Im in year9 but the time is going so fast so im watching this video to see what i would love to do when i leave so i have some ideas and im deffo choosing brick laying
Ah wicked! Maybe whilst you’re still at school try and see if you can go in on a Saturday with a local builder and see if you like it? Bricklaying definitely has a lot of pros and cons. If you can learn a trade you can take it anywhere in the world
Hi I've done 2-3 months of masonry training, I would like to become an apprentice and start working at a job site. I didn't pass the course but I still hsve to find work. Sjoulf I work as a labourer first since I only have a little bit of experience in masonry or can I just apply for a bricklayer job? Also what are the qualifications to apply for a masonry job as an apprentice?
You can start of as a labourer off course but you’ll still need a cscs card if you’re in the uk. If you have little experience get a job as a hod carrier and learn what people are doing. You don’t need qualifications to be honest, they’re just to get the correct colour cscs cards, if you can lay bricks and or willing to learn people will take you on my friend
Hello Adam I'm 17 and In college doing my level 1 in brickwork but I was thinking about getting an apprenticeship instead of going to college, do you think It's worth it. And do I need an NVQ level 1 or 2 to become a bricklayer and work for big companies/ contractors or just relevant experience.
Hello mate, thanks for watching. If I was you I would start an apprenticeship asap. NVQ L1 is basically worth fuck all. NVQ L2 will get you a blue cscs card which would say bricklayer on it but I have never been asked before I start a job, they’ll just see if you’re any good the first hour and then leave you too it. Relevant experience is key. The quicker you get on a building site the better
Ring up your big local bricklaying companies and ask for a job as an improver on a big commercial site, that way you’ll be laying bricks day in and day out improving daily. Good luck 😁👍🏻
Can u become a bricklayer at 18 and get an apprenticeship after doing a completely different subject at college or do u have to go back and do a level one course at college if that makes sense
Hello Leo, yeah of course you can do an apprentership, the best thing for you to do is start ringing the big local companies to you and see what they can offer, get it all in place ready to start a day release at college in September
Hi Adam im currently doing level 2 bricklaying and should be finished by the 1st of July. I’ve spoken to my tutors about what qualification i will gain from this course and its a level 2 diploma, So i was wandering what exactly can i do with this because ive been told i cant go on site with it. Thanks Adam
You’ll be able to jump on site as an improver. A lever 2 diploma will give you a blue cscs card which’ll show you have a trade. Just be expecting to be on a low wage whilst you build yourself up because it’s all about experience rather than qualifications. Also loads of bricklayers don’t have any qualification but you’ll still be able to get on site
@@cf7737 no problem mate, all I’ve got is a level 2 and no one has ever asked to see it, it just determines what cscs card you get or cis it might have changed name. Well worth keeping it up 👍🏻
@@heroicflawzyt3610 plumbing is a great trade.. however I don’t think days of bricklaying are over, the money is sky high and no signs of the industry moving on
Ring the big companies with multiple projects on and tell them your situation. The best way to further your skills would be by working for someone just continuously laying! Hopefully that helps and good luck! Oh and get a cscs card and a UTR number for tax purposes
@@AdamHatch I'm doing my level 3 at the moment it's a complete waste of time, it's better to get a blue card and the bigger money than waste 2 years of your like doing 4 days on site for £65 a day and a college day. Next year level 3 doesn't exist it's called level 2 extended. I wouldn't regret anything unless you want to get into site management if not it's a no brainer.

To get a blue cscs card you need a NVQ level 2 which will say you are a bricklayer 👍🏻

This is true, this is one of my first videos, really I should make a fully updated version
