    I’m crying watching this.😭 I miss my daddy so much! He passed away in 2018 (I can’t believe it’s been that long), and I had not caught the gardening bug at that time. Every time I’m outside in my yard and garden I think of him and wish he was with me. He would LOVE gardening with me. He’s one of the reasons I started a RUclips gardening channel. I miss him so much. Your daddy being so helpful and encouraging reminds me of my daddy. Plant more potatoes so he can help you harvest more and more! Thank you, Becky!💚💚💚💚

    I love to watch potato harvests. I agree with others that you shouldn't wash potatoes that you are intending to store. It is best to keep them as dry as possible during the curing stage. I do gently brush off the soil a day or two after harvesting. I only wash when I am preparing them to eat. What a fun day for you and your family!

Our goal is for each child to be successful, happy with their life and secure in the unconditional love of their parents, in order to go far in life. My parents also taught me all about love unconditionally. I miss them so much.

    Becky you need to get a potato fork. It will greatly reduce the chance of chopping a potato the way the shovel does. It will also be alot easier for Pop to dig. Love your channel Borky!

    • @Beezer.D.B.
      @Beezer.D.B. 4 месяца назад +10

      Yes, I was thinking the same thing. Those 4 tine garden forks are great for bringing the potatoes up from the deep leaving much of the loosened soil behind. You can still hand dig for more, but it will be easy in the loosened soil. I have a shorter handled one too, that works great in raised beds… plus I’m short anyway, so it works better for me at regular garden level too.
      Beautiful potatoes and your soil looks rich and well managed!! 🥔

    2 recommendations:
    1.) make your life easier by pulling up the potatoe plant first instead of digging them all up. Most of the times the potatoes are still attached to the roots of the plant and 70-90% of the potatoes can be pulled out quite easily. It also reduces the risk of damaging the potatoes if you get the majority out before you dig for the rest.
    2.) don’t throw the potatoes into the basket. Potatoes can bruise easily and rot faster and can’t be stored very long.
    Greetings from Austria

    Google says the number one rule to preserve potatoes, DO NOT WASH FROM GARDEN, simply rub as much dirt off as possible. Wash as you use them. They last longer that way. I used to grow gardens and we NEVER washed then right away and they lasted months. Good luck. I'm too old now to garden. Loved watching you harvest. Beautiful raised beds.

    A great idea for a cleaning station is to find an old steel kitchen sink and install into a bench outside. Waste water can then drain straight into a bucket to go on garden or via drain pipe. Gives you a work station as well.

    Becky, you should start compiling pictures of your garden and your family doing gardening and enjoying meals from your garden. Then you should think about doing a hard cover table book filled with wonderful, colorful pictures and garden experiences for purchase. You could add some recipes too. *** I have a friend that made a potato/vegetable washing area at her gardens. She got a stainless steel drum from an old washing machine. She had a friend weld her a circular frame on legs that it sets down in about 6". She then cut cedar boards and screwed them to the outside and puts a planter in the top with flowers. At harvest time she removes the planter and puts her vegetables in the washer drum and runs her hose over them. All the muddy water and dirt passes right through and it looks beautiful throughout the summer! 🌞

    Your dad reminds me of my husband and how he helps our girls. Such a wonderful example for Josh as a young dad! As I’m sure his own father is as well. Happy anniversary to your parents, we’ll celebrate our 37th next month!

    The worms with band are females with eggs, and yes worms will eat the potatoes when they get soft spots. I raised fishing bait worms. They will eat any raw plant scraps. If you want to start or introduce worms into your different garden beds, just go to a bait shop and buy a box of worms and put them into the garden bed or large area.
