trip. Canadian Geese have the same system. However they have learned that those black Strips below are good to follow as they can't get shot! 😊. I95 SOUTH BABY! Carter Canada
Hahah poor turtles! We always flag their eggs in the fields if we actually find a nest. Shane saw two more today in a different field
Please don't stop giving us info
I can't wait until Shane does his "welding spotlight" video!!
I've tried to tell people you should hill potato's. You get more potato's using this process, than just planting on the flat ground.
That’s what we think!
Great job Shane
Another great video. Kinda personal question..... since you worked in dental what do you use for teeth whitening? It's nice seeing Shane more in videos and telling a little history 👍
I’m glad he is doing more in the videos too! I used a crest whiting toothpaste. It’s a red tube. I have used crest whiting strips in the past but it’s been years!
They do say...ROWS...before HOSE! 😊😅
nice job helping the turtle .
🐢😁 she didn’t want my help haha
My opinion, instead of moving the log from 1 field to the other, would it be to expensive for another log in the other field, places on the side, use two large eye bolts, placed in the logs and some clevises on the chains or cable. Might save time on waiting for the log to be moved, my opinion only, love your videos and awesome job.👍👍👍👍👍
If the turtle is there every year, maybe you could make a sand pit over by the timberline for her to lay eggs in?
I don't know if you ever saw the eggs but they look like Ping-Pong balls. Found a bunch in a top soil pile at work, co worker took them home and hatched out 10 and let go in the lake by his house.
Better than the farmer in Michigan that ran over a turkey.
😞
THANKS!
Looks good guys
Here in limington. They are starting to touch between the rows. Growing fast
Molly and Shane! Another great video! I like the look at the different growing phases! How often do you guys water? For my garden I water early morning and evening, roughly 12 hours apart. Everything is looking great!
I have watered it but once. We have been getting lots of small showers
@@BellsFarming that’s perfect. Saves you guys from having to do it. Btw your tomato plants are getting huge!
I like 2 tie my lift arms together so they won't be slapping against the cab lol
I am sorry that i am watching your video late because my grandfather die and next day was my engagement but video is awesome
Sorry for the loss of your grandfather 🫶
Really enjoyable watch this morning. (NZ time). How many hours has Shane’s tractor done. Good job.
That 4255 actually has 14,560 hours on it. I did a full engine rebuild at 10,000 hours though. It’s still a great tractor
You guys ever use a rock rake for the fields ? Hope the turtles eggs are okay
We have had a rock bucket In The past. But might be looking for a different option.
Just as an idea for next year and future years if that location has turtles coming up to Kay eggs build a barrier that prevents her from laying in the field. She will be forced to lay her eggs along the perimeter!
We found two more turtles in another field lol I guess we just have to be cautious. I thought about painting the shells. But ima sure people would not like that!
Pretty cool the way you guys do what you do. Be careful of those turtles they can snap hard.
Interesting video, thank you😊
My single potato plant needs hilling I think.
Another fascinating insight to potato farming. Holy snapper! Ever come across Moose or any other animal while in the field?
I saw one moose. Lots of foxes deer and turkeys
That was a huge snapping turtle
Hey Molly, where do y'all sell those roast-neers?
That turtle, yikes! Don't get near the business end...!
What is considered a good amount of potatoes per plant.does it depend on the type of plant
Hey y'all
Hey hey!
@@BellsFarming dealing with washouts can be a task definitely
🥔👑I don't think the 🐢would think it's a good idea to lay eggs in an open field so maybe she is just getting a free meal of corn? Gotta think like a 🐢😄
Hahah
Oh yes ,potatoes! How could I forget. The difference I seen is that with our planter we put all the fertilizer in the ground while planting to the tune of 1200 lb. per acre of 6-12-12. How much & what analysis do you use per acre ??
We put about 1200 lbs dry and a good chunk of liquid at planting
What do those bugs cost you in pesticides? Would ladybugs make much of a difference?
I’m not sure exactly what they use for them. But there are to many acres to use lady bugs :) 🐞
Snapping turtles can be aggressive. I had one block a portage trail between lakes when I went on a canoe trip. It thought it owned the trail and had it's head up and ready to snap me as I passed by with a canoe over my head and carrying a 40 lb backpack. I took a run around it and it reared up and tried to take a hunk out of my leg but missed. They are BIG and have powerful jaws.
My oldest brother is missing.half a finger from messing with a snapping turtle when he was 12.
I’m surprised! I as it an alligator snapper?
@@BellsFarming No it was just a mean onery regular snapper. It was giving me the stink eye and had it's head way up when I was 25 feet away. Maybe somebody else before me did something to make it angry? Poked it. It took a swipe at me as I passed by.
Do you order a custom blend from your bulk fertilizer dealer ? You Nitrogen is what I guess to be 32% solution. My family had a bulk plant for years and I spent many days and night working in the blend plant. The spreader fan and pulleys were way to familiar.
Shane will have to answer that question. But yes it is a custom blend.
Molly does it seem besides the crops you plant the field grows rocks?
Hi Molly and Shane. Could you describe how the gps guidance works for your rows. I understand in general but can’t figure how it works for the start of each set of rows.
You go through a lot of steps so that we can have potatoes on our table.
question.
Were you ever able to work that piece of land you got stuck on, if not will it ever get worked?
Not really! We spread some winter rye there. But I show it in the video I just posted.
We dont need no stinking globe!🤪
how do you control potato bugs?
Do you tow a log behind the disc to level the ground?
Yes, and to make a smooth seed bed. I always joke and say in 1000 years the fields will all be flat Hahahah
@@BellsFarming I used to do that behind what we called a Spring Tooth 12' or so wide behind a 44 Massey.
You call them hills , we call them stitches
What part of the country? Or is it different country like Australia? Regardless thank you from the mid-Midwest where we raise soy beans filled corn little bit of wheat. Or we caught the tri-state area Illinois Missouri Iowa

Thank for watching us too!
Good evening, how are you
don't use tape with oil.
You do when it’s what you have
Why does your fertilizer come from us?
Because it’s the good stuff
@@BellsFarming 🤣👍
Did I hear you right? 900 lbs/ acre. What blend?
Yes 900 lbs, don’t have the paperwork on me to check the specific s of the blend
How do you control the potato beetles and bugs.
We work with IPM program that the university of Maine helps us with.
when will you start watering if at all?
Hopefully not at all! So far we’ve been getting enough rain
