    Thanks for the review.
I'm a senior member of the Product Development team at Evolution, this is a very different beast to our usual saws, this is the first time we have designed product to directly compete head to head with the biggest names in the industry. DeWalt, Makita, Milwaukee and Hi Koki were the only brands with this type and size of saw when we started the development 3 years ago and this is who we benchmarked against.
This is a totally new ground up development by our team of designers and engineers in Sheffield, we have had a number of these on long term test with professional trades people around the UK across many different trades from Joiners, Landscapers, Roofers, Carpenters ect and have not had anything but good reviews from them.
One thing that will help, we designed the dust extraction to be optimised for stud work 4x2, 3x2 and a lot of work went into it. You need to slightly change your use to maximise the collection, when cutting the work piece as you did at the end, bring the blade forward and down and slide the blade through the cut, the kerf of the cut made by the blade will direct the dust up through the dust shroud. You should get much better results this way. If you cut in the way shown the blade breaks through the back edge of the work piece against the fence straight away and the dust is thrown more under the rubber skirt (We had slow moition camera set up when we developed this to track dust trajectory, haha it got very complex), longer dust skirts were tested, we went through so many interations of that but it's a balance in still allowing large capacity work pieces to fit underneath it as well. We have the largest depth of cut than any other cordless 10" saw available. The saw will actually cut basically the same capacity as the NEW 12" DeWalt Flexvolt, we under listed the cross cut and you will get more like 315/310mm than the 305 listed.
I'll keep an eye out for your future videos.
But one thing, please please please do not touch the blade when the batteries are in and particulalrly when the shadowline LED light is on, the activation of the motor is not much more travel on the trigger and I don't want you to potentially lose fingers. Accidents happen quickly, I understand you are trying to show the function but there is no need to actually touch the blade.
    Cheers

Great info there thank you for your contribution. I would work on the name of the saw if its that much different from others you developed as Evolution R255SMS-DB sounds very similar to R255SMS-DB-Li - almost identical. And if they don't share the same features and capabilities then maybe these names could be confusing to potential customers. I think this saw will find its place in many small workshops and garages where other materials than 4x2 and 3x2 are used. But I think its clear that not all potential uses and techniques can be covered. In the end its a jobsite saw and that its primal use.
I think this is a very high quality machine and putting it against DeWalt, Makita, Milwaukee and Hi Koki is right.
And in normal circumstances I don't touch the blade ;) and when I do in these rare cases I'm extra careful.
Great idea with the zero clearance plate! Fantastic addition!

It does seem to be a solid machine, if they'd made it with forward rails it would be more suitable for smaller workshops.

That's true. At this setup it takes a lot of space.

I’ve got the corded version but only a single bevel would the zero clearance plate on this fit corded version also ?

If its the R255SMS DB then it should fit. However if you email Evolution customer service they will tell you for sure.

No the zero clearance plate will not fit any older machines.

That's a good initial review. Nice and detailed. I doubt Evolution will get tradespeople to invest in these - and the sharing of battery platform with Erbauer sort of confirms it. At that price point its probably way out of range for a even a competent DIYer and, for a really proficient DIYer, I recon they'd spend the extra and get the DeWalt one. Still, looking forward to the follow-up on this.

I bet the price will come down, however you do get a lot in this package.

Can't see enough in it for a DIYer to pay £650. I'll stick with my, mains powered Evoution mitre saw for now. Good video though 😉

@@CasualDIY It's not the same as the corded one. The Cordless one is a brand new ground up designed saw.

@@willholt100 OK, I thought they were more or less the same

If your mobile then I can see the pluses but if your workshop based then mains is still the future
