    I started in the masonry trade in 1968 as a hod carrier. The last twenty years of my career I worked as a foreman on many school, hospital and water treatment plant jobs. For two years I taught adult education masonry courses at a technical trade school. Those are my qualifications and for what it’s worth, I’d like to say something I hope would be helpful. The quality of your work is your reputation, and everyone can see it. For me, the main thing was the bricklayer’s attitude. A genuine cheerful, positive, helpful attitude was important for my crew, if a person had that I could overlook a few technical flaws. Watch your body at work. Watch every single motion. How many taps with your trowel, or steps to the mud board are really necessary? Eliminate all the wasted motions and you’ll be more productive and less tired. I enjoyed your video and can see you’re on your way with a good career. Best wishes to you and all my fellow bricklayers from the Appalachian Mountains of Pennsylvania USA!

    Thoroughly enjoyed that, thank you. As a brickie who worked for many many years in MK and London, it was a great trip down memory lane. I now lay my bricks in NZ, totally different. Lovely video.

      Milton keynes and london is where you worked. Now in NZ, as in new Zealand? What are you thoughts on bricklaying. No bias. The good and bad. In the uk not in NZ.

      You obviously never worked in construction before, life is not like you see in the movies where in this type of jobs(strength focus jobs) every men is sexist and rude, but let me tell you something, I have been in brick laying business for more then 7 years and we had to work with women a couple of times and they NEVER got disrespected or mistreated, sure, there where some guys started saying some sexist jokes behind their backs but that was nothing more then manly insecurities talking,as soon the women's came back to our side they behaved like puppies

    How much do you earn a day I want to start bricklaying it looks fun

    • @craigread5603
      @craigread5603 5 месяцев назад

      It isn't fun, it's a lot of hard work. You won't be working at that pace, you have to be a lot faster. No one appreciates what you do and nearly everyone will try and pay you as little as possible for your expertise that takes years to develop. It's good to be outside exercising all day but you also have to have a good diet if you don't want to be completely exhausted after work every day. Even then, some days you will get home and barely be able to move. There's a reason why a much higher percentage of builders do gear on a regular basis. All that said though, if you live a clean lifestyle then it is a good job 😂

      Haha, i have never come across such negativity towards a girl or a lad starting out in the trade no wonder there a lack of women in the trade and a lack of young men also wanting to take up bricklaying,i am giving my opinion as a bricklayer that i have seen alot worse on site bricklaying than that young woman and these so called pros will tell you there at it years , so if your a brickie tell me that u havent come across these so called pros with there filty trowels and levels and there tools in a old paint bucket and holes in there boots and health a safety is a money racket , so go fxxk yourself buddy , how many brickies u see on site cleaning there levels manky fxxkers,

      I agree its a hard job for men ,and would not like to employ a female myself as i am sure a female is entitled to 9 months maternity leave that u have to pay haha,i work in london i have over 25 years as a brickie and to be honest i think she will be a fine brickie and i have seen worse OLD HANDS on site than her haha, but fair play to her and any one person male or female to take up the trade as u know they do a day or a week and tell u its not for them that they didnt think it was so hard i think the young people in general dont want to work hard and when i look at my kids there the same ,we created the problem giving them to much so fair play to this young woman better work ethic than alot of lads on site and im sure u will agree mate🙂
