Another short but interesting video. FYI the latest version of the CTL-SYS now has a new hose which is super-flexible and is dead smooth on the outside - much easier to use and to stow. But I feel your pain !! I have an entire Sys 5 full of cobbled-together hoses because almost every piece of kit I own has a different sized extractor nozzle !!! One for my Hilti diamond core drill, one for a Mirka Deros, another one for DeWalt and Makita mitre saws, another one from a Nilfisk vacuum with the Festool end on it for the TS55 and OF-2200M - along with an array of short adaptors, extension couplers, bleed valves and so on. Gaaaah !!! Why can't these manufacturers get together and agree on a standard, I wonder?
That’s the joy of standards - so many to choose from, lol! This was my first ever video from a few years ago, at least a year before I stared posting regularly, so quite a trip down memory lane!! 👍👍
Ian Rose Thanks! This was my first video, posted about a year before I started posting regularly. I think they've improved a bit - maybe they're just getting longer 😄👍
I have gone back to the very beginning Peter. Your very first video was of just as great quality as your current ones. It should keep me quiet for a while catching up on the ones I have missed 😀
Hi Peter, I am using the ctl in my shop as my main vacuumcleaner with own build cycloon. Now i notice it is not succeeding to get all of the wood chips lately. Could this be the bag filling up with fine dust? Or is there a flaw in my cycloon setup? Or… Maybe this is a good subject for the ctl. Thanks Marco
Hi Marco. Never used a cyclone I’m afraid, so not something I have any experience with. I’d guess it’s the bag - worth changing it to see, I’d say - but it’s only a guess I’m afraid. 👍
I always felt the hose garages on all the Festool extractors was too small, once hack though, has made any noticeable difference to the efficiency. Thanks for sharing. Regards Kevin.
Hi Uncle Peter, love your video :) I had just built an relay module for the CTL-SYS together with the Festool Bluetooth remote kit. Maybe you like to look at it. And this is really useful when on-site and go cordless. Thank you Take Care And Stay Safe
My first ever RUclips video from 7 years ago! This video got me my first 40 subscribers, and it was 6 months before I posted another. 🙌 The hose is a standard Mirka 22mm hose, comes with the hand sanding set that Mirka do, or as an accessory. Thanks for the comment, and best wishes from London!👍👍
bit of black heatshrink tube on the 90° bend end where the 22mm meets the 27 would neaten up the look a little. how does the reduced diameter go with performance, such as planing and larger chip extraction?
PitmanCabinetmaking Yes, it would - though to be fair, this was my first video from ~18 months ago, and the friction fit with a bit of duct tape is holding up well 😀. 'Suckage' is definitely reduced with the smaller hose though - great for sanding, sawing, drilling etc... not so much for routing & planing; but the D27 isn't so hot there either, D36 is a better option, and then we'd be taking this little vac well outside its intended purpose, I think. I use mine in domestic situations, for light cutting/drilling/sanding operations, and for post-job clean-up; works great for that 👍 Edited to add: more like from 2 years ago, and damn, that shop looks empty, lol!
Hi there. I"m so sorry for the ridiculously slow response - these comments have only just popped into my feed for some reason! Yes, heat-shrink would make it look better - works fine as it is though. And yes, you do get some loss of suction using a narrower hose, but it's fine with say, a tracksaw, sander etc... Wouldn't go near it with a planer or anything that makes larger chips. Cheers, Peter
Agreed the detachable hose garage is a couple of inches too shallow. I just take the top garage off and use it as a tool caddy and attach a systainer 1 or 2 on top of vac. The anti static hose , power cord and plug it cords fit in dead easily together with tubes and head for cleaning -also you have a much better carrying handle on the top of the sys. I would also add that I have added a Festool handle to the side of the vac which makes it way easier to carry when the garage is detached -simples :)
+Zuber Ismail Tracksaw is fine, with a small (hand held) electric plane it’s the hose size that usually causes issues, as I’ve found the 27mm hose can clog easily with the larger shavings, even using a Midi or CT22.
Hi Peter, love the videos even though I am a simple DIY'er who has almost no skill whatsoever! :-) I have just bought a Festool Mini and am about to buy an Erbauer plunge saw, do you happen to know what kind of adapter (if any) I need to fit the Erbauer to the Festool Mini? Apols if you have covered this elsewhere!
Hi Simon & Thanks! The Festool Mini comes with a D27 hose as standard, which I would expect to fit in the Erbauer without an adapter - this was certainly the case with my Titan tracksaw - but you may want to check the specs on the Erbauer as I don’t have any direct experience of them I’m afraid! 👍
Suction is reduced, but with the TS55, sander, small router, it's fine. No good with a planer, or larger router/bits though - it's too narrow, as much as anything. 👍
Hi Andrew. I did lash something together - even shot a video about it - but whilst it worked well it was all a bit janky. Anyway, I found something from industrial vaccuum people Rupes that does the job - it's a 'threaded rubber hose fitting with flow gauge' part number 107.502/C and cost me about £10. The threaded part isn't *quite* the right size for a D27 hose, but you can make it fit and it works pretty well. I bought mine from these guys :- www.powertoolsalesuk.com/rupes-threaded-rubber-hose-fitting-with-flow-gauge.html Hope that helps, and thanks for taking a look! Peter
+zciweikruzam Hi Peter I have a ctl midi and was wondering if I could change out the electronics from it to work in the ctl sys. I've still got to get the ctl sys and will see if there is a size possibility to wire up the midi electronics in the sys system. Obviously the warranty goes out of the window. I might give it a crack. I'll have to see how the sys works first. cheers Andrew
+zciweikruzam There's very little space on the CTL SYS so I doubt the electronics from the Midi would fit, but if you do try it then do a video of it and put it on RUclips! I'm very happy with the Sys, used it pretty much daily for the last six (!) months without any real issues. Also have an original Midi, great vacs. BTW have just posted the 'bleed valve' video - figured it was about time ;). Cheers, Peter
+Peter Millard Hi Peter I checked out my new sys, and as you say very little room in there for any upgrades. I did manage to slow down the sys a bit by putting an electronic speed controller between the power cable and mains seemed to work ok but not as controllable as the midi controller. I was quite surprised at the power of the sys. I'll be checking out an auto start controller as that power outlet doesn't work with the speed controller. Cheers Andrew
+zciweikruzam Beginning to sound like quite a lot of effort, but good luck with it! Actually I found that fitting the smaller diameter hose also reduced the suction a bit, which helped when sanding delicate surfaces. And yes, the SYS is a powerful little extractor - replaced my Midi completely for onsite installs etc... Cheers, Peter
Hi Peter, thanks for all your videos - always informative. You've had no problems switching from an anti static hose to a normal one? I'm assuming the Mirka hose isn't anti static?
It's a quiet Friday here, for a change, so it's all the way back to Video #1. Quite poignant really as after several weeks of use with my new TS55, which is bloody fantastic and has totally replaced the Table Saw. Anyway extraction..... its a F&*k*%g nightmare... the Festool TS55 hose adaptor seems only to want to mate with a Lady Festool and when I try to mate it with my Lady Hose, well the thing keeps slipping out. Here is where I see the brilliance of the Festool hose system, but get pissed off with proprietary fittings. Next purchase.... an M Class planet.... that should read M class Festool hoover ;)
Ah, yes, hose sizes & adapters can be a pain. You can get adapters of course, but then you have an adapter hanging off the back of the saw as well. Not for nuthin’ is a Festool vac often purchase #2... 😬🤷♂️
I started watching you from #-001 to end. It is a new goal. I just love your advice, tricks and tips!!!!!
By the way, I love the way how you cleaned up your workshop just for your first video. It looks perfect.
🙂
Thanks Stephanie! I think the workshop just had less going on in it back then! 😂🤷♂️👍

