It is a great looking revolver and I love the 6-shots for a j-frame size revolver!!! I wish S&W and Ruger's J-frame revolvers in 357/38 were 6-shot. I love my SP101 and I would love to get a S&W 640 some day, but I would prefer a 6-shot capacity instead of 5 any day. Thank you for this review, I'm adding this one to my wish list!!
Love it! Having real sites on a snubby is a great feature. The design ability to remove the cylinder for cleaning is a big plus. Polished stainless always looks even better in person than in video. Looks to be closer in size to my S&W Model 60 than my Ruger SP101 or maybe it splits the difference. For whats offerered on this revolver I'd call it a bargain.
Maybe Ruger doesn't want to cannibalize sales of their GP100, but I think it's about time for a revolver the size and weight of the SP101 (and equivalent S&Ws) to hold 6 rounds, such as this Diamondback and Kimber's K6S.
If they don't, it would be an EPIC lost opportunity of their part! I even wrote Diamondback asking them to do it, since they only other modern revolver that does it is the Taurus 692, and that is much bigger than the SDR and the 692 is nearly impossible to find in stock anywhere.
I noticed that the cylinder itself is marked ".38/.357." I can't imagine a reason to take the trouble to do this unless they are planning an interchageable cylinder in another chambering. If so, the only logical upcoming offering would be 9x19. I also noticed the recessed charge holes. Nice touch.
Almost like on Leathal Weapon movie.... somebody almost made a smilyface on the head of tge target. Good way to start Friday. HAMMER TIME! MC Hammer? Nope, Hammer Striker time!
Diamondback makes good airboats. Slight correction: with a transfer bar system, the _hammer_ NEVER strikes the firing pin. It strikes the transfer bar which _transfers_ the energy of the hammer to the firing pin. Hence the name. The hammer nose ALWAYS lands on the frame of the revolver.
S&W J frame model 637 has a exposed hammer like this Diamond Back. I think this Diamond Back will be a big hit, it sure looks nice and you did an excellent review.
Would like to see a 7-shot, 327 Federal Magnum version. 357 magnum is too stout for a snubbie... and 7 rounds of 327 magnum beats 6 rounds of 38 special.
It’s not even on the market yet and you are already bitching about it not being a327 mag 7 shot. Can you not just appreciate a new pistol for what it is rather than for what it’s not?
As a Colt revolver guy I really like the rear sights not being adjustable for carry.hope they bring out a 3 and and a 4.25 with same rear sights and id consider adding one.not much of a 2" revolver guy though. Other than that,I like it.good job DB!
@@kenhoward3512 Also the K6S DASA with the exposed hammer. And in the same class as the new series Colt Cobra and King Cobra and discontinued Magnum Carry unicorn.

Didn't know RUclips University added a course in expert Gunsmithing. For all the naysayers, just be thankful that a company such as Diamondback exists and builds quality firearms. To ALL of the "experts" telling others what's best for the masses, your opinion is no more right or wrong than anyone else's. @Hammer Striker, I appreciate your comments and what I believe is an unbiased review.
As many people have asked that question on almost every social media platform and asked the rep at the shot show counter, if Diamondbacks PR and R&D don't take note and make it happen, they are crazy. 9mm ammo is dirt cheap compared to .38 and .357 at the moment. If DB doesn't do it and soon, I can really see an aftermarket company jumping in and doing it. A 9mm QD cylinder that is reasonably priced I personally believe would put the SDR ahead of just about every other snubby on the market. Korth and taurus make some larger ones, but I don't know of any snubby with that feature. Combine that with it taking interchangeable sights, j frame grips and holsters, being a 6 shot, and having a trigger like that and DB could very well become the Glock of revolvers. The only feature left that I can think of would be a top strap rail for optic mounts.
First person to review this! I’m hoping they give us a 9mm cylinder to pop in this gun. It’s the only logical reason for the added expense and complexity of a removable cylinder on a double action revolver.
If you look closely at the cylinder is labeled 357/38, that tells me they did that with plans of releasing a 9mm cylinder in the future for this as well, makes it easier to identify what cylinder is out of the revolver
@@takumisato7126 Good catch. I think the Ruger .22 convertibles also have the cylinders labeled. Although, it is easy to tell the difference due to the fluting on the .22lr vs non-fluted .22 mag.
I love my J-Frame S & W, 38 +P but this little revolver has me questioning my purchase. 6 shots vs 5, not only will it fire anything my J-Frame can fire but it's also can shoot .357 through a 2" barrel vs the Smith's inch and seven eighths inch barrel. With barrels this short, that extra one eighth of an inch could go a long way in bragging rights. As far as the Hillary Hole, that can be remedied with an inexpensive part called a "Bill Insert."
Diamondback did impressive job on this one. 👍🏼👏🏼🤟🏼 But is that just a bit too shiny? Especially when it's meant for utility, carry, defense, right? DB have really cool colors on their ARs. Why not do those colors on this revolver?
Really looking forward to this one. Especially, with 9mm optional cylinder. A longer barrel would give leaps over the competition, as well: 2.75" to 2.25". Most won't care about an extra 0.25", but for anybody that knows, every little bit helps.
How is the lockup. I know Smith and Ruger types of lockup and this looks great but know nothing about it. The better the way a company builds the cylinder locking mechanism turns me on because if it’s great than won’t have issues later on.
My concern is you have a J frame sized cylinder chambered for 6 rounds of 357 magnum, so compared to the SP101 which is 5 shots there appears to be a lot less metal around the chambers, especially with the SDR having a fluted cylinder. How is the SDR going to stand up to hot 357 loads?
I noticed that; much less meat in the cylinder. 🧐 Good for mild .357 Mag loads at the most, perhaps... And yes, the SP101 (even though only a 5-shot) is probably one of the only small framed revolvers out there that's truly capable of a steady diet of full-power Magnum loads.
Nice - may need to get this as a BUG. The capacity of 6 rounds is superior to 5. Anyone I know that has been in a shoot out never said "I didn't need that many rounds."
I really like the sites, the metal isn't smooth really, they didn't sand it enough before polishing it out but for the price point that's to be expected. I have many J frames already and doubt I would like shooting .357 magnum but a defensive gun doesn't need to be comfortable to shoot. Thanks for the review.
Had 2 chances to buy this gun this month. Saw no reviews so I didn't get it. Been wanting it but dB has had issues in the past from what I read. So thanks for the review 💯
👍🏼👏🏼🤟🏼 Seems really well made, unlike Taurus with all them sharp edges/corners (a real hazard). I have a Taurus snubbie and i do like them a lot (their design and more affordable. Just their sharp edges i must call out).

I would cross shop this with a Kimber K6xs. That makes it a tough choice for me. The Kimber is listed for $584 at Buds Gun Shop.
