  • Watch to see what the Jeff is all about. You've probably never heard of it. SW Montana has so many rivers to fish, we decided to fish this relatively unknown river. I have only fished here once, and it wasn't very good. Today was different.

Hasn’t been a secret for over 40 years. It’s the first place I floated when going to school at MSU in 1976.

The Maria’s used to be a hidden gem. After a state record brown was caught there last year, the Maria’s looks a D-Day Invasion landing. The campgrounds above and below Tiber Dam are packed with non locals and I’ve never seen so many guides.

The clickbait title, the acoustic guitar loop, the dropped fish, the caught sticks, its all there. Peak googan. The double dink was cool though.

Blah blah blah, just enjoy the damn trip and quit promoting every creek in Montana. Half of these are advertisements for $650 a day guided trips. Almost every river in the western region is in trouble, including Big Hole …

Not going to stay a secret long putting the name of the river and the town in your video. Great video otherwise.

The Jeff is by no means a secret. Very low fish counts and a very short season post-runoff and in the fall (the post-runoff rapidly disappearing due to climate change) are why traffic is low. Of all the rivers within 2hr of Bozeman, the Jeff has by far the most-limited fishing. The lower river in particular had massive fish kills last summer and almost ran dry.

The Jefferson river is not a secret. Like all Montana rivers it is over fished. I live along the Jefferson,I see what goes on every summer. Stop coming to Montana--Leave us alone. Montana rivers are being destroyed by all this over fishing. I would like to see the outfitting business end in Montana. I would like to see Montana stop selling out of state fishing and hunting licenses. Montana should be for the people who live here.