Old vid! The Mirka hose works well, suckage is a bit less but not desperately so, and I much prefer the flexibility. 👍
Hi Peter what are the clips on the dust hose
In this video they were just velcro straps, but I use ones from Karl at StrawByte now - www.strawbyte.com/merchandise?category=Workshop+Jigs 👌👍

Hi Peter, how efficient is it with a track saw and say a small electric plane? especially with the supplied hose.
+Zuber Ismail Tracksaw is fine, with a small (hand held) electric plane it’s the hose size that usually causes issues, as I’ve found the 27mm hose can clog easily with the larger shavings, even using a Midi or CT22.
Is there anyone that can effortlessly get the supplied hose into the "garage" of a CT SYS? It's an engineering marvel... except for hose stowage.
Hello, May i ask where i would find that hose, it would be perfect for my dust collection for my woodturning lathe
Hi. The black hose? It's from a Mirka hand sanding kit, hose available as a separate item here - amzn.to/2snGrHD. 👍

Hi, I like the style of that new Festool vacuum. How much did you say it cost you in euros? Cheers
Don’t know, I’m sorry. I paid about £250, though t’s an old vid btw. They’re about £290 now, I think 👍
How will suction be with A TS 55 will it have enough ?
Suction is reduced, but with the TS55, sander, small router, it's fine. No good with a planer, or larger router/bits though - it's too narrow, as much as anything. 👍
Hello Peter
Any luck with the variable suction idea as mentioned ?
Cheers
